Impossible to login. Just spins for days. Tried reinstalling the app to no avail. Can you imagine being on holiday and not being able to access your money. Avoid this app and use cash - it works. Tried again months later. Same as earlier just spins. Useless app.

Received an email to update my policy. Once again the login screen says logging in but never does. They obviously don’t want my money so I’ll look elsewhere. 🤷‍♂️

The post office cards really work well and have been a great help on our travels through Australia, so 5 star for the cards. However, the app is a real pain in the backside. If you manage to get it to load it will be telling you the wrong balance, but more often than not, while trying to load your card details, it will tell you “system down”. It’s very frustrating, so 0 stars for the app. 3 stars overall when you consider how useful the cards are.

I have had and used this Post Office Travel Card for the last eight years with no issues whatsoever, it expired earlier this year and a replacement arrived in good time for this year’s use. I did have a little hiccup with the first login online for the first use but very soon sorted out and hay presto of and running again, brilliant.
I did have a lot of issues with another company travel card whereby EVERY TIME I tried to login on the app or online it wouldn’t recognise me and had to reset password wasted six and a half hours, still getting no results so cancel the subscription 😡.

I loaded up a travel card before holidaying recently and added it to my Apple Pay. Paid for everything with it and was able to keep an eye on my remaining balance with the app. Also topped up the travel card quickly and easily when I needed to through the app without any fuss. Only slight issue is that every 24h or so, the app would “forget” my card (which didn’t affect Apple Pay - I could still pay for things) and I had to re-link it go see my balance again. That only takes a couple of seconds though so wasn’t too much of an issue. Overall, really useful and reassuring throughout the holiday.

Good when it’s accepted but as a UK citizen travelling in the USA I’ve found it’s only accepted in 50% of places. Plenty of fuel stations, bars and restaurants don’t accept it. I’ve been stuck on a number of occasions looking for alternate payment methods when card payment machines don’t recognise the PO card. It’s embarrassing, inconvenient and extremely annoying.
Do not put all your eggs in one basket with this card.

It’s a good app and travel card as it is easy to transfer money between different currencies.
However, there are a limited number of currencies available compared to other travel card companies (so not great for frequent travelers).
My biggest gripe is how difficult it is to find the PIN code in the app.
Also if I want to change the pin, I have to go to a cash machine to change it - which is not an easy task with the significant reduction in cash points.

Just download travel app and added travel card to it , is there a fault with the card activity when not connected to a Wi-Fi ?? When connected to a Wi-Fi everything works fine but when not connected to a Wi-Fi the card activity says “service not available yet please try again later “ but when connect to Wi-Fi it works fine ?? I am on holiday and have tried to top up my card multiple times, only to be told by the app that there is a problem with my card. My bank informed me there is no problem (which is definitely the case as I am now having to use my bank card). Spoke to 5 people in customer service, who basically washed their hands of me and said it’s my bank. I tried to top up with two other cards, belonging to different people with different banks, and apparently their banks have problems as well… Tried via the website - no luck. I am now having to pay with my bank card, and incur fees for this, as there is no local bureau de change. Furious. Avoid!

Every time I try to load my card the app freezes during processing the payment, says error 3002 and goes back to Home Screen, or just stays stuck on the loading symbol. Works well in combination with the simple idea of a stored value card for multiple currencies. Getting a PIN reminder in app is easy. Have not used the card via Apple Pay yet, but nice to see this feature added for additional security and maybe I won’t need the PIN reminder so often.
It’s a little counterintuitive to have to select “view card activity” if you want to top up your card with a new currency.

