Too many ads lots of annoying rewards

Ads after every turn it’s ridiculous! I do t mind a few but it’s far too many and I’ll be damned if I will buy a no ads version. Perhaps would have done if it wasn’t such a blatant intention to make you but the no ad version. Also when you get rewards you have to go through several stages to claim . Great game annoying app.

Great game- ruined by relentless repeated ads for games I definitely don’t want to play. Why do you force me to watch ad trailers that I clearly have no interest in? Over and over again? Surely your advertisers don’t want you to waste their money on people that aren’t interested?

Very good, but…

I enjoy playing this game against random live contestants, even if some folks use the platform just to make contacts for scamming.

Playing against the computer has a glitch in the scoring. If the AI plays the last tile, you get the bonus points for tiles left in your hand.

Challenging, educational and highly addictive.

My best single word score is 122 points!

A few issues

I absolutely love playing scrabble, I’d say it’s definitely the best scrabble game app in terms of the neat layout and no lagging etc. However, the cons outweigh the pros. 1) WAY TOO MANY ADS. 2) Random, unnecessary and annoying treasure chests. 3) Constantly have to claim rewards from you’re inbox instead of automatically receiving them. Firstly, the flipping ads! After every move you make, a 20-30 second ad pops up that you can’t skip. Also, some of these ads require you to press play so they are making sure you’re not just sitting there not looking at the ad. When you click the x button off some of the ads, another one will play straight after and you have to wait for that one as-well. I’m not being funny but how many times do I need to see an ad for “gardenscapes”? I’m literally not interested, if you’re going to flash the ads every two seconds, at least switch them up. Another issue that I find strange is the fact that you have some sort of music book as part of the winning rewards etc, as you play scrabble games you will acquire cards that are put into a treasure chest. I find this a really bizarre rewarding mechanism and completely unnecessary and time consuming. Also, if you do win other rewards such as diamonds or coins - be sure to constantly check your inbox to claim the rewards instead of just automatically receiving them.

Play with friend. To many adds.

To many adds on this game, you have to subscribe to remove adds I would rather just pay a 1 of payment to remove them. But this game is just scrabble, it’s fun for me. Some other features like tournaments you can collect stuff. Not my thing. You can also get help putting a word on the board by watching an add which is annoying, when I play scrabble I only put words down that I know so online play isn’t really fair at all. I mean you can play and learn but I’ll just stick to playing the bot to have a fair game or play with my friends.

You can also hold down the word to see the definition of that word wich is a cool feature 😁

I love scrabble. This isn’t it worth playing unless you want to watch an advert (30secs) for each game you play. You cannot use any of your rewards unless you watch an advert. You cannot claim a reward without watching an advert. You cannot get out of the advert unless you come out of the app. Then you get plagued with them trying to get you to download new games. The most annoying app I have ever downloaded. It’s gone. Bye.

Good games……but

It’s totally overloaded with ads!!! By far the most ad intrusive app l’ve ever used. Your subjected to an advert after every turn….literally, every single turn! And if you pay 99p for no adds for 24 hours you then have to activate the damned thing. It doesn’t get automatically applied. If your new to the game and don’t know where to activate it, then your subjected to ‘even’ more ads until you do! They have to be making an absolute mint through their advertising income.

Get rid of the eBay ad

There is no way to click out of the eBay ad on an iPad - the ONLY WAY to get rid of it is to turn the iPad off and on again - the eBay ad comes up after EVERY SINGLE GO - get rid of it, or add a button to enable clicking out or closing it - it is driving me crazy

Easy to improve but won’t

This is more like 3 stars but I’ve given 1 star seeing that the same feedback I have is already here for years with no improvements.

The game could be great, and I’d probably pay for things in time too, but the ads are far too invasive to the app and many of them glitch and don’t allow them to be removed (have to close the app and restart). The game experience itself is strange too. There’s long multi-stage processes to open chests and gifts which take forever and serve no purpose. Notifications are broken - I get notifications for things that can’t be removed or changed so I have to turn these off. Easy fix, make notifications for game play only - that is the main reason a player would turn on notifications so no reason for it to be for anything else like chests or other event things.

Keep it pure and simple

Scrabble is a great game and doesn’t need all the stupid add ons. However the worst thing is all the ads for mind numbing games that no one with a brain would want to play. Distinctly average

Fun game but too many dodgy words accepted. Reward system is not appealing - lots of silly cards that have no apparent purpose and they make you take ages over getting them. Worst thing is that the ads they permit interfere with your music - don’t care about ads but the ones that interfere with your music or override your volume settings should be rejected. Not massively fussed about having this app.

I don’t mind most of the adverts , but the e bay one is so annoying . It just advertises the motor bike clothes every time but doesn’t remove itself at all . It is definitely the worse advertisement on the scrabble game and it’s really getting to be a pain and putting me off playing . I finish up closing my games down , and I have to shut down my device after nearly every word played , before I can carry on playing . It’s the only complaint I have as I enjoy playing against lots of opponents at once .

What a con!

Their store has a tile which says it’s 99p to turn off the extremely annoying adverts, but what it doesn’t tell you is that it only turns them off for a day! You don’t find this out until you’ve paid. The game has so many different ways to nag you into buying things it doesn’t leave much time for actually playing. They can keep my 99p & I’ll delete it.

I used to enjoy playing this game, but just recently a very annoying eBay advert pops up frequently, and there is no way of closing it down without restarting my iPad each time. It is so frustrating that unfortunately I will have to delete the app.

Bots bots bots

The game is full of bots, lack core scrabble simplicity and bloated with visuals, ads and slow animations so you should wait until do any moves. Even outside of the game a lot of gamemode pop ups. I think other game modes are cool but all the rewards etc etc makes it very slow at the age of TikTok and IG Reels where the dopamine level of brain is in shambles and requires fast paced UI!

Keeps freezing and crashing

This is the worst app I have ever encountered for freezing and crashing. As other players have said they also keep deleting scores, rewards etc. I would never pay for gems etc. but for people that do then deleting them would constitute theft! All I want to do is play Scrabble, but they keep adding more stupid gimmicks such as tiles and cards, and the more they add the worse the app gets. Stop the gimmicks and prioritise the reliability of the app. UPDATE: I have reported the above issues on here, also to customer service on the app and via the survey they sent and still it constantly freezes and crashes (it’s definitely not a problem with my device as other games work perfectly). Clearly they only want the advertisement income and are not interested in customer satisfaction.

