Overpriced, and refused a refund

They refused to provide a refund, despite not using the app as I didn't like it. The same day the payment went out I'd contacted, after already attempting to cancel the subscription. They refused to deal with the refund and stated Apple could only do that. I had almost £60 leave my account. Steer clear. The app itself is overpriced and is buggy, with poor wuality UX. There's tons of meditation apps which are much better and who don't charge insane amounts.

edit: as i can't respond to Endels response : Yes you did refuse a refund, I asked for immediately. probably best not to lie and scam people and then blame it on apple - you've obviously set it so refunds are not possible through apple, as i've never had an issue recieving one before from other apps :). Abuse warning

You want to give a 7 day free trial to someone with ADHD, that automatically charges them a huge sum after 7 days if they forget to cancel. You claim to understand ADHD and suggest you want to help but you are totally willing to take advantage of a vulnerable group of people. If you’re so good, give your free trial and then ask us to take a second action to sign up rather than opt out. I know myself- I won’t remember to cancel if I don’t like it, so I can’t risk it. But I very nearly signed up because I hadn’t noticed it wasn’t free. To me, this makes you scum for taking advantage and trying to trick me- I’ll never know if your product is good because I no longer trust you enough to try it.

Great app, ridiculously irritating to use

Let me get the most important thing out of the way - the actual main functionality of Endel is great. The sounds are way better compared to similar apps and I’ve subscribed without as much as a second thought.

But wow, the user experience is just terrible and unintuitive, and screams “form over function”. There are lots of apps out there that eschew the iOS design principles in favour of some overcustomised nonsense, but Endel has got to be one of the worst offenders. By all means add as many design flourishes as you want (the animations are quite nice!) but keep basic iOS usability.

Just installed on my iPad in addition to my iPhone, and had to go through the whole ridiculous first start wizard all over again instead of just being able to skip. The app is plastered with undismissable “tell your friends” ads despite me being a paying customer. The navigation is really confusing and it’s hard to tell how to get between the different screens in the app, for example there is no standard iOS “Back” button on the now playing screen, instead you need to realise that an “Explore” button in the bottom middle of the screen takes you back. Sometimes there’s a “Done” button in the top right?! The Home Screen has half a dozen subtly different ways of starting music that you need to read a manual to understand (and even then are left confused). The whole energy level thing is distracting and it would be nice if I could just disable it (especially on devices that aren’t moving with me like iPad or Mac).

Again – great app in principle – but please have a serious think about its design.

Can’t open :(

I used to really value this app, particularly for sleep. But for the last few weeks the app was very slow to open and sometimes crashed after displaying the new annoying “lifetime discount” full-screen advert. Now for the last couple of days it crashes as soon as I try to open it. I miss the better sleep and pleasant morning wake-up. I hope it’ll be fixed or I’ll have to cancel my subscription :(

Exceeds expectations

I rarely write reviews, but wow, this platform surpassed my expectations. Streamlined esthetic, a podcast informing members about the science behind it, and the simplicity and smoothness of use is insane!

I had brain FM for over a year, and after switching to Endel, I do not have any regret about having made the change!

Brilliant app

Even after one day of use, I am already noticing considerable improvements in my general mood and quality of sleep. The app is super simple to set up and offers a great user experience that is seamless and convenient to use. The audios that are offered for free are also very good.

Great Product, Annoying Company.

I’ve been using Endel for around 4 years. It’s one of those products that has stuck around and I do enjoy using it for sleep, productivity etc.

That being said, the recent updates to the app have made it go from incredibly simple and lightweight to slow and cumbersome. Not only that I really would appreciate if they stop trying to notify every time I open the app to ‘buy a lifetime subscription’. I’m happy with paying monthly and I don’t care for the endless hassle from ‘see this, do that’. It’s a soundscape app, let’s leave it as that.

