Okay, But Speak to chat terrible

The app lets you do everything but set defaults for your headphones. Every time I connect my headphones to my iPad the speak to chat defaults to being turned on, with a cough, laugh or sneeze setting it off. I’ve not been able to turn this off without it returning the next day

Complex and unreliable

Somewhat infuriating app. Often will not connect to ear buds or will drop connections and won’t reconnect without a restart. Also sound management just seems unnecessarily complex.

Sony W1000MX5 Are great however;

The headphones are great however the app itself needs more improvements to help the user feel comfortable, the ANC does not block out the outside noise, and Spatial Audio does not work as intended please add Spatial Audio through the app instead of I have to buy a new set of headphones from Sony to experience Spatial Audio or the Cinema feature - please learn from your own mistakes and experience as a commercial company with new software like this introduced in the earliest version please add Spatial Audio in the app so I as a consumer, does not need to figure out how to activate Spatial Audio sound without the need to go into a separate app (360 Audio) please listen to your customers. Thank You - I always will love Sony and a Happy New Year.

Bad ui/ux

Can’t believe a company as big as sony have no one on the ui/ux side. The app is so badly designed that I thought i installed a 3rd party app. No organisation, random info out of alignment and hard to find menus.

Clunky app with ads

Just a bit of a mess. How is Sony software so bad when their hardware is good?
Buggy UI, a new poorly-written modal every time I need to use it, and every now and then you get push notification adverts that can’t be disabled (unless you disable useful notifications too…?)

Unlisted earbuds

What a waste of time. I buy earbuds and expect them to connect to an iPhone like every other set I’ve bought. Nope you have to download an app that does not even have the purchased earbuds in the list or any other separate earbuds for that matter. I’ve wasted a couple of hours of my life trying to pair them. They’ll have to go in the bin as I just cannot be bothered to talk to bits.

Nightmare

God forbid you remove your device and try to reinstall it. It’s impossible! My headphones won’t connect due to a bug with the app where the headphones will not show ‘as an accessory’. So I cannot use them. I notice this is a someone common issue on reddit.
I had to remove them in the first place because I lost sound. The app really needs work

Perhaps the worst headphones I have ever bought. Very flaky connectivity and poor software, keeps dropping in out. If you receive a call while watching on you tube then it will lose connection to phone. Battery life is pretty low and you need to keep charging every few hours. I broke charging case for my old Bose headphones so bought this product but it was perhaps worst decision, I should have looked at buying a replacement of charging case of my old Bose headphones…

Doesn’t work

I’ve been trying to connect my headphones for the past 10 minutes to a different device. I’ve pared them fine to my other one and I am doing the same thing but it doesn’t work. It says connected in my shortcuts but I have no connection symbol. When I come out of the app there’s no sign of the device in my bluetooth. It says ‘connect to (my headphones)’ and ‘connecting’ by headphones are in paring mode and I wait for minutes at a time but it still doesn’t do anything. It’s not my device as I’ve opened and closed the app and even shut down my device temporarily. I can’t listen to anything now as I can’t make noise and I don’t know how to make it connect.

Planned obsolescence

Thanks Sony for going the extra mile…. To make sure if we lose one bud we cannot pair a replacement , but purchase a whole new set just because you won’t allow buds with different firmwares to be paired and updated to the same version.

Volume very low

Despite not being deaf, even on full volume I can’t listen to audiobooks outside of the house with Sony headphones on Apple. The volume is pitifully low. There is also no way to override this. The fancy speech options do nothing at all to raise the volume. I’m sat on holiday with no ability to listen to any of the books I’ve downloaded to enjoy on my break.

Awful

Worst app ever. Advanced features of headphone need this app to be used and configured, but this app is so slow and ridiculously unstable. This app constantly crashes and freezes with the latest iOS and latest iPhone. Tried on multiple devices and they all behave the same. Been trying to update the firmware of my headphones for 3 days now and getting nowhere despite factory resetting everything several times and trying countless number of times. Avoid Sony headphones until they sort this out! The app has been awful for a long time, but this is a new low.

Lagging. Non responsive.