I downloaded app , submitted my details , and then verified my address etc , easy , then I received my card to my verified address, activated my card , then went to top up “it’s easy walk into your local post office it says “ errr no not easy , I was questioned quizzed asked for I’d and utility bills , although it says on app and on leaflets ! I don’t have to on any transactions of 5k or under so I wasted one and half hours and other queuing peoples time and walked home angry ! Phoned customer services , and wasted another 40 mins although they said I was right and there’s no criteria for I’d ! But go to main post office where they are better trained , so I did and hit the same thing , and had to go to my bank and get a statement etc ! Basically half a day wasted! I recommend smuggling currency or using any other thing rather than the
ROYAL FAIL so angry

I loaded the card at the post office prior to my holiday. Every time I try to top up the card I get an error that says can’t process payment. I called customer support and as told, the payment processing doesn’t work on the app, you have to top up on the website… so what is the point of the app then? Worthless if you can’t top it up on the app, my advice, don’t bother, use another card, or make sure you load enough at the post office when you get the card to last your entire trip. Edit- just went to the website and get the same error message with three different bank cards, ‘something went wrong please try again’ called customer support again who said my banks had declined payment, called my UK and US banks who both said they had received no authorisations and had not declined any payments…. ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS CARD!

Difficult to get money back from the card

I have over £1,500 worth of USD to give back to my employer that I didn't use on a business trip. Getting this back in any actual usable way is next to impossible. I can withdraw sterling from an ATM. Great. I need to make 5 trips because the daily limit is £300 and pay a £1.50 fee each time. Then once I have all of these notes, I need to then find a branch of my bank and pay the cash in to transfer back to my employer. Why did I not get refunded onto my debit card like your FAQs suggest I can?
Never using this again for business.
Will try Soldo next time.

The app it self is very good and easy to use however the multi currency card is a different matter. It would not let me top up with a debit card which cost me nearly £50 ringing the uk to try and sort this where I was told it would be investigated and they would get back to me which they never did it then cost me £25 every time I needed to top up using the credit card which is the only payment card it would except. In total using this card has cost me over £100 I would not recommend the multi currency card from the post office

I was hesitant to write a review straight away as I wanted to use it for a little while to see if there’s any issues, how user friendly it is, and also if I could offer any feedback.
Me and my wife are THRILLED with it. We go travelling quite a lot and we’ve never had any issues at all with. The APP is quite slow if it’s not on 4G but that’s our only negative.
It’s made us feel way more safe not having cash on us and also with the current climate with Covid it’s SO handy.

The app is very straight forward.
The only downside is that you can’t transfer currency once you’ve bought it but the app is very easy to use and the conversion rate is always better than exchanging it over the counter at a bureau de change.
It’s saves you carrying around lots of cash which I’m not always keen on doing as I stop in hostels a lot so you never know who might have a rummage through your things.

I love the travel card and now with the updated one you can transfer between currencies is great.
I do think they could work on their rates- I have a Spanish bank account and we transfer money into it and the rates are always so much better. I keep money on this card just for emergencies or if we travel through France. I think it should be like a loyalty rate for having the card.

A friend of mine told me about the travel
money card but did not mention how good the accompanying app is. Once we can get back to travelling I honestly believe this app will be one I use regularly. I use Euros and US Dollars more than any other currency and was glad to know that I could load more than one of these onto the card and the app makes this so simple.
I also like that it give you live exchange rates and offers holiday extras. Like I stated as the title of this review, this will be a new travel essential for me. Thank you Post Office.

Moved to South Africa for work for a year - totally didn’t think ahead regarding admin fees on each transaction on my uk cards.
This was easy to set up, delivered to the UK in two days, had it shipped here. Works like a dream and is a huge piece of mind. I don’t have to carry my whole wallet now etc etc.
Just make sure you keep checking the exchange rates - the card is pretty in comparison to others. I’m sure there are better perks/deals out there but I trust the brand and it’s just so straight forward

I have had this app and the post office card for just over 2 years and it is brilliant for those who travel regularly. I have visited numerous countries and some even last minute where I have gone from one country I was visiting and decided last minute I would visit a near by country, I did not have their currency however this app saved me as I was able to quickly and efficiently change currencies on the same day and then back again when I went back to the other country! It is very simple to use and is a travelers must!

