Followed users and stories is not working
Mostly a great app, except the followed users and stories is not working for me. Also it would be handy if the app could record read stories or have the ability to mark as ‘read’.
Love the audio accessibility feature and being able to change font sizes/dark mode etc.

Good app but needs improving!
I publish stories using the app, and love having the ease of access to my stories and others, but since having it, there is no way of checking my story/traffic stats. Even when using the web, if I try to access them, it just opens the app. We need an update with this ability, then I would happily give 5*

Fix the search engine
The search engine in the app is crap. If I have saved items or bookmarked items I can find them easily, but trying looking for anything new on a particular subject forget it. Need to have the same search functions that were on the website, so you could pick by movies, books, shows, characters etc.

Fix the updates
The app used to work great and every time I opened the app it would give me notifications of stories that had updated in my library. This made it really easy to keep up with my favorite stories.
Unfortunately, recently this has stopped and now I have no idea which stories are updating and I have to manually go through each one to check for updates.
I would give the app 5 stars if this issue is resolved.

Easy and Simple
It does what it’s meant to do. The mobile website is fairly useless. This app does the job with no extra frills.
It’s easy to search for a story/author. It’s easy to have saved searches, including filters. You can bookmark a specific location in a story (good if the chapter is long!). It remembers what you last read in addition to providing a history of what you’ve read.
Searching/reading, uploading & managing your story. I recently uploaded a new chapter and it was, arguably, faster than doing it on my laptop.

The block doesn’t work as I block someone on there and yet I still getting harassed, stalk and abusive comments from them.

Safari/email to the app.
Once again I write this review and it’s a shame I have to because it was all fixed since I last wrote this in about August? But the app is back to automatically opening up links from safari or email into the app and I don’t like the fact it moves everything over to the app because I have a lot of FanFiction.Net tabs open and they continually open into the app which means my app gets clogged up. Wish you could just make it optional again as it was far easier and nicer. Then having every update email open into the app forcibly moving the fanfic aside that you were reading in the app. Again not impressed.

It’s okay…
I love to write on this app however I upload them elsewhere because it is hard to use and very difficult to navigate. There’s never any updates either which isn’t very good. However it is good for writing and saving your fics on it.

Overall bad
It could be really great , but searching is a pain and sometimes I’ll find stories on the website and they just won’t show up on the app.
I’ve been trying to read a story but every time I leave the app it puts me back onto chapter thirteen for no reason. It also stopped me from using the website. It shows a thing that says ‘open in the app?’ And even when I clicked cancel it went to the app anyways.
It has some good features like downloading stories and being able to read offline but overall it’s not that great and I’m uninstalling.

cannot make an account it says the password must not contain username or email which it does not and must meet requirements which it does even the auto generated passwords by apple are rejected it wont allow sign up so there is a bug which prevents me from even using the app

A few recommendations…
I don’t really get why this app is rated so low, I’ve never experienced any major problems with this app, although there is the occasional annoyance. The first one being that when you use a search, read a fic, and go back, it takes you all the way back to the Home Screen, in the mobile web version, there were pages after you made a search, and while it didn’t take you to exactly where you scrolled to, it at least took you to the page you were on. I will say though that the search saves are very useful, and I use them frequently.
My second gripe is the obvious one that many have, that being that when you close the app and start reading your last read page, it goes right back to the start, this is especially problematic with fics that have very long chapters (which is frequently the case with all the good ones), where it takes uncomfortably long to get back to where you were previously.
Lastly, the themes disappointed me, I like reading before bed in the dark, so when I say the theme to dark, I expected it to be dark! Not just using black borders, I mean the background should be black and the text should be white, to make it easier on the eyes in the dark. Failing this, there should be an option in the settings where you can choose your background and text colour.
The web version is so much better than the app, the only reason I solely use the app now is because it works, and for convenience, which is not an ideal reason for your users to use it, the app needs to surpass the website and offer more, as a kind of reward for people who take the time and storage space on their phone for the app.
I’m a novice programmer, so I know how hard making changes like this can be, but I hope you take my recommendations for improvements for this app.

Doesn’t work
Downloaded, opened. Forces you to create a log in (why?), offers the option to log in with Google account. Tried that, went through the permissions etc, then it just took me right back to the log in screen again with no progress.
Tried then to sign up instead. It wouldn’t except my password (contains an upper and lower case letters, numbers etc), wouldn’t say what was wrong with it either. I have given up and deleted it, and downloaded a different app.

