Absolute rubbish. Homework doesn’t even have the subject easily identifiable. No colour coding on parent app either. First thing that comes up as the Home Screen. Not fit for purpose.

Don’t size of messages way to small to read
The font size of the messages are way too small to read. We had to resort to screenshotting and enlarging it.
If you have multiple child on the same app often the messages are sent to both child’s accounts and it’s very confusing.

Few technical issues
There is an issue with uploaded .docx files not showing correctly with overlapping text/images. If the same document is uploaded as a .pdf file then the format stays true.
There is also an issue with the notifications still showing unread even after the new message has been read.

New to this app - not impressed
So far not impressed. Not been a smooth transfer from previous platform.
Lots of lagging/ bugs, keeps showing an item but isn’t anything. Only just got the app after using an also clunky website.
Really do hope things improve so I can change this or rewrite.

Cannot expand the tiny text. Cannot search. Cannot delete messages. Cannot rotate phone to read messages. Schools just pay for a glorified message system that could just go out as email and then we could do all of the above. Payments option says to store card info but never does. Only good thing that works is booking parents evening.

Is it working?
Early days with this app, but every time I open it I’m asked for a review. So here goes. Lots of errors, particularly server ones. Payments have been taken multiple times (and then credited back). Paid for trips are not showing. Lunch purchases are not showing etc. School is not replying to in-app messages - were they sent? Odd interface differences in left hand menu between mobile app and desktop browser interface. Only week one of term completed. Hope things get better!

I had to copy and paste everything after typing it out in notes.
Get your devs to have a look and fix this as it’s a massive barrier to using the app. Most people wouldn’t bother signing up with so much effort.

When receiving information about my child there is no actual reasons as to what the notification is for. I understand GDPR etc etc but there should be an ability to put outline detail without infringing GDPR to inform us as parents in order to support school in any necessary actions

Horribly clunky
This is a clunky, poorly designed app with very bad UI. It doesn’t allow for smooth navigation between children’s profiles, constantly pops up the ‘data collection’ page when this is not selected, and despite having an option to ‘save card details’ for payments nevertheless requires full card details to be entered every time a payment is made (which is A LOT). Please, if nothing else, sort this out or integrate with PayPal/Apple Pay etc!! Simple actions (booking an after school club) require multiple, non-intuitive steps to complete. Other school apps do all these things better. It’s just horrible being stuck having to use this.

Wouldn’t recommend to any parents whos childen have learning difficulties
This school/ Melior community academy Scunthorpe has dished out c4/c5s detentions like sweets and as a result of this my daughter who is ADHA and ODD has self-harmed by cutting her wrists as she loves to learn but because of her hypo activity she is always punished. Since writing to Ofsted support was put into place especially by Mrs Hurley and Mrs Nixon. As regards of Mr Harrison the man, is a joke, his way or no way simple as he puts it. Now the 6 week process has ended we are back at the start. Because of this I’m in the process of removing her from that school. If you child has learning difficulties please don’t send to this school.

Frustrating to use
This app is slow. It doesn’t send any push notifications to me of messages even though I have them turned on so I miss things. It doesn’t save my credit card details or let me use my autofill credit cards from safari so every week when I top up dinner money I have to add my card details manually.
Not linked to app but the school also uses bromcom system to send emails to my address. Every single email goes in my spam marked by Google as ‘fishing’ despite me adding to safe senders, adding BromCom to my address book and marking the emails as not spam. This doesn’t happen with emails from any other organisation so I can only assume it is something with BromCom’s set up - school say they can’t do anything.

Paying is a nightmare
For some reason card details no longer save which means I have to add them every single time I top up dinner money. Wouldn’t be so bad if you could use Apple Pay or have the facility to add card details from those stored on your phone but the app doesn’t support that either. Thought it was bad enough before that you had to type the address in each time but removing the facility to save a debit card is painful. I don’t carry cards around with me so emergency top ups are problematic! Please sort.

Awful, clunky user experience. In the behaviour for learning section- it could be improved massively if you could just click to move onto the next comment, without having to close and go back in. Whenever you close it takes you to to the top, so if you want to view a specific one in the middle you have no chance.

Utter rubbish
The app doesn’t push notifications through properly which results in missed messages, it doesn’t save card details any more, some of the various tabs vanish from time to time so you can’t access what you need (dinner money for example), it often refuses to log in too. It is extremely frustrating from a parents perspective.

