Purchased the full version some time ago. My room is a disco with my Phillips hue bulbs when I want it to be and using Spotify. All my friends love it too.

I’ve had hue lights for some time now and inevitably I’ve tried a few apps here and there to try to get more out them. This really is one of the most impressive I’ve seen for a while. I’m an 80s clubber and I managed to take myself back 30 years in my front room with this, Spotify and a pair of headphones! If you have the proper Philips full spectrum lights (preferably a light strip at least) and a half decent sound system, just get this!!

Anti climax

Lots of potential but the sync is awful. Doesn’t work properly with Apple Music. The lights don’t seem to sync with music properly and the amount of time it takes to gather information is frustrating to say the least. Very good concept, however it needs a bit more work for Apple Music anyway.

Doesn’t work with Sonos

For some reason this doesn’t work with Sonos or even just the microphone.

I have tried to connect my lights to the output from my Sonos - either iTunes within the Sonos app or Youtube on my TV connected to the Sonos but the lights don’t change/strobe at all even when I am asking it to detect the audio. The track recognition doesn’t work at all.

Great party app for lights but no stereo or airplay 2 support.

So this works better than the other apps like hue party which seem to have a delay and become instantly out of sync.

So far it seems great but after paying £5.99 and also testing the beta. I can see it only plays out of one of my homepods.

I use two homepods in stereo mode to boost the bass and sound.

So whilst it’s really great for parties(light wise) I am limited to 1 homepods out of the 6 across my house.

Not sure if AirPlay 2 support can be added or even paired homepods but that is the only thing it is missing.

I’ve never really expected much from 3rd party apps working with hue. There’s some nice ideas with poor execution. This however I’m pleased to say is the exception. Very simple to get working and in my case has worked flawlessly.

I’m really impressed with how well you can tune the light > music sync and how responsive it is.

I would light to see more customisation options, presets and better explanations of settings. I would also like a secondary lights option so that you could have more than one group of lights working so the 2nd group kicks in only on extremities of the song.

Pricey, but in my opinion worth every penny. Good work!

Probably nice app with a lot of buts...

Installed was about to connect with Spotify and decided to check what info from my phone it reads, it happens that they collect all the data as emails, contacts, health, credit info and financial info. Sorry but will pass on sharing all that with guys I don’t even know personally. Otherwise probably is a great app for teenagers and people that don’t bother about all that stuff. If I have to get a blank phone just to use it with the app I think is bet r to just pay for the original .

Truly awesome

No purpose to the lights.

If this app allowed for light placement so that it could dynamically light certain lights in sync with each other, it may be a good app. However, as it currently is. It just flashes any random light to the beat of the music. There is no big ‘blast of light’ from all lights in sync on higher volume sound or ‘drop’ and therefore it is just randomly flashing lights with no real purpose.

Hi there, I have recently downloaded this app which I’ve used a few times now, an I’ve got to say I Am Extremely Impressed!! Me an my partner brought the Phillips Hue Lights about 3-4 years ago, 3 lights plus the Hue Bridge, I thought they were really good when we first got them, but over the years they’ve got Soo much better. We use them each an everyday. But I’ve got a slight problem now which is probably my own fault, I had an Update in the App Store for this app, that read its to fix the problem since the last update as it somehow stopped the lights from being in sync with the music, I didn’t have a problem so left it, but I updated the rest of my apps an thought ok I’ll do this one too.... It’s now not working at all so when playing music and the app is open, it says it’s not detecting any music. Ive always heard why fix something that isn’t broken, I’ve done just that an now it is. Is there possibly something that can be done so I can put it right again? Any help would be much appreciated, Thank You.

Blew My Mind

I saw this app on a Facebook HomeKit group and thought I’d give it a go. It blew my mind when I first powered it up and immediately purchased the £6 full option! The only downside is no APPLE TV option! That would be game changing for this app... and there should be options for profiles or something so if you can choose a profile for a time of day etc like: party profile can activate 4 lights for example or quiet time could activate 2 lights or chilled bath time where only the bathroom light would activate.

ADD THOSE TWO FEATURES THEN THIS APP WOULD BE UNSTOPPABLE AND I WOULD POST IT EVERYWHERE ONLINE! 🥳

I am probably doing something wrong.

When I downloaded the app I discovered that it controls one Hue bulb.. I had to pay £5.99 to access my other 20 plus Hue Bulbs and light strip..

I have found it random and slow to react to Spotify..

As I said at the start of this post, it’s probably my fault and I’ve missed a certain setting..

I will experiment and update this post when I master it.. At the moment I feel that it’s not as intuitive as it could be ..

Good but no longer seems to work with iTunes

I enjoyed this app which seemed to be the best out there for syncing music with my Hue lights. However, I’ve tried to use it recently and it only seems able to sync with Apple Music or Spotify. I always synced mine with iTunes and it’s disappointing if this functionality has been taken away.

Great value

Have had this app a couple of weeks now and whilst there were some teething problems getting it running I now love it. I upgraded to premium version (which is a fraction of the price you pay to buy Philips Hue lights in the first place) and have not regretted it at all. Great fun, plenty of flexibility and if you need any support from the developer they are on hand to help you out.

100% worth it paying for it!

For context, I've got two Phillips Hue light strips. I got by for 4 months by using the free version and putting up with only using one light strip at a time.

I then decided it's probably worth a try of paying for it and it was well worth it!

I'm a developer myself, I've played about with simple controls of my lights from my own apps, but the developer of this has hit the nail on the head for synchronisation.

It's a far better experience having my whole living room sync with the music instead of just part of it.

I can't remember if the Intensity control was customisable before paying for it but this is by far my favourite control, and most useful. Very easily lets you change the tone of the lights without having to change any other settings. Low intensity works well for a more subtle feel, simply sliding it up to high perfectly resets the tone to popping!