Squandered potential
This app could be a fantastic upgrade from the browser experience for both readers and writers.
Instead it’s laggy and unresponsive, there are very few features to make it easier to browse, no way to mark stories as read, every time it refreshes you lose your place in a chapter, the search is lacklustre and generally it’s a port with little imagination. I really hope to see better updates in the future.
The interface is clean-looking, font options are nice and the notifications are helpful - or at least would be if they were consistent - but overall needs a lot of work.

Too hard... but cool stories!
Hi. The app is really confusing and hard to use, if you want a good writing/reading app I suggest Wattpad. It’s so easy to use it took me seconds to figure it out.
Half an hour in to FanFiction.Net and I have only managed to sort my profile picture out. :( giving 2 stars for the awesome books I managed to find on the mobile website though!
If you’re wondering about the website just search on your browser what type of fanfiction you want to read e.g ‘avengers meet Loki fanfiction’ and FanFiction.Net comes up with some cool stuff.

I don’t know if I’m missing something, but if this is an option to exclude read fics from searches it would make life much easier than scrolling 20 times to get to the ones you haven’t read yet, and opening things by mistake. Please could this be a thing?

TTS Changes
It’s been a while that TTS has been around, and I find it a really helpful addition which I love using. Despite the fact that it’s not as good compared to actually reading stories visually, and the fact that at times it mispronounces simple words and it’s overall deadpan, it’s helpful when wanting to focus on other things, leaving on in the background and being able to listen in as if it were a monotone podcast. Perfect for when you need to sleep.
The best feature, and one of the biggest reasons why I still use it is the fact that you can play music in the background, and the audio continues to play. An example would be selecting a Spotify playlist, going into the app and then turning on TTS. The music continues, though the app lowers the music volume slightly to allow for a pleasant listening experience.
The problem is, in the recent update this feature has been removed, meaning I cannot select both music and TTS audio, only one can play at a time. Either they have removed this or the app is extremely inconsistent with the way it works, both are possible since this problem has been constantly occurring, more so in recent days. I find it very difficult to listen to if I can’t have my own music playing in the background, because just hearing a monotonous voice droning about the words on a page on its own is just downright unnerving, and is making me consider dropping TTS altogether.
So please, could you fix this issue. Either make it work consistently, or re-add this removed feature. It would make me happy, make a lot of people happy.

Just downloaded this app. Tried to find a story - initially found on the internet, which shows it’s on this FanFiction app but after spending about an hour I’ve had no luck. It doesn’t recognise the title, there’s no option to find story via author’s name and there’s no ‘help’ facility that I can find. 😡

Laggy and unhelpful
The app is very laggy and often will just straight out refuse to load story pages - even if before it had no issues.
Finding a particular story is often hard and very time consuming. The search parameters are finicky at best.
This site is outdated and the moderation is childish at best. “M” rated stories are PG often due to an “elite” team of moderators who can’t understand what a “mature” rating actually means.
If you want to read fan fiction I’d advise you use another site!

Has a long way to go before replacing desktop
After the mobile site no longer allows mobile users to switch to the desktop version, I had no choice but to use this app. And right away there are problems. The lag being a big factor. But another big factor is that when I go into doc manager to upload my stories, I can’t upload files as it just shows a blank screen. So I have to copy and paste onto their text box and apply all my fonts and italics all over again.
If they can at least fix the second issue, then I could live with the rest but until then, it’s getting very hard to upload on this site, especially with a very inferior app.

Communities
The app is great, but I can’t search for communities and have to first search them on google and then try to find the fic on the app. If you fixed this everything would be perfect and I’d rate it five stars. Just add a search engine for communities like you do for fics because it’s hectic trying to find a community with good fics otherwise or for something specific.

Very good but...
The app is brilliant as access the stories I’ve already read as well as access and search for new stories. However, when I filter stories with specific character pairs it comes up with no stories with that pair. Therefore, it makes it difficult to filter through hundreds or over a thousand stories.

Pretty good if you forget the search function.
All around this app provides an appealing way of reading on your phone.
The problem however comes if you are using the search bar to look for a novel. It works in the barest sense of the words. I’ve had to google what I am looking for and then add filter tags to narrow down the results to find the title I want.

No longer supported
I used to use this app after a fan reader was taken off the App Store. Sadly this is no longer accessible to me either as it is no longer supported on my device, which is most disappointing considering it was working fine less than a week before. Why they don't provide the older version, I don't know. I can't access it in an easy matter as the other apps available are nowhere near as polished or compatible with my iPad. It's not like I can afford a new one. Greatly disappointed, I hope they change their tune at some point.