I just downloaded Endel yesterday. I found it a little difficult to navigate at first (it’s just me, not the app!) and I’ve been exploring it on the bus to work and back (I’m a flight dispatcher at Edinburgh airport). Suddenly this morning it clicked and it’s all falling into place! I think I’m going to like this particular journey!

great app too much marketing

I enjoyed the paid subscription of the app for a year. However, there is no reason I should be bombarded with ads to get my friends in it if I am a paid member, is there? After a while it became painful as you see it on every screen.

Second feedback, the paid subscription will only give you more options, but I really ended up only using the sleep, move and focus mode, the rest is superflous so you can go with the free version really.

Last, yes it is scientifically proven and it the app price is hefty for what promises and what it actually does and the amount of times it fails to wake me up from power naps....

Cool idea but bad UI

The UI is really confusing, it’s not helped by the fact the sounds fade so gradually when you change the mood I found myself hitting a button 5/6 times thinking it hadn’t worked, the sounds are absolutely fantastic though, but I just found the app to be quite vaugue and not direct enough in terms of know where you were, what you were doing and I think there are too many menus.

Colour theming and a cleaner menu would be a good idea.

Drop the animated visuals, I’m not looking at the device when using the app I’m doing something else, that’ll make it way less cluttered.

I wish I could play my own music

It’s great and all and it works for sleep and all that but the main reason I got this app was for the focus timer. I was quite disappointed when I found out that you can’t play your own music with the focus timer on. I usually work a lot better with music I’m familiar to and music that’s more upbeat. I find it very difficult to stay focused and not get bored if there is very calming and soothing music playing into my ears because I will just get bored and give up. Would be 5 stars if I could play Spotify during the focus timer (unless you actually can do that and I just can’t find it but I don’t think so).

Great, but incredibly expensive and free version lacking

I was really enjoying the free version of Endel, but it seems that the available sounds have been reduced even further today. Previously I was able to listen to Focus, Relax and Sleep, but today only Endel Radio is available. A real shame as I was really enjoying it, but the full version is incredibly expensive and I can’t justify the cost.

Woke me up at 2:30am

I installed this the other day but hadn’t yet opened the app. It just started playing music at 2:30am and woke me and my wife up. Extremely annoying. I’d like to have tried this app but I can’t risk that happening again so I’ve uninstalled it.

Great app and concept

I have generally liked the app, and I really like the concept of uniquely generated soundscapes, which are individualised by so many inputs. However I have discovered that spatial audio is simply not working. Sound only plays in stereo. This has been the case for several months now and is quite annoying.

I love this app and would like to give it 5 stars, however I am annoyed that despite driving numerous downloads and account creations for them, I haven’t had any of them attributed to my account, despite using the share links available in the app.

I love this app, I have been using to sleep every night with a bluetooth sleeping headband and it have noticeably reduced my random wake ups and improved my morning lie in. Starting to use it more during the day but the sleep is where its at, would love more sleep-scape options though!

The albums are better

I was really disappointed by this - overall I don’t think it adds much more than the music albums Endel has released, which are included with Apple Music.

Visually the phone app is fiddly to use - it’s hard to understand which settings change the sound versus change the scenario. E.g. it can get stuck in a state where it thinks you want to “relax” while “fast walking”. 🤷

I found that the musical sounds are too repetitive for most contexts other than work. The nature sounds are very limited and sound synthetic. And to my ears, the “wiggly wisdom” voice is just creepy. 😒

The Apple Watch app is a whole other world of confusing design:

❌ It has a graph, which looks like it should be interactive, but isn’t.

❌ It has a rotating arrow, which looks like a compass but isn’t. (Why couldn’t energy level be represented by a dot that moves along the graph?)

❌ It tries to retrieve data on location and weather, but that doesn’t work. (This is a known longstanding bug.)

❌ The play/pause button is fiddly to use because it doubles as a button to select sounds.

❌ The difference between “companion” and “standalone” modes is confusingly presented because after you select a mode, you press “cancel”, which implies the selection hasn’t been applied.

Overall it’s an interesting concept but I think the Endel albums are much easier to enjoy than the phone and watch apps.

