Don’t waste your time

I opened a new student bank account with Lloyds to get ‘exclusive’ discounts with TOTUM yet none of the UK shops that are commonly used are even on there. Things like Boots, Hobby craft, New look (popular brands) aren’t available and the ones that are- are unpopular brands that nobody uses or has heard of. Frustrating to say the least, stick to UNIDAYS you’re so much better off.

I also tried to get a card for my lanyard which shows my age despite it not being proof of age for things like clubbing etc and I showed my current driving license ID only for it to be refused because my hair and makeup was different in the picture.

Unstable - have had to delete and install on 3 occasions.

Unstable app. Have had to delete and install again on 3 separate occasions - mainly because my student card was not loading which was annoying.

I now use a screenshot of my student as a replacement of opening the app in case it fails on me again.

In terms of the deals - they are ok. I don’t use them much.

Rubbish

Feel like I’ve been scammed. Considering they say they have so many discounts, most of them the terms and conditions don’t allow the discount to be applied for other factors. The app is extremely confusing to navigate and offers such as ‘discount on travel’ is no discount to buy a rail card or any other travel that I can see. Exact same price to buy a rail card off their website. Absolute scam definitely stay away!!

The main benefit I have from TOTUM is having a student card as I study with the OU. Otherwise I open UniDays or Student Beans first as their apps generally run without issue. TOTUM tends to bring stress by not loading or crashing frequently and has done for over a year since I got it. Unless you want or need a student card for local discounts or stores then I’d pass and just use the free student apps.

Ap doesn’t work

Ap is basically non-functional. Try to open the offers tab, but it never loads just an endlessly spinning circle and the word “loading”. Try to open the “my card” so I can add it to my Apple wallet or use it in the shop but that never loads either says “oops we’re having trouble connecting”. Luckily I don’t need the offers section to shop in co-op and boots which is the main reason why I have this card but it would be good if the app at the very least did what it’s supposed to. it would be super helpful if I could store the card in my Apple wallet rather than having to carry a stupid outdated plastic card around with me all the time

I have been using this app for around a year or two. App is very useful when it works for when you leave the card at home. Unfortunatley I almost never get the chance to use it. Everytime I press the email/password sections on the login screen the app decides to crash. Waste of Money!!

I wanted TOTUM card as student ID and paid the highest amount nearly 25-30£, but app is not verifying Royal College of Surgeons of England, takes me to portal and it buffers forever!! I tried with Safari and Chrome both but no success. I tried help centre but they did not seem to understand the technical error. Now I got email that my card is ready to be dispatched. I cannot understand what are they dispatching at the cost of 30 bucks, as my student status is not verified nor my ID. There is no helpline for direct contact.

Worst App Ever!

I’m a mature student. I’ve been ‘using’ this app for a couple of years now and it continues to be slow, glitchy and muddled.

I received an email offering a ‘free year’ as a loyal something-or-other but it looks like I still have to pay for the ID card (the only time I really use it is at the Co-op for their 10% discount, which they need a physical card for to swipe at checkout)

I’d expect the change from NUS CARD to this TOTUM nonsense would have settled and that the online and app services would have been sorted by now.

I’m hoping my uni ID card will be enough for other discounts as this is really not worth the money it costs nor the hassle of applying.

App needs re-designing

Trying to purchase a MacBook through the app and getting redirected to Apple education site. Only probably is the totum navigation bar covers the top of the Apple navigation which makes it difficult to uh navigate. Can’t find a way to actually click the “buy” button and contacting the totum contact us team hasn’t been too helpful as they tell me to log on using a computer...think I’ll have to make a visit to a store which I was trying to avoid. Please can you revisit the design of the app especially when being redirected to an external site.