The iOS app takes too long to connect to headphone. Even after connecting, some of the function are lagging, and some are frozen and don’t work at all (e.g. Create Hearing Profile or Optimise App).
Sony is so good in some aspects (e.g. ANC or Sound Quality), and yet so clumsy in other aspects (e.g. Apps, Softwares, Mobiles).

Delete the app

I left a comment a year ago about how the app was terrible and kept turning speak to chat on with every update. Devs have ignored mine and multiple other comments that say this. It now turns back on 3 times a day, makes the headphones complete rubbish to use. The solution is to delete the app, it can’t force setting changes if it’s not connected to the headphones. Every month you can install it and update if you like, but their updates are usually complete garbage anyway so I wouldn’t bother. Terrible app, terrible devs, delete the app.

Pointless app

Where is the option to turn off the annoying button on the headphones?!?? We have all been forced to use wireless headphones but the thing is, they fall out onto the floor. With wired headphones this wasn’t a problem because the wire held kept them attached to your or your phone. So, therefore, I have to continuously, every minute or so, touch the earphones to ensure they are pushed right into my ear, or risk losing them when they fall in the road or grass or wherever. When I do push the earphones in it is almost IMPOSSIBLE not to accidentally press the button on the earphones. This skips the podcast you are listening to or adjusts the volume or does something else you did not want to do. This is especially likely to happen if you are wearing gloves or walking or on the move. You then have to take your phone out, open it up, and start your podcast (or whatever) up again, or adjust the volume back, or do something else. It is INFURIATING. Get rid of the earphone buttons or give us an option in this app to turn the button off!!!!!! I do not see any other reason for this app, it’s pointless.
Do not buy Sony earphones, is my advice.

Buggy and inconsistent

The 1000mx5 headphones are great but the app is a buggy nightmare. I keep on getting disconnected notifications yet the headphones are still connected and I can listen to music however the app doesn’t recognise they are connected. Also it doesn’t seem to keep my preferences of noise cancellation and defaults to ambient in my work environment. No way to submit a support request via the app and the link in App Store just takes you to a Sony corporate site, poor customer support imo

App ruined

I never leave reviews but this app is so bad I cannot leave without leaving a review, the app was good before the update and since the update my headphones have been acting up. Constantly turning on ambient noise when people around me speak, turning down my music and turning off noise cancellation, turned this off in the app so many times, without effect, then I unpaired and forgot my device tried to connect it again to the app and now I cannot connect them at all. Don’t know why they needed to change it but such a horrible update it annoys me a lot.

Ear bud battery level

The lack of acknowledgement from Sony is appalling. They have rolled out forced changes and effectively broken people’s devices. You pay a significant premium for Sony products and a level of service is expected. You deserve to lose custom.
Since the app update, the battery level in my right ear bud is being drained significantly faster than the left, so much so it is low battery after an hour. You have to question how much testing was carried out prior to release. This is a poor show from a name like Sony. This needs fixed very quickly !!

Ok redesign but volume bug

There is a bug with volume control.
Simply it doesn’t respect device volume.
Within the Sound Connect app there is it’s own volume control that used to be in sync with device volume but with this update it’s not but a number of reports online suggests it’s been buggy for a while.
So the issue is if you don’t adjust or use this slider within the Sound Connect app, you could experience a bug where despite adjusting the volume of the headphones (i have WF XM5s) with the devices, doing something else on the device, for me it was simply using Safari would trigger the volume to shoot always the way up to maximum.
But it wasn’t only going to maximum as that’s what the slider within the Sound Connect app was set at. If i say lowered that to zero, set device volume to maximum & repeated the steps of going into Safari, suddenly my phone volume is at 0.
The headphones as prioritising the volume control in the Sound Connect app rather than the device & worse is there is no sync between the app & device so you lower the volume on the device with buttons or control centre & that lowers the volume in the apps.
So can only assume it’s a bug with the app.

Useless

Rubbish App.
My Sony WH-CH720N headphones don’t pause when I take them off.
In the description of the App and on the Help page of Sony it says that I can fix it in this App by pressing on the setting to automatically switch off the sound when the headset is taken off.
Well, that’s not the case, there’s NO such option on this App! How crazy is that in nowadays not be able to have such option? Is this option removed specifically for those who are located in Europe? From what I read this option is available in US?
I’m very upset, what a waste of money those Sony headphones, going back to my old ones which have the miraculous good old jolly option of automatically putting on pause the song/podcast/movie when I have to suddenly interrupt my listening because someone talks to me, e.g. my kids (which happens so often, that I need this option really badly, I just can’t end up pressing the button all the time).