We swapped from EduLink (fine simple functionality) to this which is incredibly badic and yet also tricky to navigate. If your school suggest, I would advise them to steer well clear.

Sometimes it doesn’t show as having any messages. But mainly it has an icon giving a number of messages, whether it has any or not. I have no way of clearing this, so have to keep checking the app to see if school have been in contact with me.

A million percent worse than Epraise
This app is great for school data collection and spotting behaviour trends.
What it’s NOT good for is
1) Having any idea what homework your child has, as they can’t mark things as complete once they’re complete
2) praising good behaviour instead focussing on the bad
3) Removing message notifications once you’ve read them
4) telling you which of your children the message notification is about
Oh my gosh I could go on but I’ve wasted so much anger on this already. The main thing (which is actually quite damaging to a massive cohort of children) is point 2. A system that encourages teachers to log negative behaviours rather than rewarding good ones is BAFFLING in this modern age of mental health awareness. Absolutely archaic attitude.

It’s ok, but the messaging system is horrible
The app is ok, but the messaging system really is a chore to use. You can’t use paragraphs (I have sent multiple half messages because I hit enter) and you can’t search so finding older messages is a chore. Also sometimes it just doesn’t display messages.
Also it’s very slow and clunky to switch between accounts if you have children at different school. Which also complicated clearing alerts for messages.

This app doesn’t naturally flow, it’s really clunky, it regularly crashes on my child when they are trying to see what homework is set and says there is no data. When my child completes their homework, my app still reads not completed for days which makes it a pointless tool for me to aid my child’s management of their homework. School has emailed to say my child’s report is now on Bromcom. I can’t find it anywhere. Bromcom is dreadful - we used to have ePraise - I miss it terribly.

We are so pleased with this app as we can see all that is happening with our son in school. It’s also fascinating that with the weather conditions today, we checked on the app & there was a message of scroll closure. This is a really brilliant app & our son would never lie of not having home…

Not fit for purpose. With this app you Carnt see if message been sent received or read unlike the old school app they used to use. School have said can send a photo on it but won’t say how and there is no option to send photo for example an appointment letter that they need to see. When receiving message from school the notification doesn’t disappear after you have read it you have close app down and reopen to move notification. Really wish school had not changed to this 1. Had many issues logging into the app and won’t load when change children. Using the web side now as app just to unreliable

Everyone I know has issues with this system - teachers, parents and admin staff alike. It didn’t function properly when my children were at the same school, now they’re at two different schools I am unable to pay for anything and nobody seems able to make it work.
If any schools or trusts read these reviews I’d avoid this software like the plague - if there was an option for zero stars I’d opt for that.

A good app for parents with a minor suggestion
The MyChildAtSchool app is a great way to stay in touch with my child's school. I can see their attendance and achievements. The app is easy to use and has a user-friendly interface. I can also communicate with their teachers and school staff through messages and notifications. I can view and download reports and other documents.
The only improvement I would like is to be able to open PDF files in landscape mode. Sometimes they are too small to read in portrait mode and I have to zoom in and scroll around. It would be easier if I could rotate the screen and view them in landscape mode.
Overall, I think the MyChildAtSchool app is a good app for parents who want to monitor and support their child's learning. It has many useful features and functions that make it convenient and enjoyable to use. I would recommend it to other parents.

My Child at School App.
The app notifications do not delete once you have read the item, so you never know if you have a new notification or not.
The announcements on the calendar do not appear in date order so you have to scroll back and forth to make sure you haven’t missed anything, not easy when you have a years worth of announcements .
Also the app often m freezes on the loading circle when starting or switching between messages.

A very useful app
This is a very good app which allows me to keep track of my children’s school lives. However, there are a couple of things which make it a little frustrating to use that really could be better. Almost every single time I get a message from school and I read it, the app still shows that it is unread. The unread notification can stay there for days, when it should update itself immediately. I go in and out of the app and the messages and it still doesn’t go away. The other thing that would the make the app more user-friendly and bring it into 2023, is to allow the function to work if you turn your phone horizontally. The communication letters from school (which can be in very small print) would be much easier to read by having this function, instead of me having to zoom in with my fingers and slide the letters back and forth to read. Minor issues I know, as the app is really beneficial and allows us parents to keep track and view a lot of things to do with school in one place, but these points would make it much easier to use and more user-friendly. Thank you :)

Very frustrating
For two weeks since school has started I have struggled to make a dinner money payment. Every time I enter my card details the app has a problem and says sorry, can’t process. Screen behind is black. Only option is to click ‘ok’. Every press to ‘ok’ changed background one shade lighter until you press it so much that the entire screen is white. I have to delete the app, as it loads back to the screen where you have to push ‘ok’ and start again with all my information! Very frustrating. The school can’t offer any help other than to delete it and start again. No help section either.