TOTUM and NUS extra app issues

Hi I registered with NUS extra and whenever I try to log in I am told there is a server issue. I was lead to believe that TOTUM and NUS are the same thing and their logos both appear in the TOTUM site yet I am expected to pay for both cards but can’t access any of the online deals to use in stores via the apps. Total waste of my money 🙈

I love the students discounts and the card is widely recognised, so it makes it easy when stores ask for proof of ID. It’s a shame that the app constantly crashes, so you’re left unable to log in a lot, which is the only frustrating thing, especially when I used it to find all discounts in one place.

How a favourites option

I’ve saved a lot of money using this app and there are a lot of my favourite retailers on there. I would deco recommend any student to opt for this. The fee will pay for itself in time.

A great addition to the app, I feel, would be to add a “favourites” option so you don’t have to keep searching.

Absolutely rubbish app

There really isn’t much to like about this. I paid for the TOTUM pro card and didn’t get that much extras. Most of the deals can be found elsewhere and most of them are really bad. I literally have never used any of the deals since none of them apply to me.

I was looking forward to the TOTUM pass card which turned out to be a complete disappointment. Despite having issues and contacting support and waiting forever for a response about it not scanning my passport, I still have not received the pass card for about 6 months. I have just about given up and am going to use a driving license as ID from now.

If you are into this type of rewards scheme don’t bother with TOTUM and go with alternatives like UNiDAYS which actually has better deals.

I don’t like the app BUT

I must say that the app crashes a lot and it’s very rubbish. Plus totum joined Nus extra so they should show all deals in the same place.

But the website is full of good deals and as pointed out you can find similar ones on unidays just with your email but sometimes a student card is required. Now I pay 12£ a year; I study from home so for whatever attraction they have a student discount not listed on Totum ( expositions and cinema or small shops) I have an ID card to prove that I’m a student and it’s well recognised everywhere. So I really like it and works cool on the website!

An absolute joke of an app and service

I rarely review things because there are few things that I’ve come across that enrage me as much as TOTUM, but this app and service is just truly appalling. Trying to apply for the TOTUM card itself back in September was painful enough, but I eventually received it. Trying to log in to the app to try and access the online discounts seems to be a physical impossibility?! Every single time I’ve tried to log in, I get an error message telling me that the app is having problems with my content. I updated the app this morning to see if this would help, but now it’s telling me it doesn’t even recognise the email address that I registered with?! I’ve been using Student Beans or UNiDAYS for discounts because it’s exhausting just trying to access the app. Bring back NUS cards!

Easy application and quick delivery

I’ve had a TOTUM card for two years now and it never fails me! The new PASS ID feature was super easy (just make sure you have valid photo ID and a nice white wall nearby! Same as applying for a UK passport digitally!). Ordered the card on the Monday and it arrived by Friday!

My Union also told me that I can now see societies and sports teams I can join, and and events I can attend!

Would 10/10 recommend!

Great but not for online

I regularly use my card in the co-op, which is great BUT whenever I try to use the app or login online I have problems. Online, I have to reset my password every time because my previous one isn’t recognised and on the app, it constantly crashes or logs me out and I have to reset my password then as well. I get my totum free because I’m part i have a Lloyds student account. But if you’re considering laying around £15 for this card I seriously say no.

1. The app crashes A LOT

2. You only get 4 tries to scan your passport for the ID and if you don’t submit within the 4 tries. You don’t get a card with your Id nor do you get a refund

3. There are plenty of other student discount brands like Unidays and student beans.. which are FREE

SCAM! DO NOT BUY!

THIS WOULD BE ZERO STAR BUT NO OPTION FOR ZERO STAR.

This is my first time writing a review because I am extremely mad and do not wish other people to go through what I did.

I can’t get my documents to scan. I have tried over the pass few weeks to upload my documents in different lighting & angles and today is the last day to upload my documents. I have lost all hope. I even emailed them in total of 5 times and NEVER received a reply.

Hence, I wont be getting the Pass ID I paid for!!! £15 gone just like that.

So yes, this is a total scam and I definitely won’t recommend this.

I haven’t gotten my TOTUM or ISIC card either.