It’s alright, but…

While everything does work as well as it does fine. The EQ settings, while functional, are unfortunately very limiting. It’s very hard when you end up getting Sony branded earbuds with very trebly results at the default settings and when you try to lower everything the best you can (for more detail with the equaliser, I have every knob, except for the 400 one, down at -10), especially when you’re trying to get that sweet spot where the bass, mids, and treble are perfectly balanced. Maybe it’s just a me problem and it’s technically not really the fault of the developers of this app. But it doesn’t really change the fact that my listening experience could be a lot better.

Mildly infuriating

This app allows for greater control of your headphones’ settings, but frequently forgets what you tell it. About once a month I have to reopen the app and turn off speak-to-chat for the millionth time because the app insists on randomly turning it back on, meaning music will cut out when I sing along or an audiobook will stop dead for half a minute if I cough too loud.
The idea of headphones coming with an app is my idea of a personal hell anyway, so the fact that it doesn’t work half the time only makes it worse. I’ve never used it for anything more than the initial set up of my headphones, then to go back in every now and again and re-set up those settings because its forgotten them. What’s the point.

Not bad

App is ok but the whole insisting on an account and subscription thing is just annoying and disappointing tbh… without that the app still works well but it does take time to really fine tune the headphones with this app and the find your EQ feature is not good in my opinion as it relies on you listening to a peace of your own music, I found this to be frustrating as i listen to meany different types of music so found it to be a bit useless! In my opinion I would say the Apple headphones EQ finder is much better as it played an example peace of music to dial in which I think is better! I would also love to see the ability to set either Ambient or noise canceling as default as I use my headphones when working and i actually use Ambient mode most of the time so it’s just annoying to have to change the setting every time I put my headphones on!

Oh dear oh dear

I was curious about data privacy so I looked up some of the ancillary apps on my telephone and what data they were giving away (without paying me for it. If people want my unmuddled, non homogenised data they can pay me a monthly royalty thank you. Which is quadrupled should the data be used in any Ai training nonsense. You will see this on the returned agreement I sent to you/the companies whose applications or services I use. Otherwise you get noise. I of course don’t use Googles products or services as “you are the product” there. This app collects your personal info and they keep copies whilst selling it onto third parties in order to make even more money. It’s nice that Apple are against this kind of data theft even if they coded it into their OS’s for this data to be retrievable.

Update Sept 2023 changing review now working again

After issues Sony network had this app is now working as it should it’s not asking me to migrate my account anymore as I already have created a Sony Account .
My review has now changed from negative to a positive at this moment in time .
I would advise you to create a Sony Account and not use Apple or Google as in the future you will be asked to migrate and that may or may not cause issues with yourselves using the App .

Great value for money

I have several expenses sets of headphones but was looking for some to use travelling that were also Bluetooth. These were under £80 and much less than I expected to pay for what I consider pretty good quality. The noise cancellation works as well as other pairs I have tried if not better. I am a sound engineer by profession and they are not quite as good as my top of the range cabled phones. They are however more than £300 cheaper! The app works really well. They sound as good as I could hope for Bluetooth and the noise cancellation is the cherry on the cake.

Wants to know to much personal data

I have lots of earpieces and headphones as well as Sony products and their expensive mp3 player. Of all the headphones that don’t connect quickly to the mp3 player, it’s the Sony ones. Even the cheap shower speaker I have can connect instantly a room away and try stopping the iPad connecting to some already paired to the player.
So I thought I’d try this app. 10 pages in and it still wants to know what toilet paper I use.
Sony, who writes your firmware and apps? Is everyone based in different continents? Is the ‘committee horse’ a mission statement?