Best App For Disco Lights

I have to agree with other reviews; ie: don’t expect “sound to light” sync. because it’s a random light show. Also, mine worked a couple of times and now it doesn’t do anything. Chocolate tea pot springs to mind.

The developer appears to want feedback but nothing seems to be improved.

Amazing

This is an amazing app. I can maybe understand why people with one or two bulbs are like....meh. I have 4 hue bulbs, 2 light strips and a hue go in an open plan area. I have spent the last two hours playing with different genres, everything from Mozart to skrillex and I am genuinely impressed. It really is like being at a light show. Perfectly synchronised lights. Smooth light transitions for the melodic parts of songs then when the beat drops the lights are bang on with the bpm, but at the same time, not repetitive. It’s worth the money in my opinion. Well done.

Slow start to get he app running

At first this didn’t make sense to me, however after emailing Nicolas the app developer asking what does what etc this makes a lot more sense and at the moment everything is running as expected.

Nicolas replies to your emails in super quick time and this very helpful.

I still say that maybe on the trial one bulb is not enough to try this for free this should be a min of 2 as most people will have at least 2 bulbs in a room.

An idea to have an instruction manual within the purchased app to explain what does what will most likely be a huge advantage.

The customise button in the top right corner may have a bug but email Nicolas and he will sort this in due course but this doesn’t inhibit the app from working.

I have hue bulbs all over the house and it works with all of them, this app has so much potential and other things could be done with it, I would recommend this app if you like watching a light show to your music.

Strong potential, but some gaps in functionality

It’s really tight with how it coordinates with songs. A reasonable hit rate with satisfying effects, although given the algorithmic approach sometimes it can be a little hit and miss. What’s a miss however is the fact you can’t seem to save custom presets if you upgrade the app.

[Edit]: the developer explained the pausing is a system level constraint rather than an app fault. I’ve also noticed that if you disable mic bypass, the audio session persists the app (and functionality) longer, although this won’t be suitable if you use Bluetooth speakers with microphones as it’ll drop the audio codec/quality. I’ve also noticed some of the toggles under settings (inc. Mic bypass) don’t update immediately but require a restart. Not a particularly substantial issue, but a slight annoyance.

Actually quite funny

As a teacher of Music and Music technology, and a big fan of films and well ... Music obviously, I was quite excited for this concept idea. I’ve actually had quite a laugh at what this app does, cause the lights/effects are so genuinely un-synchronised and unrecognisable. There’s honestly 100% absolutely no relation between the music and the lights whatsoever, and I think ‘Hue’ from My Phillips Hue kit has had numerous strokes and heart attacks and i’m unsure whether to call an ambulance or continue laughing. I just don’t actually have a clue what any of my lights are doing, seems totally random colour changes and weird sudden flashes. It may be because i’m playing my music over AirPlay through my Sky Q box because I like to use the surround sound kit for my music, and that may create a problem with delays. A long way to go if this is to be effective for all methods of use. Deleted!

Good app - minor improvement needed

Firstly to those moaning about having to pay £5 for full controls - how about you develop an app yourselves to do exactly what you want, then you can have it all for nothing. Otherwise have some consideration for the time & effort someone puts in to coding the app.

You can try if out before deciding to pay.

So to the app itself. Easy to set up and customise as you see fit.

Improvement - add the ability to save custom settings. Bit frustrating to have to add them again every time you use the app

Just missing one thing!

So far, this app has been 100% perfect. So nice to see one of these Hue party apps that syncs with media that wasn’t a scam to rob you of £5. Especially when you turn on microphone syncing, the timing is perfect. Definitely worth the money for premium.

Only one wish, and that is, when you are using multiple lights of love to see an optional toggle to make it so all the lights are the same colour when changing as they all do different colours at the moment, which is cool, but can be overwhelming. Otherwise, fine!

And, also a note to the developer, if there are any opportunities to make another app, might I recommend one for the Apple TV which syncs hue lights with the movies, as that market is currently very flawed!

Very good!

I use this app with Sonos and Apple Music, and after I spent some time adjusting the timing, it now works very well.

I decided to pay the £5 to unlock all of the features, and it was well worth it. Having multiple lights changing with the music in one room is no comparison to only having the one; and the ability to adjust the energy level allows for more intense flashing during parties and a more personalised atmosphere.

The transition between Songs is smooth and for me, there is only a delay of 1 or 2 seconds, before the lights start changing with the beat of the next song.

It took me a while to get used to, and appreciate, the way the lights change, but after having tried most of the other hue-music apps I found this one to be by far the best, as there is no lag between the music and the lights.

Honestly, avoid.

Like others I’ve found this app to be overpriced and overrated. Using my Apple Music account was hit and miss, took ages to manage to get it working ok (and I’m not a stranger to using Hue) and when it did work it didn’t work well. Most of the time the app took half the song to find the information of the track, almost every time the actual song being shown in the app was not the song playing and often it couldn’t find the song at all. This resulted in either completely random light shows or the lights simply being stuck doing nothing.

Sorry but I can’t, with any conscience, allow others to pay quite a hefty price for what is a pretty poor app. It also feels like the very limited one light trial version is designed to force people to pay to upgrade, it’s a money grab. I’d quite like a refund too, if possible.

Bit pointless that you can’t use any controls and you can only use ONE bulb in the free version without paying to upgrade. What’s the point in having 1 bulb flashing in the corner?? Deleted the app instead.

Sorry, Not impressed

When I eventually got the app to work (it seemed to be forcing Apple Music to drop the airplay connection), it works. But I’m afraid to say that the light flashes appear to be totally random and bear no relation at all to the music I’m listening to. I’m pretty disappointed to have spent a fiver on this to be honest.