FURTHER UPDATE: Despite reporting the issue of disappearing gems and rewards on numerous occasions over many months it still keeps happening. The reporting function seems to be a bot and I guess nobody actually reads the fault reports so they never get actioned.

Keep it simple

I think the developers have forgotten this is not a child’s game, we don’t want stupid cards we are not 5 years old. If you must set the game up like we are kids then please give us an opt out to play a straight game with just gems and tickets to earn. I don’t want the cards so they are collecting in my inbox, I wonder how much it can take 😂😂 The ads are becoming intolerable after every move it takes so long to play thru the active games that I’ve had to reduce the number of games I play. And reduces my enjoyment 😞 The ads are getting very unsavoury and some are blatantly a scam but can’t report them anywhere. The Google ads are also covering screen content over the the top of the screen in either portrait or landscape. The game screen needs to shrink down if the ad is to be displayed without covering content. The red message dot is showing where there is no ongoing conversation, and is very slow to appear when there is a message. Chat messages keep going missing and I’m only chatting about the weather !!! I could go on…. DEVELOPERS PLEASE TAKE NOTE ,,MOST OF YOUR USERS ARE OVER 25 . ALSO ,,WHERE HAS THE LEADERBOARD GONE IN THIS LATEST VERSION????

I love playing scrabble and this is a great app, however there is an irritating ‘long’ add after every move if you want it for free and the monthly/weekly fee is daylight robbery. The ‘level up’ just never seems to go away, I had to turn my phone completely off the other day just to get the game back. Plus there is no competition they seem to have all rights; which is also bad. Why can’t they charge a one off fee instead of an extortionate monthly fee just to play a game. I realise they have to make money but if they charged a lifetime one off fee they would most probably get millions more playing it and paying the fee. It’s greed making people pay monthly. Only 1 star because of the adds, the all the annoying level ups.

I love OG Scrabble but this app is terrible

Like other reviewers have said, the developers have taken a brilliant game and made it terrible with all the ads, gems, chests, “prizes”, videos etc. I just had to click “no thanks” 4 consecutive times, to a page which was offering me prizes in exchange for watching a video. It might have been more than 4, and there were ads on top of this too. It makes it very boring having to waste your time on these things. You can’t even buy an ad free version, like other iOs games offer. Instead you can subscribe £5 a month to play the game without ads, which works out to £60 a year, not worth it. Even then you would still have all the terrible add ons like prizes, gems etc which nobody here seems to want. They should simplify and go back to the old EA game which many of us loved and happily paid for back in the day. There are many other word games on iOS you can play which are less irritating. I hope the developers take our criticisms on board and work to make this more enjoyable, reverting it towards the original format.

Could be good

Pros: I love scrabble and enjoy playing with random people online. You can earn different tiles. Other mini games.

Cons: There are some creepy men on here but I guess they’re everywhere online. Very busy and colourful, makes it quite confusing to use. Lots of ads. A lot of the tiles you can win are not well designed for scrabble. It is difficult to read the letters you have. Too many tabs, needs a full redesign. Sometimes you can watch an ad to earn a prize but the prize never loads and it’s gone. You can favourite players but I have no idea where to find them. Players nudge you if you’ve taken longer than 24hrs to have your go. Rather annoying. Shouldn’t be allowed to cheat by watching ads (gives you the best word and where to put it). Having to open up prizes one by one is tedious and takes a long time, I often don’t open prizes because of this.

Such bad timing!

Edit: you actually did it! You removed the original Scrabble game today 6/6/20!!! Are you completely mad? Why take away a truly excellent game and replace it with shambolic Go? I tried it and hated it and have no intention of trying it again. More recent reviews are almost universally negative. So it’s Scrabble Go Away for me. So sad...... Original review: I must strongly complain of the appalling timing of your decision to remove the original Scrabble game in June 2020. This game is widely enjoyed, but particularly by the older generation, many of whom are now completely isolated either by age or because they fall into the “highly vulnerable “ group because of Covid-19. I know of a number for whom the original scrabble game now forms an important part of their day. Like myself some have tried the new game and quite frankly hate it! It appears to be marketed for children, lacking the sophistication of the original game. I know most won’t make the change in June and instead will lose an important aspect of their life. Scrabble keeps their brains active and diverts there thoughts from worries about the virus and what the future holds. Therefore I STRONGLY urge you to reconsider withdrawing the original Scrabble game at this incredibly worrying and unsettled time.

Very annoying!

I have played this game for years and until recently was more pleasure than annoyance. I was never a great fan of all the gimmicks that they have added in to the basic game but that doesn’t matter. Over time the adverts have become longer and more aggressive and ended up getting so bad that they rendered the game unplayable. A banner across the top of my screen would not go away and effectively removed the ability to see scores, to close one game and open another, or to access settings or chat. I had to close the app, double click the home screen and remove it before reopening it and hopefully beating the ads. This has forced me to abandon the games and friends that I have made through this app. I see no other explanation for this than an attempt at shameless extortion to try and force me to pay a monthly subscription to remove the advertising. The game itself is sometimes irritating as I have often had good words in the Oxford Dictionary that it won’t allow because of their inferior dictionary. Some words it does allow are highly dubious and would never be allowed under the original rules.

Rubbish

This is an absolute load of rubbish as far as I’m concerned. I downloaded it some time ago, had a good look at it, hated it and deleted it. I recently read that Scopely had listened to those who want to play proper, traditional Scrabble, so I downloaded it again. Well they haven’t listened, it’s still rubbish so I’ve deleted it again. What’s the matter with you at Scpoely, I really hope you’ll read this and reply. The traditional EA game was just right. So you take over, jazz it up as if this rubbish is what we’re all supposed to want nowadays, and you’ve totally ruined it for everyone who loves a good, straightforward game of Scrabble. What a cruel thing to do to people during the pandemic too. I don’t think you have any idea how much this means to traditional Scrabble players and what a gap you’ve left in their lives. Do you actually care? You seem so superficial, you must be to have developed this nonsense. I can’t tell you how disappointed I am. I would give negative stars if I could.