Please fix the Mac app so it works with AirPlay shared speakers

I love Endel, but there are some annoying kinks:

- The Mac App breaks AirPlay as soon as the sound starts, and only supports single AirPlay output

- Background mode, which would be the best for AirPlay doesn't work on AirPlay (if background were available, I could leave Endel playing all day through the speakers...and it would also then be able to sync with headphones)

- The Mac App doesn't have any of the visuals from the iPad, it could sync with homekit for adaptive focus lighting too...sound and lights would enhance this!!

- The Siri shortcuts end up being the same as playlist titles on Apple Music...wouldn't it be simpler if it were 'hey siri, endel focus' of even 'hey siri, start focus'...trying to say Endel to siri to change them ends up with lots of corrections to make!

- The stats are a bit invasive at times, sometimes I really want to just start something in Endel, but the popup that comes up gets in the way...have it there, but let me click on it

You have to wonder if relaxation app designers understand what it means to relax. Being pinged multiple times a day, emailed and whatever else is completely the opposite of help fortunately you can turn most of them off!

Leaving that side the sounds are great and (after getting over the above) I have found them beneficial.

The graphics do nothing for me the Portal app which, ostensibly, does the same thing is far superior. Both are a IMO expensive.

I will update review after 6 weeks and see if the above is still applicable.

Valuable but stop this autoplay please

I think this is a valuable and fascinating app, however I’ve had to delete it because of its bizarre behaviour. Considering I don’t subscribe to it (but was interested) I was confused a couple of weeks ago when I could hear music coming from somewhere in my house. I was busy trying to work, and ended up having to hunt this noise down - it turns out Endel was just loudly playing music, despite my phone being switched to silent, my phone being on the lock screen and face down, and me having not opted in to this or subscribing to the platform at all. It’s just done it again in the middle of a meeting. I wouldn’t mind if it popped up asking “would you like to listen to a live session?” or something.

It’s very odd (but if there’s a way to switch off this random ‘play at any time’ feature I’d be interested in downloading again).

Wonderful app - has helped me immensely

I have inattentive ADHD, and this app has done wonders for my focus. I am so much more productive when I am using Endel, not to mention I feel less anxious and just better mental health wise overall. Highly recommended.

Terrible interface

Great sounds, I use it it all the time for work or ambient home music or sometimes for walks.

But the UI is terrible. There are about 15 circles with random pictures, no labels, so I have to click the circle and see if I guess right. And that goes for many elements on the screen.

The UI is very mysterious. I click on a thing: what will happen? A new music track will play? A new page with info will open? Will a button to close it and go back be on the bottom? On top? Will it be an X icon or should I look for a different button like Done? Will it be a Cancel? Or will it be a back arrow on the bottom?

The UI is a terrible mess. I use the product for so long, and every time I still feel like Indiana Jones exploring an ancient temple full of booby traps.

This is all I listen to now! I don’t use Spotify half as much because I’m using this app to help focus during work and relax in the evening.

I’m honestly taken back by how good this app is, it’s definitely different to other soundscapes I’ve used on Spotify.

I’ve been using the app for free for a week because £70 for a year seemed a lot to me, however they offered around £30 for a year and I think that’s way more reasonable (considering it’s not as vast as Spotify).

Ok app. Dislike the onboarding process. Trial option unticked by default, only available on the £79 annual option. Selecting trial then changing plan, then going back unticks trial again.

Needs to be more accessible.

I was recommended this app by a friend as a focus aid and although the sounds are great I find the app almost unusable. I suspect many potential users will be neurodivergent like myself and share visual processing issues. There needs to be a option to switch it out of the black and white layout and clear labelling. I couldn’t use speech software because of all the pictures instead of text options. I also think that’s there’s a certain irony to an app that’s meant to help focus and relaxation sending you multiple notifications whilst using it. This could be a 5/5 app if you just thought about access over aesthetics.

The soundscapes are great but so many adverts!

