I find the app slow and buggy. I bought a 322GW with a rear camera thinking I was getting and industry leading brand. Sadly I was wrong. I bought the factory hardwire kit and the rear passenger view camera option. Not the apps fault but the camera itself randomly powers on and off when it feels like it.
Ok I will ignore the adverts in the app for services I don’t want and products I don’t need.
The app is buggy as hell. It stops connecting in the background and when I go to launch the app it just sticks on a blue screen I presume loading? I have to remove the whole app and reinstall it to get it working again.
Moving past that, downloads off the camera are slow and painful. I appreciate it won’t be super fast but on a WiFi connection I expect a 60mb clip to download off the camera in a minute or two, not twenty.
I have yet to see anyone say they can download clips off their camera quickly or efficiently.
I have no idea why the app or the camera don’t have an option to auto download flagged files either when you stop or are near the home WiFi and parked up. That’s the kind of professional feature I expect, although I would settle with downloads just working.
I am not buying their new camera that looks hideous and apparently works better, I think I will just go to a better brand next.

I don't know what have you done but the app crashed completely on my phone, tried restarting the app, then the phone, the only solution was to delete and re-download the app. In my other car I have NEVER been able to connect to the camera (another phone, another camera). Just not happy with that one at all. I can only hope that in the even of an accident somebody magically will be able to get the files from it because right now its a waste of money. Obvs been too long to take it back to the shop, as trying to sync with phone not been the number one priority 😏

This is quite simply a perfect example of how not to do things. The app rarely actually opens on iPhone and when it does connectivity so bad it’s comical. On the rare occasion it connects there actually isn’t much there to do and it’s painfully slow. The hardware is pretty good (except for the Alexa integration which is just baffling - what is actually does is beyond me) so in essence don’t bother with the app, it unnecessary and brings absolutely nothing to the party. Unfortunately it seems anything remotely ‘techy’ needs an app apparently…not always so, just stick to the basics instead of wasting people’s time.

Bought two brand new 522GW’s for my two cars. One connected to the app, but then I tried to update firmware and it just got into a cyclical loop trying to install it (cam never responded to a change, so it wasn’t working). I did the firmware updates via SD card instead which worked seamlessly.
I had to uninstall and reinstall the app to get out of the cyclical loop it was stuck in trying to update firmware (not even closing the app and restarting the phone worked…..)
Now both cameras have up-to-date firmware and they appear in the connect menu on the app, then it goes to a “select accessory” menu where nothing ever, ever, appears. The only option is to hit cancel and then repeat the same process over and over. Great cameras, this app is absolutely terrible so far.

Had no major issues with the app until recently where I try to open it and all I get is a dark blue screen (of death) and the app just stays stuck on this blank screen. I’ve uninstalled and installed it again and it still happens. So I can’t even connect to my dashcam wirelessly now. This makes the app pretty useless. I have an iPhone running iOS 17.1.1. Nextbase please fix this!

I have 622GW which works with iPhone 8 fine but absolute waste of time with anything much higher than that, iPhone 13 and up, not a chance! Customer service are robots and in my opinion either don’t give a, or are being told to do people off with the usual reset your connection gibberish!!! I’ve had my 522GW for two years and it was fine the first year, no problems. A year in, I have had overheating issues, my rear camera didn’t connect to the front which caused me to buy another rear one as again, worked fine for a year and then died, connectivity problems regarding opening the app (the app just doesn’t open) and connecting to the camera, the camera freezing whilst I’m driving (had to reset the camera every time for it to work again). If I were to be in an accident or witness an accident, I’m embarrassed to tell people that yes, I do have a dash cam but no, I cannot give you the footage as there’s no possible way of getting to it without wiping the bloody thing. Nextbase please sort your current cameras out before bringing out stupid AI technology and expecting that to work over these “simpler” cameras

I have had Nextbase 662GW front and rear dash cam fitted (hardwired in) with no issues. The only issue is trying to open the app and view the footage. I can only access this when I am inside the car so the live view is pretty pointless as I have to be in the car to view it (and I get a live view, looking out of my windscreen! With my own eyes) I don’t know if anyone has issue with this or is it just me…
So for the rating I’m afraid the app get a two stars. If the issue could be solved I would change my rating.