A good app made even better with new features. Now able to do a lot more with this app! Can use touch i.d. to log in which gives great security (and saves putting in e-mail & password). Occasionally get currency sale at a better than normal rate which I use to top up card. (Could be better if the minimum amount to spend was lower which is the reason I tend to top up when a more competitive rate applies)!

I have two cards, and downloaded the app for convenience in checking balances and transactions whilst out and about, instead of waiting to log in on a PC at home.
I couldn’t access the transactions for both cards, and I spoke with the Customer Service department. I received a follow up email and update regarding the issue, and following further contact today from Customer Service and the app developers I am very pleased to say that I can now access both cards’ transactions! I’m very impressed and grateful for the contact - getting in touch via email and through the App Store to notify me of the fix. Excellent customer service and a very big thank you! 😀😀😀 If only all organisations did this - many thanks to the team and best wishes!

App is great, easy to use and top up and the card avoids paying those pesky foreign transaction fees which was the main reason we got one.
But there’s obviously a catch. I’ve found the card to have significantly lower exchange rates compared to getting cash, at least in the UK. We recently got 1.19 Swiss Francs to the Pound on the card but got 1.27 on the high street at home. Was a similar difference to the Euro rate.
Also we found that in France the card is not accepted in all places, for example some petrol stations. However it always works for French toll booths.

The actual card and app when it works is great. Using the card and withdrawing in different countries is really easy. However the app takes ages to load regardless of WiFi or data strength. Sometimes it’ll sit on the ‘loading’ page for 3/4 minutes before opening, sometimes it doesn’t even open. Makes it a nightmare for topping up and checking my balance, sometimes I have to risk it when using it to pay because I can’t check how much money I have on it! None of the updates have fixed this yet and I’ve had the card for over a year and this has been a constant problem, definitely needs fixing asap!

We have found this travel card and app very good. Very easy to use in terms of checking balance, topping up the card etc. Also very pleased to not be paying the bank charges for using my card abroad each time, we’ve always carried cash before so this feels much safer. Easy to use, can transfer money in quickly, transfer to different currencies instantly, see your transactions etc. It will even transfer any available funds from your GBP account to another currency if you accidentally spend a bit too much, saving you the frustration and embarrassment of having your card refused (as long as you have some GBP reserves, which may be useful to have!).

Now, the post office application has been very useful, as one can top up money whilst travelling as well as check ones balance on the travel money card.
In conclusion, lastly, I found the travel money card particularly useful on 16th November 2019, evening time as one can search for useful tips and questions that one maybe concerned about before travelling, during and after travel, and for me, I found this application extremely useful, as there was information I needed to know before my travel, such as the currency of the country I am travelling to, and where to obtain the currency of the country I am travelling to shortly.
Moreover, I thank the developers for making this useful, and appropriate travel application as I believe it is a safe as well as secure method of travelling with money, to the country of ones choice instead of carrying loads of cash around in different currencies, and risking theft issues or lost issues. Also, I found the help and advice section on the website useful, as I had forgotten my PIN number as I never used my travel money card for a while, and I was able to call up a number from the travel money website, and follow the on phone instructions to retrieve my PIN number once again. Next, thank you developers for making this travel application once again.

Got a travel money card against my better judgement

Something seriously wrong with the app. Very slow - completely superfluous animations - DOES NO REFRESH TOTALS - and worst of all it showed my PIN as a number from a previous card. Something seriously wrong there. This absolutely should not happen.
Then the rates are poor - especially if you want your money back. Best bet is to use a MONZO card. Cheaper in the long run.
Finally - in NZ you get charged an extra 2 or 3% for using it because it’s classed as a credit card and it won’t work in unattended petrol stations - we were told it’s classed as a gift card and you can’t buy fuel with a gift card. We went to a BP garage and it would not work there at the pump - but at least they had a kiosk - many fuel stations are unattended. I’ve had issues with a previous card and said never again. Even taking money out of an ATM they want to charge you. So this time when I say never again I mean it.
I should have bought my MONZO card with me.