I’ve been using Endel for a couple of years and really enjoy the soundscapes. I use them to relax and find many of them well adjusted and calming.

It there are far too many adverts these days. This is not a free product, but I still have to dismiss a promotion share or half price offer every time I start the app—sometimes more than one if I choose the wrong sounds to listen to. I’m going to look for an alternative before my subscription renews again.

Wonderful

Endel is just wonderful. It’s really hard to explain what it is or what it does… I just know it truly works. Every scene within the app is just perfect. The recent “Focus Tune” option is mesmerising… I just pop that on and off I go working, reading or creating. This is the one app I’d give as a gift to every friend and family member.

Needs feedback feature for the auto play sounds

I am still getting acquainted with the app, and I do not find it particularly user friendly, sorry. There are all sorts of buttons, and if you accidentally press some of them it takes you through a set up cycle you just can’t cancel, which is really annoying if you want just quickly change something. The auto play idea is very good, but it needs some sort of feedback function, which would allow you to skip sounds you don’t like and the app will then remember your settings. When I started the auto play today for the first time it had some weird pulsing sound, which made me want to vomit, I found the frequency of the pulsations coupled with the weird plucking quality of the sound really revolting and unbearable. I attempted to quickly change the sound or somehow tune it to get rid of this, but the whole app had frozen and the only thing I could do is to close it and reopen and try again. I do like the app and most of the sounds I found really calming, but the above combination really had an awful effect on me, I am a bit worried it will activate again somehow.

Refusing refund when not satisfied

I am completely dissatisfied with this app and the service I received. The money to extend from the trial to the subscription came out on the day that the trial ended which means I did not receive the full week to see if I liked it. Turns out I didn’t, it’s not that great for £49 a year. They have refused to refund me even a after I questioned it. I understand there are free trial agreements to abide by when cancelling (normally 48 hours before end? Which means you actually get five days?) but I imagine this comes under distance selling, so I should have 14 days and you need to give me a refund without me even needing a reason. Life is hard for everyone right now, can’t you be decent and help me pay my gas bill this month instead of punishing me for not cancelling EARLY?!

Developers hide objective reviews

I have really tried to enjoy this app. I love the soothing music tones, and it has really helped me improve my sleep however where I get really stuck. What I really pay for in this app is the Ultradian rhythm guide. The app itself is supposed to provide you with a chart that progresses throughout the day. Firstly, this info is hidden deeply in the app. Next there are widgets that provide you with an at a glance view of where your rhythm currently is. But the widgets are always ALWAYS out of sync! Which messes you up. Should I be resting or going for it!? It has a Mac app. Great…guide charts are also out of sync. The complications on your Apple Watch are also out of sync. I also happen to notice that the Apple Watch is supposed to have a progress bar, but that progress bar seldom works, it only appears to work when you switch watch faces. I was happy to pay for the service, but with the frustrations of trying to fully use the app and having the guide not be more prominent, widgets not syncing. For these reasons, it makes me really reluctant to pay for the app again.

It just works!!

I can honestly say I've had some success with this app. I've used it to go to sleep when all I can think about is work and things to do prior to sleep.

It's probably my own fault for working late and not giving enough time to clear my head before bed, but this app helped. It seems quite simple but watching the moving images, with their the moving shapes and music, has helped me.

Charged for a free trial

UPDATED BASED ON RESPONSE: I did pick the trial week. I’m very capable of reading. Also most subscription apps have the same model, I’ve never had an issue. Only this one.

I heard good things so I downloaded and signed up for the 7 day free trial to check it out. Didn’t actually get to try the app. They charged my account the moment I signed up for the trial, instead of after 7 days as advertised. So I had to waste time googling how to claim a refund and writing out a claim to the App Store. Didn’t really feel so calm and relaxed after that. In fact I felt more stressed than I did before signing up! I’ve since received my refund. That made me feel calmer. I’ve also deleted the app, that made me feel relaxed. Just can’t trust a company that plays with money like that.

