HOW DOES IT WORK?
Based on a tool that has been used by artists for centuries, this app is a digital version of a Camera Lucida.
You suspend your iPhone or iPad above or in front of your canvas with a stand, tall glass, or other objects easily found around your house.
When you look through your phone, you will see both the image and the canvas simultaneously. It's similar in functionality to an art projector or light box, but with the ability to do so much more.
You can draw on any surface, zoom in to draw micro details in your drawing, and you don't have to draw in the dark.
WILL THIS HELP ME LEARN HOW TO DRAW?
Using Da Vinci Eye, you will be training your eye to recognize proportions and draw with shading while training your hand to translate precise lines and strokes on paper. You’ll learn faster and more efficiently using our proven techniques compared to any other app.
AR MODE REQUIREMENTS
To use AR mode, you must have an A10x or A11 processor and above. We recommend using:

AR & CLASSIC MODE
AR mode anchors your image to an object in the real world. This lets you move your canvas or phone, and the drawing and projected image will stay aligned.
Classic mode is like a normal art projector, where if you move your phone or canvas, the drawing will no longer be aligned.
AR mode is especially useful for drawing or painting on an easel. However, in most cases, Classic mode will achieve the same result.

Literally the best and my most favourite app going!!
I am a live painter. As an artist who paints live I need to work quickly! I love drawing I have since a child! But when I’m doing live painting I often don’t know what I’m doing until the day before or on the day! This app has made my job so much quicker and efficient! I love to draw, but now I can crack a drawing out in minutes! Instead of hours! I don’t have to line things up! I love that fact it helps so much with up scaling in terms of big projects! I don’t loose the scale! And again I can get it drawn up in half the time! I would highly recommend this app if you have a super busy schedule! It’s so easy to use! The staff are super helpful if you need assistance with the app. I use this in partnership with zoom too! Helps me do much bigger pieces! Such a brilliant tool! I can’t bang on enough about it. The helpful videos and community that’s available is seriously helpful and appreciated! Just go play and find out for yourself! You won’t regret it!

This is literally the best app to improve in art

Great but have to keep rotating!
For some reason the app maker can’t decide on the orientation of the app. It starts awkwardly in portrait mode, but later switches to landscape. Like the mural maker, it’s slightly over complicated to use. The video tutorial is helpful, but wouldn’t be needed if the app were simplified. It’s a faff to set up, but when you finally finish fiddling about, it works fine. It’s unclear of the pricing structure and after a short duration, you are locked out with a nag to pay for the app.

As a semi-professional artist I love this app as it speeds up my initial sketch process. I used to use the old fashioned grid system when laying down a sketch but now I bash them out super quick with this app which is simple to use. I’ll never go back.

So nearly great
Every time I start a drawing with this app I think what a great idea, but every time it lets me down and I end up tearing my hair out abandoning my project and I wait for the next update. Please put a button in to either lock the transformations, and/or reset the transformation of the picture and camera to some sensible state so when it screws up and completely loses them you have some chance of recovering a project. Also maybe some snapshots to reset to. Scaling the image needs work to be more intuitive.

Simple idea; fantastic product
I’ve always enjoyed sketching and drawing but I’ve always struggled with proportion, especially on drawing figures and portraits. As a right handed person, I have a bias in my drawings where features tend to lean to the right. Davinci Eye has helped me correct these issues but also helped me gain confidence in my artwork. I would thoroughly recommend this app if you want to improve your accuracy or just learn to enjoy your art again

Great - now that I know how to use it!
Previously posted a review with 2 stars because I couldn’t figure out how to zoom out so I could see my whole page / marked off area. Developer reached out almost immediately and talked me through the functionality. And now I can honestly say this app is amazing. Makes it super easy for me to figure out layout and proportion in my sketchbook journal. Especially now I know how to see the whole page or a bigger part of the whole! There is probably a whole lot more I don’t know about but for right now I am really chuffed with classic mode. Going to be honest: the most satisfying thing about using this app vs the other one I have been using is the fact that I can continue listening to my audiobook while drawing because this doesn’t shut down my audio when I start a new drawing! Thanks to the devs for helping me out. Clearly I am now internet reading nanna and am easily confused by non very obvious things!