But it often crashes when connecting to the device, considering you only revert to the app when there is a problem around 50% of the time it’s a struggle to access review and remove footage. when you successfully removed footage, it is good quality, but the process is flaky at best.

Despite all the cool features, I'm not happy with this app. Much more often it doesn't work than it actually does. It freezes when opened showing (ironically) only a blue screen and there's nothing I can do about it. Closing it and restarting doesn't help. Tried reinstalling but should I really reinstall and go through the whole setup every time I want to upset it? Why do I need these features for when I can't access them? Please, if you don't know how to provide a working app - don't. I'd rather have no app at all than an app that makes me waste time and frustrate trying to get it work all over again.

Bought 622gw 4k from halfords. Everytime I try to connect through WiFi, a message comes as error connecting or loading! 👎
In my opinion, nextbase is the best for picture quality and user friendly but from my personal experience it’s no difference between this and other good Chinese branded dashcam you can get from amazon and etc.
question is, then why do want spend more to get nextbase that’s not even working as they should???

My t6.1 came with Nextbase front and rear cameras installed. Managed to do all the updates and get it working. However as soon as you switch off the ignition you’ve lost access to the camera. Why isn’t it in the cloud for access anywhere anytime? So if you have a clip you wish to keep you have to spend 10 mins sat at the end of your journey downloading to phone.
Also if I try to start app on my iPhone 13 with lastest iOS I just get a blank blue screen.
All in all given the price I paid pretty rubbish experience.

After buying a 422GW, rear camera and Sd card from nextbase tried to set it up and kept failing on WiFi setup, done everything suggested and still the same. So tried to connect to iPad and worked 1st time, I had a live chat with nextbase the next day which took a few hours of my time as waited constantly on a reply and after doing a bit of research I’m not the only one with problems on iPhone 14 series and seems to be no access request on iPhone app for local network. So basically it’s only use is to actually record and every other extra thing won’t work on my phone. So not fit for purpose

The Nextbase app had been functioning quite well for approximately two years since I first started using the camera. However, ever since I updated to iOS 17, all I encounter upon opening the app is a blank blue screen. I have important footage stored in the app that I absolutely do not want to lose, which makes me hesitant to delete and reinstall the app, as it's highly likely that I'd lose the clips I've downloaded. Too often I get a blue screen when opening your app I have to close it many times to get the normal screen up. And will you stop showing ads, on the first page more than half the screen is taken up by ads (shop now, get a quote). It’s getting ridiculous and I don’t want to have to see ads after paying a small fortune for the camera already. It’s clunky. I’ve actually ditched Nextbase for a Garmin Dash Cam now after a bad experience with your technical department where they couldn’t fix my problem. READ YOUR CUSTOMER REVIEWS. ITS DIRE.

I honestly don’t know how this app gets such a high rating. It rarely works, when it does it freezes or won’t connect to the dash cam, which is equally rubbish and hangs up. Running firmware updates is neigh on impossible and there are conflicting messages to say it has not connected when it has or vice versa and it can’t make up its mind whether the firmware has updated or not. Such a frustrating and time wasting app and dash cam and I wouldn’t recommend either to any one.

Can’t fault the hardwire. I’ve used Nextbase cams for as long as I remember. Having just purchased a new car I thought it was time for an upgrade and purchased a 622GW. It’s a great cam but it all falls apart with this software. It does not connect with my iPhone 14 Pro Max and it seems this issue has been going on with users as far back as January from the research I’ve done. Nextbase have promised to fix this issue but thus far have not. And as far as I can tell they have not directly addressed this issue either. Such a shame. For a large company like Nextbase I can see this issue being a downfall for them.

