Cannot activate tickets

There seems to be a bug in the app which is preventing me from activating a ticket which is part of a previously purchased bundle. I cannot select a departure station.

Completely terrible experience as literally unable to activate a ticket which is one of the apps few features. 1/10.

New version is a step backwards

The new Dec 24 version is a big step backwards. Slower and twice as many clicks to activate a 4 ticket journey. It still needs an internet connection to validate each ticket of the 4 ticket packs which is a big issue when internet is not available. Shame.

New App is awful

The single most important thing that a ticket app needs to do is ensure that tickets purchased remain accessible. The new app has taken my money several types with different payment methods, yet tickets continue to disappear. I have no wish to be a Schwarzfahrer - please sort it out fast.

New update is a disaster

This app used to be super good..

It was:

- fast loading

- zero bugs

- didn’t have data format errors

- didn’t charge money and hide tickets

Now:

- app loads slowly

- buggy (some buttons don’t work or only appear/disappear when pages are loaded/re-loaded

- I paid for tickets and they don’t show up in my tickets tab.

This is my first ever Apple review. I had to let BVG know that its recent update is a disaster.

Please fix it, the app was 5-star before hand.

Unable to add payment details

I was using the previous version without problems but after this major update, I have lost my previous payment method . When I try to add my credit card, the page gets in loop and goes back to the blank entry page. I am currently unable to buy tickets, so the app is now useless.

Terrible payment flow

Terrible user experience. Bought a ticket but payment didn’t go through without me knowing which led to a 60€ fine. Really not a great look seeing tourists getting fines for silly mistakes or broke payment flows straight out of the airport.

Useless

After being prompted for a while to switch to the new version of the app I finally did and within minutes regretted it. My payment information is all up to date, I have removed and re added Apple Pay, my credit card. But can I buy a ticket with this new version of the app. No! Is there any information about why it’s not accepting payment. No. Just a large X. So I’m now travelling to the airport on a single fare I already had in my ticket wallet. But can I buy and extension to cover zone C. No! Useless. Hoping the controllers aren’t active this morning

Simply not working

Don’t waste your time trying to buy tickets online, the app won’t let you buy them anyway. It is very disappointing and risky, especially when you get into the transport and find yourself not being able to get the ticket, there is a high chance of getting a fine. Some stations don’t have ticket machines at all or they are cash only with coins. The support e-mail works Monday-Friday only, so no one answered me on weekends, although now is Tuesday and I still haven’t got any response back.

Unreliable

I’ve been using it for a few years and despite the updates and fixes there are always problems with it. Either ticket purchase doesn’t go through, unused tickets purchased in a batch of 4 mysteriously disappear or the station name cannot be found. Berlin ticket controllers don’t really care if you’re riding without a ticket because it’s impossible to get one, I’ve already got a fine once due to that. Changing to Jelbi app now, hopefully that one is better.

Excellent, fully featured app which helps you travel across Berlin. Since yesterday, however, it seems to have stopped working, it won’t allow any purchases (have been using ApplePay), despite reinstalling, changing payment method etc. Schade!

Clunky and doesn’t work properly

Nearly missed my train due to the app not working properly. Once selecting a ticket you end up in an endless cycle it seems, going through the very elegant transport modes processing screen, just for the transaction to fail. It’s always been bad, and especially if trying to use at BER, but today it’s just been so much worse.

Might as well not use it

It’s always important to know who a product is designed for because after several uses of this app, it is clear it’s not the traveller buying tickets. This app is designed to support and benefit the Kontrollers prowling the Berlin transportation system because after purchasing a ticket or validating an existing purchase via the app, it often takes several stations of travel for the validated ticket to download and appear on the app. When the ticket finally appears on screen, the timer begins, which doesn’t correspond with the time you pressed validate, in this case, several stations ago. So now a Kontroller has ample proof that you didn’t buy a ticket for your journey so you receive a fine. Might as well save yourself the costs of tickets as you’re getting fined with or without buying a ticket through this app.

horrendous

the app has a billion bug issues that are never fixed: you buy a 4 journey pass and want to activate it for a message to say ‘you’ve activated one in the last 2 minutes’. The ticket never shows up and then you have zero proof that you’ve paid to the inspectors. I’ve lived in berlin for over 4 months and every update never fixes this glitch and it’s definitely not my phone. Bit sus if you ask me….

If you’re visiting just buy a physical pass! :)

it takes nearly 2 minutes to activate a ticket! that is terrible user experience. means sometimes you miss a train because of this slow app. come on devs this is 2021 please improve your request and response times!!

Awful app and deleted review!

I wrote a review last week, and it was clearly deleted. It’s a shame, especially when you could really use this negative feedback to improve your product. Let’s see how long this one stays up for...

Complaints:

- service used to be ok, in recent months it has been SO glitchy! sometimes it won’t validate my ticket for many minutes (I’m talking 5+ mins, once it took 10!!) despite having good internet connection. This has caused me to miss several trains and buses.

- I always buy the 4 ticket option, and sometimes the app mistakenly registers some of the tickets as “already validated”, so they can’t be used! I wouldn’t even know how to go about getting a refund, and the BVG customer service is just awful. Terrible service for such an expensive transport system.

Misleading ticket type

How am I supposed to understand that I don't need to buy the ABC 2 hour ticket beforehand? I usually buy tickets from airports beforehand because I don't want to mess with this while tired after the flight. So I bought it before the flight but then realized it will expire in 2 hours and I won't be in Berlin by that time yet. Messaging about ticket working immediately doesn't give any hint it will expire soon to someone who isn't used to Berlin's transport. Misleading and disappointing.

Official ID required but no 2 min rule

Update: my thanks to the developer for the correction that the ticket is immediately valid and you do not have to wait two minutes before boarding. Unfortunately there are many reports of fines being issued based on this timer. There are still media reports online citing this supposed rule.

Otherwise, you are obliged to carry ID with you in the form of a passport or driving licence if you're a foreigner*. So that the ticket can not be transferred to someone else. It's more restrictive and burdensome than a paper ticket. You should not be required to have the risk of losing your passport by carrying it around with you all the time just to meet the arbitrary and pointless needs of the public transport system.

*correction: not only foreigners, but German citizens have a national ID card that most always carry.

Not reliable

Often takes me 4 failed attempts before ticket purchase works, so have missed many trains. One time it seemed to work, but when I opened the app to show my ticket it had disappeared and I was fined €60 by BVG.

I had purchased a ticket prior to travelling on this app - the stasi style ticket inspectors had asked to see my ticket - which didn’t load properly to their irate rage when prompted- if the app doesn’t work, you can’t expect travellers to safely use it. Please fix it

Apple Wallte option disappeared

I was able to use my ticket in apple wallet in october but as of november this option is gone.

The app also never saves berlinpass or kundenkartennummer. I always have to type it in every month.

Plain and simple to use. Couple this with google maps when planning your journey and it’s so easy to use. We had no problems at all navigating around Berlin. And you can use Apple Pay too.

It is so annoying to accept privacy policy and terms and conditions every time I buy s ticket. Why is that? I just don’t believe you change these every day.

Nice layout but...

The style (simplicity) of the app works well and is practical, but without having a journey planner (why?) it makes no sense to use when the BVG FahrInfo app does and tickets don’t sync between the two apps. Pity.

Excellent and easy to use

Pleasantly impressed with this app. Much easier to use than the previous BVG app and seems to understand well what users want, allowing you to access common tickets really easily. What took me many clicks on the old app now takes me two or three.

The only way I could think to improve it is by getting rid of the fade transitions between screens and just using the standard push animations, it makes it a little hard to work out where you are sometimes.