Honestly Pretty Useful

This app has been honestly so amazing for a variety of reasons, even on the free tier, even to the point where i’m considering subscribing. I find the reviews about the app not generating truly unique soundscapes a bit unjust, as it’s unrealistic to expect the app to truly personalise soundscapes for you, especially when you need all of them to be just as effective as eachother. Having soundscapes that adjust based on as many variables as it currently does works just fine. However, one change Id like to see is a much more prominent ending sound for scenarios such as Power Nap, which is sadly very easy to oversleep with. Thanks for the app, it has been invaluable and I see myself throwing money your way soon.

Great potential

App seems very slick, was happy with idea of subscription since ads in something like this would rather defeat the point! Also, very happy to support developers who make an interesting and usable product :)

However, the app would not work in standalone mode on a series 4 watch which, whilst a nuisance, isn’t necessarily a show-stopper. What is a show-stopper for an app with a nearly £50 per year sub is a complete absence of response to a support request about the issue. I still get marketing emails, however…

Sorry guys, great app, but cannot justify subscription when support requests go unanswered. But good luck with the app, it was great when it did work!

Renewal sent me to overdraft

When I first subscribed to this app it was aroubd 24£. I really enjoyed it even if I didn’t use it super much.

This morning I received a notification from my bank stating I had gone in overdraft. I found out the iTunes receipt for 48£. I panicked and thought I got hacked or something. I don’t remember Endel saying anywhere that they were raising the prices so much. Had to move money to my account to avoid paying overdraft charges and have requested a refund. I love Endel and understand it must be expensive to develop, but the amount their asking, especially in this time of the year is absurdly high. I’m sorry but my journey with Endel stops here, I can’t afford su much money for an app subscription in this economy 😞

Miss Mouse

I just adore using this app, while still learning to sync soundscapes to my activities!

However, I’ve been all ‘round the houses trying to add ‘Deep Focus’ — I sampled it — & like the music & graphic— but cannot download: I’m in the UK, & don’t have WIFI at home — just a rented SIM.

I went for Premium, which I love, but maybe I’m not Techie enough to employ the xtras, which I’m sure there will be more of.....

Love the app as it stands, though! 🙏🏻

Unique and truly effective

I initially downloaded this app to help me concentrate when working from home - I am a copywriter so find it difficult to listen to words when I am working, but silence doesn’t help either. Endel creates the perfect sounds to help me focus but also feel calm and centered. I find I now use for more and more things, like helping with household tasks or to focus when I am reading. Using Endel makes me so happy and I cant imagine my life without it!

Great app for soundscapes

A 7 day trial is not enough to experience endel app. I had trouble sleeping since the lock down and my usual methods of drinking sleeping tea and trying to get to bed earlier stopped working. During my free trial, I made extensive use of sleep mode to help with sleep and in the 30 minute timer mode, I ended up asleep. I initially had teething problems with the standalone watch app as it emitted no sound to my wireless earphones. The helpdesk responded quickly and a new update was done quickly to fix the bug. Continued to buy a lifetime subscription. Only negative is I find it plays the same soundtrack and would prefer it be randomised.

Don’t see what is personalised here

The sounds are ok. No change when I was running on treadmill vs when I was writing emails vs when I was sleeping. So don’t see what the smartness or algorithm it is the developers talk about. Also thought I’ll subscribe for a year but the so called 50% off for new users is literally if you subscribe in 24h. How on earth do they expect their app to be tried and subscribed in 24h when clearly for nearly a week the app or algorithm is incapable of doing anything smart with my listening or routines?!

Extraordinary

After two weeks using it I find myself strongly addicted to this app , considering the fact I tried everything for my insomnia starting on herbal remedies ending on zopliclone , I can truly say I a life saver !!! Saying I’m addicted I mean I can’t fall asleep without this app , the sounds makes me fall asleep after literally minutes , when previously I couldn’t sleep till 3am 4 am , I have no idea what they do with it but I can state it works for me and my medically confirmed sleeping problems. Sadly it’s bit too expensive for me so I’m not sure how long I can have it , but surely it changed my life all around and from this place I would like to say a BIG thank you to the creators and developers of this miracle.