I’ve had my 522GW front and rear dash cam for a few days. It can take a couple of minutes for my phone to establish a connection with my dash cam while I’m sitting in the car with the dash cam turned on. Viewing footage can be time consuming as it can take a couple of minutes to download a single video to my library. On one occasion, the footage from half of my journey was not visible in the app; I had to wait a few minutes for them to randomly appear. I’d find these issues very frustrating if I needed to access my footage after a collision.

Not compatible with apple car play as it requires its own wifi connection which car play also requires.
If I had known this about nextbase I would not have purchased the camera etc.
Also the high speed data connection to the iphone is very poor in connectivity as it keeps dropping all the time and/or will not connect unless you hold the phone up near the device.
For now I just connect when parked (mostly at home) if I want to/need to download any files from the device.

Using this app on an iPhone 8s with the latest operating system. That app locks and I have found it impossible to manage recordings view them and download them. I finally gave up and have deleted the app from my phone. I use a pc if I need to save or send a recording….following the review I received the standard generic response asking me to contact support. Given the sheer numbers of users with the same issue as me and given I’m using well established mobile technology I decided not to contact them. In addition after a few weeks of using the pc I note the following…the charge port is also the USB link to the pc. When the camera is fully charged you only have about 10 minutes before the battery percentage drops too low to continue using the pc connection. I will never buy another one of these and I am telling anyone who will listen not too. It’s all hype and marketing. How there is a 4.5 out of 5 rating for this app smacks of something foul.

I needed a video for the police and it would not load at all it crashes consistently. I’ve deleted the app . Completed a network re set , re paired the camera and phone over 15 times and counting and it does not do anything .

I have a 422gw dashcam which I purchased a month ago and had no issues with it, worked fine, but since upgrading my iPhone from a xr to a iPhone 14 pro it will not establish a Wi-Fi connection, will connect to Bluetooth ok but not Wi-Fi. I have turned off keep user settings and set back to default settings and deleted and reinstalled the app but still have the same problem. Please can you help thank you

THIS WI-FI CONNECTION ISSUE WITH IPHONE 14PRO IS BECOMING A ABSOLUTE JOKE NOW, I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH NEXTBASE MULTIPLE TIMES ABOUT THIS AND THEY STILL HAVE NOT RESOLVED IT. IVE HAD A TICKET RAISED FOR 3 MONTHS NOW AND MADE NUMEROUS PHONECALLS ABOUT THIS AND THEY KEEP TELLING ME THEY ARE WORKING ON IT, I THINK IN REALITY THEY ARE JUST FOBBING ME OFF.

Huge connectivity problems

Downloading and playing back files through the app was always a bit flaky but just about usable, however since the last update and/or iOS16 updates I simply cannot connect my 422GW to my iPhone 14 Pro on iOS16 (all updates). I’ve tried troubleshooting and resetting, and reinstalling and re-pairing and nothing works. Camera firmware is up to date . App is now un-usable and the only way I can view files or update the dash-cam is by plugging it in to my laptop like it’s 2005 again.

Avoid if you have an iPhone 14. Giving up on Nextbase! Have a 522GW that used to connect well to iPhone 12. Since upgrading to 14 Pro, app continuously fails to connect with dash cam WiFi. Phone and dash cam are paired but cannot download any recordings to phone as it requires the WiFi connectivity. Followed all the help suggestions (full removal of devices, return to default, reconnect, etc).. nothing works.
Turns out this is a known issue but appears Nextbase can’t be bothered to find a fix! I’m done with it.