Major issue
Usually, I use this app all the time. I would rate it 5 stars, but ever since the last update, I’ve had a really big problem. Whenever I try to make a change to my documents, be it fixing spelling mistakes or writing full paragraphs, the second I exit out of it, everything is erased. The work is gone. My documents have remained the exact same for a good month or two, and nothing I try to do works! I really need something to fix this ;-;

Stick to safari
Honestly I’m disappointed I’ve spent countless hours on safari reading and finally decided to get the app (no idea why it took so long) but I’m extremely disappointed. By no means is it as bad as some other games like R S l but I can honestly say that it’s better in the browser I’ve learnt to dread the updates as it slowed everything down for minor improvements and its frustrating to write on. All in all just stick to your browser.

Mediocre, horrible updates
I used to like this app, finding it perfectly fine to use. It’s very hard to navigate at first, but you do get used to it. Although, my biggest complaint would be the updating.
Normally, I love it when an app updates. But for FF, I seem to dread them, wondering if I can delay the automatic update somehow. They’re quite problematic, especially since all they seem to do is ‘fix bugs’ and ‘smooth scrolling’.
Of course, the bugs were annoying, but I deduced that most of us know how to deal with them. I’m glad they’ve supposedly been fixed. Scrolling is such a trivial thing to work on. As a customer, I can assure you we don’t care about that.
My biggest problem with updates is that they’re more trouble than they’re worth. Sure, some bugs are fixed, but at what cost? At the comfort of writing. For a few bugs, I find it uncomfortable to write.
Firstly, the writing font has gone all funky. It’s too big, so I changed the size, only to find I’m unhappy about that too. It barely changed. You can’t change the font either through settings, only the reading font.
Secondly, how the heck am I supposed to have titles and time skips if I’ve lost my liberty to choose whether the words go on the side or in the centre? It’s ridiculous. Of course, it seems like I’m being dramatic, but once you see it, you’ll kind of get it too.

Used to be good but now not so much
I agree with the other reviewers. The app used to be great but the recent changes have made it barely useable.
It doesn’t remember where in the chapter you were, going to the start of a chapter (it didn’t used to). The bookmark feature can’t be turned off so I spend an awful lot of time cancelling the notification whilst reading. It now doesn’t remember which stories you were reading, what you recently downloaded or the progress of the stories. Chapters appear blank until refreshed restarting them. The new recommendations appears at the top of a chapter not at the bottom blocking the start of the chapter and neither is it compatible with the dark backgrounds.
The text to audio is a nice feature but it’s clunky with some development work this could be a great feature.
All in all the app used to be great it’s now ok but several recent changes make it barely useable.

Good layout, but won’t load...
The layout is really nice and easy to use- I love the ability to change font size and page colour. Its easy to find things and search for stories, but about 50% of the time, stories won’t load or my profile won’t load. This seems to be a problem on the iPad as if I go on the app on my phone, it seems to be fine. I also go onto it through the website and it works, but the app doesn’t seem to like the iPad...

App stopped working
So I use this app quite often and a lot of the fanfictions are quite nice. Recently I encountered a problem. What’s happening is that it will not let me go on my profile, read fanfictions or let me search for any new ones so basically the app just stopped working. I’ve had similar problems in the past, also before this happened it would switch to one font by its self and I would have to leave the fanfiction then go back off of it to fix its self

Good app when it works 60% of the time
It’s a great app I’ll give it that but it’s constantly plagued with ‘unable to load’ screens or ‘request failed’ with full WiFi or 4G. It’s not a connectivity issue on my part purely down to the buggy app. I’ve been using this for years, I would’ve thought the developers would’ve sorted this by now.
It actually works better offline, there it loads perfectly fine.

Amazing except one issue
Overall the app is really good and entertaining but here are two issues for me. The first one is that it won’t let me probably scroll and it gets really annoying, the second is that on some games like destiny, you can’t put characters like Andal Brask or Tevis as main characters.

Font Size
I love how big the writing will get when you’re reading a fic but as someone who can’t see very well it can get very hard to read the rest of the app. Is there a way you could have settings increase the size more than it already does? Absolutely amazing app :)

Good but ...
Love it use it daily the only big let down is when u use the audiobook option it doesn’t automatically continue to the next page and that’s a big disappointment u have to open your phone n slide to the next page n hit play again it’s very inconvenient since I listen to stories while at work . Not too bad
The app is okay, however anytime there are updates what I have been reading disappears and i have to make sure I remember the title of what I’m reading. I also wish you could see your reading progress as it makes it difficult to see which ones have been read already. I have my favourites I reread occasionally however this version of ff I only have 230 stories and it makes searching for a new story to read more time consuming as I have to go into each story and see where each one is at.
Also the folders, you put titles into it and they don’t always stay there. I have one that says I have 54 but when I go into it there are only 13.
So overall, okay but could be better

Frustrating.
Please, for the love of god, fix the bug that doesn’t allow me to put spaces between words when tilting a chapter or fan fiction. My stories are all one worded generic titles with ONE worded titled chapters. This is really frustrating. Also, when I’m searching for a story and decide to filter it, nothing changes, but only shows every story of that category. So the filters are very pointless and I’m finding myself looking through every story until I find something of my liking with a preferred amount of words.