The price is certainly justifiable…

Hands down the best set of headphones I’ve ever used. My ears are sensitive and the slightest pressure on the cartilage causes great discomfort after an hour but these xm5’s are super comfy with 5hr sessions not causing the slightest discomfort.
The sound quality is very good with no distortion to higher frequencies during heavy bass output. The inability to fold as small as the xm3 and 4 models I thought would be an inconvenience however the case is relatively flat and compresses when empty.
The noise cancellation function works well, busy airport noise is reduced to the odd shouting voice with tannoy announcements inaudible. In flight noise is reduced to a very minimal hum.
The equalizer adjustment range of frequencies could be greater but then this is across the range of wh-1000 headphones restricted by the Sony connect app

OK when it works but don’t need it

I have WM-1000XM4 headphones. They are great. This app seems OK when it works but, for instance, right now the headphones are playing just fine and sound great. They are connected to my phone and show as such in the iPhone Bluetooth list. But the app says it can’t connect and that I should check they are powered on and that Bluetooth is connected.
Seems a shame. Headphones are really nice but the app just doesn’t work 80% of the time. The good thing is that it doesn’t matter that the app doesn’t work.

worked fine for the first couple of months that I had it

after the first couple of months of having the headphones and using this app, every time I want to use the “connect to 2 devices simultaneously” I have to connect the second device manually as though it’s a new device. I can’t choose from a list of past devices anymore, which I could do at first. and it also doesn’t show a list anymore of which devices are currently connected. the app also crashes when I have manually connected a second device (tv), so I have to close and reopen the app to fix it.
as others have said, considering the price of the headphones, I would hope that sony would put more effort into making a good app.

Decent app for an early stage startup but this is Sony…

The app works decently, but the UI is poorly designed, the menus are awkward and slow, and the English language contains grammar mistakes. It just feels unfinished. The software updates are rolled out in an awkward way, presenting you with an improvised text box when opening the app. It’s rushed and not thought-through.
Don’t get me wrong, the app works, but this is far from the luxurious feel you would expect from such an expensive product (I’m using the app with the top line WF-1000XM4 headphones). I love these headphones but every time I have to open the app it just feels like a lost opportunity to make the experience market-leading.

Same problems as all the other (many) 1 star reviewer

Like many reviewers have said- for the cost of the headphones I would expect a much higher quality of app.
The frequent notifications to connect to headphones (even when Bluetooth is off. Even when the headphones are off. Even when Bluetooth is off AND headphones are off AND me and my iPhone are 20 miles away from the switches off headphones!😤)
iPhone battery seems to run out much faster since using this app (phone is just under 1 year old- so unlikely a phone issue)
Doesn’t connect easily when needed.
Seems to randomly connect to one of two devices (somehow it’s always the device I’m not using at the time 🤔)
Says it isn’t connected when it is.
Says it is connected when it isn’t.
I can honestly say I’ve had better functioning apps with much much cheaper headphones- Sony should be embarrassed at the poor effort.

Some enhancements can be made

Firstly, i’d like the option to limit how fully charged the case or headphones are. I don’t always need everything 100% charged, so the opportunity to preserve battery life, as per my Tesla, is welcomed.
Secondly, the 360 function needs to be rolled out to Qobuz where genuine studio standard High Res Audio can be streamed or purchased.
NB. Too much white noise on Ambient Sound setting needs addressing.

Make sure app works offline!

After the most recent app update, the first time you start it, it tries to load a privacy policy page from the internet. If you aren’t online it just says ‘cannot connect to network’ and the next button is greyed out - you can’t get past this page to use the app!
Hey Sony - make sure you can skip this step when at a place without internet! I bought these headphones for noise cancelation and as a result I couldn’t set this up while on a plane :(

Room for changes.

So, it works well at what it does with my WF-1000MX4s but the Adaptive Sound Control feature has a lot of work to do before it becomes functional in any way at all.
All it will do at the moment is change the headphones from ‘Noise Cancelling’ to ‘Ambient Sound’ to ‘Off’ and that’s it!
There needs to be other settings in there as well for each scenario eg. Speak to Chat, if on in the main setting remains on everywhere, I should be able to turn it on and off from the selected Adaptive Sound Control setting.
Same goes for EQ, DSEE, connection quality, even the functionality of the earbud buttons should be on a scenario by scenario basis and not just a system wide setting.
Also some custom ASC settings wouldn’t go amiss either to allow a user to set things up for a different scenario.
All in all, it works well but some of the ‘features’ are hampered by there not being enough flexibility in them to make them any use whatsoever.