Good start but buggy
Ok so fairs fair it’s a good app. As soon as I saw it I bought it. However I soon started too notice problems. The controls are there but not great. Ergonomic. However the biggest problem I have is, if I want to go landscape not an option. So you can turn the image to be landscape BUT adjusting up pulls it down, left goes right etc. Now the last bit, if you zoom in or out or move the image even in portrait and loose where the image or camera is, forget it. It’s gone. No reset no centre no start again. Meaning the best and usually ONLY way get it back is delete the project and start again. Also last bit there is a companion app you can use too make massive drawings. Now this app de Vinci eye is £5.99 but you have to pay once every year or per month or whatever for the other which I HATE and will NEVER SIGN UP TO ANYTHING LIKE THAT. If I did I’d be paying out like £600 a month and not use have of that stuff. So NO SALE. GET IT?

I used to draw as a child and was pretty good at it. No so much now days as I stopped. it’s a good tool to use to get your hand training again for the shapes and patterns.
I think I’ll Use this for my outlines for my watercolour paintings.

Amazing Fun!
Came across this fantastic app while browsing the App Store. So easy to use ,some pictures work better than others,make sure you have plenty of paper. If you’re using a iPad, it’s better to use a very rigid support arm, and a led desk lamp. Use masking tape to secure your paper/drawing pad. Would be great if there were more lessons, surprised there isn’t more about this on U/tube.

Excellent help for drawing from photos or screenshots
I find this very helpful for doing at least an outline drawing from anything I have on my phone. The trickiest part is arranging the phone above the paper - some kind of clamp stand to hold the phone really helps - maybe a tripod or selfie stick if you already have one.
I had been looking for something like this for a while and am so pleased to find Da Vinci Eye.

Good but I had an issue with the anchor
Its good and the idea is there, but what i found was if i put my hand under the camera to draw or trace, the image would lose its anchor. Ive tried everything but the image projected over my anchor, so when i moved it the image would disappear because the anchor was moved. Is there not a way of the anchor staying on the screen rather than on the drawing paper? Maybe there is, but I couldn’t work it out. Im willing to research deeper into my query though before I give up.

I am mainly a watercolour painter, I am using this app to speed up the initial drawing stage. It took me a while to work it out however I found the videos great and also some tutorials on you tube ironed out my problems. I have only used classic mode so far but will definitely be looking at the other mode. I absolutely love the strobe tool. Thank you

Why do you need an account?
There’s no reason that this app would require an account.
If you simply need to use it for the drawing function - the actual purpose of the app - then there’s no need to sign up for anything.
Forced account creation in order to use something that basic is simply data harvesting and is totally inappropriate.
Social options for people interested in that should be entirely optional. It’s not possible to test an app to see if it meets your needs, if you have to sign up to something in order to use it. If it’s unsuitable, then the data is already out there, and cannot be recalled or deleted.
Forced signup gets an automatic one star because it’s a terrible practice.

Honestly I didn’t know what to expect from this app and was unsure on committing to purchasing it before trying it out, however I gave it ago and I was so impressed by it. As someone who hasn’t been doing art for long, I found that this app has really helped me with accurately sketching out the positions of what I’m drawing for me to then do it in more detail. I think it’s a great app, some features aren’t compatible with my phone(iPhone 7) but the classic feature works just fine and gets the job done. I think even if you’re unsure on purchasing, it’s worth giving it ago. I do think the app could maybe have a short trial period or something like that before committing to the £4.99 however I think iseen as it’s not a subscription only a 1 time purchase it definitely is worth the money. Would highly recommend!!

Honestly the best arty app I think I’ve ever used. It usually takes me such a long time to figure out the proportions of my drawings (making it a frustrating process!) but this app is so useful with that. I just use it for the initial outline and then go from there by myself but honestly, this is such a game changer. Thank you thank you thank you for developing such a brilliant tool! I only wish it had been around when I was doing my A level art!

It works.
I am an artist and use all sort of techniques to copy images....tracing paper, callipers, freehand, pantograph. For £5 this is amazing because it does work v well. Esp the AR mode. My only gripe is that it won’t switch to landscape mode when used on an ipad, which is actually very annoying, because I can’t use the standard iPad stand (and this is why it only gets 4 stars). Obvs it’s been designed for an iPhone. So...please...allow me to switch to landscape. And in any case one has a lot more screen real estate on an iPad... but other than that.

Mandatory registration enforced
You need to know this before buying the app: you are forced to register in order to use it. It’s not optional to unlock extra features or get support, it’s mandatory and enforced. I would not have bought the app if I had known and I’ve not registered it used it because if this. The app developers list reasons for doing this, and while there may be some merit for additional feature down the line, they just don’t hold up for simply using the app. There is no need for thus. Read the room and understand how people feel about privacy.