I am currently travelling and using this app and the card with it has been very easy and incredibly useful. The update speed on balances is ideal and means you’re able to stay on top of your money. I am also on a trip involving multiple countries and being able to transfer balances to a new currency is great too.
However, all too frequently, the app gives back a message that the service is not available. This is very stressful when you’re relying on the app to supply you with the means to pay for e.g fuel to drive around in a foreign country or a means to find food or a hotel room. The app needs to be rock solid - I accept that down times will occur for improvements and so on - but over the last week it’s just too unreliable for me to totally trust the app.

I am winding down using this product as there are other products which are much better value.
I lose two ways with the PO card. Firstly the exchange rates are poor, as bad or worse than for cash € in UK and worse, you get charged for cash withdrawals despite the already paid for disadvantaged exchange rates. At least allowing 200€ a month without a fee would put PO in line with other carriers.
My suggestion is stick to your bank or get a Revolut card which at the moment offers interbank exchange rates (as good as it can be) and on their free account, 200€ per month for no penalty.
The PO need to have a think and in the meantime I’ll use other, better for me, products.

Addendum: the post office reply is totally unconnected from my sentiments. This probably sums up and justifies the criticism if that’s as good as they are in comprehending issues! 1star now I fear.

We usually change up our £s before a holiday, but after being robbed on the first night of our last holiday, and mainly cash (and iPhones etc) being stolen I asked about this type of card at the post office. It’s ideal, transferred some money into it when I opened the card and have just transferred some more while abroad, perfect. Very easy, wouldn’t hesitate to recommend, feels much safer.

Download the new app as I have used this card multiple times on trips to the USA and I love it. New look easy to use, simple navigation, clear messaging and sign posting. Fabulous. Only downside and not one even helpful Post Office staff can explain is the rate difference between ordering cash online for delivery to store versus downloading in the app. It’s a difference of over £60 for me! I really don’t want to carry the cash and use the card but thinking it may need to be cash. Come on sort this out!

Took my family to Europe for a fortnight, this app was a really easy way to track currencies and spend. The accompanying physical card also works in contactless mode, and top-ups from the U.K. were straightforward. It’s great because there’s nothing to comment on: UI is clear, nothing is over-complicated, no crashes or glitches using it abroad.
Will be using the app and service again 👍🏻

I haven’t used a money card before but this seems like the ideal thing to do, especially for a longer trip. I got mine in the main branch in Bath - had great advice, friendly service and was so easy to set up. Using the app at home and registering the card also very easy. Had this for two holidays now and like the simplicity of a full feature debit card to pay with some safety in hand.
Only thing I find annoying is the minimum transfer of £50 which can be a disadvantage. Otherwise, both the chip and pin and contactless payments worked fine in both Poland and Italy. ATM’s recognised the card without problem.
A good system to safeguard holiday money!

Local main clearing bank closed its branch. Called into the post office for some euro as the rate was in line and it was convenient accessible and handy and I was in a hurry. The staff were friendly, practical, product knowledgeable and the advice, service and overall helpfulness was first rate. I’m currently overseas and have used my card without problem; I have topped up using the app, again with no apparent problem. I don’t have the worry of carrying a lot of cash or suffering retailer ripoff rate charges. So overall a great service. Thank you Post Office, Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire.
PS. I’m an older less tech savvy person so I would recommend this travel aide to all ages.

I first got this card and app two years ago and had a lot of difficulty with it locking and cancelling transactions. However these teething problems seem to have been resolved and it’s now an easier system to use. I’ve used four currencies so far and they have been fine.
I also think it would be a help to have a tracker in pounds as well as the info on the currency just bought. Let’s hope that’s the next update/version.

Opened and got pin quickly. Changed pin to my own. Opened the app on i pad for when in USA. No problem using it in restaurants or shops but some places only needed a swipe - not the PIN number so you have to put your trust in the waitress! The app updates the purchases almost immediately so you can keep track of spending.
Loving it! Think the exchange rate is good too. All my friends use it and recommended it. Ive just topped it up without any problems.