App fails to open

The app fails to load, or even open on my iPhone once I agree to the terms and conditions. It opens, buffers for a second or 2, then it shuts itself down displaying the home screen. Initially I thought it might be a storage issue, as a consequence I deleted 2GB of data, but that didn’t seem to mend it. I restarted the phone, deleted and reinstalled the app multiple times, and made sure the app was the only tab open. However, whatever I try, the app continues to fail to run appropriately, unable to start and function as it should.
I have purchased the Sony Extra Base noise canceling headphones and I would love to use them correctly by setting things up using the app, please could you correct this anomaly and advice me appropriately on how we should proceed?

the app is mostly great, good features, i use the EQ often and the surround stuff is cool too, BUT…
there are far too many cases where i open the app and it says “Not connected to WH-XB900N. Check that the power of the device is on and connect the device via Bluetooth.” even though i’m literally listening to music through the headphones from my phone at that very moment!!
only way i’ve found to fix it is to disconnect the headphones and reconnect them, which is an annoying inconvenience. it happens often enough that i’ve dropped two stars because of this issue. please fix it.

Don’t rely on the app!!

Bought a pair of WF-1000XM3s for my birthday last month. Had no issues pairing them with my iPhone. Only recently I’m having some issues with pairing them. I also use the headphones with my MacBook, and every time I switch devices I have to factory reset them. It isn’t an issue - it takes 30 seconds max to reset and pair - but coming back onto the app takes a while. For some reason the device connects with Bluetooth to my iPhone, just the app doesn’t register the device. I have to keep resetting the app for it to work. Like I said, once you’ve customised your settings, only rely on the app for battery levels - despite this, the noise cancelling setting are impeccable!!!

Why don’t all apps have iPad versions

I store all my music on my iPad Pro which has a Magic Keyboard. To enter data into apps that are only designed for the iPhone requires that I either have to read sideways or rotate the whole device and type at 90 degrees. I know I could take the iPad off the keyboard and use the on screen keyboard with the iPad in portrait mode, but I couldn’t have this rant if I did that. I don’t need the app to look beautiful on the landscape iPad screen, just for it to twizzle round so I easily see where I am typing and use the keyboard. A lot of apps are like this; surely it is time developers catered for horizontal iPad users.

Multiple issues that need to be addressed

I have been using Sony WH-1000XM4 with this app and the experience so far wasn't good. Firstly, the UI/UX is not straightforward and badly organized. Labels and submenus especially.
When connecting to multiple devices, the app wont recognize any device, pending with message: "Not connected", even though the headphones are indeed connected and playing music.
It is impossible to switch between both devices on the fly with the app. Instead, one place has to stop playing sound and after 7-10 seconds the target input will switch without any notification. A simple "switching audio input" message would be helpful. Finally, third party app configuration is very limited. Sometimes when using multiple device mode and when connected to smartphone, apps like Duolingo and discord wont work with microphone. This is not a hardware issue and could be relatively easy get patched with an update yet the developers do not prioritize these important issues. For the price I paid for the headphones, I was expecting a rather decent companion app. I hope developers and project managers prioritize some more time on this app and their headphones. Thank you.

Equalizer restarts every time I connect to PC

Please make the Equaliser remember my preference of Clear Bass +10 no matter what device I’m connected to until I decide to change it. Now every time I connect to my PC the Clear Bass +10 is gone as there is no app for PC where I can enable it(even if there is it will be very annoying to do this every time). Every time I connect back to my iPhone I have to enable it again = connect to the app > wait few seconds > sound > Equaliser > manual... I switch between devices few times a day and it’s really annoying to do that every single time. Please fix it.

Odd review

When working its great, with the wh-1000xm3 it really makes a great difference listening to music, trouble is as with a lot of these software releases its trying to be too clever and consequently *ducks up, connection floats in and out, tries to tell you when you want noise cancelling etc. Just create the app, support basic features and if someone wants the additional stuff do an advanced versions ffs, as you have already learned over the years pee your customers off and they don’t come back, some times less is more! Ps this not just a disease that affects Sony, ‘it just works’ has landed back on the strategy deck of another big company, reassuringly.

Life changing!