Great App
This is a great tool to assist in drawing. I found it very easy to figure out and had an outline of a drawing done in about 15 minutes after instal. It does take a bit of getting used to as there is a very slight delay in what I’m drawing and what shows on my phone. It is also weird drawing visually from my phone instead of looking at the paper, but once you get the hang of it, it’s not a problem. The AR anchor took a bit of fiddling around with, particularly with the focus. Even after locking the focus, the image would still shake. This is the only reason I did not give it five stars but think it is a fantastic app. I used this to properly draw outlines without having to spend ages drawing from observation and trying to get proportions right. I actually had very low expectations of this app but took a risk and was very happy with it. Well worth a buy, I will be using this app a lot.

Well worth the money
Personally I’ve never drawn before, but put a little time into using the tools and watching the videos on this app and I’ve produced not too bad!
Great for kids and adults alike to learn something and hours disappear... recommended and well done to the maker of this app.

Disappointed
Bought this as an experienced artist, wanting to try it, really disappointed that there isn’t a trail version as apparently the AR isn’t compatible with my iPhone 7 wish I had known this before I bought it, can’t judge if it’s good or not, I still think that getting your self a light pad the old fashioned way would be easier which is what I always used 🤷♀️

Great tool for getting accurate proportions
I’m a keen amateur artist . I’ve tried portraits over the years , but been so frustrated not being able to capture the correct proportions of the face . I love this app because I can use it to transfer the correct facials proportions from a photo on my phone , to my paper.

Great app!
Its amazing and so simple to use, the tutorials are really helpful, it gives you different options on how you want to use the tools, I just stick with classic to help me outline things and get the dimensions right. It’s such a good tool and I’m really happy I got the app!

Saved me a ton of time!!
Soo... I initially didn’t want to pay for this and only wanted to trial it. But it was worth the buy in the end!! It is a little tricky to work out perfectly, and I thought I would only be able to use the classic manual setting, but I figured out how to get the AR to work !!! ( I’m not one to read instructions, I love figuring things out myself. Or maybe I’m just stubborn and ignorant, but I got there in the end 😁)
If anyone is also having trouble with the AR- with me it was locking the picture on the anchor ( a joker card) and so the picture would follow the anchor everywhere I placed it, till I figured I needed to press the ‘move’ button and move the picture on the iPad down, where I needed it reflecting, and keep the anchor on top of the paper like it shows in the example. And then press ‘move’ again to lock it.😂
So simple and yet I didn’t get that for a while and wondered why my picture was on top of my joker 🙈
Now to buy myself a sturdy iPad stand!!!

Amazing but one problem
So the app is amazing I love it but the problem is when i go onto a picture to draw it i put my pencil in the camera to draw the picture then the camera shakes making it hard to draw im trying to get used to it but anyway the game is amazing i started of on draw animated things then i started to draw real life things like me for example i love this app so much it helps me draw because now im trying to draw on much own again im doing animated things and trying to draw real life thank you for helping me draw

Enjoying drawing again
I’m all set up got a clip on lamp a desktop easel and a stand for the phone. The app is great I’ve drawn most every day since I’ve had it, just got to get used to it but had likes already from other users!

this app is so good
i literally have never left a review until now but i love this app. i think people who can already draw might use this a lot less than me or just for blocking, but i paint abstract art but can’t draw to save my life and this makes me feel like i can, i’m so happy. it’s a bit fiddly and awkward and if you’re dyspraxic like me or have problems with special awareness it can take some time to get the hang of. i can i suspect future updates might improve some of that, but honestly it was well worth the £5. well done guys xx

Sweet Drawing
I’m so glad to have this great DVE app !!! Because I can make very easy outlines of any kinda picture ( using the Breakdown option) and also just connect to my phone a second monitor/TV to manage to draw a large image (such a good solution )right? but really honest for the perfect end I prefer to use an overhead projector (by copyrighted the DVE picture ) to apply a bigger image. ( on the car, wall basically everything oversized then A4)... regards... Manny thanks for this nice app.

Fantastic drawing app!
I’ve spent years tracing the outlines of my drawings using my laptop screen in the dark or a light behind a bit of glass but always had to do the finer details afterwards because they were too hard to see. This app has solved this problem - no more dodgy proportions! It’s brilliant, really easy to use and I love the drawing challenges on there too!

