Stopped working since iOS18 update
I have always found Audiobus very useful for connecting IAA synths to Cubasis 3 but since updating to iPadOS18 there is no longer a connection. I have dozens of projects that rely on Audiobus!

Essential app
This may have been around for a while but on older iPads it seems to offer a simpler and less processor heavy alternative. Great for building layers of synths or for chaining apps to make new loops and samples. Ability to record and export stems would be nice.

Does what I want - update
Update April 2024: Original review below, but I just wanted to emphasise how useful this is for my (admittedly limited) requirements. In conjunction with StreamByter- see my review of that - it’s a great MIDI problem-solver.
This app enabled me to connect my controller keyboard to a couple of iPad instruments and also echo the MIDI stream back out of the iPad into external hardware for more layers of sound. The developer was responsive and helpful when I had queries, even when one of them related to a cheap MIDI interface that was causing problems. With the addition of the free StreamByter AU to manipulate the MIDI stream to internal and external instruments, the setup does exactly what I want.

I have purchased 34 different parts of music production software from 4pockets , and I will be buying more I am that impressed. Regards to the software you are able to create pro sounds and the ways you can create sounds etc is so user friendly it makes getting advanced level music production easy

Link to midi clock is all over the place
Can’t get a solid sync at all. Doesn’t ever phase cancel when testing. Doesn’t even come close. Had to revert to using link to midi which is rock solid. Link to midi doesn’t work on the latest iOS but luckily I remembered I had an old iOS so i still got rock solid sync. Sort the sync issue out. Link to midi is better but it’s no longer compatible

Still one of the best AUv3 host apps for jamming
AB3 is excellent for live jamming. Very good clock and sync implementation that includes rock solid MIDI and Ableton Link sync. And the user interface leaves plenty of space to display plugin user interfaces.

Great tool to combine all your music apps
Audiobus is such a handy tool. Let’s me connect and combine all my music apps, synths, samplers and more so they can speak to each other. Plus you can connect your iPad to your mac and play from Audiobus as midi or audio. Definitely recommend it.

Amazing tool for musicians
I love this as a person who composes and records soundtracks for movies I work, this is perfect in the sense that it makes things easy.

Couldn’t be without it.
Running AUv3 plugins are great in Audiobus, unlike a lot of apps running plugins, Audiobus gives the plugin loads of screen space making complex plugins much less fiddly to use. Also has midi clock support so takes the hardware world outside iOS seriously and makes hardware play nice with iOS and all the great apps and AUv3 plugins.
This app is quality, I have loads of audio apps on iOS including one’s very similar to Audiobus. Audiobus makes things possible that would not be possible on iOS without it.

Was ACE. Now no longer working and seems unusable 😩
Can no longer route audio to or from my interface since iOS 15 installed.
Interface is class compliant, works with other apps fine, and is recognised by Audiobus (all inputs and outputs). But no signal passing. Very disappointed. Unclear how/where/why the problem exists or how best to troubleshoot. It has previously been excellent and was also running the MIDI control side with relatively decent functionality (albeit not ‘full’ control). Now it appears to be almost totally redundant app on my iPad… gutted

On a good day
Very useful, if you ever use more that one app simultaneously , a hub for (most) of your music apps. Virtual mixer that is midi mappable. Route apps, and control everything in one place, all in sync, mapped to your hardware, volume, parameters, Ableton link, midi clock. On a good day
However, always a bit unstable and prone to odd crash. But that is usually because of flaky apps that aren’t compatible or processing power. And must make GarageBand integration less clunky. Probably Apple’s fault.

Wonderful App, indispensable!
I had been getting help on the excellent Audiobus forum for a while, not realising there was also an App of the same name, DOH!
I am just beginning to explore its powers and it’s blowing me away.
Not only does it receive, process and output MIDI and Audio, but many other things as well. The Midi-learn is superb btw.
A super discovery was its ability to run StreamByter scripts in order to do the impossible with all things MIDI.
I am now able to play my acoustic guitar into my iPhone and:
1. Get its audio processed with an amp simulator, along with reverb and cabinet selection etc, etc,
2. Get the audio converted to Midi; both by Midi Guitar 2,
3. Which then sends the Midi to AudioKit’s super Synth One.
4. In addition I run a drum machine, AudioKit’s AR-909, inside AudioBus3.
5. All of these are controlled by the amazing wireless Bluetooth pedal “BlueBoard” from IK Multimedia, using only 4 foot buttons and one external sustain pedal. (There is a spare pedal socket btw)
I’m a veritable one man band, and this is all possible with the help of AUDIOBUS3.

This is one of those utilities you never think you’ll ever need - until it becomes essential to your workflow, and when that happens, you’ll wonder what you did without it.
Especially useful if you have older IAA only synths and older versions of IOS - it’s the glue that holds everything else together.