A downgrade from other apps
My child’s school have been forced to adopt this app by the academy they are in and it’s a huge downgrade from the My Ed app we were previously using. It’s slow. It’s unable to give the same information the previous one did, when you have 2 children it’s almost impossible to get rid of the messages. Huge problems for lots of parents adding money for school dinners.

UI is poor and it fell over for the whole school
The UI is portrait-only and small. It is not suitable for a tablet. Not having a decent tablet interface makes me question the quality and effort put behind the app. The web interface is better to use - I would recommend just going through a browser.
The back end seems to have failed last night, leaving a whole school not knowing what homework was due or what lessons to prepare for. It really wrecks the value proposition if we have to keep paper records running in parallel to compensate for big breaks in up-time.

Very poor
Admittedly only been using this service for the first two weeks of the new term (as a parent) but we have found the reliability to be very poor. Of the 2 or 3 times that I have tried to log in I have found the server to be unresponsive. Have tried multiple devices, using all combinations of browsers (chrome and safari) and the app. The server is often unavailable for an hour or so per time. When the server is working, however, the content looks good.

Too Much!
This app is good for parents to make payments, that’s it. Other than payments I hate it.
Call me old school but I don’t need a message or a bad point because my child was doing something stupid and unimportant like talking in class. If my child has had a serious accident or incident the school will call me, anything else I don’t really need to know or be bothered about. That’s what parents evenings are for.
My child is in secondary school, aren’t they a bit old for good and bad behaviour points? That should be left to children in primary school. I don’t need to know what my child is doing every second of everyday.

Terrible customer service
I have not been able to access the app since the latest update. It won’t even let me reset my password, I get a continual error message that my email address is incorrect (it isn’t). Despite having topped up my child’s lunch balance before the update it now says there is money on the account but won’t let us allocate lunches as it’s saying there is no lunch balance! It’s infuriating. Dozens of parents at school are having the exact same issue yet Bromcom are claiming there’s nothing wrong with the app. If it looks like a duck…

No Support, No follow up - work it out for yourself
Received a message from the school that the new app was ready but we couldn’t use it until the following day when “invited” to create an account. Why send a message a day early rather than wait until it’s ready to go.
Following day, no invite message for many parents but one parent reported receiving 5 invites. No follow up from the school to say… you should have received an invite by now so get in touch if you haven’t.
Very concerned that the app or the school has an SMS service that doesn’t guarantee delivery or retries until receipt confirmed. What other important messages am I going to miss?
Not holding my breath for an apology or an explanation of why the invites weren’t sent as promised. Simple process completely screwed up from our experience, so frustrating.

Terrible user interface
I find this app very hard to use as it is not intuitive.
Trying to look at the timetable, there is no indication of date range, no data or just broken. The whole app is like that and needs a serious redesign.

If I have any concerns I would msg the school through this app and issue are dealt with immediately the following day. It’s the fastest and efficient communication I have experienced throughout all these at any school. Well done St Benet, keep thriving to aim for the best. Awful
My sons school has just switched to this app. It’s slow, keeps crashing and it isn’t intuitive to use. Having used other at previous schools (class charts and school gateway), this is significant inferior to other apps available. But like other reviewers have said, we’re stuck with it because it’s what the school have chosen to use.

Utterly incomprehensible
I fundamentally do not understand how in 2023 someone can produce an app so totally unintuitive that a 25 year IT professional had issues navigating and booking after school club. It has so many fundamental flaws, from listing every booking as Monday to the idiotic issue that when you add money to YOUR account, it adds to it to whatever child you have selected and cannot be used on any other child you may have.
If your school has chosen to use this app God help you…

Pretty much rubbish
Had to use this app for my eldest child at college, kept sending me daily reminders for an outstanding amount for a school trip which I confirmed with school had been paid, was glad when finally finished and could delete the app. Then had to sign up again for 2nd child, obviously same email address and low and behold, back come the daily messages about outstanding payment for eldest child who left college 6 months ago, extremely limited info on it and other than the option to pay for things it has very little to justify the space it takes up on my screen

Could be so much better
Having used this app for the past 2 years on both an iPhone 12 Pro and now a iPhone 14 Pro, the app is very unresponsive, the menu options only work when clicking the icon area, rather than the whole name, messages that have been read stay unread with app notification persistently staying active, notifications are poor and most of the time when messages are sent from school, they are missed and only noticed days later. Not very well setup for separated parents, especially when there are issues in communication, school sends messages to one parent but both can see. Should be a private option.