Cannot heart rate data

Thank you for your beautiful app. It sounds so attractive that the app can play me the noise according to my current health information. I just downloaded it today, and got an issue when use it.

I am running the Endel on my Iphone Xs Max with ios 14.2, which is connected to my Apple Watch Series 6 with wach os 7.1.

It seems like the app cannot get my heart rate data. The app on my iPhone shows that data is not available, and the app on my watch shows that ’wait for data’. I have allowed all the permissions required including the health data.

Could you please let me know how to fix this issue, or it is a known bug and will be fixed by update in the future? Thank you.

Magical and effective

Congratulations on creating something unique and beautiful. At first it may seem too pared down to offer much but this is the sheer joy of this app. It isn’t cluttered, or trying to be all things to all people. The soundscapes are so healing, the visuals peaceful and delightful and the basic concept of tying into the Earth’s rhythms is very grounding and effective. I speak as someone with anxiety and chronic pain and whilst a host of tools are necessary to keep on keeping on I would hate not to have this app as part of them. All the best Endel team, I’m excited for what more you have planned!

Amazing but too expensive

I loved this app, I had it for 4 days before I deleted it. I would have lived to keep this app but it’s just far too expensive for what it actually offers, if you want a life time subscription it costs over £80, which is just so far beyond reasonable it’s nearly insulting. I really wished I could have kept this app, but I just can’t afford to pay such a high price for what is essentially a few different songs to play to help you sleep.

Another reason I wouldnt buy it even if I could afford it, is due to the fact I only use 1 of the few songs it actually has anyway, so I’d essentially be paying monthly for a single song.

I wish this was more affordable, or maybe even offered deals where you could buy access to a single one of the options for a reduced price, if it was offered like that I might have considered it, but sadly with the cost it is currently, it’s I’d far too much for me to part with for what this app offers.

Confused

I downloaded the app and quite like the function. My issue is that I am unsure if I have accidentally subscribed to something that will now charge me. It’s not clear at all. On the main screen it states I can get 50% discount but I am certain I haven’t bought anything here. I have the app sounds etc but will be extremely angry if I get an unexpected bill. I have checked subscriptions on my phone and there is nothing there. The makers really have to make this more clear as I am still unsure if I am going to get billed for downloading this app. Their help centre is very poor too for someone trying to figure out how the payments work. I simply downloaded the app and listened to it a while, I didn’t confirm a purchase or anything, very very confusing. If I do get charged I will be complaining

Better for me than Apple Music

Was initially very dubious even after my extended trial! I get bored in the end with most music but something about the randomness of my listening experience with Endel just clicked for me to do a lifetime subscription. It like a subtle mood lift and a feeling of being just a little bit happier and content whilst listening. A background experience that doesn’t get in the way of what I’m doing or become irritating. The icing on the cake was the collaboration with Grimes, this is just the best and I’m quite disappointed the Grimes AI is only around for 8 weeks.

Steep price but if it works for you.

I might have been unlucky with my usage but the sounds did all seem the same. I think my week trial was mostly the same weather or I used it mostly after my watch was charging for the night hard to tell. If it helps you noticeably and your using it more often through the day then it may be worth the price, maybe.

Seems like many others have the same feelings that it’s a great app for what it is but the prices are way too high. £5 a month, £49 for a year or £90 for a lifetime which is basically the purchase price when you think about it is far too much for what the app offers. Had it been a £10 purchase it might have been fine for me £5 and I probably wouldn’t have hesitated. Sonus island has full unlock for £4 so the subscription thing is not needed in my opinion. Apple may have allowed this practice to start but it’s gone beyond what it was for originally and has turned me away from so many good apps.

Horrible App. Feel Conned!

