Description

Use joints, bones and muscles to build creatures that are only limited by your imagination. Watch how the combination of neural networks and an evolutionary algorithm can enable your creatures to learn and improve at their given tasks all on their own.
The tasks include running, jumping, climbing and flying. Can you design the ultimate creature that is good at all of the tasks?
The latest update allows you to easily share your simulation saves and creature designs with your friends.
Note that this is more of a simulation than a game. There are no real objectives. But there is a lot to learn if you are interested in the basics of machine learning and neural networks. You can even look at the source code if you want.
There is also a Mac & PC version available for download and a browser version for you to try out on the main project website (keiwan.itch.io/evolution).

Brilliantly clever and educational but an issue:

I love this game, it’s a great way to lean AI machine learning, but when i create a new ‘creature’, sometimes when on the ‘running’ option, the max horizontal distance is jot recorded properly, for example my creature will easily hit 90 metres every iteration, but for some reason the horizontal distance from start’ stat is still stuck on 60 metres when it should be 90. Not sure what’s causing this, maybe that distance is calculated based on an average of all iterations??? But still, it should accurately show the max distance of the best performing iteration, not the average.

Extremely good, could have more features

I really enjoyed the game as you can make many creatures, but if there was a flying evolution or swimming it would be more interesting, please consider adding these features but otherwise a great game

Good game and suggestions

Very fun to watch your marvellous creations flail about and slowly learn how to walk.
One suggestion is that you could run the app in the background (unless it’s already a feature and I don’t know about it) so you don’t have to watch your creature evolve for hours at a time. Instead you can play another app or something while you wait for it to progress.

Good but laggy

Great game

This is a great game. I managed to create a being which could almost fly and travels up to 350m in 10 seconds. Better than most other tacky games which are advertised and on the front of the App Store. Actually gets you to think.

Evolution

Great game and the only reason I downloaded it is because I saw this great YouTuber named Blitz playing this game so I downloaded it but the game is 5 star but it is really hard so I give it a 4 star

Good but...

This game is a very addictive game and it always teaches me something new but I have tried almost everything in the game a so I think think that the game should have different features like a feature were you can make sea animals and sky animals this could make the game much more unpredictable adding excitement.

Very clever

I LOVE this app. Having recently undertaken a course in machine learning, including neural networks, I have some appreciation of what’s going on here. And it’s really clever. Fabulous to watch the creatures evolve and gradually get better at solving the task. Beautiful and slightly haunting.

Good game, but quite resource-heavy

The game is great, fun to experiment with, building your own creatures. Just be careful, as it can freeze your device. Very fun though, give it a try!

Really good

I first got this game on laptop and it said I could choose a price and you could say nothing and they said it was more of a donation so I could tell the developers are really nice 👍. And I incouraged a very big you tuber called baron to play it.

Great evolution simulator

This is beautiful. Lovely to watch. Would be great to see variation in bone lengths or joint position as the creature optimises itself.