Scrabble go

I love playing word games and I added this to my collection. It’s probably the most glitchy and annoying app I’ve ever owned. The usual negatives are there, many non human players, complicated home page, too many choices of games to get involved with. No chat from ‘human’ players. The amount of times I’ve asked my opponent if they’re real people without a response. The load times and freezing mid game is irritating. BUT the thing that ruins this app is the continuous ads. Between EVERY move. There is inevitably no consistency in play. There’s no choice to make a one off payment to purchase the app add free, you have to subscribe and pay monthly. That’s a rip off. I’ll still continue to play as I enjoy the concept but ww friends is much slicker and ad free (although it’s regularly mistaken for a dating site). Shame because there’s potential for 5 stars.

Not Scrabble...

Even with the so called improvements: what a mess. I just want to play a straight forward game of scrabble, with either friends or random players. The interface is messy and full of stuff I'm not interested in. I don't want the constant prompts for rewards, add ons, crystals. And the way it tells you word is correct as you lay the tiles is abysmal. If there are users who want this, all fine and good; let them have it, but can you make a classic version for those who don't? I'm happy to pay for a classic game if that's what it takes, I mean I payed for the previous version. Maybe time to look for an alternative, because this make my head explode 🤯 Now in April 2022. You've killed it for me. Absolutely atrocious. The developers (?) should be ashamed of themselves. Crash after crash. Fails to load. Forced constant power ups, diamonds and other unnecessary garbage. Try to play a "traditional game" 🙆🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️ ...and to finish it off it's full of 'bots 🤖 which aren't obvious. I would give it 0, but can't. Off to find an alternative. Scrabble with inappropriate ads

Yes this is scrabble. Be prepared to put up with myriad ads unless you’re willing to pay £4.99 a month. However today a titillating little app came on. Can’t remember its name but seems you can move a screen over a clothed girl’s body to reveal what’s underneath. I accept that there is far worse on the internet but I do not need this while playing a word game. Nor do any children playing. Take the ad off. Update as it appears I didn’t send the above review. Gave up playing for a while because of the ads. Now trying again only to find some ads are either a black screen with ghastly music playing and there’s no way to get out of it or you can’t actually get off the idiotic ad screen because you end up in an endless loop. Further update. Now the Adventures game is locked. I’m stuck on level 49 and the game won’t even start. Update March 2022. The game is now not playing the correct rules ffs. It should give the opponent’s unused letter points to the person who uses all their tiles first regardless of whether they’ve won or not. But no, it now gives any unused letter points to whichever player has the most points. This ultra annoying error means the wrong person can win. Put it right scrabble

Very annoying!

Not the worst thing I’ve ever played but there’s some REALLY annoying things which put me off playing. Namely - why make people go to their inbox and individually accept every reward earned?! Just add the rewards automatically! It makes no sense whatsoever, I don’t see any benefit to either players or the developers for making people do this. It’s so annoying and takes forever, tapping and tapping on rewards to open them then having to tap again on a review of what you’ve just seen… AAGGHHHH just stop, it’s unnecessary and frustrating!

Also there are WAY too many bot “players” it’s surely not necessary is there’s supposedly so many actual real life people playing this game all over the world. It’s really off putting and very obvious, it makes the game feel very boring and almost monotonous. It’s lead me to ignore any requests from other players because they’re usually bots. Finally why do I need to see a chat bubble just to tell me how many times I’ve won/lost against a player? I don’t care, put that info elsewhere or leave it in the chat but we don’t need that new message icon telling us there’s a new stat in the chat (usually it’s a false alarm too fyi). If we were playing more real people then maybe I’d care about those stats but all I get is bots… such simple things overlooked it seems the developers must not play the game themselves or surely they’d get as annoyed by these dumb things as everyone else. Pull your finger out Scopley!

Buggy, insulting and addictive all the same

Apart from the fact that this constantly freezes or quits on my brand new iPhone, it is an insult to scrabble players. There is no way I would actually pay for this Las Vegas version of what is historically a classy game. First of all £5.99 a month is a total rip-off especially as it crashes and over-heats my phone. Secondly what is it with all these chests and gawky bells or whatever. Thirdly the ads I’m confronted with are quite frankly insulting. Worse is the vile music. They are totally inappropriate for this game. Gladiators, warriors, violence, poor girls waiting to be rescued and stupid puerile games with the age range of 3-5. However as I am more or less restricted from leading a normal life, I am addicted to the game part. So I put the phone on silent, thankfully discovered the classic mode and shut my eyes to the appalling ads while waiting for the classical screen to re-appear. I use the 30 seconds or so to achieve something more useful such as cleaning the windows. Update: I have now deleted this app as since November 2021 it stopped accrediting points and wins so what is the point? All my contestants had/have the same problem and I think the developer has had enough time to address this.

Bring back the old App!!

I love scrabble. I have used the app to play against my mum (300 miles away) in lockdown but it is dreadful. The very first version was great. You just played against an opponent or 3 computers. Simple graphics. No ads. This latest version is awful. Everytime you play a word there is an ad. They change the tiles repeatedly as if this is the main purpose of scrabble. You’ll be in the middle of something and suddenly a pop up appears ‘Geoff wants to play’. I don’t want to play with Geoff. I would have no problem paying to get rid of all the stupid ads and pop ups but there is no option to do that. And I have over 600 coins but have no idea what the point of them is. And I actually don’t care. I just want to play scrabble with my mum. Please, please provide a cut down version where you can play against an expert computer or other players if you want and get rid of all the other rubbish. I will gladly pay for the app just so I can actually play a game with my mum. The very first version was the best. No idea why you changed it.

This version is awful!!

Some years ago I paid hard earned money for the scrabble app - it was simple, nicely designed, classic scrabble, with a chat function, perfect!

Now I find that app gone and is replaced by this free version, with adverts and so many side games it’s difficult to see the actual game of scrabble. First you have to get past the wall of login which practically forces you to use Facebook, then you have to figure out which of the many flashing, jumping things is a game of scrabble. I don’t know about anyone else but with all this going on my phone is hot and sluggish, struggling to cope with the animated host and the ads and pop ups.