I have NO idea whether I’m on a ‘free’ trial with this app or not. I’m assuming I am as I’m now able to review it.

You are slowly lured into the app, thinking... one more tap and I’ll get to see what this app is all about... then BOOM!

You’re caught. So I THINK I must be in the free trial, trouble is, it doesn’t show up, using the apps instructions, the ability to cancel the trial or STOP PAID subscription.

So it looks like regardless of whether you delete the app (which I did) then reinstalled to see HOW TO STOP AUTOMATIC RENEWAL... there is NO WAY to stop it charging you.

So rather than HELP (with PTSD) this app has added to mine.

It tells you if you press ‘X’ you are agreeing to the ‘free’ trial but at the same time you can’t go back and undo anything you can only go ‘forward’ and are FORCED to commit to the trial because the only way you can close the set-up page is to click on the ‘X’

Then as you are frantically trying to figure out how to stop any paid subscription. The hellish supposedly relaxing ‘wail’ of the app starts (and won’t stop even if you switch apps).

They should offer more to justify the charge

I appreciate that the price comes down to only 2 pounds a month, but I still don’t see a point in paying for a service that you can get for free.

Also, you get more variety by using streaming services. With this you’re stuck with a very limited number of sounds.

I think they should offer more functionality on the app for it to be worth a subscription fee.

That said, I really like the design of the app’s interface. That’s why I’m giving it 2 stars.

I’m just not sure

So I’ve subscribed, but I’m not sure that was a wise decision. My first gripe is that I seem to not be able to run the app on both my iPhone and iPad. I’m not sure if every app offers the option of syncing between devices, but certainly every app I have used and come across does offer this basic feature. The way I move between my devices, this is more often than not a deal breaker for me. Also, on my iPhone app, I seem to not have an option of logging in using iOS.

As for the ultradian rhythm, I can’t seem to find any info. on what actually the science is behind this, and how these rhythms are estimated by the app. In fact I’m a little bemused as to the whole science behind the app, and what actually sets it apart (that would be noticeable to me).

At the moment, the app seems to function for me as a simple noise generator (albeit quite a nice cosmic noise) which doesn’t justify the price.

Peak Subscriptions.

I’m rating 4 stars, as I actually really love the app. I’d be happy paying a decent amount for it, but I don’t understand why it’s on subscription. It’s another example of an app where a time ago there would’ve been an initial purchase, perhaps the option to buy new features or soundscapes as they are added, and it would be enjoyable, however the idea of paying a monthly or yearly fee has me baffled - why must we “subscribe” to every app now?! Very frustrating as I’d love to buy the app as is but there’s a limit to how much extra enjoyment and functionality can be justified by charging subscription fees, and at such a high price point.

Nice but misses the mark

I’m new to the idea of using mindfulness, but know what it is and how it’s supposed to help with mental wellbeing. So I was looking for an app to help me get on board and saw Endel as a featured app within the Health category. It was among a few apps I’ve tried to as my self imposed introduction and I’ve found that while Endel is a beautiful app in its own right, it just doesn’t offer a great deal.

Endel uses music as aides the help you relax, sleep or focus. It’s nothing new but the music itself surprisingly well executed. My main argument against the app though is that the music — which is what you’re paying for — is no different than what you can find through various record labels such as Kranky and some of their artists such as Loscil and Stars of the Lid.

When I realised how familiar the sounds are, the thought of paying a subscription made me raise an eyebrow and just switch to a streaming services that I’m paying for anyway. It might be worth a flat fee, but not a subscription when you can find the practically the same content else where at a more cost-effective price.

Great focus and relaxation tool!

I was dubious at first that it could help as much as it claimed, but I can’t live without it now. I used to find listening to music distracting when I was working but with Endel I almost forgot its there, but that’s only because I get some focused and zoned into my work......which is exactly what I need from it. Then at the end of the day the relax setting helps to unwind. Keep it up Endel!!!

A stand out!