BTW, if you are thinking about buying this because of their student card, DO NOT BUY. The student discounts are bad too! Even UNiDAYS and student beans which are free, have better deals from more companies!!!!!

What a scam!

I paid for my card on the website but was then instructed I had to download the app to verify my ID, which crashed every time I tried to take a photo of my driving licence. Managed to get it to accept a photo of the licence from my photo library. Then had to ‘prove I was a human’ by performing actions using the camera eg: look at camera, tilt head down, tilt head up, look to the side - not easy to see the instructions whilst performing these actions and hoping the app doesn’t crash again, then told further checks need to be made and I’ll get an email!! Utter waste of time.

Scam !!

This app is rubbish. You can get the same discounts on unidays or other discount sites for a cheaper/nonexistent sign up fee. I tried to get a pass ID with my totum card however each time they would not let me use the photo I took even though it ticked every single box. They said it didn’t match the face on my passport. Considering I manage to get through airport security through face recognition just fine, goes to show how much of it is a scam. And since trying to contact somebody about this I have been passed back and forth between Totum and NUS as neither want to take responsibility. I’ve had enough and I definitely want to warn anyone who has been recommended this by a school or friend to stay away!!

Love to tell you how the app works but despite having made an account with my email, and I get emails with THIS account regarding discounts , it isn’t ‘linked to an account’ on the app. When I go to make a new account with that email it says I’ve made an account with it. Absolute Garbage.

So I’ve bought my TOTUM Card and wanted the PASS proof of age hologram with it.

I took the picture of myself 3 times and then I ran out of attempts. This is because apparently each time the picture of me didn’t match the person in the document (passport) I provided. This is an obscene excuse. Why can’t we upload a picture instead of using this crappy app to take a picture which claims you’re not the same person as the one on your passport.

All it does is show a box saying “we are having problem loading your content try again later “. I have been TRYING again !!!

I emailed and all I got was a reply 2 days later saying this is a known issue no apology no details on when this would be fixed.

Steals your money!

Was charged for the three year card (nearly £40) and was then unable to set up the card +ID

After Facebook messaging, emailing and Instagram direct messaging TOTUM nothing has been done! Unfortunately they don’t have a phone number so I haven’t been able to contact them at all.

The app is also terrible and incorrectly uploaded my picture, and has no option to change or orientate the picture.

The app hasn’t recognised my payment despite the confirmation from TOTUM, and so keeps attempting to charge me.

Could not be more disappointed, at this point I’d just like to be refunded my money but there is no way to contact TOTUM.

Total con and a UI written by a ten year old

One of the biggest draws for me to the TOTUM card was the Pass ID you get when you pay the £15. However when going through the application process it wants a picture of either your drivers license or passport which you try to provide only before having the app persistently crash and registering as a “failed attempt” P.S you only get 4! Why? You might ask? Well after a quick search on their FAQ’s the answer is basically “just because...” SO basically now I’ve payed for something I won’t receive, FANTASTIC. Absolutely fuming.

Let’s hope I can justify bothering with it by hammering all the frankly mediocre discounts that you have to trawl through for hours to find something remotely worth while, the whole experience is about as much fun as gonorrhoea.

I am trying to login to my account through the app in order to receive my NUS Card and after asking me to change my password, the system says that they are having issues loading my content!!! Seriously it has been a week now!! I contacted the customer service and no one is even bothering to let me know what’s happening. It is getting frustrating!!

Don’t waste your time

Downloaded the app as suggested after buying the card to be able to get the added on ID feature (thankfully I didn’t pay any extra) and couldn’t actually upload my proof ID as the app would just crash. Had to just bypass it in the end as “Help” was no help at all, I don’t know what I’d have done I’d paid the extra for it as there’s no one obvious to contact. Frustrating waste of time.

App Crashes

App displays some great offers.