On the old app I used to enjoy playing a scrabble game and having a chat with my mum, it was a way of keeping in touch for us. Now she can’t even figure out how to join a game I’ve started.

And to cap it all, for some reason now it has simply stopped working, the active games I have going are not accessible, I click them and nothing.

Take the advice of the title - GO - go find a better word game because, while I have always been a loyal scrabble player, this is literally not working!

Great game if you like adverts…

I really liked this game (advert) to begin with (advert). It has classic Scrabble that (advert) you can play against (advert) online users and (advert) friends or AI opponents (advert). It also has other (advert) scrabble based word games (advert) and various competitions (advert) in which you can (advert) win exclusive content such as (advert) frames for your avatar (advert) or themed tiles (advert).

When choosing AI (advert) opponents (as with real life ones) you get to see their average word score so you can tell if you’re evenly matched (advert). However, several times now I’ve played an opponent with (advert) an average score that’s a point or two lower than mine and (advert) they’ve pulled out two seven-letter words and reaching a score of over 200 in the first 5 turns. I believe (advert) that this is a deliberate attempt to prevent players from (advert) winning the exclusive content.

Also there are (advert) loads of adverts (advert). You can pay to disable (advert) them for a period (advert) of time but not (advert) permanently.

What have you done? You’ve taken one of the best games out there & absolutely destroyed it with adverts!!!!! Why sell your sole like that? This game is amazing when you can actually play it but as a new advert pops up every single time you take a turn, it’s become one huge let down & frustration, that you play it for less time now, you’ve literally taken the fun away!

I played this game a lot during lock down & loved it, you were always given the choice to watch an add for extra loot but now there’s no choice & they pop up during games constantly, they offered me to watch an add to have 30 minutes add free but then bombarded me with their own in house pop ups, c’mon scrabble, sort yourself out!!!

If you don’t mind adds every 15 seconds then I’m sure you will love this game, great concepts & ideas, it’s a decent game……WITHOUT THE ADDS!

Awful

This app is just awful. I loved the ld EA version, which I had gladly paid for. I had a handful of regular playing partners and we were perfectly happy for things to continue as they were. Then along came this ‘improved version’ which is just awful. I am down to one regular playing partner - we both left it alone for a while but found we missed the little competition we had - so we have re-started. I have turned off my notifications because the blinking thing wouldn’t leave me alone, telling me about gems, tiles, treasure chests, tournaments, tens or world-wide challengers who I am not interested in playing with but they are thrust on me anyway - so I can’t just got a notification when it’s my turn in the match I do want to play. Then when I turn it on to see if it’s my turn I have to negotiate a whole load of pop ups telling me about ridiculous stuff I don’t need or want, such as ‘treasure’ and ‘prizes’ - It’s just awful awful awful. Bring back the old version, which I have already paid for but the way!!! I want it back.

Oh the pain you have to suffer to enjoy a great game

April 2021. A further update. I gave up, there are too many bugs, infuriating adverts, ‘prizes’ not delivered.

This an update. The game has been updated and I cannot get it to load. It freezes my iPad and despite rebooting 3 times it still freezes. So, despite an odd commercial policy, infuriating adverts after every go, the game has stopped functioning - time to delete I think. This is a shame because it has some good elements I am enjoying the game a lot but not the mindless add ons and so called ‘prizes’. I would pay to be rid of the but the monthly fee is far too high(£4.49). Surely the developer would get more purchases with a realistic subscription and/or offer some of the subscription benefits at a lower price. For example I would pay for the ability to see what words I could have got, this would help my game, but I do not have any interest in yet more gems or card collections or different coloured tiles.

Step right up!

Firstly – This app is annoying and will drive you up the wall if you are a Scrabble player. Be prepared for a lot of unavoidable childish “prizes”. The game looks more like a fruit machine than Scrabble, which I think is probably the point of the design. Secondly – I believe that most of the players are either bots, or staff employed to let you win, to keep you coming back for more, so that you watch the ads in between turns and they get the ad revenue. There are many players with those fake profile pictures you can generate. They score 8’s and 11’s. They lead you onto triple word tiles. None of them have ever beaten me, but they always want to play again and seem to be available to play 24 hours a day. I have just finished a win streak of 65 games. So the app will be deleted now because I do not want to be used in this way. It is a shame because Scrabble as a game is enough to keep people coming back. Developers– I know you won’t change it because this app is bringing in ad revenue, but here is your user feedback: this app is terrible and I hated the experience I had to endure in order to play my favourite game - Scrabble.

Scrabble Go.

App chews battery like there’s no tomorrow... made worse by the amount of ads we have to sit through before we can continue with pretty much everything!...

Would prefer if the game had the ability to prevent random strangers from challenging or seeing your details, for those who simply want to play against friends & family in a safe environment, or have the choice to play against strangers IF they so wish! Some I play against have already removed the game due to the huge amount of ads getting in the way of game play or ability to enjoy the other games, besides scrabble.

Absolutely disgusted by the fact I keep being shown a “Hunting” game called Hunting Clash showing a gun aimed at wolves and other animals! - Kids play Scrabble Go too, and I know plenty of parents who would never want their child to grow up thinking it’s ok to go out shooting endangered animals! And you have to sit through the whole ad before you can proceed. We’re meant to be looking after wildlife not encouraging people to kill it over a game of scrabble!

Too many ads and extra fluff

Update: the excessive ads are really ruining the gameplay. I’ll be finishing the games I have in progress, then I will be removing this app from my phone. It’s a shame that the official Scrabble app is STILL the worst option for playing scrabble. If you just want to play scrabble, and you don’t want to be bombardment with ads or extra faff, play WordFeud instead. Even Words With Friends is a better choice than this.

This app is better than the old Scrabble app that was barely playable. Unfortunately this app adds so much extra fluff on top of the basic premise of playing Scrabble online... collecting various trinkets in order to unlock tile styles gets old fast, and the various leagues and tournament modes offer very little in terms of actual rewards.

