Really good app, full of useful in formation, easy to to navigate and find what you want to know about a specific bar. The problem comes when you want to take out a subscription, the app just crashes.

I am a CAMRA member, and cannot understand why this App is still on AppStore. It has been discontinued by CAMRA, and now only available as a weblink from CAMRA rather than stand-alone App.

What’s gone wrong, CAMRA?
I’ve been on automatic subscription to the app for donkeys’ years, but suddenly it’s been cancelled? Admittedly it has only worked on a basic level for months and it hasn’t been updated for a year, but it was a gr8 source of info when out and about. Surely with all the money they get from subscriptions & membership they can afford to put this right?!

Great resource - can’t subscribe!
This is a great resource, but there’s no way of subscribing and fully utilising the app. I’m left with a half arsed app that tells me I need to subscribe to use the features I want to use. Thanks for that. I’ll have to find something that works. This could be great, but it’s actually a bit poor.

Subscription process needs amending
App does not advise the cost of the various subscription options before you have to commit to the purchase. App then crashes while processing subscription via Apple.

Almost every feature requires an “app subscription”. But the app doesn’t provide any idea how much the subscription costs. Attempting to purchase a subscription results in the app crashing.

Looks like this app is end of life! I have just had an email from Apple saying that (after many years) my subscription has been discontinued and for more information to contract CAMRA! After reading recent reviews there doesn’t seem to be much point. Oh well it was nice while it lasted.

Can only give this one star because no matter what I try l cannot purchase a subscription. As soon as I click to buy the app thinks about it and then closes down. Very frustrating. Have emailed CAMRA twice and they do not reply. Very disappointed.

OK until it crashed
Like others the app was fine until it wasn’t. I now get an error message every time I open it despite deleting and reloading it a couple of times. It say the error is unrecoverable. It doesnt say how to sort it. Shutting and reopening the app doesn’t work. I’ve unsubscribed.

Shameful
Truly terrible. Deleted the app within a day; cancelled my recurring subscription; and would delete my GBG app account (which they make you create) but they do not give you the option to do that. I read the reviews and thought “it can’t be that bad”. Well it is : it is totally unfit for purpose. Do not waste your money paying for a subscription. Camra should not be allowing their name to endorse rubbish like this.

Not working on iPhone since 1.5
From being one of my favourite apps, it’s now useless . Since v1.5 launched it will not load “ unrecoverable error”and uninstalling/ reinstalling makes no difference At all. Emails and on line messages are not responded to. Whilst the annual subscription is small, the point of principle is large. Maybe I’m alone in this .. oh hang on my son has the same-(. Get your act together guys please .! Let’s just get it sit king.

I’ve had a subscription for a number of years and with the world opening up, have tried to update it.

Basically fine but poor support. Needs work.
I’ve been using this app since it was launched, and its predecessor before it. It is still buggy and has a few niggles. I have a continuing subscription yet every year at renewal it stops working telling me I need to buy a subscription, and any attempt to use the restore old sub function usually renders it unusable. This year it stopped working for a couple of days, then started again. I was on holiday at the time so this was highly inconvenient! None of my 4 local pubs are shown at the moment yet they are all open. My nearest pub is shown in the next village “8.4 miles away” yet it’s only about 5. The What Pub website gives the correct results so it must be the app, not the database. I can’t post a comment on the “I’m here” function without choosing a beer, and there are loads of missing ones. It needs a facility to enter plain text. So while it’s a hugely useful app it has too many frustrating limitations. I’m not interested in the social media functionality, I just want to be able to find a pub and record my visit - the original version allowed that. Support is difficult to obtain and recent attempts have met with nothing so maybe this review will help?

Very pleased with this highly useful app
Much improved and stable app that it is really smooth and useful. I really like this for finding good quality pubs when I’m travelling. Often pubs serving good beer also sell good food, particularly in rural areas, and so can be a bit of a proxy app for that. By showing both GBG pubs and all others then more choices can be made as to where to go. The info for nonGBG pubs can be a bit outdated as requires community updates, but still a very good starting point. As stated, if in rural areas of the country eg NW Scotland then it’s a real godsend. Can’t think of any major issues and for the money I think great value.

