Superb App

Fantastic management of my personal POI, please please please do not change this, other apps have left poi management behind in exchange for offering recommended trails etc, I think I use this app pretty much every other day for route planning and poi’s, listing details of where I would like to go, fantastic, keep up the good work 👍👍👍

Doesnt appear to be very useful for those in the uk

No OS maps. No extra maps without either a very expensive or an extremely expensive yearly subscription. Footpaths marked as dotted grey on a grey background, seriously. And what on earth is the difference between walking, hiking and backpacking? Its one of the first questions i am asked to choose and ? They’re the same dam thing! Just a big fat no.

Random crash and loss of data

Used it for over 2 years. But no more...

Just received a very random crash and all my data is gone. All my tracked hikes, created tracks, saved maps - all gone.

I just tried to open the app as usual, and it would go into black screen mode. Then an error appeared “critical error occurred.... all you data is gone... support might be able to recover some”...

Thankfully, it didnt happen while I was in the wild hiking without any other maps... Lesson learned never trust Gaia, and always have a paper map as a backup.

Amazing!

Downloaded this as always struggle finding the right path when hillwalking and always having to ask people. This app easily tells you where you are and what hills are around you and even how far away you are from summit - which is free! Amazing

The best navigation tool

Awesome app. If they added OS 1:25k maps to this app it would beat everything else available.

No use for navigation in the uk

I have not subscribed so there may be more but without being able to see it I can only judge the app by what I can see. Useless for navigation in the uk maps. No boundaries, no hedges, paths disappear when they meet lanes so you cannot tell where they run. Unusable. Looks nice though.

My mapping app of choice

GaiaGPS has been my map-following/ route-planning /track recording app of choice for quite some years now, and it continues to do a solid job for me:

✔️ GPX track import.

- I often load in routes from other sources. GaiaGPS makes this easy

✔️ map download for offline use

- saving an entire neighbourhood or city, or all the map segments along a route is really convenient.

✔️ built-in route planning for walking, cycling, motor-vehicle

- It’s really convenient to be able to plan a new route manually or semi-automatically, for later use, right there on the map.

✔️ track recording

- whilst following a previous route, or seeing where I end up, I can record where I actually went, speeds, elevations, etc. I can see how long I’ve been riding or walking for, average speeds/pace.

✔️ GPX track export

- I can save the track data out for use elsewhere.

Amazing app!!!

I’ve been recently getting into outdoor walking and I’d never have tried it without this app, love walking along the paths that I didn’t even know existed and I am able to follow them easily on the map. I also like the recording feature which allows you to create your own route when exploring, you are also able to plan your route on a Mac or PC and sync it to your phone. Well done to the creators of the app and I’ll definitely consider upgrading in the near future.

Map on watch is unacceptable slow.

Map on watch is unacceptable slow, hence the app is not (yet?) for me. I hope it can be fixed quickly. For now I’ve to stick with ViewRanger.

Best GPS app

I’ve been using this for trail running, mountain biking and bikepacking for two years and wouldn’t use anything else. It has great compatibility with various maps, offline navigation is super reliable and the whole situation uses barely any battery. Subscription is completely worth the money.

Best for walking

I used MotionX GPS for years. Does the job but its UI is decidedly... different. This app is so clean and a pleasure to use.

Great app!

I use the OS app when in UK and love it. When walking elsewhere I have struggled to find anything to match it. However Gaia in the main does that and in some respects is even better. I find the interface more logical and it’s easier to record tracks. I love how when planning a route you can choose the hike option and it automatically snaps to the nearest marked footpaths.

I’m current walking in Mallorca and the Topo Map overlay detail is very good (not quite OS standards but then nothing is). My only criticism to date is that the contour maps do not always align properly. In some cases this is hilarious - giving a 150m gradient in the sea! I have a screen shot but sadly can’t append it here.

Can't login via Facebook

Old customer here. Trying to get the complimentary 2-years subscription. Using Facebook to log in since I have no other Gaia account. Login fails as it keeps asking me to create account.
