Difficult to focus on recent iPhones

On an iPhone 15 Pro it’s hard to scan barcodes, you have to hold them at least 20 away which for small barcodes is hard to scan.
Technical detail - on the iPhone 14 Pro Apple increased the minimum focus distance for the main camera. Instead at short focus distances the app needs to switch to the ultra wide camera.

Time keeping bug.

Quite often, when time keeping, the App picks up position 1 when starting the timer!!
The app just needs a slight delay before it can register the first time position between starting and timing. Not sure many people can do a 5k run in 0.03 seconds.

No longer vibrates when barcode scanning

I've just done barcode scanning for the first time in a few weeks. I think the last time I used the app it was version 2.0.11 I used 2.1.0 today. The first thing I noticed was that the phone no longer vibrated whenever a barcode was successfully scanned. The lack of feedback made the job very difficult. I took my phone off silent, at which point a quiet ping was just about heard on every successful scan.
On the plus side I noticed that it scanned barcodes more accurately and the green boxes shown round barcodes when they'd been identified as such helped - except such box was also shown for a barcode that hadn't scanned correctly - so I initially thought it had. Luckily I noticed the problem in time.
I see my vibrate issue was probably caused by the "Haptic feedback" improvement made in 2.0.12. If I switch on System Haptics in Settings > Sounds & Haptics then phone does a little vibrate when a barcode is successfully scanned.
The only problem with this is that I don't want system haptics switched on for my day-to-day phone use.
So could the app again vibrate on successful barcode scan when the phone's set to silent please.
This is on iPhone 13 mini, iOS 17.5.1

Turn WiFi off

As said before. Some Parkruns are in town and just turning to airplane mode is not enough. To stop interruptions, turn WiFi off as well. So phones are configured to log on to local hot spots. It caused us problems in Whitstable. Please take note. Main HQ seem unable to comment. Thank you. Phil Hadler.n

Great app but can be better

Hi, I think the app is simple and great. One thing I noticed today was that the volume up was adding extra times in, which I wasn't expecting. I was actually trying to increase the volume so I could hear the beep louder. This caused the results to get messed up. It would be great if we could hold down and delete an accidental time with a confirmation. That would allow us to quickly fix errors as they happen and provide more accurate timings.

Great app but please add a swipe to delete option

The app works really well for most things but really needs a “swipe to delete” option on the timing part - when it rains, raindrops hit the phone and cause false presses/times.
Sometimes on starting the timer it will also add one or two false times at 00.00.01 or 00.00.03 seconds throwing all the other times out! “Swipe to delete” or at least “swipe to flag as incorrect and not upload” would be massively useful to fix this issue.
It would also come in handy for when non finishers walk through the finish funnel multiple times - our finish funnel is really narrow and even though we try and stop this, people still walk through and occasionally get recorded by mistake by the timers messing up the results.

Still glitches on timing

We were hoping the update may solve the problem of the app counting a run time when you initially just want to start the timing. It hasn’t so be aware that you need to do a couple of test runs once in airplane mode to make sure. Hope it hets sorted soon as a nightmare.

Massive bug in timing with volume buttons

If you start the app and then change the volume before starting the timer, tapping the screen to start the time will add additional times. If you then use the volume buttons to log times it will occasional add or no times;
Up -> 1 time logged
Up -> 0 times logged
Down -> 2 times logged
Down -> 1 time logged
Down -> 2 times logged
This can mess up results horribly!

Multiple clicks removal

I’ve timekept a lot of parkruns. The older watches were more tactile and less prone to multiple or accidental clicks than phones.
Given this, I’d ask that a feature is added to allow timekeepers to slide over an accidental entry and remove it. I know the results processor can sort this out in post, but keeping in sync with the tokens and fellow timekeepers is important.
Note that I had emailed parkrun HQ a while back about this and had no response.

Very well designed app

This app is pretty perfect…very simple interface that is appropriate as thousands of people will use it without much training or explanation.
For scanning, it basically doesn’t let you make a mistake of which item to scan first, thereby avoiding errors. Haptic feedback is perfect, and the scanner works very well across different materials…wrinkled paper, screens, rubber wrist bands, etc.
Very well suited to its function

IOS 15 issues

I have an iPhone 11 pro and use the volunteer app without a problem. When timekeeping I start the run and then close the iPhone to prevent mistakes. As the runners finish I open the iPhone and open the app and I use the volume button to record the individual times. I have now updated to IOS 15 and today I was unable to use the app in the usual way. The volume button couldn’t be used to record the times, I was only able to use the touchscreen to input the time. Has anyone else experienced the same issue?

Stop watch / scanner

Stopwatch
Can you add a function to delete any times in case of an accidental taps please
Scanner
If the position barcode does not scan, then the app will not let you scan another runner until a position has been scanned. Can you add a function to allow the runner to be deleted to let the scanner carry on scanning
Love the App 👍👏👏👏

Padding round timer button

I love the parkrun app, really easy to use. However, I was caught out by the new padding round the timer button this morning (11/9/21). I wasn’t aware that quite a significant part of the timer button was no longer receptive to taps, so this caused me to miss several runners. I normally hold my phone in my right hand and use my right thumb to tap the screen, so it naturally falls towards the right hand edge. Now I’m aware of the padding zone, I’ll be more careful to click nearer to the timer button. Maybe the padding zone could be displayed in a different colour?

Issue with volume control when timekeeping

Great app but had a major issue today when timekeeping. There’s a little ding noise for each press of the timer and midway through timekeeping today I decided to increase the volume. This caused a rapid scroll through numbers and recorded 20 extra times!!
Luckily my oppo was on track but my timings were wrecked

Easy to use

Was easy to use and worked well. Would have been perfect if only the position barcode tokens weren’t so scratched and could not be scanned. Suggestion: if the barcode won’t scan, could it be possible to type in the barcode number, ie the position number please?

