Found the perfect podcast player

Initial feelings, great and perfect podcast player.

I’ve only had this podcast player for 2 days and already it’s become my favourite.

I’ve been searching, looking at many podcast players and reverted to using Apples podcast player until I came across this app.

Nice, easy use features, great layout, I love the timeline scrolling when listening to a podcast and the scroll time appears, it’s little things like this that make apps like this great.

Only one slight niggle and lots of IT software companies are doing it and that’s the subscription route, ok it’s only 99p per month which is good value for this app, I work with Adobe software and it’s a nightmare. As long as it’s stays at this price I don’t think it will scare buyers away.

Overall, great job Devs, keep it going.

Best podcast app I’ve used.

This is the best podcast app I’ve used. It has a clear, bright and very user friendly feel about it. Navigation from one display to the next is a doddle. I can, without fuss or effort find what I’m looking for. I would not hesitate to recommend downloading it. I find using the non-subscription version perfectly adequate. Try it - you won’t want to use any other podcast app again !

Plays podcast episodes in sequence

I tried 4 different apps to get the ability to play a podcast continuously but none made it easy. Castbox does it!

Ok but nothing special

I’ve been subscribed for a couple of months but this app hasn’t really delivered. The ‘Watch’ app is merely a remote, the content doesn’t transfer over to the watch like the Apple podcast app.

I’m now unsubscribing because in the last few weeks I’ve not been able to download certain podcasts. I keep getting download errors despite, device restarts etc.

However I can download the same podcasts on other apps so it’s clearly an Castbox issue. I’ve mentioned my issue a few times on Twitter, however those messages have been ignored.

Really good in everyway apart from one major thing

I’ve tried many podcast players and this is def my favourite however the option to go premium which I’d def do to personalise the homepage is only available on a monthly subscription payment. This should be a one off payment which I’d have thought would be more profitable also as it’s more enticing. I’ll wait and see

Finally found this podcast with likes function

It’s very convenient to like a podcast and see how many people liked the podcast to help decide if I’m going to listen to or not. Also the liked podcasts can be seen from the “favorite” tab, So it’s very easy to find them in future.

suggestion:

1. Sharing function is not working very well. It directs to the app download page rather than the podcast that I am recommending.

2. Auto download the liked podcast episodes so that I can listen to them even without Wi-Fi

You can’t access to the list of your available podcast when you’re offline. The automatic download is not automatic. Hence when you need it, no list of podcasts and no downloaded. Useless.

CarPlay Users Beware

The app works well and is nice to use in many ways but not for Apple CarPlay users. In CarPlay mode there is no option to fast forward the podcast. If I pick up my phone I can jump 15 seconds at a time but not on CarPlay mode which is a problem for me as I listen to all my podcasts in the car. Seems such a simple thing to be missing. Perhaps you can do it another way but I cannot find it. So I’m ditching the app and moving on to another.

Great

Fantastic app and the only one I could find that lets you download all the episodes of a podcast and not just the most recent 100 episodes.

One feature I would like is a shuffle button. I mainly listen to podcasts for listening practice for foreign language study so I often listen to the same episodes many many times. It would be great to have a shuffle button so I could just continually listen to random episodes of the podcast.

Not sure how that happened.

Would not recommend at all. Loads of issues and support team is absolutely useless.

And it hasn't been working at all since the beginning of the month and the last two updates (which were presumably to fix this) haven't made any difference. So all my painfully slowly downloaded episodes (despite excellent fibre optic Wi-Fi) are just taking up room on my phone without any possibility of listening to them.

Loved at the beginning...

Loved the fact it was a lot like the apple podcast app used to be before they decided to make it very un-user-friendly. However, they have quite a few things that create problems.

A really annoying one, for example, is the fact that, when you download more than one episode of the same podcast, it ranks it in the order you downloaded it, not in the order of the original date and time of the podcast. So you either have to keep stopping at the end of each episode to select the correct one next or download them one by one to keep the order in.

Another one is that it is a bit erratic in terms of deciding whether a podcast has been listened to or not. So I often end up starting episodes I've already listened to and then needing to go in and change the episode.

There also are regular issues. A couple of months ago, it just kept crashing every time I tried to go into my downloaded episodes. Now it's lost all my subscribed podcasts.

I saw some reviews mentioning apps without these issues so will try to find out which ones they are talking about...

This response is typical of the support team: they keep asking for more detail where there is no more detail that can be given. Asking for example for screen-shots of my subscriptions page showing I have no subscribed shows, as if that wasn't self-explanatory enough...

The solution they came up with was to delete the app (and all of my downloaded episodes with it, which by the way take for ever as it seems the downloads all fail unless I am looking at them downloading, if I move to another app on my phone while waiting I have to start them downloading all over again as they all failed) and redownload it to see if that solved the problem.

And since the beginning of the month (Sep-18), the app has been constantly crashing again so I can't even open it to try and get through all the downloaded episodes I have.

Great for getting old missed episodes!

I missed a bunch of episodes of podcasts while I was away on holiday. When I went I catch up many older episodes were no longer on the server. Castbox was the only one of many podcasts apps I looked at which still had all the old episodes archived. I’m very thankful!

No Gimmicks. Lovely Frills. Podcasts as they should be.

I moved to Androud in 2013, and there was one major challenge; find a replacement for Podcasts. At the time, Podcasts with it's streaming, downloading, easy catalogue management and notifications was a near unbeatable feat it seemed, but in time I found a successor and have since continued to enjoy podcasts anywhere I go. So you can imagine my dismay upon returning to iOS to find Podcasts a poorly functioning hell and the vast majority of it's platform competitors focussed on maddening gimmicks and constrained UX. Then along came Castbox, everything I needed with a sprinkle of pretty UI and a topping of fun discoverability features.

If you treat Podcasts like albums, not like live radio, Castbox is for you.

I have been looking for a Podcast app that offers unlimited and fast downloads, no visual advertisements and has a nice looking interface for what seems like forever. I have finally found it with CastBox. It is everything Apple Podcasts wishes it could be. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!

Needs some changes

I got this app because it had a 'downloaded episodes' which other podcast apps do not. That's really handy when you want to save data by not streaming. So that's good. Although it would be even better if you could manually sort your queued episodes.

The problem is this app does not remember your place, so if you close the app and go back to a podcast you were listening to, it starts from the beginning again. Not good.

Flaws

There are some annoying things about this app, first I downloaded 13 episodes of a podcast but I didn't realise it had put them into a different order so I ended up listening to them in the wrong order. Frustrating.

Also it doesn't save where you last finished listening so you have to try remember and skip to that part the next time you use the app. I've downloaded a different one that doesn't do this. It's much easier.

A free (and better) alternative to Overcast!

I listen to news podcasts on my daily commute, and given how often Overcast crashes these days, I'm so glad to have found CastBox! So far, CastBox has proven to be a much better podcast app than Overcast. Several distinct features that I highly recommend checking out: episode search by keyword (e.g. want to find all the interviews Ezra Klein, Malcolm Gladwell, Joe Rogan or Tim Ferriss ever did?), subscriber count (want to know how popular your favorite podcast/audiobook/radio station is?), episode likes (want to go back to that TED or NPR story from two weeks ago?).

Having tried so many different podcast apps, I can safely say that CastBox is the best free app for podcasts, music, audiobooks, and audio news on-the-go. It seems to have a greater selection of programs than the other apps I've tried. My only suggestion right now is perhaps to have more speed adjustment options.