When first used this app was very useful, although slow and cumbersome. Recently my mobile app has ceased to work and despite several calls to the Post Office (?), they have not resolved the issue, although promise an update. Quite frankly without use of the mobile app, this app is useless as you cannot see what funds are on the card nor top up the funds without having access to wifi to access the Post Office website. Strangely the access to insurance services on the mobile app work quickly, which demonstrates that the priority of the Post Office is to sell services, but not to provide a vaguely useful service as a travel money card. I have subsequently found out that there are other apps which offer this service efficiently.

Love this card used it both in Italy and America. Had no problems and every where accepted it. It makes it so much easier paying in the actual currency of the country your visiting. To be honest I have used it to get cash and mainly use it to pay hotel bills or paying for goods. The nice thing is that a quick call can top it up or convert it to another currency in the country you are living in at the time. It’s also useful to help save for a holiday by being able to pop into the post office or using your bank card to build up your spending money. Great little tool for travelling.

The app is very good and easy to use. A few amendments could be added to make it great. Firstly if you are logged out of app you have to back through adding yourself as if it were the first time registering rather than having a ‘sign in’ if you already have account and then second option for first time users. Secondly they should add a section to top up to show how much GBP you have converted to your chosen currency to help keep track of uk monies added. At the moment it only shows the overseas currency held. I would like to see ‘you have topped up £xxx in gbp.

Like some other reviewers, I am stuck in a never ending cycle of entering my name and email address, then waiting for a verification email that never arrives. I found the previous Travel Money app really useful, but I can’t even get past the verification stage of this app.
Update: I have finally managed to get the app working. I have an iPhone 8, and had to uninstall the app, delete iCloud backup data, and perform several new backups before the app would download and send the confirmation email.

I’m impressed, I always doubt a lot of these things but this one worked ok for me.
I did try to use the app straight away to test it out and it locked up, but was informed by the help desk quite correctly that it takes a couple of hours to get going.

New TMC app was very quick easy to set up and use. Added a new debit card with no problem and moved money GBP to AUD almost instantly.
One small issue, App doesn’t automatically swing round into landscape view on my iPad, so when typing in details using a keyboard the App is stuck on its side in portrait view - grr! Please fix as most people rarely work in portrait view on iPads plus it is useful to have an orientation option on my iPhone too.

Regarding managing your Post Office Travel Card - the app does what it needs to do. (And it is massively prettier than the previous apps)
Unfortunately the Post Office seem to think having enabled notifications gives them permission to spam me with marketing messages nearly everyday. I have always had notifications enabled on the previous versions of the Travel Card app as I always wanted to ensure I was notified if something happened to my account. The new SPAM ALL THE PEOPLE stance that the Post Office have chosen means that I have had to disable this capability which leaves me worrying that I will not learn of any issues with my account or card.
Disappointing.

I picked up a travel money card from the post office, and was told to download the app and set up the card the following day.
After reading the negative reviews I was quite concerned if I had made the right choice in cards.
I rang the number provided with my card and activated it within 3 minutes and then it took 2 more minutes to link my card to the app, not a single problem

I’d love to give a more comprehensive review of this app, but unfortunately it won’t even let me log in. Lost count of the number of times I’ve redownloaded it and attempted to log in - after putting in my name and email address it tells me a verification email has been sent. It’s been days and numerous attempts and I still haven’t had a single email - I’ve checked my junk aswell. I can see from the reviews on here that several people have had the same issue but the developer responses don’t seem to provide any help on the issue. I’m going away in a couple of weeks - going to have to use the mobile responsive site in the mean time.

The previous Post Office Money Card application was average at best, this is significantly worse. Moving between functions on this application with a modern iPhone is slow, the display is less than clear. I was using the previous version which failed to operate on over 20 occasions whilst I was attempting to load money on my card. The Post Office failed to notify customers that the application had changed and the IT department were unable to rectify the issue. Great help whilst you are travelling abroad! I will be using Cash Passport instead and avoiding the ATM costs. Research and avoid at all costs.