The biggest problem with this app is the number of ads. If you’ve got several games going you need to sit through an ad after every play you make. Takes all the fun out of taking a few minutes to get caught up in your games. You can buy your way out of ads if you are willing to pay £4.99 a month, but a game like this isn’t worth such a subscription amount, especially considering a subscription to Apple Arcade gets you access to many, many games for just a few quid more.

If you want to just play Scrabble and don’t care about all the extra faff that bloats this app, play WordFeud instead. The attempts to monetize this game are so overbearing that it makes me want to stop playing.

Ads and micro transactions.

It’s an ok game. Scrabble is scrabble. Playing people or playing bots it’s helps to pass the time what really helps to pass the time however is the ads, the non stop stream of ads either for other games or for in game micro transactions after every turn, literally no matter which of the games modes you play some good and some terrible you are bombarded with ads. I get that developers need ad revenue to pay the bills and as much as I hate them throughout gaming micro transactions are now just part of how most games, especially mobile games, work the incessant bombardment will end up costing you in the long run. Ads used to be every three or four turns, frequent but not significantly game interrupting, the turn/ad/turn/ad sequence has turned me away and I guarantee I won’t be the only one. I’ll do the decent things and finish my games so no one else is impacted but after that, sorry scopely your greed got the better of you.

Scrabble Go is highly addictive. I was always taught to play with an English dictionary so I was bemused when people were entering words like DZO which apparently is a Tibetan cow. I have played it so much that i have started to look for the algorithms that give you lots of diamonds at the beginning of the leagues and next to nothing at the end of the week. It also seems to benefit me greatly if I pay a couple of quid every now and then-the rewards flow like wine. All in all, it’s a great game that I have now had to remove myself from a little bit because too often I was playing at 3 in the morning. I would 100% recommend, however I think it is a bit of a crime that you can’t play 3-4 player. I would happily pay a few quid for a premium version that offered this. As expected with any app, from time to time it glitches and rewards you win don’t actually appear which is especially frustrating if you are in dire need but in most cases a simple closure of the app resolves crashes. PLEASE update to allow more players

ScrabbleGo is ghastly, zero stars

Utterly reprehensible, so I’m now using Word Master, it’s so well designed.

This is a travesty of the classic straightforward worldwide game of Scrabble. You have also trashed the many features of the Scrabble App from EA games. Why all the adverts and glitzy invites at every stage of the game to connect with friends. I just want a simple game against the computer, except the computer always plays like a 5 year old. If the computer had access to a vast dictionary then why can’t it play with various skill levels. The list of 2 letter words has gone, the official rules are not available now, when you place your letters you should only be told at the end of your play if valid words have been used, not every time you place a tile. I don’t want to wade through winning pointless chests and gems and why can’t I play it offline.

You’ve ruined a perfectly good Scrabble game app, it’s designed for kids. Even the original board game is better. I’ll never pay anything for this, please bring back the features of the EA Scrabble App

Buried deep is a Scrabble Classic version, but it’s still no improvement; how can you relax when you’re plagued by adverts and when the computer you play against has no intelligence. I hope all proper fans of scrabble avoid this app.

Abomination of classic game! 0 stars!

This is just shocking! I accept people don’t like change, and moving from the EA Srabble to Scrabble Go would have always attracted a degree of criticism but this really takes the biscuit! I struggle to find the words to describe how truly awful this is....is this a wind up? Are the developers having a laugh at our expense? Seriously do they think people will actually like this version? Deluded! I played the old EA scrabble daily , usually having 10-15 games running at any one time, but I doubt I’ll ever play this again, which is really quite sad. The opponents have the IQ of a two year old and never seem to sleep of ever leave the game...but they are real people of course! There is just no challenge or competitive edge to playing against someone averaging 10 points a go, utterly pointless! I’d rather watch paint dry. If anyone wants to start a campaign to bring back the previous version count me in. As for Scrabble Go? Count me out! Scrabble GONE!

DEVELOPER NOT LISTENING

I have just discovered that my existing EA SCRABBLE App, which I gladly paid for many years ago and have been enjoying ever since, has been discontinued. I will not be able to complete the 15 games I had in progress. The game was excellent, and kept gameplay simple; following the original Hasbro design. The game connected me with fellow scrabble players around the world and gave me hours of pleasure.

I have read all of the reviews above for the new Go and I must agree with the vast majority and say this game is absurdly frustrating. I can only imagine that in its current format it will become a complete flop and I’m astounded that Scopely are trying to make a money making App from Scrabble.

But either way it’s obvious that Scopely are not listening to the many Scrabble fans who have asked and begged for the return of the old game. They just keep trotting out the same response that it’s a new App, there is an option to play the classic game, etc.

We want the old game back not this juvenile twaddle you’ve replaced it with. We don’t want Jems, chests, prizes, congratulations for scoring more than 30 pts, side games, adverts, league tables, fancy tiles, AI opponents, stupid sounds and jingles. In short this is abhorrent for the people who truly enjoyed the EA version and has taken away a truly enjoyable social pastime for many people.

Glitchy and could be better

Overall great game. Really addicted to it. I’d say the most annoying thing about this game is the incessant advertising and £4.99/month subscription to get rid of them.

Glitches:

Recently I was unable to open a crate reward. For example, in duels, I earned a crate and all I got was the spinning square - no reward. This is annoying and it is unclear if I got the rewards or not. Another time, in my inbox, I had a few crates to open and I couldn’t open any. Even after clicking on them they remained in my inbox and I couldn’t get rid of them.

Another glitch, occasionally I can still see a tile from my rack in front of the “more games” banner which pops up after you play. No biggie but should be fixed.

Suggestions:

Having cool tiles is great. But when you play them they magically turn into normal tiles. I think it would be cooler if they remained as the special tiles on the board like in words with friends.

Lower the subscription price. £4.99/month is ridiculous. It boosts your scrabble score which seems unfair and makes the game more “pay to win” than it already is.

Please add more frames as well as tiles!

Good things:

I’m happy that the boosts (“cheats”) have been changed so you cant just use them over and over. I’m also happy that their is a classic option for when you don’t want to overwhelmed.

It would be a 5 star, but it’s bugging me now

I love scrabble, but with no one to play with during lockdown, I decided to download the app. I really enjoy it...love all of the bells and whistles that seem to bug others, but I like all of the tiles you can collect and the tournaments are fun, etc.