Using Audiobus in a live situation.
Using an Ipad and a backing track player I am using Audiobus with a number of plug ins along with a URC22 interface to entertain.
This is a great help. No mixer required plus access to any number of vocal effects. I can access the mixer simply by sliding with four fingers to show on screen. Then slide back to the backing track player and continue with the show. Fantastic I think!

Top banana!
Brilliant app, developer and forum. AB3 has come in useful many times for various reasons for me - at the present I’m just getting into using it in split-screen mode with Koala sampler (a lot of fun to be had).
There is overlap with some other apps and if you’re only looking for one, you could consider other competitors like AUM or ApeMatrix, but I have got more than my money’s worth from AB3 even though I use AUM more frequently.
The app’s stability is maintained to a high level and the developer is very responsive to any issues arising in the iOS ecosystem. Thoroughly recommended.

Do I need this app?
Do I need this app? Not really. But being a semi pro musician, the curiosity got to me. The flexibility this app offers me from routing midi source, au instrument, au effect, then routing to DAW or external interface inputs is amazing. I’ve also downloaded tons of free or low cost synths, effects, sequencers that has allowed a new area of playing and recording.
Audiobus is now the first app I open before I start playing anything, it is that important in my music workflow.
Do I need this app? Most definitely.

Multiplies the joy
IOS music is great, right? When you are in love with so many apps, it’s a shame not to introduce them all to each other.
Get on the Audiobus and take a journey to soundsville. Combine audio, midi and all your favourites into one complex (or simple) routing. Remember the old red London buses? Why? Because, like Audiobus it was a known as the ‘Routemaster’.
Now in it’s Nth iteration, Audiobus goes from strength to strength. Its longevity is testament to its usefulness. It’s almost like it should be native to the IOS.

Extremely Pi%%ed off
With the latest update every session of mine has been removed from the session directory, so extremely aggravating. I want a refund to purchase an acceptable app that isn’t this unstable.
Oh wow what another great find, my presets in all of my synth apps I had made inside of AB are now unavailable, and I’ll tell you, there were quite a few, a right “kick in the teeth” well deserved 1* and if I could go lower I would.
Update:
It was most definitely the app as it is only to do with anything that has been done inside of it, may not have been the update as I think I may remember the last thing I had done before updating thinking “oh there is an update maybe that is what the problem is” after updating no fix but the issue arose when I had plugged in headphones and it crashed, would not open after, hence why I had checked if update needed, updated but still would not launch restarted iPad it then opened but still nothing was restored.
Just extremely agitated with the fact every session is gone, a lot of time wasted it seems if it wasn’t for this mishap it would not be a low 1* review but just stating it’s not the app doesn’t make it any better.

Problem with new update 13.1.1
Ever since I’ve updated my iPad Pro to the new update 13.1.1 I can not use beatmaker3 with audiobus. There’s a bug that prevents it from up loading most of the time. And when it does load up into audiobus there is no sound that comes out of it. This only happens when it’s linked into audiobus. This is a big issue for me as I need to link BeatMaker 3 with Cubasis it was working great before the iPad update.... now it seams incomparable through audiobus? Can this issue be resolved?

Superb host for wiring together all your audio and midi apps when making your latest, glorious cacophony.
Wouldn’t be without Audiobus. It is incredibly deep yet easy to use. Just keeps getting better. The dev is amazingly responsive and supportive both via direct messages and on the forum he set up, that serves as the hub for iOS musicians.

Dunno why I bothered..
I used abv1 a little back in the day. V2 borkt functionality but support wouldn’t have it. (Ouch). so I got off the bus eventually as i couldn’t take anymore. Went for all in ones (blip!blip!) instead and found myself more productive. realised having to open at least 3 odd apps inc. ab was just eh.. people sing its praises well bully for them. But ok, v3 deserves an nth chance what with new bellhickies and whistledoolallies? Nah. This inspires me not..my ios stats report this as “used - never”. as an aside, i suspect littledahls aum will be similarly befuddling...but its clear fannadores of ab/aum enjoy complexity oops sorry “options”...each to their own and stuff..

Great app but add-ons cost more
Great app. Dubious at first but eventually splashed the cash and paid to connect my audio apps and this app does it very well.
Thought the recent “paid” add-on for midi features is a bit much as this is already a “premium“ priced app. Luckily I have no need for that add on. Merry Christmas

Still best option when it comes to routing audio and midi in IOS. Slow start but well stable now.

This is the AudioBus we should have had at v. 3.0, but better late than never. Version 3.1 brings this classic app back to the vanguard of mobile music production. It is now relevant again and a true alternative to AUM. In fact, I might just prefer it to AUM.