My apartment is surrounded by noisy neighbors and construction. I wear these headphones with or without music playing and it cuts out almost all the unwanted noise. Makes me so much calmer and able to focus. Also great for traveling, especially on planes to cut out the constant rumble of the jet and other passengers chatting. The sound quality is magical! I’ve never heard my favorite music sound so good. I also use these for music and voiceover production and they are the best ever.

It’s a good app, but it could be better.

I have used this app extensively with my Sony 1000-XM3s and have found that the app has come a long way since it’s earlier days. Updates are still hard to manually do, with no option to download and then install at a later time, however it has become a lot more intuitive since.
What I would really like to see is an option to create a “Personalised Audio Profile” similar to Samsung’s ‘Adapt Sound’ whereby a crude audio test is performed in each earphone and then the sound played back is boosted in the frequencies that the user didn’t hear as well in. So to see this in the app, and downloaded to the earphones like the current EQ Profiles would be a huge improvement over manual adjustment!

Awful app for a visually impaired person

I have the Sony WH -1000xm3 and they are fantastic to use. However, when using the app it’s awful the user interface could be drastically improved by 100%. I am totally blind and I use the iPhone 8 with voice-over with the latest version of iOS 13.6 as I’m writing this review. None of the buttons are accessible, there is no labelling you don’t even know what you’re pressing so I really wish they could do more work on this. Since you’re a multi billion dollar company, you think you would work on these features to make it very accessible for anybody. I don’t see much accessibility on your app. This review is purely based on your app, I look forward to getting some feedback as I think I have given a fairly accurate description of how bad the app really is.

Setting adjustment needs improvement

This app has some cool features that I’ve never experienced before, and brings some great control to the headphones. However, the way in which some settings are controlled needs changing. The Surround (VPT) setting is very clunky and you need to switch one by one through the different settings instead of displaying them in a more easily navigable list. This is the same with EQ control. It interrupts the listening experience a lot when having to flick through these settings to get to the one you want, as the music temporarily stops between each setting. Hope to see this improved :)

Could do better

I’ve had this app for four days now. First if all I wondered ‘why all the low stars?’ I guess I understand a bit now. When the app works, it’s fine. Not very exciting, but really ok. Trouble is, sometimes it just won’t connect, even though the music is playing in your earphones. Not sure about the charging case battery percentage, not very responsive, or utterly fantastic battery! ?
If it was designed by Apple it would look better, no doubt. Absolutely love the WF-1000XM3’s though. Come on Sony! Great products. Make great app! 😉

good app

The app is good with an sufficient user interface. The purpose of my review though is to give a suggestion for the app which would really benefit me. I’m slightly deaf in one ear more than the other. I use the WH-1000XM3 headphones and I would love love love it if I could have more control over the position of the sound. The app allows me to choose out of 6 positions but it would be so useful if I could chose a position slightly towards my deafer ear so that the volume is balanced in both ears for me. In other words my central position of sound is different to that of people with perfect hearing. If I could adjust this I would be super happy!

Fine, but...

The app is generally fine, with one exception. It claims to inform the user of headphone and headphones charging case battery level. On several occasions I w had my headphones die on me (battery empty) when the app claimed that they were at 100% battery. In fact the app constantly claims the battery level is 100% when this patently can’t be the case. Sort it out Sony, quality of life bugs like this are unacceptable given the price of the latest headphones.

App problems

Hi all I love these headphones!! The sound quality on them is superb, however after a couple of months of having them the app has stopped working which is very frustrating. The app will not let me agree to the terms and conditions etc (which I’d already agreed too a couple of months ago) please sort the app out it’s terrible.

Headphones Connect broken

I have had the sony wh-1000xm3 and this app for a couple months now and everything has been running fine and smoothly. However, this morning when i scrolled through a privacy policy agreement and ticked the box as usual (using mobile data this time as i was outside) the app just froze and when i closed and reopened it the app just lead me to a blank page and that’s all. I have just re installed the app and now when i click next after the privacy policy page it just freezes please fix this ASAP because i like changing the sound settings for different genres of music.

It's very good, but listen to feedback.

