Needs updating

It’s been over two months since it’s been updated with new models. This for me is a handy app but needs to be done regularly

Great reference guide

This app is great for keeping track of all the paints for individual models.
However, I do feel that an option to bulk buy paints would be a great addition; which could link in to the Games Workshop website. If you could select a model and add all the necessary paints to your account basket it would be a much quicker and more helpful way of ordering specific paints rather than scrolling & selecting paints individually on the website.

Super Helpful But missing things

This app is great especially when your going to the shop and you need to now what paints to buy yet the project system is sort of flawed as the not so dominant armys for example Space Wolves only has one miniature in the app so the project tab is often useless to some people. But I do understand that there are so many miniatures in warhammer and it will take massive amounts of time to add miniatures in to the app so if this app keeps updating with new miniatures I’ll be sure to edit my review.

Great App

This app has gone from strength to strength. It now has in depth instructions and indicates which part of of model to paint which colour step by step.

Older version was better

My 2 main dislikes are:
1) They have removed the drybrush option.
2) Everything is now listed and paired instead of pointed to and described in detail.
I still use it, but mainly to keep track of what paints I already have.
The ‘Paint by Model’ system seems very biased too.

Thoughts

Scroll issue found on first load of the model details page. The image / page staggers briefly.
I have noticed that the image for contract paints are exactly identical to the one for the classic method. As this is the case I cannot become aware of the differences. I guess this is a content issue - lacking an appropriate image. Still it is misleading.
Cannot filter by dark eldar - it only accepts drukhari.
My Projects is really useful. Well done. It has a consistently replicatable crash. 1) have no projects. 2) create project with no name (so it gets default named My Project) 3) Add a colour. 4) Go back to the project list (or return to it later) 5) Remove the project 6) Crash!. Hope you’re using crashlytics or something.
In advanced guides, when some images fail to load it and you click on a guide the video will not load. When you then press back (to the guide list) the screen does not attempt to reload.
The add to project icon is clipped on the right.
When you don’t allow permissions on the barcode scanner screen, the cancel button does not work. I can not leave the screen, so I guess that’s the end of my feedback.

Good App but Limited Selection

Nicely laid out app with great info for amateurs and pros alike. The Search facility is a bit dodgy, returning odd results (that don't contain the Search words) but the main problem I have with it is the extremely limited selection of paint schemes (unless you only play 40k).
LoTR only has 10 schemes, and there's nothing for some other GW games.
So it's great if 40k is your thing, severely lacking otherwise.

Excellent start - NOK to drop older paint colours

This is an excellent app to start your painting.
I lonely have T’au so am somewhat limited as the other colour variants are scarce.
My only gripe is that the app fails to keep existing paints in my inventory once they are dropped - why not keep the old names but just say they are no longer listed (& even better if you would offer a similar current alternative!!?)
Good luck and keep going

App has become much worse

Since the update all the drybrush combinations seem to have been removed- this is very frustrating and makes the app significantly less useful.

Dry brushing missed

A good app however preferred the old version of it as it contained the dry brushing segment for each colour. Love the new contrast paints but miss the old option.
Could it be added back as a third option maybe? I know a lot of hobbyists still use the technique.

Lots of great content, fundamental UI issues

Firstly, the content in this app is great. Showing which paints complement each other is really useful and the tutorials are excellent.
That being said, it’s probably best to view these tutorials in YouTube, either on a PC or on the phone/iPad.
When viewed in the app on a phone, you see Duncan shrunk to the size of a postage stamp and are unable to fill the screen using the fit to screen icon.
This app desperately needs to support landscape view when playing the videos! Other than that it’s really good, with lots of individual model paint schemes and colour guides.

Good

Prefer how the app was laid out before the most recent update, overall find the app useful but the new layout is a bit difficult to follow.
I think there should be more alternative colour schemes for each faction ie subfactions of imperial guard, armoured division colours and more Knight house colours/chaos knight warbands and chaos god allegiance colour schemes

Latest update

I have used this app to help with painting as I am slightly colour blind and it helps me decide which paints and shade to use. It’s a great help and I have used it since it first came out the regular updates are very useful and this latest version has added a new perspective with classic and contrast.
However I am disappointed that the app no longer has the dry brushing painting information available. Please reinstate “dry” painting.

App just keeps improving. June 2019 update takes it forward another leap vastly improving the paint by model guide massively. Well done GW!

I prefer the ability to also choose the drybrushing technique, but the project organiser is AMAZING! So Citadel colour is about 8/10 seeing as it has both added and subtracted.