HOWEVER...maybe it’s my iPad, or maybe I’m just being dumb, it keeps dropping out/off and I have to restart it. Annoying in itself, but even more so when I have just used gems to start a tournament game, or just as I open a chest to collect rewards! I have wasted 24 gems in the last 10 mins, and these are ones I paid for. I’ve never bought in app thingmy bobs in other apps, but as I said, I love all the bells and whistles and was willing to pay. But now I’m just cross!

Maybe advice can be offered on how to make this stop, nothing on scopely customer support pages to advise, so sadly have to give it 3 rather than 5 stars. Sorry.

Please keep working to improve this game!

It has potential, but so many features that make it a frustrating experience. Things like: not being able to stop strangers requesting games with you (even after hiding yourself from searches and being shown as online), not being able to easily find games or interact with the app without constant ads and promos. The option to play original scrabble is good and less frustrating but the non traditional version could also be made more appealing with slightly less frequent ads and the option to choose what kind of rewards or type of chests you want if you choose to join in tournaments etc. At the moment it’s like being bombarded with an overwhelming amount of stuff that you don’t really understand or want, and you feel as though you spend more time clicking out of tournament promos, adverts, stranger game requests and pushes to enable notifications than you do actually playing and enjoying the game of scrabble. I am trying to persevere with it but these kind of issues make it a high effort interaction each time and am slowly losing interest in it...I’m sure I won’t be alone there!

Another Scopely trashing of a loved game

Update: Recent changes have done nothing to address the single player mode. The ability level of the AI player is MORONIC. And after every play you’re blitzed with moronic power ups or offers to play different games. Surely if you had a good engaging game your customer/player wouldn’t want to change. All of which obscures your tiles and challenges your focus on THE GAME which you’re trying to play. Still 1 star.

Just like Yahtzee Scopely have come along and turned a quiet thoughtful game into a jarring screaming mess of social chaos. The levels, bonuses, play limits, adverts, illusory friends are IMHO godawful. I just wanted to play against a computer opponent that plays quickly, well and accepts success and failure without comment, and requires zero commitment from me and no penalty for quitting when I feel like it. And if want to play twenty games at 3am then I can without paying for crystals or power-ups to keep playing. This new blizzard of nudges and mind hacks presented by Scopely is the antithesis of a quiet relaxing thoughtful game. I deleted it and will continue with the old app (that I paid for) until they decide to deactivate it.

Infantile

UPDATED REVIEW

This version of Scrabble remains infuriating.

The developers keep updating it and saying that each update is “major”. In fact there is no discernible change, let alone any improvement.

As an example: many of the players you challenge don’t play for several days, if at all, yet the only way you can get rid of them is to resign the game. In the proper Scrabble app, which is sadly about to be discontinued, you can force forfeit such an opponent after two days.

Apart from that, the whole presentation is far too complex and fussy and the awful Candy Crush style graphics are as bad as ever.

I just wish the developer would listen to these and the many other comments made in reviews here and just give us a simple effective replacement for the existing Scrabble app.

This version of Scrabble is awful.

Even played in so called “Classic” mode you still have the infantile graphics and games against players who are either obvious bots or who don’t play for days and who you can’t force forfeit.

Please just give us back a version that does what the old version did:

App keeps quitting

I like this app and it makes a change from the usual serious Scrabble however I can’t use it for more than a few turns before it quits. I play some of the tournaments so use some of the reward stars or a ticket to enter and find the app quits before I even get to play the game and the app takes the entry “fee” it is forfeited never to be seen again! I believe in paying a subscription if I enjoy using an app, but this app is so unreliable it is really not stable enough to warrant paying for it at the moment. The duels game is especially frustrating, I can never progress very far because of all the quits. And why do you put bots in as if they are real players? If I wanted to play against a computer I would do so, no one can be fooled into thinking a bot is a real person, they just don’t play realistically. Come n developers there is some real work needed to sort this out, at least make it stable.

Kindergarten stuff

Terrible implementation of scrabble. Its one redeeming feature is that it is handy to have feedback of the score and validity of a word as you place the tiles. Its drawbacks however are too many. The game keeps crashing: maybe I have played it twenty times or so and at some point it has crashed at least once each game. The simple concept of the previous version has been overridden by lots of childish rewards and levels. The game is obsessed with sharing on social media. I just want to play scrabble against the computer. There is no way I have found of changing the level at which the computer opponent plays so I almost inevitably win unlike the old version where playing at Advanced was a genuine challenge. I am uninstalling this and reverting to the old version for as long as possible. If that app is withdrawn I might just get a handheld dedicated scrabble game rather than put up with this. Please revamp this app, allow people who just want a simple scrabble game to have that and switch off or better still not have to implement the other stuff or just don’t withdraw the old version.

Too crowded

Love the concept don’t get me wrong, but the execution is terrible. Very bubbly and cartoony menu design, far to over crowded, it’s like they tried to ram every possible money making feature on each and every page.. takes away from the simplicity and relaxing nature of playing scrabble.

Oh and the ads... I seem to be getting ads after each turn against my partner, only way to turn them off is to pay a monthly subscription, no way I am doing that, as that is exactly what you want us to do. Annoy us with ads to force us to pay you to have an ad free experience, you should be thinking about the consumers experience over making every penny of profit. Disgusting.

Notifications... either on or off... now this is a big one for me and I would imagine it is for a lot of other people two... I currently have a 5 badge icon on the app and have no idea how to remove it... on top of that, I have notifications turned on to know when my opponent has played their turn BUT because I do have them on I get spammed throughout the day with stupid notifications again trying to get money out of you.

I would love for a games company to actually consider the consumers experience first and put the money making efforts last, but we live in a world full of businesses that only care about money. I would have been happy to pay for the game itself out right, or pay to get a pro version that allows me to be ad free, but to try and force money making strategies on the consumers is a joke.

More like Scrabble GONE

Scrabble, in its pure form, is for me one of the true classic games. It’s not quite as nuanced as chess but it does evoke the same quiet contemplation that comes with a deceptively simple yet endlessly replayable concept. It doesn’t need any bells or whistles, and it doesn’t need to be glamourised or modernised. It is what it is and that’s more than enough.