Multiple scanning of barcodes

I have an Apple iPhone 7 with iOS 14.5 and when testing the Scanner we found that you could scan a barcode more than once and it would then accept any token not necessarily the one related to that barcode. We tried this a number of times and the same thing happened. Not sure if Junior Parkrun had had this problem. This needs to be fixed before Parkrun in the UK re-starts in June

Volume button

Just tried using the app for the first time and found it would try to multiple record if the volume button isn’t fully pressed. It’s quite easy to get 12 positions in one go, I hope they fix that bug before it goes out. Otherwise appears ok but the big test will be in cold and wet conditions.

Wish list:

1. A better, cutting sound for the timer, something more like the WhatsApp ‘ding!’ (or the ability to customise).
2. Not edge-to-edge for the timer buttons. Too much risk of accidental press.
3. A discreet undo button (definitely for timer, could be useful for over-zealous scanner when using back-up sheets).
Thanks.

Drains battery and crashes iPhone

I used the app twice now, once as Timekeeper and once as Barcode Scanner, both with the same outcome. The battery drained very quickly even though I was showing 94% at the start of using it. When I closed the app to go to settings to turn off Airplane mode it crashed my phone (which works without issue at all other times).
Fortunately, connecting my phone to charge eventually lets me back in and all the data is there to submit.
Otherwise, easy to use and particularly like scanning barcodes and being able to see what you’ve done.

Split button

I have used the app for timing for two weeks now and it is great. My only criticism is that the orange area is very large and very sensitive and therefore quite easy to touch accidentally when holding the phone and recording a time you didn’t need.
My suggestion is to reduce the area to a 2 cm ‘button’ thus reducing the risk of an accidental press at your next update.
Hope this helps.

Timer needs to beep.

The scanning is fantastic. I don’t like it for timing though. On my previous phone (iPhone 5s ) I would sometimes get a beeps when taking a time- usually it was silent . Now (iPhone 6) it’s completely silent. Coupled with the reduced tactile feedbsck compared to a traditional stopwatch, it makes it hard to be sure how many times you’ve taken in a rapid cluster.
Non-intuitive functioning of volume button to take a time (might work, might not) is also a problem.

Time keeper

Did time keeping yesterday. Great app. Please could you add haptic feedback, it was cold and I wasn’t sure I’d pressed the split button. Other than that it was an easy to use app

Volume button bug?

Used the app for timing today but there seems to be a bug with the volume buttons.
After timing the first runner crossing the line I tried to increase the volume to hear the ‘click’ however rather than adjusting the volume this action recorded a split. I hadn’t realised that pressing the volume recorded a time. Having discover this I decided to use the volume button instead of pushing the big virtual button on the screen but after two pushes it stopped working.
Experimenting after the event it seems if you start the timer with the volume set half way then you can use the up or down volume buttons to record times.
However if you start the timer with the volume already set at the highest setting you can only use the down volume button continuously to record times. The up volume button will only record once before it stops working
Conversely if you set the volume to the lowest setting (mute) and start the timer you can use the up volume button to record runners times but the down volume button will only work once.
I don’t know if you are supposed to be able to use the volume buttons but this inconsistent behaviour seems like a bug to me.
Tried this on an iPhone XS with iOS 12.3.1 and an iPhone 6s on iOS 12.1

First time user

I used the app for the first time today for timing our event, and within 3 seconds had managed to record the first split time 🤦🏼‍♂️ Overall the app worked well. Results emailed and upload simply. Would be nice if the split button wasn’t so big and for the possibility of deleting a time when the button has been pressed accidentally.

Good but..

Great for scanning but yesterday none of us could export results. It tells you to turn airplane mode off (which we’d done, and could see 4G) but it refused to recognise that so we had to resort to email and manual collation.
Great if you fix that though.

No beeps

A beep as people cross the line is super important.
If it beeps, you can focus your eyes on the approaching runners and runners crossing the line (often one every second). Your ears monitor the beeps, and you notice a ‘double tap’ or missed tap immediately.
If there are no beeps you’re lost. A group of five cross the line at once, did I press it five times? It now reads 674, was it 669 before? There isn’t the time to perform the mental processing whilst altering eye focus between a hand held device and a stream of runners.
Otherwise very good. 😀

Great step in the right direction

Lovely work, great idea and really heading in the right direction.
Once more runs start using this app we can all switch to QR codes and speed up all the scanning and have them tattoo’d to us :-D And I haven’t tried it but I assume NFC support isn’t there either but this could make life super slick after a run or even just while running through the funnel :-O
Hopefully the app will keep growing and it will be a great replacement to the traditional set up.

I’ve identified a flaw in the scanner section of the app

Used the scanner for the first time last week. Used it again today. I forgot to ‘reset’ it first and it kept hold of the scanner results from last week. Still scanned everything okay, but when I exported the data, it would not export any data where there was a second scan for the same position. For example, if I scanned positions 1, 2 and 3 last week, and positions 2, 4 and 5 this week, only the first set of data for position 2 would export. The app still held the data for position 2 this week, but the only way to get the data was to find it and write it down manually. Just something to be aware of if you forget to ‘reset’ before use.
Other than that, I love the scanner section of the app. Have not yet tried the timekeeper section.

Good but needs some tweaks

Love the simplicity of this app.
It’s fabulous for scanning as you can see the details on the screen and I think it’s better then the actual scanners.
It works well as a timer but you can also use the volume buttons to record the splits. This is a problem for anyone who has an iPhone that has the power button on the side as it’s very easy to accidentally knock the volume buttons on the opposite side when turning the phone on and off between starting the run and waiting for the first runner back.
The data export emailing works well and after that it is the same as any normal upload on WebFMS.