However, I’m unable to complete the proof of age iD, as every time I attempt to either scan my driving license or scan a pre-existing photo. The app either crashes or says “Unable to access at this time. We’re working on it, try again later”. It had been like this for over a week, and now I only have 3 days left to confirm my identity. Not good.....

Unhelpful

I’ve had both the NUS app and this one and I have been able to log in to neither of them so I can’t access the deals the card gives me. I have the UNIDAYS app which is so useful and easy to use so I am disappointed that my parents have spent money on something that I can’t seem to use when all along there was a free app doing the exact same thing. Not happy and if somebody can help me log in, it would be much appreciated!

Shockingly poor app (and website)

It would seem that this app was a first year student project as it contains almost no functional - with the only option in 'my profile' is change place of study...which it then doesn't allow you to do if your card hasn't expired. In the history of education, has no-one EVER changed a place of study?!

The 'Smart member' section tells you that three stars means that you haven't yet arranged delivery of a card or activated it, but provides you no means of doing so.

I think that one star for an app this bad is overly generous!

Loads of discounts

Already paid for itself with the number of times I’ve used the discount at Co-op for my food shop. Also saved money at go ape and just booked for Blackpool pleasure beach. Well worth it.

Useless & a scam

It doesn’t allow you to log into the app & I paid extra for the Gourmet Society and it hasn’t given me anything for that. The email that was sent to me as confirmation of purchase didn’t actually show the order so it appears the Gourmet Society is completely fake and there is no way of seeing your purchase history so there is no way of proving that you did buy the Gourmet Society.

Why make us charge extra for food discounts

TOTUM cards aren’t exactly cheap and I think it’s an absolutely rip off that we don’t even get to use the full benefits NUS has to offer, and instead if we want to unlock all the food discounts we have to pay extra to be a part of the “Gourmet Society”. It’s ridiculous when most of the actual offers you get with your TOTUM cards can be found on Unidays for free. I suggest TOTUM should consider getting rid of this “Gourmet Society” rubbish and just include it from the start or lots of students will not be renewing their card next year because there’s just no point when Unidays is free!

Poor customer communication

Having spent a week in pointless emails to support I finally get someone to admit that it’s only today 19/10 that they have properly fixed the issue with linking the card to the app....except when I ring the support line on the 23rd nothing has been fixed and the advice is not to use the app! Come on people are paying real money here...Poorly thought through and probably launched without proper testing

Lots of the offers don’t even work!!

The card is good to take with you to places for food and stuff but some of the offers on the website are pointless as they don’t even work. Especially the Thorpe Park and Alton Towers one, the log in details don’t seem to work or the page is on a re-start loop. Please sort this out.

Absolutely appalling

Paid around 18 pound for my card, had it delivered, and verified and the app is still telling me I need to pay again. I have the transaction to prove I have paid. Also no way to access what my gourmet card which I paid extra does. Tried to use the query form on the website to complain and this too does not work so I’m going to be taking this further and demanding a full refund and explanation as to why I’ve been robbed, as this is absolutely ridiculous and a scam. DO NOT BUY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES

Waste of time

The card is good, the app is so poor that it’s pointless. You have to trawl through every discount to find the one you want as there’s no search bar. And it is impossible to get your profile to sync with the app properly. TOTUM’s solution was to login online and that’s where their customer help ended. I won’t call their helpline because like most students I don’t want to throw my money away. Yes, that’s right, TOTUM/NUS (a company ‘for the students’) will charge you to call their helpline! Says it all!

Disappointing

I’m actually quite upset that I bought the TOTUM card without researching first. For one thing, the app seems to break down often and it seems to have no deals on it at all at the moment. I’m paying around £30 for this card and it constantly freezes or doesn’t easily display discounts. There also seems to be exactly the same deals on UNiDAYS for free. This makes this card pretty redundant and I can’t really figure out how to refund the card. However, there does seems to be some good deals (when the app actually works) but I would recommend getting a UNiDAYS card rather than a TOTUM card if you don’t want to waste your money.