Brilliant
This app is just amazing. I’ve only just started using it and it’s going to revolutionise my workflow. I’m an artist and know how to draw, however I was looking to reduce the amount of time I spend on getting proportions right and this takes care of that. I really don’t get why some people left negative reviews, especially seeing as the developer replies to everyone and seems genuinely helpful (there’s no pleasing some people I guess).
It does take a little while for your brain to adjust to looking at the paper through the phone while drawing but you get used to it really quickly. I haven’t even explored all its features yet but already love it!

An amazing tool to assist those who want to learn how to draw
I initially ready the negative comments about this app which stated it wasn’t worth the purchase. I then did my own research and viewed the tutorials on other sites which provided me with comfort that there is genuine support to use this as a drawing aid.
Since downloading the app, I’ve not only found confidence to learn to draw but have completed some great drawings.
I could not recommend this app enough. Easy to use and In stills confidence to progress with your drawings.

A solid app once you get it set up with a nice anchor and a phone holder
It promised so much but in the end was awful to use. The AR drawing relies completely on having an ‘anchor’ (a colourful business card sized image that helps provide a reference for ‘projection’) but it failed to recognise multiple anchors in my case - even when using a playing card like the app itself suggests. I tried on iPhone 12 and iPad Pro and neither could recognise any of the anchors when held high enough to allow the whole A3 piece of paper in view. I thought I would love this app, but it’s complete failure to provide the key feature of AR image projection just left a sour taste in the mouth.

This apps brilliant, I’ve never been able to draw not even a stick man, and even though it wasn’t 100% my first drawing was really good. I’ll get better with more practice but I would t have been able to do what I done without the app,

Totally brilliant
This app has absolutely transformed how I work. It keeps on giving as you discover what all the features actually do. I’ve a feeling I’ve only scratched the surface with the potential of this. Pay absolutely no attention to the people giving this incredible app only one star, those guys are clearly not very bright.

Waste of money
Is such a simple concept and I would of thought it would be simple but it’s actually pretty hard to use, I don’t have a problem drawing and I’m actually pretty good of it I got this app to speed up the transfer ready to paint but been messing about with this and the angle never sits right or you end up with a glass in the middle of your picture impossible to navigate around 🤣 it may help if it made a use of iPhones wide angle Lens so you didn’t have to try holding the camera so high- also stroke marks on the screen would really help as the opacity setting ain’t great because if your rolling with a hardcore set of HB’s you have to constantly check and reposition ya phone which again is hard because pencil marks are faint af

Really useful tool
I love this! It really encourages you to break through the ‘where to start’ part when facing a blank sheet of paper, it’s an advanced tracing tool, even if you only use it for placement of certain features of an image before taking over in your own style it’s invaluable. I’m still exploring all its capabilities, but so far a great investment into improving your art skills. Thanks...

Best thing I’ve ever spent money on.
I would fully recommend this to any aspiring artist I didn’t think it would be as good as advertised but its actually better, only problem is whatever you put your phone on kinda gets in the way but I got round this by building my own “table” for the phone out of k’nex. This is the best app I ever spent money on 100%.

Amazing
Art is my biggest love, and this app gives me so much inspiration, and it really helps (by allowing me to “trace” from an image) should I feel stuck. I’ve even been using the daily image to make new sketches, and keep my formerly broken hand active. I love it! 😍

I’ve never written a review for an app before but I had to for this one.
I’m not an artist whatsoever but honestly this app has allowed me to draw things I’ve never even thought I could.
I honestly struggle to draw stick figures but this app has allowed me to draw professional looking sketches. 10/10 and would recommend to ANYONE even if you’re just as bad as me at art.

Mostly a brilliant app
I love this app apart from the fact that they should really have an option when you’re exporting the video of a video length that is the same as the amount of time it was recording for?? And then let us edit it after if we want to. All the current options make the video so jumpy and unbearable to watch. Please add this as an option!

This is genuinely amazing
I saw an advert for this and thought it was a bit too good to be true, but it genuinely works very well, the processors and mechanics that have gone into this app are astounding.
If you can’t draw, I promise this will help you, and make you feel good about it.

Good
I really wanted to get this but the reviews were putting me off. I’m glad I did as it does exactly what it promises. I wanted this to trace an outline to quickly check features are in the right place, as sometimes it can waste hours when proportions have gone slightly ‘out’. And a common fault seen is eyes of the wrong size, which is easily fixed with this app. Love it!