Great App For All Beer Drinkers
Having been a CAMRA member since the seventies and the many years of travelling the country with the trusty GBG book, it was a great relief when the App was introduced. The current version which covers both GBG establishments and the other pubs is a good improvement. My only criticism is when it comes to renewal there is a problem loading the new update. Whilst this is a little frustrating, the CAMRA IT team fix it eventually Would recommend for both CAMRA members and anyone who just enjoys beer and wants to be quickly direct to a pub

Great source of info
The Good Beer Guide is like a living encyclopaedia of good pubs - yes it’s set up for beer , and it should be congratulated for the long campaign that it’s run to support real beer ; but you’ll rarely find a noteworthy beer in a bad pub ; if someone can be bothered to look after the beer then they’ll look after their pub. I’ve used the GBG for 30 years or more as a point of reference when travelling in the UK.

The Best App for finding Real Ale
I have used this app on many crawls around England. There have been some disappointments, as the list is compiled a year before publication and the standards in some places can be lower than what you are used to. It really all depends on the location - size is a good indication.

Rubbish
I’m really disappointed with this app. You have to pay a subscription to access the full information and you can do this by the month if you wish for pennies, which is why I gave this app a 1 star. But I can never get on the site, it always says that there’s a communication error, so unable to use it on the go so what’s the point?
I’ve changed my password a number of times, tried to see if I can edit my account details in it but there’s no help/assist button.
Very frustrating. I’ve ended up deleting it!

Dreadful clunky search function, no intelligence in the design. So many unnecessary clicks required to bring up a new location search. It should be one click to bring up a search window and initiate a search.
Also a pain that the info on each pub is not displayed on a single page.
Finally, when hitting back to return to search results, for goodness sake bring me back to where I was. It is a royal pain having to reposition a map search every time I click to look at pub information.

I travel quite a bit all over the UK and find CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide really useful for finding pubs locally in the towns and cities I visit. I just wish, and I include myself in this comment, that more people would rate the pubs and keep the information up to date.

POOR APP POOR SUPPORT!!!
The app continues to crash, with various error messages. With good knowledge of iOS devices and applying common sense,
have tried various steps to self resolve the issues in case they may have been caused by any possible errors on the phone, or pending iOS updates etc. I have emailed the app developers several times. Although I did eventually receive a reply and a short term resolve, the errors continued leaving the app inoperative. I have also contacted Camra direct but assume that my emails do not get reported back to Camra. I have emailed the developers again with no reply, so assume neither the developers or Camra find this concerning.

Essential DIY Tool For A Doggy-Friendly Ale Trail!
We’ve used this app when visiting a number of towns and cities and it’s brilliant for creating your own personal doggy-friendly ale trail or just simply finding the finest ale houses around! I would definitely recommend this app! 👍🏻🐶🍺

Been caught out with Seasonal Pub Times.
Excellent way to find all pubs selling real ale. My main gripe is that some details especially on opening times are not updated and pubs that have seasonal opening times are not always highlighted. Not too bad if you are in a car but if you are hiking like me or using public transport can be catastrophic. I have now started to use pubs own web sites and google to double check times.
Another gripe is that in many pubs phone signals are weak and the Good beer guide app runs very slow. Amazingly Whatpub through the Browser still works ok with the same weak signal.
Love the fact we can beer score through the app now.

Must-have pocket guide
The CAMRA Good Beer app is comprehensive and informative. Lists pubs, good beer pubs and breweries in not only your area but any town/postcode area you select. Information on individual pubs, beer provided, access information eg pet and child friendly, beer gardens, food, quiet areas is provided.
Location services, photographs and map views allows easy location. Links to pubs own web site also possible if these exist. One can log visits to chosen pubs and rate beers sampled. An excellent must have app for the beer and cider lover

Incredibly useful on our trips out and about, so convenient to use. Still needs a tweak when I’m putting location I’ve found, but a success for sure!