Version 17.4 broke the app
Used to be an absolutely essential app to read and record reading history of all the FanFiction stories read.
Since updating to version 17.4 ‘last reading’ and library function no longer retains details of stories accessed and read.
Have lost favourites and following tags on stories.
Version 17.5 hasn’t fixed the issue.
Very frustrating to manually re-find the story I was reading 30 seconds ago but the app has forgotten.
I’ve emailed the developer through the bug report in the app. Really hope this can be fixed quickly but until then read at your peril, or at least with a pen and paper to hand to keep your own list!

Great app overall
I find that it is a great app overall, it takes some getting used to and takes some time to figure out certain things about it but after that it makes accessing your favourite fan fictions so much easier. Would and have recommended.

Was good but won’t load properly anymore
This app was good and I’ve spent ages using to read many different types of stories, some really well written too! However, since the last update the app will not load the stories, from any of the categories, at all. It’s just endless loading. This has never happened before and it’s no good.
This needs to be fixed, otherwise the apps useless. Also, a suggestion I think would be useful would be to add the ability to exclude more characters from a story. You can pick 4 characters to have in a story and that’s good. However, if the fandom has a big cast and you can only exclude 2 like oc’s and someone else, your still possibly stuck with another couple who you might not want. The ability to narrow the stories characters down further would be good to have.
However first fix the app first please!

Good but...
It’s great to use for reading but sometimes my downloaded stories won’t load. There’ll just be blank pages like it’s just given up trying to load them. It has also been giving me update notifications for stories that are already complete which makes it harder for me to keep track of the ongoing stories that I’m reading.

Fantastic app absolutely love it
I love reading fan fictions and sometimes I enjoy them so much I rather them to the actual book or film they are based on. It’s a fantastic app and I don’t have anything against it apart from HOW DO YOU CHANGE YOUR PROFILE PIC. honestly it’s just so confusing but other than that I love the app and I would recommend this to everyone.

Review
I love this app but recently it just wouldn’t update and my recent stories and favorites keep getting jumbled up. Also the app won’t let me search for stories weather I’ve already saved them or just looking for a new story or trying to search for a community or author it just doesn’t work. I also never get notifications even though I approved push notifications.

A Bit of QoS Needed but great
For reference I tend to use the app to take my current reading list offline as I travel a lot and don’t always have internet
To begin with I find very few things annoying...
However trying to read offline and having the “ please reconnect to WiFi / internet” constantly popping up is really Distracting and takes away from the reading experience.
Please either limit this to Preferably app Startup or give us a way to dictate when such messages should popup. (Eg “ Quiet Mode”)
Finally we need a way to export our current app Library to use on PC instead of having to use share “story” for each and every downloaded fanfic.

One feature I really miss
This app has been getting better with every update, and I’m glad to see frequent updates. However, for an app that has a lot of navigation, it sorely lack swipe right from the edge to go back feature. Every app has it these days, I’m so used to it I sometimes forget and find myself swiping from the edge all the time and getting frustrated when nothing happens.

Good App, but...
I have the latest version (12.0.2) and it’s supposed to not stop background music playing, but it does. In addition, the app now crashes far more frequently than it used to (prior to v12). Can this be fixed? I’ll sometimes come to a story I was reading five minutes prior, and the app will crash and I’ll lose my progress. Good app, but needs improvement.

Some good, some room for improvement
I like being able to download stories and the screen colour choices so I can reduce blue light which has helped me sleep, being able to swipe to next page is a lot better, automatic download of followed stories is also good.
But I’m still finding navigation hard and searching is difficult.