Appalling app. Payment system is ancient and clunky. Trying to set up and sign in incredibly slow, repetitive and frequently fails. My son can’t access his homework, so his learning is adversely affected! All in all this app is a massive waste of my tax payer’s money.

Terrible system
School announced they were using this system in July, just before summer holidays.
Two days trying to set an account up, they have no way of communication or help on website.
Now it’s September and the school send emails to us parents. I can’t get these emails as the system errored and now won’t let me log on.
Changed the password 10+ times for it to tell me it’s wrong when I try to log in.

Having to turn notifications off AGAIN
So far in the last half hour I have received 11 notifications saying a message has been left by the school which seems to relate to a message that was left yesterday for which I didn’t receive a notification until today.
In fact, I have had a further 2 more messages as I type this.
This happened before and I had notifications turned off for months previously.
Without notifications, the app becomes pretty much pointless.

Truly awful app with limited functionality and lots of bugs
The only thing this app seems to do well is show me my children’s attendance levels - which is pretty useless as I already know whether they’re in school or not every day!
Payments are really clunky - full address details have to be entered for every single payment - pretty tedious if you want to pay for weekly snacks etc. Also, when you do pay for an item it doesn’t show as being paid or disappear from the shop - so need to keep separate track of what you’ve paid for to avoid paying twice.
Most messages just turn up in my emails and aren’t then visible in the app. Not a big deal, but mildly annoying if you want to look back for something.
Randomly sends out hundreds of notifications for messages when there aren’t any to see - end up turning notifications off but then have to routinely check in to see if the school has sent anything.
Functionality is really limited and since moving to this app the school have had to start relying on other methods to sort payments, send messages, collect data - more work for them and more to keep track as for parents.
One star seems generous. Sadly the school has imposed this on us, so we’re stuck with it. Haven’t met a parent who likes it yet though!

Message notifications don’t work
I have children at 2 schools using this app and I constantly miss messages because the notifications don’t work properly. The icon will show 1 message waiting when there aren’t any and doesn’t clear when the messages are read. Or it shows 0 messages waiting when there are 3! And to show any messages at all I have to switch accounts! School sent out a message for a last minute opportunity to go on a trip which had to be replied to immediately which I didn’t see until later that day and so my child missed out. The functionality is limited from a user perspective and the user interface is very dated. The idea is good, but the execution is awful.

Making payments
We have three children and each time we make a payment the address has to be entered. Also each payment is processed separately. Better to have a basket which can be paid once all payments are set up

Needs improving
The system is good in so far as everything is listed under same platform but we all talk about the frustrations of payment. Why not use Face ID or more up to date tech instead of having to keep writing down addresses and card codes. Also I find I get chased for payment and it’s not on my system so when I go to school and query it then later appears. Not sure why but it’s annoying and a time waste. Parentpay was much better with helpful logs.

Not sure how this compares for teachers but as a parent I don’t find this user friendly. Previous app used at school was easy to use from day 1 and I felt very in touch with my child’s progress, could make payments, read proper feedback from teachers rather than just a tick box point of Merit etc - (what does that mean?). And it isn’t very obvious to find even this info.
Might be designed with teachers in mind but as a parent I feel it makes communication more difficult.

Notifications not quite right
For the developers - Great app for reports, attendance etc but when school add an announcement or a message it displays multiple notifications, for example one announcement today displayed 4 separate notification messages one after another making you think there’s 4 announcements

Awful App
I have spent 15 minutes trying to update my address and I still can’t do it. It is totally unresponsive and then freezes. There has to be a better solution for storing this type of information than this App.

Poor with fake reviews
Seriously.
Read some of the positive reviews - they don’t even pretend to sound like parents.
This App, and the ‘support’ behind it, is clunky, s l o w, and regularly freezes or crashes. Currently won’t let me log back in as my email address isn’t recognised anymore. It’s the school’s responsibility to fix this but even they are stumped, and we would all rather go back to the simpler App we had before - it worked. With MCAS, I have to wait 2 days for it to update to see that my sons were in lessons or not - the fact that this is the what the developers think is important shows where this App is pitched.
Even when it is ‘working’, the interface is complex and counter-intuitive; it actually takes 12 seconds to log in - first world problem I know, but who designs such poor architecture ? One star is obviously too much but can’t wait to dump this system.