Brilliant

I think this app is great, really helpful when planning what models to paint and being able to make a wish list for when I go to the store,
It still feels a bit bland though I feel that you guys could add so many more models into the catalogue,
Instead of banding all the models together why can’t you make sections for orks, deathwatch, tyranids... it would feel like it has more depth, you could also show the different clan colours for each army,
You could also have section that we could upload pictures of models we have done ourself with the ability to show what paints and styles where used,
Being able to add friends and make a profile
And like being able to add paints to you inventory maybe have an inventory of what models you have so you can compare with friends
I really hope to see more from this app it would be awesome, the younger generation find it massively useful, it would be cool to see wh40k become more popular too and making it interactive in this way will appeal to so many more people and keep people interested,
And if you didn’t read this, for the record screw you, I really thought about it

Very good but needs more

Great app that quickly shows you what colours to use to get any desired affect you want. However this desperately needs to be updated with new models as new models are released by GW. For example just a Black Legion space marine to coincide with Vigilus Ablaze or the Genestealer Cults

Very helpful. Suggestion:

I’d just like to say that this app has been extremely helpful so thank you for making it. My suggestion is that it would be really helpful if you added a “what would it look like if I did this” part, so you could input the paints you want to paint and you could see what it would look like, people could even upload their paint combinations to make it easier. Thanks for reading😁

Really useful

This is a brilliant app to give inspiration and help when painting models, however i think the paint combinations should be updated again (eg bone colour) and there should be options for alternative paints. What I also think would really improve this is a list system where we could store our own paint combinations for miniatures- whether that involves the actual miniature or just a tick-box-type-thing as losing track of what you used is incredibly annoying.

Great app, really useful, but a few niggles

Like I say, it’s a great app but there are a few areas for improvement:
- Small bug with forgetting the models you’ve favourited;
- Be great if we could share data (like your list of paints) between devices;
- Be great if we could link to all your fantastic YouTube videos straight from the app;
- Be great if we could access the history of White Dwarf (etc) paint guides too; but I reckon that’d be a subscription thing;
- Finally, with so many figures now available, it would be useful to extend the available filters to include things like allegiance and basic colour theme.
I could add more but I’m sure you’ll get to them eventually. Again, great app - please keep it up.

Great App- Still Room For Improvement

Love this app- so much better than having to run an excel spreadsheet for all my paints. So why only 3 Stars? One star each for the following bits that are missing/ need improving.
1. The barcode reader doesn’t work properly. It takes ages to register... if it does at all. Quicker to go through the process of manually entering the paints.
2. There’s no info for any terrain/ game boards. These are such a big part of the game that surely they should be included in the paint recipes?
Looking forward to updating my score in due course!

More updates will make this essential

As a jumping off point for someone looking at painting some Warhammer minitatures, this is a great app. The paint inventory and wishlist is great to keep track of what you've got and want, and the 'Paint by Model' section is functionally brilliant - tapping a mini will show you the colours to use to get the same effect, whether by layering paint or drybrushing, and you can add a paint directly to your wishlist or inventory from here
A couple things give a little disappointment however, which I feel more frequent updates and care of the app could fix and make it essential for painters in the hobby. For one, the minitaure selection is somewhat limited. Sure, it shows you several paint schemes for your army, but only one model. I can see a Tyranid Hive Tyrant in Leviathan colour scheme for example, but not one in any other. You can get an idea for how the colours should look from other models in the Tyranid range, but I'd argue having an option to select a model, then select a paint scheme for it would be far more benefitial. The 'favourite' function in the models menu also doesn't work if you close the app, it just wipes the list like you've not added anything to it. A minor grumble, admittadly, but having models you paint frequently available to check by going to a list would be much smoother on the user. I think having some kind of direct link to the Warhammer TV site and Youtube would help newcomers to the hobby with things like painting techniques and building and painting guides (I've had friends new to painting ask what drybrushing is for example, a video showing how to do so in the app would help out with that).
Minor gripes aside, it's great for painters! Worth grabbing to keep track of your inventory and for a hand with painting new models when doing official colour schemes. Plus it's free! Give it a shot!

Great, but iCloud syncing needed

The app is great, but would be excellent if iCloud syncing was implemented, as I use multiple devices, iPad when painting and iPhone in shop, so editing in one and syncing to other would make it 5 star

Lacks a proper colour chart

I like the app, however, the lack of a basic colour chart is a flaw. The filters on the web store offer an easier way to search by colour for shades.
Could we please have:
A proper colour chart.
The ability to search by colour
Better filters to sort by game system and army
Links to the on-line painting videos

Essential...

Started painting the GW miniatures again after a 25 year break. This app is absolutely essential I think - really helped me understand the layering / shading system and track which paints I need and have got. One new suggestion - would you be able to incorporate the 360 degree images of the miniatures from the website into the app? Would love to be able to rotate around them. Also - alternative schemes for some of them (like I’ve found in White Dwarf) might be good. I would gladly pay for this app.

A valuable app for the loyal Citadel user.

This is an excellent app. The only drawback is that I would like to be able to sync my inventory and wish list across multiple devices, and full access integration with the Warhammer TV YouTube channel. Then the app would get 5 stars!

Pretty Good App

I have some feedback on the App that would be a great improvement.
1. Camera - i have an iphone 7 and the scanning of barcodes does not recognise smaller distance barcodes. The camera does not focus close up and does not pick up the barcode to add to inventory. Its definitely the app as QRReader the app can pick up the barcode when i hold the paint pot a bit further away.
2. Favourites - this one is a big gripe of mine. When you search to paint by miniature and add them as favourites, they just disappear as favourites the next time I open the app. Would be great if it retained it after I left the App.
3. In-app feedback or contact details rather than having to leave the app.
Otherwise a really good app and very useful for beginners and veterans alike!