This app allows you to configure wireless and noise cancelling headphones in the Sony product portfolio. It is versatile and provides excellent headphone personalisation. I am not aware of anything similar from the headphone competition.
Equaliser: This is the feature I like most. My WH-1000XM2 headphones arrived with a ”default” sound signature. For my ears, they had too much bass and the mid-range vocals were lacking. Using the app equaliser, I managed to optimize these ”deficiencies” and now have the best sounding cans I’ve ever owned. Incredibly clean & detailed mids & treble, plus just enough low end thump (10Hz) to warm up the overall sound without veiling the aforementioned detail.
Why not 5 Stars? There is an annoying uncontrollable ”increasing volume” bug when listening without noise cancelling. I’ve submitted 3 reports to Sony via Apple with lots of information and nothing has improved. Come on Sony!

Difficult to change device without internet

Had my Bose QC35 stolen so went for a change and replaced with these. I think noise cancelling on aircraft is slightly better, sound quality similar and very good and controls good once you get used to them. Issue is with this app; connectivity can be a pain. Sometimes I want to change from iPad (movies)to music on my iPhone. When I go to the app to change to the different device it asks me to agree to terms others complain about. Great but it needs an internet connection to do that, difficult 10,000 meters over the Atlantic. It’s asked me several times to agree, maybe it will realise I’ve done that eventually. This is a real pain and needs to be sorted, either stop taking the data that requires you to put a release in front of us every time we connect or work out another get around. Overall connectivity to a device is also much harder than for Bose.

Could provide functionality when only connected over Bluetooth LE

Headphones have a Bluetooth LE connection, why can’t this be used in conjunction with the app for configuring the headphones when another source is connected via Bluetooth or cable?
Also, privacy policy should make clearer what is collected and what it is used for. The app is for expensive headphones whose features cannot all be accessed without an app which cannot be used until consent is given to an overly vague policy.
Also, the application would be considerably more useful if it provided 3D Touch quick actions from the icon on the home screen. For example the ability to switch between ambient noise, wind noise reduction and noise cancelling modes from the home screen without actually opening the app.

The app works great however...

It is unbelievably irritating that every time I switch the headphones off and then back on that I have to change the noise cancelling. Sometimes I’ll forget and then I can barely hear anything because of the wind. Is there a chance you could implement what you’ve done for the equaliser and VPT? It works great with them, where it is always set to the same unless changed and even after changes stays at that until changed again, irrespective of if it is switched off. PLEASE can you implement this, it will no doubt be a headphone firmware update but judging by the way the other two are implemented it must be doable. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. After that, they will be PERFECT!

Several glitches - needs a fix ASAP

I recently bought the WH 1000X m3 headphones. The headphones are absolutely fantastic, no complaints there. Very easy to use.
The app is very intuitive and easy to use.
However, like some other users, I also find on some occasions the app insists on reconnecting the headphones even though the Bluetooth pairing is fine. No idea why!
My second issue is that, the app or the headphones tend to overwrite (make global changes) my iPhone’s volume settings. With the headphones on, the alerts have to be at a low volume but as soon as these are disconnected the iPhone’s volume should go back to its original state. This doesn’t seem to be happening!
Lastly, I am not sure why the adaptive sound control needs user’s location. Even though I select “only while using the app” the location seems to be on in the background. That’s a tad bit unfair and also drains the battery quickly (especially on long haul flights, using location data continuously seems useless). Adaptive sound control without the need of location would be ideal!
Please release a fix soon!

Great app

I found the app worked perfectly on my up to date iOS on my iPhone 7. I tested the headphones against the Bose headphones which weren’t as clear and the BnO ones which looked epic, sounded great but weren’t comfortable. What sold it for me was the Sony has very effective noise cancelling + the app has a graphic equaliser that allows you to adjust the sound to your liking. The ultimate test was on a 10 hour flight where they sounded fantastic + even cancelled out the noise during take off... spooky! So I like stuff that just works and these do.

Poor functionality

It’s a nightmare to get this software connect to the headphones on iOS. Although running latest version of iOS (i.e. 11.3.1 when writing this review) and the latest version of the app, several attempts and tricks are required for the app to eventually connect to the headphones.
Although BT is enabled, headphones connected, working fine, the software refuses to detect them on most occasions.
It’s a shame really as the headphones are great with some useful features through the app, provided one manages to connect...