I have a GW522 dashcam upgraded from a GW322 and the picture quality and mount is really good, but the app is awful.
I thought the cam viewer app was bad, but atleast you could actually view and download videos, even if extremely slow.
This app though just does not work! Links up quicker and easier than the cam viewer app, but doesn’t allow you to do anything on it to view or download anything. Then to top it off I’ve just done an update for the dash cam and now I can’t get off the screen on the app that says it’s up to date. Pressed everywhere on the screen, including the “continue” button like you’d expect and nothing. Closed it down, even turned my phone off and instantly goes back to the same screen with no way of going back to the main screen.
Great dashcam rendered nigh on useless because of the app.

What a mess this app is.
I’d suggest concentrating on the connectivity rather than a fancy GUI.
I sit there for 10 minutes as it tries to load even thumbnails from 2 feet away on a “high speed Wi-Fi” connection.
Had a 522GW over a year now. Reboots randomly, when it does eventually connect to the “high speed Wi-Fi” I get videos up to two days before the current day. What happened to todays??
If I put the card in a micro sd reader I immediately see todays vids. I’ve tried loads of times. iPhone 13 Pro Max up to date.

I’ve had several Next base dashcams over the years and when my last one broke last week I thought I’d buy another Nextbase as they’re a ‘good brand’ and that I already knew them.
How wrong I was 😓
My iPhone currently running OS16.4.1 can’t connect to the dashcam with the app. The dashcam is useless.
Before you say it, I’ve already uninstalled, reinstalled, default settings, disconnect, reconnect, turned it off and turned it back on again and still won’t connect!
Also no matter what setting I use the dashcam won’t keep recording passed a few short minutes in a loop, like at ALL! I feel like throwing it in the bin but it cost me £120 when I could’ve just bought a cheaper dashcam and had much more luck with it.
If I were you I’d stay away, but if you’re reading this, it means you’ve already bought the dashcam and you’re just downloading the software, in which case I pity you as I now pity myself 🤦🏽‍♀️

That this highly expensive dash cam is entirely useless thanks to an app that is consistently useless. I paid extra for a professional setup, bought an in car and rear window camera as nowhere in their promotional sales did they say that only one of these can be connected, wasted £60. The camera was extremely late arriving. I spent several attempts learning how to use the app. I’ve had a few cases when I had an emergency stop to avoid an accident yet the camera had no recording. Connecting is virtually non existent most times I try. Getting to see a video is therefore impossible. The sales people did a fantastic job blowing up a thoroughly useless product with an enormous price tag that doesn’t work. My advice, get one for £20 and get one which doesn’t rely on a clunky app which doesn’t connect.

Like many other reviews, this app is useless establishing a WiFi connection to your camera. I purchased this to make downloading video easier. The only workable solution is to take the card out and read it in another device. Overpriced if WiFi isn’t working. I have been emailing customer support for over a month and no one seems interested in helping. I have been asked for my device details almost every email. One star is generous.

I have had non stop problems with connection. It worked well for the first 3 weeks. Then the app on my phone would not open. I have deleted it and reinstalled it so many times. It also takes anything from 20 minutes to 30 to connect when I’m lucky. Before doing so I have to unpair it and pair it again. Eventually when I get into the app after 5 minutes it throws me out. So guess what I have to do the above all over again.
I contacted customer service and I didn’t find them useful and they told me to go back to where I bought it.
I’m at the point where I don’t bother checking it anymore. A complete waste of £350.

If it doesn’t recognise bluetooth connection, go to bluetooth and delete device then reconnect!

A lot of users having connection issues same as I was. If you read error message during setup connection it says to go to bluetooth settings and click ‘forget nextbase device’ then re-scan and connect, it will work fine after that!

iPhone connection problems

My iPhone SE latest generation used to work fine until os16.3.1 update installed. Now problems downloading files from camera. Guy at Halfords says it’s a compatibility issue with latest update he’s had lots of customers coming back. Contacted next base tech support they were good meant de installing and re installing app and resetting camera to factory settings.