Problems when it first launched, but works well now
This app has lots of historical bad reviews. However, it works really well for me and I use it regularly. I like how there are pre-configured filters for different searches, and how I can select where to search before applying these. The bottom line is that I can use it to find Good Beer wherever I am, and that is most important to me.

Great!
Quick and easy to use. The only problem for me if remembering the name of a brewery if I’m scoring the next day. It would be good if there was a memory jogger, or a way to put in the title first, instead of the brewery. Other than that, definitely my “go to” method of scoring the beer that I’ve had, which is vitally important for so many reasons.

I will persevere with this app (not much choice really) but it’s far from perfect. In a strong signal area it’s great but very often I’m in the wilds, or heaven forbid in a pub and the app takes forever to load. I’d love the opportunity to be able to download the basic data to my ‘phone and top this up with the bells and whistles if I have a decent signal.
Would be good to have the old app turned back on to use in similar emergencies!
Other than that. It is the GBG after all. Who would want to live without it?

Useful for when out and about
A bit clunky in places but generally good. Would like to see a filter for National Inventory/Heritage pubs to make route planning easier. Also an honourable mention icon for pubs not in the Good Beer Guide but still recommended by branches would be great for planning trips to unfamiliar places.

The only app an ale fanatic needs
For a fiver a year, this is an absolutely essential app. I’m sure anyone looking into it obviously would own a copy (or 30) of our bible, the good beer guide. This is as beautiful with maps and location. You also don’t have to deface a holy book to know which pubs you’ve been to or loved. ‘‘Tis a cracker!!!!

The Good Beer Guide app is a must for anyone who travels regularly and wants to quickly find pubs in the area they are in, especially those that are in the Guide. The beer scoring part of it makes it possible for the quality of beers being served to be recorded. The information about breweries and their ales in invaluable to the serious drinker.

Indispensable
Highly informative. If you’re in an unfamiliar location it will tell you where the nearest pubs are, with links to their websites, and directions using Google Maps or Apple Maps. For Good Beer Guide pubs there is a description taken from the guide. You can also look up breweries and get beer descriptions. A must for Real Ale fans.

Well designed, easy to use and affordable. As a CAMRA member, I travel frequently and often use the App with its filters to find and locate pubs that may not have been in the guide. Love being able to rate the beer too. Well done CAMRA.

Good, but.......
I got the App after buying the GBG so as to locate real ale pubs whilst out and about. In terms of pub finding- spot on. What is not known, are any pubs missed off? But not an issue as there are plenty of pubs to try, many of which are serendipitous experiences.
With respect to the listing of beers, there are lots of gaps in the database. I suspect over time this will be resolved.

After paying the annual subscription, which due me is worth it with my travels, I was pointed to the CAMRA What Pub website. I had a look and concluded there is the same info as the App, but for out and about use I find the App so much better, as I arrive somewhere and then look rather than use advance planning.

Beware
I’ve had CAMRA app for a few years. I like it!
I have a recurring annual sub which recently renewed (I have a receipt). The App does not recognise that I have a current subscription so does not give me full access. When I attempt to “restore previous subscription” it tells me it can’t find one and to contact CAMRA Support. Fair enough, problems can happen.
My issue - The only way to contact CAMRA support is to complete a message form. There is no contact telephone number. This morning I have sent my third message (over the last couple of weeks) and I have had no reply.

Subscription issues!!!
I have been a member of CAMRA for many years and have subscribed to the Good Beer Guide year on year. Unfortunately this latest app is very poor. I have a full years subscription but the app continuously says that I am not subscribed. I have tried restoring the subscription, logging off and on and even uninstalling and reinstalling. What makes matters worse is the app keeps telling me to contact support but there is no support number or any information to how I contact support. VERY DISSAPPOINTING!

Where am I?
It’s a nice enough app but, in spite of requests, there has been no effort to place a live location cursor to aid navigation while in the map window.
It’s a nuisance to have to load Google maps, for example, when trying to find pubs in an unfamiliar location.
Every other ‘beer’ app that I use shows a current location.
How hard can it be?
Please sort it out.

