As a victim of an illegal and immoral expropriation of all my business and personal assets by the Mauritius government in 2015. I initiated an international arbitration case against that government. The tribunal finally ruled it was incompetent to deal with the case.
I made a request to Brussels to set aside the ruling. I am waiting for March 2020 for the final ruling. Academia has helped me understand the arbitral implications when a case like mine relating to treaties between two states. In my case I am a national of both countries. My case is well documented. CAR refers to the story.
There are still quite a number of States evading settling Arbitrations sentences against them. Mauritius is in the middle of such a case of refusal to pay the winning party. Arbitration was held in Singapore. Betamax/Mauritius.

App not functioning at all for me
Nothing downloads and i tried signing out and now i cannot sign back in ...what a disaster - i should not have paid anything - it worked fine from emails i received.

The app doesn’t work properly.
Papers don’t open correctly, so there are words layered on top of words and graphs on top of words. It’s a bloody mess

Free access to academic papers
Academia gives me free access to a range of research papers and allows me to store them in one place. It’s great that such information should be widely available to all.

The app did not let me log in at all to my account. I had to reset my password many times and it still was unable to log me in. Very disappointed.

For a subscription-based service, the app is very poor. Very slow and unreliable, seemingly just a skin for the (also slow) web version.

This app has a very poor such engine and the app keeps crashing. It is not fit for purpose.

Really good
I really enjoy reading many articles about subjects which I am fond of. The full membership is incredibly expensive for the year. That’s a real upset for me and therefore the amount of articles I can access have been reduced. However I am grateful for this app. Also you do need to have access to WiFi to read articles.

What are they playing at?
It suddenly stops working. Totally and completely. Nobody says why. Perhaps because you have failed to succumb to pressure to go for premium services. You ask the question. No one answers. All the while, the mails inciting upgrades are flooding in. I’ve had to mark them as spam.
People, this is not the way to treat elderly visiting professors. I was glad to have access to the articles before I was switched off, but they are all available anyway!

Search doesn’t work
I tried searching for my own name in”all papers”, to see if anyone had cited me. I got one hit, despite having uploaded a dozen papers to my profile (none of them showed up in the search). This rather suggests that the search function is entirely useless, so what use is the app?

Good, but limited functionality
Whilst this app allows you to read papers and check out other academics, one cannot read the recommendations / reviews (which underlie paper rank), nor can one access one’s analytics. Simply accessing the website, even on an iPhone, still offers more functionality. It’s a good first step though, as I hope this app will improve as upgrades are rolled out.