This has to be the most cumbersome piece of software ever written.
It just seems thrown together and hope for the best.
Sometimes it connects. Sometimes it doesn’t.
Then joining the Wi-Fi seems hit & miss. Then maybe it might just disconnect randomly.
When you do get to the videos. It takes an age to show the thumbnails. If you can find the protected video quickly. Selecting it can be hit & miss. Then once selected, the download option may or may not work. Possibly 1 in 3 tries results in having to crash the app and restart the dash cam as nothing happens the screen just carries on downloading the thumbnails but never confirming your wish to download the selected video.
Has the developer actually tried to use this product in real life? I do wonder.

So the developer said it will work with Bluetooth 4.2 and above. Bluetooth ain’t the problem it’s the Wi-Fi that’s the problem. I was in curry’s and Halfords all day Saturday and anyone with a iPhone 14 could not connect to Wi-Fi.
So I called nextbase and explained to them I can’t connect to Wi-Fi therefore I can’t see clips on my phone, she asked what phone I had and before I could finish telling her she stopped me and said “I’m really sorry but iPhones (new ones) have a security firewall up stopping data or something g like that.
She told me to keep an eye open for a update

I have a 322GW and the app and connectivity is very poor, bordering on unusable. Downloading / viewing videos is a chore and it’s not uncommon for the app to simply show a blank screen upon opening, requiring you to remove the app and or re-pair phone & camera.
On the rare occasion you may get it working the videos take forever to sync on the ‘high speed wireless network’ it establishes between camera and phone.
It’s a shame as the cameras themselves are decent quality with nice features but the app itself is terrible. The desktop app is also sadly lacking and shows issues aren’t just an isolated iOS specific thing, the whole UX across all platforms is painful and it’s baffling to me why it’s rated so highly.

Terrible app. For such a hi quality camera, this app is very poor. The Bluetooth connection is enough to push the data around yet it has to connect to WiFi which always asks, as it should do this by default. If that’s what it’s got to do why ask each time? Love view is good but not needed, and downloading or trying to watch videos from its own camera it says it’s not compatible!!! Laughable app. Best best is to do it the old fashion way and take the card out to a computer (if you have one) Get it fixed Nextbase!!! It’s all you do!!!!

Shame you can’t get rid of the irritating ads on the Home Screen. Don’t see the point in advertising fitting of the dashcam when it’s already installed. Network connection drops out a fair few times and the system seems so slow in transferring files to phone. The 622GW dashcam is great but the app and connection could be vastly improved.

Alexa and NextBase low success

When I first got my camera the integration with Alexa was brilliant. But for the past 6 months or so 80% of the time it’s a complete failure to connect. By that I mean when you speak the trigger word, nothing happens.
I can see the problem is between the camera and the NextBase app because if I pull over and bring up the NextBase app it says it’s not connected. I’ve tried deleting the devices, clearing Bluetooth devices, and tried trying reinstalling apps but nothing seems the make a difference so I can only assume the app is buggy.

Having a 522GW with rear cam nearly three years ago I managed, after multiple attempts to pair to my iPhone. It performed or I should say failed to perform as it rarely connected.
Today I try to download an incident and it self removed it’s paying. This, despite it being the latest iPhone and software together with the latest app.
It seriously needs rewriting with swifter connectivity and download.
The only way to get the recordings is to remove the card and read on a computer!!!

Bought a 322. Cannot update firmware either by iPhone app or pc. How do next base get away with selling these?? Battery life basically non existent. A poor product and feel robbed of my hard earned. Great answer next base! Update new firmware. Did you not read the above-it won’t update via iPhone/iPad app or laptop so how do you suggest I update it???
After the ridiculous reply to my comments I have emailed nextbase support for assistance. Guess what - no reply! I would suggest to anyone thinking of buying this not to bother

This really is plug and play. Buy the camera Get it installed, in a nice tidy manner and ( like me ) you will have someone on film ‘cutting you up’ three minutes later ! Ok. Not worth reporting to Police. But it could have been. So pleased I spent the money
Any other comments ? Well I reckon it will take me a while to get to grips with all the features. But the important thing is, that I am getting a picture of what is going on around me

Opened the App for the first time in a couple of months to find they’ve now got Ads on the Home Screen? Why? I’ve paid over £300 for my 622GW and am presented with an Ad telling that Halfords offer installation. The App knows I have a dashcam already and has been in place for over a year so they’re not even relevant Ads. As far as I can see, there is no way to turn them off. It wasn’t the best App to begin with so the addition of Ads worries me as it’s a waste of the Devs time to add them in when they should be concentrating on the usability of the product.

