Only if you live and work in HK

I currently live in the UK due to work and because of my father’s illness I haven’t been able to go back to HK for a while now. My card has been blocked, the option to verify by sms is not showing. I called and I have to go back to HK and use a HSBC atm… there are HSBC atms all around the world… luckily I have the UK account details saved so I can transfer between accounts

Opt for a physical device instead

The HSBC mobile banking app works only sporadically: many reviews have highlighted they are unable to log on: the app opens to the hsbc logo screen, and then closes. BUT HSBC does not address this problem. It simply asks customers to contact the chat service: which they cannot do since they cannot even log on! The relation managers are a joke. They do not reply to whatsapp or email messages. Perhaps HSBC is now only interested in elite premier customers. I managed to speak to customer service on the phone. After requesting for a physical security device for over six months, I finally managed to speak to a sympathetic agent who promised to send me a physical device. HSBC HK is perhaps the only one among the global HSBC banking corp. network that does not normally issue physical devices. Not so for HSBC UK. What a shame.

To add your card to Apple Pay, you MUST get the app and varify by either wait for 24h or go to an atm, then add it with in the app and no other way. Meaning you can’t use it on Mac!

Feature Request: Custom Stock Portfolio & Auto-Rebalancing.

I’ve been using the HSBC HK app for a long time and really appreciate its clean design and reliable performance. One feature that would significantly improve the investment experience is the ability to create a custom stock portfolio directly in the app.

It would be extremely helpful if users could:

•Add selected stocks to build their own personalized portfolio/pie (not just buying individual stocks)

•View percentage allocations across holdings

•Track how each position contributes to the overall portfolio

•Enable auto-rebalancing, so when topping up, funds are allocated automatically according to the target percentages

• Enable auto-DRIP, great option to invest more

This would make portfolio management much smoother and would bring the app closer to full-featured investment platforms. I hope HSBC considers adding this enhancement—it would be a great value-add for many investors.

I’m working in HK with my phone on iOS 16.7 but their agents can never solve my problem of the app quitting itself every time I launch it. To make matters worse, they stopped offering physical secure keys. Slack, just bank with another local bank from HK for the sake of WeChat Pay HK.

After I updated the app, I can no longer log in with my username and password. The app asks for a SMS verification code. I am currently away and I have no way to receive a SMS so I cannot log in. Online customer service suggests me updating my phone number by MAILING A PHYSICAL FORM from abroad. No electronic form, no other solutions such as verifying my identity by email. So ridiculously unacceptable, never update this stupid app.

I have tried to verify my identity, the app won’t send the code to my UK number!! Even though the number is correct and I receive SMS messages from HSBC all the time.

Workflow fails and support is non-existent

Tried the the mobile account opening using a valid passport but unable to complete the workflow. The support number provided in the app is incorrect and connects to a fax line, found correct number online, it looks like one digit 3 has been transposed with a 2. contacted support who were adamant it’s not possible to use a passport, despite that’s what the website and app say. Did they even test this?

Unreliable and confusing banking services ever

It took 4 days to get an answer to a question about discrepancies shown on the amount of a new fund deposit which was made in HKD both in and out. The reason given was because of FX rate fluctuations, how ridiculous! The money transferred doesn’t involve any foreign currency at all but HKD!

Well+ has been a disaster. It has stopped working multiple times and HSBC seem unable to ensure it operates smoothly. Never an apology nor a proper fix for lost progress. After so many updates, it hasn’t been fully fixed.

Atrocious service and customer support

1 star is not low enough for how disappointed I am, I have lost all faith in HSBC as a bank, I had my account details compromised and a number of fraudulent transactions were placed on my account. When I called to report these the only support I received was that a dispute would be raised for the transactions and I would have to wait 6-8 weeks

Yet they failed to flag these transactions in the first place and then when I went into their main branch in person I spent over 4 hours explaining the problem yet they still couldn’t stop the transactions. I was forced to solve my own problem and transfer my remaining balance to another bank. I have lost over HK$ 35K due to fraud and another 35K is now frozen in my account with no guarantee of being refunded and am still expected to wait 6-8 weeks for the fraud team to contact me.

I have worked as a consultant for HSBC and am beyond shocked that their customer support would be this inept. At this point I would recommend banking with someone else because clearly HSBC do not care about their employees or customers