Content fine, application needs improvement
The GBG has become a trusted and essential aid to any night out, especially when travelling. The difficulty was that the hard copy was heavy and unwieldy so having it on your device made so much sense. The problem was that the programme was rushed into service with issues unresolved, for example; updates do not happen, pubs are removed from the Guide but these continue to appear online; the Google system used fails repeatedly to remember individual users so you have to log in time and again; and the memory of your previous notes on visits can partially vanish. Despite these issues, which with any other app would lead to the delete button being deployed, the content, namely the various pubs, their beers and contact details, remain highly important and the Guide retains it’s status as a valuable aid. If only the backup services were more in place, clear contact details and responses to requests for help made a higher priority, then maybe I could give it a higher rating.

I have been using the app version of the GBG for some years and always use it to find places to eat and drink whilst travelling around the UK. I can honestly say it has never let me down we have found some great places, a big thank you to all the developers and contributors

Great travel guide
Great guide to pubs that really helps you to find pubs worth visiting locally to where you live but also whilst you away for weekends or on holiday. Good beer guide pubs are always worth visiting even if you don’t like real ale as in my experience (I have been buying the guide since 1990)landlords who look after their beer well invariably run the best pubs.

Almost excellent
As a long time user of the Good Beer Guide, from mark 1 paper book through original app to now, using an app is excellent for finding gems in unfamiliar places. If this app was more intuitive to use regarding changing the search area from current location to a named location, it would get five stars

Extremely useful when travelling around Great Britain
I have travelled with the GBG since the seventies and it’s generally a reliable way of finding a good pub with great beer wherever you are.
There are so many new pubs appearing now that it’s very useful even in towns and cities that I’ve known for years.
It always loads quickly and makes it easy to find the pubs.
I like being able to filter out non-GBG pubs or include them.
I wish there was a way to filter out the Wetherspoons!

Excellent app- one flaw
The definitive guide to pubs- easy to use and always up to date. The brewery guide is also very good.
Why not five stars? The app has an annoying habit of asking for your App Store password; quite why, I’m not sure.
Get this fixed and I’d have no hesitation in awarding the app the full five stars.

Needs some tweaking
I love the app and would have given 5 stars but it is annoying that it keeps asking to sign in to iTunes Store every time you open or change page
The app itself has helped me find some fantastic pubs. Well done!

Generally a good app
Upgraded to the paid addition, but didn't notice any improvements. Main downside is when trying to enter what beer you are drinking when creating a review, if the beer isn't listed in the app you cannot enter it! Maybe CAMRA doesn't expect people to try new or less common / unusual beers?

Nearly there
As a user of the mobile version of the GBG for at least five years including before the huge change to the more ‘social’ version it is kind of getting better but still one of my regularly used apps that had bugs, at least in my experience.
The near constant pop up request for Apple ID details when just using the app is annoying, especially as iOS doesn’t allow one to switch apps without killing the password box so if you have a complex password on your Apple ID which is saved in a password manager app it’s difficult to deal with. Yes that kind of Apple issues but no other app I use a lot prompt for Apple ID details as much as this one.
The what are you drinking function when checking in is a bit pointless as it doesn’t know many ales, it’s trying to be line other social beer apps but without the data. And at least on my XS going into that area means one has to kill the app as well the back link doesn’t work as in the taskbar area of the screen. Come on camra, the iPhone X with this screen layout has been out for 18 months.
As a camra member for 15+ years I so want this app to be perfect and it could be albeit like many people I use it primarily what the older non-social version was and why this is always renewed every year, it saves buying 8 carrying the paper version of the GBG around! Either fix the issues or strip out the not really working ‘social’ stuff.

Great but two small issues
This app and the content are great! Absolutely love it.
I have one bug to report though and one feature request.
Bug: The app causes constant requests to the App Store, prompting a password entry box. This really hinders the app usage. It feels like some data wasn’t stored on the server or locally and keeps getting fetched from Apple.
Request: Filtering search results on favourites. It’d be super helpful to quickly see which pubs you’ve wanted to check out are nearby. Now I find myself going back to known favourites instead.

Invaluable resource
For anyone with an interest in beer it is a great resource. I always search it when anywhere new to find good pubs and breweries. You can search by current location or a specific location and can get directions.