Scrabble Go, regrettably, is a hallucinogenic nightmare bulldozing through a tranquil field for absolutely no reason (unless you count capitalist greed, which I certainly don’t). The countless perplexing and unnecessary add-ons are one thing, but the user interface of the app is another entirely. To put it simply, it’s like watching the abstract warp sequence from the third act of 2001: A Space Odyssey whilst enduring a blinding migraine. It’s a complete mess. Exploring this thing is like hacking a machete through the endless thicket of a technicolour swamp. I also don’t appreciate being notified 5 times a day about chests or tiles or challenges just because I have to keep notifications on to see when my dad has played his next move. Seriously, leave me alone.

I’m glad I kept the old Scrabble app on my phone to play against the computer but seeing as I’m indefinitely stuck indoors on lockdown it would be nice to challenge the family and friends I miss so much to a game without the sensory assault and shameless butchery of tradition that comes with it.

Crashing

I haven’t played the previous game but enjoy this one apart from the reloading every couple of minutes

I load this game, play perhaps with two people, crash. Load again, play one person, watch an ad, crash. Load again, play two people, play a jewels game, crashes and lose my free game. This crashing goes on all the time. I lose several points and free games because of this. Very frustrating.

Is this a dating site? I get messages from men, not ladies, saying the usual hello, how are you, where are you from then the person asks if I am married, do I have children and do I work. After I reply and ask them the same questions I get the same answers from nearly all of them. They are widowed, lost a child, working abroad in some war torn country under cover and don’t have constant internet so they want my email address or hang out address, or whatever it’s called. When I refuse they end the game. I actually told one person that I was terminating the chat and game as it wasn’t a dating site. Is it necessary to have the facility to chat at all. Mind you if you are feeling a bit down, the compliments re my photo would put a smile on your face. I have now changed it to a photo of a tree and don’t get any chats at all.

Anyway, get rid of the message facility and fix the crashing and the game would be okay. I would also like to see settings where you can turn off the sound.

Terrible killing of a classic

I’m at an absolute loss to see that this game which has replaced the old app has completely killed off a classic. Whilst the game still has the original, it is confused by endless pop ups, gems, tile collections and so on. Why have the makers deliberately bypassed the older generation who just want a simple game of scrabble to play with friends or against the computer? The answer is easy - the selfish and greedy pursuit of money. I can no longer download the old app, which I paid good money for. Surely this is basic theft? I used the old app to reach out to my mother of 80 years old on a daily basis who lives hundreds of miles away. She simply cannot understand the endless pop ups and tournaments and has decided not to play anymore. We are devastated. Don’t be fooled by the developer responses on here. This is a plain case of producer sovereignty using the license monopoly they have to force consumers into a game they don’t want to play and to delete the original app that they paid good money for. Gutted.

Great game, but needs a dictionary word check feature and offline mode

Missing the ability to do word look ups with the keyboard as the previous game had to see if they are valid words without having to place them on the board to check. Could be activated from little dictionary flag in the top left in a game. This would also be a good spot to include the 2 letter word list again.

An Offline mode is the major missing feature the old app had, but I guess this goes against your business model of serving ads after each turn. Perhaps offer it as a feature if you purchase the subscription to offset this?

Also time it takes for shuffle animation to complete when shuffling tiles is a little slower than previously, could be shortened a tad. Other than this, a fine successor to the previous incarnation.

Absolutely Dreadful

This new version of Scrabble is terrible, you have taken a much loved game and ruined it entirely. I don’t want flashing lights and swirling animations, I have no idea what jewels are or why I should care, I JUST WANT TO PLAY SCRABBLE. You bombard me with requests from strangers to play games - I don’t want to play with strangers, I want to play with the people I choose, when I choose. You keep suggesting that my Facebook friends want to play against me but that is a lie - they are simply online. I suppose that you are also telling them I want to play games with them which is also untrue. Of course I understand why you are trying to maximise engagement, i.e. for your own profit, but it is irritating beyond belief, you make it impossible to ignore all the rubbish you have overlaid on this game. You have to provide a classic version of the Scrabble game similar to the EA app, or allow other developers to create an application that is in keeping with the original board game. I would be genuinely surprised if anybody even considers paying you a subscription for this awful game, more fool them

Just awful’

I’ve played the classic scrabble app for years and it’s superb. This abomination is just awful. The screen is smaller and full of distracting busyness, plus you are expected to have the attention span of a gnat and are compelled to collect gems and prizes when all you want to do is play scrabble with a friend. We will continue on classic scrabble until they stop allowing it then swap onto Words for Friends. I’m so disappointed and disgusted by this.

The developer replies to feedback saying you can still play Old scrabble in classic mode. NOT TRUE. The board is different, the screen is different, there is no teacher, exchange, dictionary, forfeit. This is a total MESS. We are in lockdown - I have 9 boards a day playing with a friend and my old scrabble app isn’t working. No way to delete and redownload so we can’t play. It’s unbelievably cruel and for absolutely no purpose. Scrabble Go will never be a good replacement for good old fashioned classic scrabble, which, incidentally, I’m happy to pay for.

Chat feature is invasive

I have to say that there is a real problem with men (in my case) messaging and not wanting to actually play scrabble. It feels more like a dating app at times, and when I don’t wish to chat (particularly to men twice my age) they end the game. Very frustrating and clearly shows their motives. This is a seedy side that I didn’t expect to encounter from a reputable game.

This means that I cannot recommend this app to any female friends or family, particularly those who are younger than me. It’s a real shame as it’s otherwise a great way to improve vocabulary.

I have since learnt that there is a block and report feature, but this isn’t entirely obvious, and as I am a grown women with internet safety sense, I would worry about younger adults/children as some of these men are rather predatory.

I can’t believe an innocent game of scrabble has turned into me having to block men, who don’t understand why I wouldn’t want to message, meet up or give them personal details about where I live. I feel like you have given a platform to oddballs and weirdos to be able to contact and harras women. This is not ok and means that I will no longer be using the app. I’ve literally had enough.