1 months in and no improvement
I had given this app the benefit of me being new to using it but it hasn’t got any better. The app itself is slow to navigate and update which makes everything else harder to use.
I get duplicate notifications for the same incident meaning I don’t necessarily know if something has occurred multiple times or it’s just the app, I know my child doesn’t get 5 rewards in every subject daily.
The messages seems like a one way method of communication as there’s no read receipts or replies. Which is fine, but why have the ability to message without the ability to reply.
None of the links I’ve received from the school to check out messages on the app have worked.
The timetable feature is just a mass of names and classes, no definitive guide to which subjects my child has on which day.
I received notice my child had 100% attendance whilst he was at hike with Covid so I don’t even trust the attendance feature, something I’m sure most parents would like to trust to ensure their child gets to school on time.
I Genuinely haven’t had any use for the app and I don’t understand why schools are persisting with it.

Messages don’t work
I cannot read messages on this app, it simply crashes every time. It would be good if I could tell which child/year group the messages apply to. There doesn’t seem to be any formatting on messages I see on the website - this makes them more difficult to read than emails. Have yet to see any useful information on this as our school doesn’t seem to be able to connect their homework/behaviours data… All a bit disappointing.

It’s ok
From speaking to other parents who use similar apps for their children’s schools, this one is quite basic, no way to monitor what meals your child spends their lunch meal on. My daughter is a fussy eater and I would hate to think that she is skipping the meals at school and living off cookies.. as I k ow she would if given the chance. Also the behaviour and achievement points are not clear so hard to understand it.

How do I communicate with teachers?
Generally the format is good but how do I actually communicate with the teachers and headteacher? There is no option??? Is it because it has been disabled by the school or is it because there is no such option? Currently it has info which is a one way traffic and does encourage interaction which is what apps should do as their primary utility to add value. Also can’t amend my daughter’s photo, these steps should be easy and simple which currently are not sadly. Looks like the app gives a lot of control to school and teachers and less to parents. Just some constructive feedback. Hope this helps

A wonderful app
This is an amazing app for all parents. It allows me to see my children’s progress and behaviour. It also allows me to see when they’re late or when they miss homework. This has allowed me and my children to improve our daily lives as we are able to keep on top of our children’s whereabout and if there is an issue or not.
This app is an amazing piece of technology and I 100% guarantee its usefulness.

Amazing!
The app is incredible and would definitely recommend getting. The only thing I have negative is that sometimes it can take a while for the information to load, but that’s fine. It can even have my Face ID to open the app so the information remains private

Slow and clunky
Our school has switched to this app from Satchel One (Show my homework). This is a much slower app to open and doing anything on it takes a while. Switching between my two children isn’t easy and the interface isn’t very user friendly. I don’t like the message option because I appear to get messages for both children in the same inbox and I can’t tell easily which child it’s for and this makes it hard when they are in different years. Why do the messages not appear in the child’s record? The messages themselves appear very basic in layout and tiny font. We have to use this because the school is implementing it, however there could be many improvements, not least the speed of response in use.

Really good app lets you know and keep up with your child’s school messages and all other issues ie attendance. Also you can watch your numerous children on one app so easy

I love this app.... as I m always connected with the school as well as my child when he is in school. I am so happy that I found this app, it has everything I need to know about my kid. Thank you so much for this app, really been so helpful.

Very engaging resource!
Nice app to be in contact with schools. It's a nice app to be in contact with the school staff and admin. The response is prompt to every query that is asked. A nice way to interact and know about your kid. Also, if any issues found in the app, it is resolved as soon as an app developer can get. Hoping this app to remain in this state with prompt issue addressing.

Review
I have never been so frustrated by an app as this one, in my opinion it is dreadful. I get the same messages more than once, you can’t change between messages quickly as it crashes the system, it’s not as easy as I feel it could be to toggle between children. The parent consultation booking system has previously crashed and lost all saved appointments for most of the class, randomly saving a couple! It’s not easy to delete messages as it crashes the system, you can’t seem to delete notifications. I would never recommend this app to anyone. Oh and now I can’t bloody submit this because I need a nickname (seriously?!) and the ones I try are all taken - ridiculous!!!!!