It’s frustrating
I love this app and I have had it for years but when go to the fandom and I want to put certain specific features that I want, it won’t work. I’ll be able to select my choice but when I go to search for it, it will just stay the same. It’s so frustrating when you tap that stupid little search icon island it staying the same

Latest update terrible
This would’ve been a 5 star because since I’ve gotten this app it has been brilliant I love reading Fan-fiction and I’ve loved every minute of this app! But I’ve just recently updated it to I think it’s 10.2 and it’s went downhill. It’s been taking ages to load and whenever I try and scroll down further i get ‘Request Failed’ and now it’s asking me to log in again but it won’t let me! This new update comes with bug fixes but there were no bugs to fix to begin with this new update has just brought more bugs! I hope it’s fixed soon because this is an amazing app!

It’s good but...
It’s hard to navigate. It is easier than it was before but still hard to work my way through it. My main criticism is that you can’t search through the favourites. It’s a hassle having to go scroll through all your favourites just to find a particular story you are wanting to read.
And also it would be so much better if we can read through our own library offline. I read a lot of FanFiction, and in the other apps they have offline reading which is why I didn’t use this app as much. However the other apps have completely stopped working and am unable to login and have to come back on here. Having the offline reading would be so much as I like to read when I’m on a long haul flight or somewhere where there is no internet connection

Good App, Hard to Navigate
I would have rated it higher, however, it was difficult to navigate unlike the actual website where every tv show, game, anime, etc, was split up into their own categories with in could be easily found and the stories I’m looking for found even easier with the ability to select things, like story length, language, genre and searching for stories with those properties. There was also some problems when reading stories, the bottom and top banners would come and go at the slightest provocation and I would accidentally switch chapter just as easily when not wanting to do any of this.

Lastest Update
Lastest Update has caused slight orientation issues with the app. Restarting app fixes this for a while but it is an irratation. One of the more annoying bugs is the amount of the lag in the library section, especially if you've downloaded alot of stories (Was much much more responsive in previous iteration of this app). What i would like to see eventually: Select All button where i can decide whether i want to Download my Favourites or move though tons of stories into different folders. For a person who reads alot its annoying that i cant just download all my favourites in one go.

Really good
Very easy to use and navigate after a bit of getting used to and much better than using the website except for a few small things; my PM messages don’t show up in the app as well as my saved searches not syncing between my devices despite using the same account on both of them

Really good for reading on the go, the download feature is very good, but it’s very hard to move around. Maybe a simpler menu? I’m sure it’ll get easier to navigate in the future (I hope) but right now it takes a while to figure out what is where and that makes it very hard to browse for new fics to read

Great App.
This app is great, especially if people want to create their own stories, although a thing I would like to see in the future is a "bookmark" feature, probably only one per story to make it easier to find where you was last, or it could change the text colour, or add a little bookmark icon that people can skip to.

Great app
The app is very fluid and works well, I was surprised that it worked as well as it did. My only issue is I wish there was a reload or refresh page button like on a browser. I use fanfic for stories and forums and to reload the forum you have to back out then go back into the forum to check if there has been a reply. Other than this the app is great.

Very good but...
The application is great, however there is a big annoyance:
When reading, the tap to toggle full screen function can get quite annoying. It'd be great if you could add a button in the settings that allows you to turn it off, or perhaps settings which allow you to choose a part of the screen to tap on to toggle the full screen; or a setting which changes the toggle into a button in a corner of the screen. As it right now it can be hard to get immersed in a story with the application because an accidental brush can toggle off or on the fullscreen reading mode again.

Aside from the fact that when reading the screen is a bit werid and when I go out of the app it travels a few paragraphs back from where I was reading. Great app though! Would've given it a five star rating if the reading system worked better like the one from Wattpad.

Great start
I wish the app had more of the website layout that frequent users have come to know and love.
It would be useful if there was a select all button when downloading favourites as I have over 1000 and had to manually select each one.
When searching through the stories of authors, it would be nice to have a way to filter a certain fandom like we are able to do on the website.
Basically, I'm glad that there is finally an app, but I wish it had a layout more like the website. If the app could literally just have the same layout as the website but have an offline feature, it would be perfect and I would rate it 5 stars

Great
I love that it's now an app, so much easier to use the only thing missing is the full search that we have on the website. By that I mean searching by characters or pairing, I don't know if it's simply I don't know where that option is or if it's genuinely not available within the app because I think that such an awesome feature.

Well worth the download!
The app is easy to use, runs without jumping. You can personalise your account settings much easier and the overall look is so much better than I expected! Goodbye using web apps/services. Hello new app!

Keeps getting better
New update is great! Smoother scrolling and it doesn't randomly switch from full screen to no full screen when scrolling.
One thing i realised is that i can highlight and select a word(s) especially when i want to look up definitions. Am wondering if that's done on purpose or if it's a bug. Would love for me to be able to highlight and look up definition of words though!
Otherwise, great app!