To add to the comments about the app itself, I find it gawdy, too bright and busy and this has also put me off. I much prefer the previous app for its simplicity. It’s like someone’s gone mad with the design.

If it’s not broke don’t fix it!

Scrabble is decades old and loved by millions, why do all this nonsense! Magic chests, pointless gems, cheats.

The biggest annoyance is that the game is rigged so that you have to buy gems to change letters. Gems allow you to change letters without missing a turn (in other words CHEAT) in order to make you buy gems you will continually be dealt awful letter combinations. If you do change letters properly without using gems and missing a go, you will be given equally awful letters back.

I have played for years and would average over 400 a game and normally get 2 bingos a game. 15games into this and I am averaging 300 and only have 1 bingo. Be prepared for continual awful letters every time you play, and if you swap out vowels or constants you will get the same back. Please just give us back normal scrabble rather than this stupid imitation of a game aimed solely at the snowflake generation who need instant gratification in the form of gems and treasure chests. Read the reviews from people like me who have played for years as appose to the teens who love it because its only incarnation of scrabble they have ever seen. PLEASE CAN THE DEVELOPERS READ AND TAKE HEED OF THE HUNDREDS OF AWFUL REVIEWS AND GIVE US A PROPER VERSION OF OUR GAME BACK!

Awful

I really can hardly believe that my lovely EA Scrabble app is going to go in June this year. This replacement is an abomination to anyone who seriously just enjoys a game of Scrabble with a friend. I loathe the colours, the jewels, the chests and all the silly games that are based on scrabble tiles but not Scrabble. You can buy things with your jewels? That is nothing to do with Scrabble. The ads are awful and I find I have to pay £4.99 a month to avoid them. What a joke! I paid £5.99 (I think) for my EA app years ago and that gave me no ads and the Teacher function which I hardly ever use but is nice if I want to do it. I do not need the internet to play it and can play against the computer in the car which I liked. I could go on and on and on but I think it is probably pointless. After all the developers think that people will pay £60 a year to use this app without ads and to belong to the Scrabble Club. What I feel sad about is that it is probably not possible for another developer to make a better app as Mattel probably won’t allow it. I feel so sad.

awful

this is like having to walk through a garish money grabbing casino just to get to what is known throughout the world as a peaceful board game which once you have bought it you just get to play. i am aghast. the developer seems to be responding to comments by saying this is still being developed so hopefully it will be rethought design wise. some of the things that are particularly annoying are: (1) finding existing games is not at all obvious when surely that should be front and centre (2) i know there is classic mode but seriously? this still allows things like a free tile swap without missing a go, or it did yesterday. that isn’t in the rules of scrabble so what’s classic about that? (3) no official comparative rating like the old app (4) why not just have standard computer opponents eg easy hard expert etc. nowhere to find these so i don’t know what i’m getting (5) how do i play this where there is no signal given it only works online? eg subway? the old app has this but i guess this would interfere with all the nonsense so that is clearly being prioritised over the basic game features (6) i don’t care about gems can’t i just switch them off - they aren’t in the scrabble set box i own. (7) scrabble is known as a 2 to 4 player game and the box contains four sets of racks for that reason and score cards to match. why develop a crazy candy crush nightmare and not bother to include that! hopefully the old game will stay online for a bit longer.

Great for keeping in touch. Dire interface and game rules

I downloaded this as a way to keep I touch with my mother and sister whilst self isolating due to Coronavirus. We’ve all enjoyed playing scrabble in the past. From that perspective only, and the ensuing hilarity in messenger from the poor quality of the game, has this been a success!

The issues:

1) Why can you only play scrabble against one friend at a time? We’re used to playing as a family (2 to 4 players)

2) The UK ‘dictionary’! Seriously what are they using? Not OED or even Cambridge. We are having great fun seeing what made up words it’s allowing. No idea where the definitions have come from ‘et’ = to Swallow something. Presumably they mean ‘eat’ or ‘ate’. There are also many non English words allowed. Ja means yes? I definitely ONLY have the English dictionary selected in settings

3) The app layout / game play. We just want to play scrabble with friends and family. It’s hard to find open / active games due to all the other rubbish going on that I really don’t care about. Have the stuff there for those that want it but the main feature should be the ability to play scrabble!

4) The rules. The game is allowing words which are defined as slang or proper nouns. These have never been allowed in a real game of scrabble. It should at least be possible to block these.

In short it’s pretty terrible but is an accidentally hilarious way to stay in touch at this time.

No chance to play

Unfortunately I cannot use this app at all. I am one of those who wants to simply play a game of Scrabble against the computer apponent and I'm not able to do so - why? Because you have to be online to use this app. With the EA version of the game it has been possible to play as much as I like, when I like; with this version of the game it's not even possible to load the app - let alone play it - offline. Much like others who have written a review of this version, I don't want bells and whistles, I just want to play the game of Scrabble, when I want to, and against the computer. I don't play online as there were too many times when the old game kicked me off due to the online players taking longer to play that I wanted and I lost due to losing connection to the servers. I simply want the classic Scrabble experience, where I can play offline and against a computer opponent. This is all I ask for. Can I not do this any more? I hope it will be possible to do so again. Why not ask EA if you can take on board their game and then make this version 'GO' a separate app entirely, then you can have simple Scrabble and Scrabble 'GO' can be there for those who want to use it in the way you have designed it. Sorry, but having to subscribe and pay and be online isn't what I want. Thank you.

Too Many Faults

If you don’t waste money purchasing gems I guess the game is ok. If you do spend money, more fool you. Too many faults which the creators don’t fix and if you bother to contact them, they do not respond. Latest issues with the duels games. With 2 wins to go to the ultimate prize you win by a league and move on to the next game to win the final chest. Actually no, because the game decides you didn’t win the last game and must wait 6 hours before playing again unless you want to pay 70 gems. This has happened several times. Then the screen will freeze while the timers counting down and by the time it unfreezes you’ve run out of time and your opponent wins. Oh and another 6 hour wait to play again. Or you play the first word and are waiting for your new letters to drop to creat the next word but it gives you back the letters you just played. Oh and the word has disappeared from the board but remains in your score. Fix the faults people or don't charge to buy the gems needed to win!!!