It’s been ages since I last used the app. It’s all up to day all I want to do is download 2 files! Been sat in the car for 10 minutes now trying to get the app to download 2 videos. And it won’t even download anything! Had to restart the app 5 times before it would even connect to the dash camera in the first place! This app clearly hasn’t been sorted out! I have the nextbase 520 dashcam and reversing dashcam! Honestly say it takes me 10 minutes to get to my flat plug the SD card into my laptop and download ALL videos to my laptop! Let alone 2!!

Wasted 4 hours trying to pair this with different iPhones. Halfords installed but couldnt make it work. Tried two other units. Same error messages. Deleted app about 50 times, rebooted device all to no avail. Checked had updated software on all devices. Followed Millie’s 16 point plan buried on dashcamtalk. Rang customer service no response, tried chat function but Bot response was same loop. Lots of similar issues online.
In this day and age selling product that is patently not fit for purpose is beyond reprehensible. Best I can do is warn others. Hence this note.
DONT GO NEAR THIS IF YOU HAVE AN IPHONE AND ARE IN ANY WAY TEMPTED.

Love the cameras have front and rear cameras and both are great quality. However the app is just terrible I’ve had nothing but issues with it. Can’t playback the videos have to download them in order to view them. Connection to the dash cam is painfully slow and is always dropping out. I cannot recommend this brand of dash cam as what’s the the point in having the best hardware when the software is as bad as it is.

got the 622GW few months ago, the iphone app cannot connect to the cam since few days ago, try all recommended procedures but still no luck. Also, the app cannot update the cam’s firmware, I have to connect the cam to laptop via usb in doing so…
In addition, I also bought the rear cam as a set, and just found that if it’s used as a parking cam, the left and right are flipped. Is there any function that can config it into mirror image so it looks exactly the same as the centre mirror?

I have purchased a car which has a Nextbase 380 GWX wired into the car. I followed the instructions on this app to connect to the dash cam but a message told me that I needed to use Cam Viewer. I have tried several time to connect to the dash cam using Cam Viewer and the dash cam’s WiFi but nearly every time the spinning wheel on my iPhone SE 2020 keeps going around and around and eventually times out. On a couple of occasions I was asked for the password so when I entered the default password a message came up saying “you cannot use this at this time” or words to that effect. What do I do now? How can I input my car registration number to the Dash Cam? I can download videos to my iMac but I would like to download them to my phone sometimes. Please help.
Since posting the above review, I was contacted by Nextbase support who talked me through the set up procedures for Camviewer. All is now well and the app works fine.

I’ve had this dashcam for over 2 years now and honestly it is so stressful trying to use the app. The app crashes a lot. Randomly disconnects from my phone so every time I want to access footage through my phone I need to manually go onto the settings on the dashcam and forget device and then reconnect. I have to do this 9/10 times as the next day it would forget my phone. Very inconvenient if you want to download footage quickly.
2 years and several other complaints from customers about crashing and connectivity issues and they’re still yet to do anything about it.

I have had Nextbase dash cams for about 15 years and always found them easy to operate even purchased one for my daughter who after one day of having it used it when someone crashed into her car so I think people with any sense will have a dash cam in their motor

So it turns out the app works fine if you take the camera out of the car and connect in the home. (Must be an Apple car play conflict), however this needs addressed urgently as 99% of people need to download footage in their vehicles.