An instant subscribe from me, a beautiful interface with tons of potential, also the integration with the Apple Watch is a big bonus, a scientific approach is the apps USP; many other apps focus on standard soundscapes these adapt to you depending on certain conditions, including your heart rate.

I am holding out for a meditation mode with a breathing function, I think the meditation aspect could be a game changer in the huge arena of existing meditation apps. I would suggest tapping into the binaural beats aspect with certain sound wave frequencies to somehow integrate into these modes perhaps even ‘sub mode’ as an add on, it’s a widely untapped area that could be pioneered here... I look forward to enjoying the soothing sounds unsullied by crashing waves and electric fans but something that feels more personal and ethereal to me. Well done! Looking forward to the future developments!

Really love this app, started using it to fall asleep almost every night and it really works. Love how simple it is and the black design.

However I don’t actually understand what the interface is for, or what the random sounds are when you tap the screen? I also have experienced a sort of alarm-type twinkling sound that has woken me up a couple of times, but I don’t know what it is. Can you enlighten me?

Fantastic app

Updating my original review to 5 stars. I was originally hesitant on the subscription price but after using it for the past few weeks can see that it offers great value. I use it multiple times across the day! It’s also great for Yoga practices and breathing exercises. The design of the app is sleek and minimalistic. My only gripe is that the Alexa skill currently doesn’t work on my Sonos Ones. Also it would be good to lose the blurb every time you start the skill, would much rather it just start playing :)

Nicely presented app with beautiful sounds, but hesitant about it the payment model

The app looks elegant but I haven’t yet quite grasped the pull in it beyond “it plays nice random sounds” after using it for a few days during the trial. My yearly meditation app subscription is less than Endel with so much more content for relaxation and sleep so it’s not easy to justify starting a sub for another relaxation app with so few features. I’ll keep Endel in mind and check back in a couple of months.

I’d like to see different chord sound options for tapping and dragging your finger on the screen, such as the Japanese koto and the shakuhachi. An Apple Watch app for controlling the types of sounds and the tapping feature would be fun to see as well.

Change in sleep mode sound ?

I have been a huge fan of the app for months , especially the sleep mode , however in a recent update the sound played seems to have changed from the typical relaxing chime to what now just sounds like the same sound played on repeat ( sounds a bit like wind ) Was this a change in an update or a changed sound due to an external factor IE weather etc. Please let me know as i enjoyed that sound more than the current. Also if possible i would suggest that for future improvements to potentially have different sounds to select from. Response would be appreciated.

It won’t let me use the app.

I love this app so so much, it’s amazing for relaxing and calming yourself down when you’re up tight. For some reason, when I go onto the app, it says that my trial has ended(I have never had a free trial) and there is no option to cancel so I can’t use the app.

I even checked my subscriptions in settings and there is no sign of any trial either.

A clever mix of all sorts soothing sounds

This is the best app I’ve used that creates relaxing or soothing soundscapes by far. I’m really enjoying the relax, focus, sleep, and Christmas modes! Definitely one of my favourite apps!

The new Christmas mode is very cleaver by the way, nice and subtle!

This app probably isn’t going to suit everybody’s tastes, so I recommend trying it out before deciding if you like the concept.

Interesting app but…

As soon as I had configured the app but not used it a window opened with a 50% discount—stating this offer would not be available again. I’ve used the app yet—so how can I decide if I wanted to subscribe to it? I like the app but I’m not sure how the features like location, health, sleep would benefit me since I disabled everything. I don’t have an Apple Watch, I don’t want to use location tracking and I never sleep with any kind of device. A simple sound generator for working and relaxing is all I need.

Life changing!

This app is amazing! As a university student, I have to stay focused when writing essays, which is something I really struggle with. Focus mode on this app has replaced my ‘chill’ playlists and other things I used to listen to. The sounds are so unique and somehow work brilliantly. Also, whenever I am struggling to get to sleep I put the app on sleep mode and set a timer and it helps me drift off with ease. I now don’t know what I’d do without this app!
