Still no improvement and crashed after first move on ipad. Come on developers you can do better than this for ipad. Slight correction to last post. Game is on Nintendo Switch not xbox360 sorry. Reading on internet that Asia update causes problems with this too so have not updated on Switch as currently works well,touch wood. Nigel Mackinnon Update 21 July 2025 Using my ipad on ios 16.7.11 game crashed 5 times by the time I played 2 birds. Please get someone who can program for ipads as currently not fit for purpose on ipads. Update 2nd September 2025 Tried game on ipad again. By the time I played 3 birds game crashed 6 times. How can this be allowed to pass quality checks. Suggest outsourcing coding to ipad professionals. Until this is fixed suggest no more sales on ipads.

Tried again on ipad today 15 October. Crashed after very slow opening. I have ipad ios 16.7.11. Can Apple put pressure on this developer to improve this app as still not fit for purpose on an ipad.

Do not waste your money

This is a great game, I have the board game, sand was so looking forward to the iPad version but over £7 for an app that glitches and crashes making it impossible to complete a game is just not acceptable. Looking at reviews this has been an issue for months and you have done nothing to improve this. Will be pursuing for a refund and would advise no one to purchase until improvements are made

Slow and regularly crashing

I love Wingspan, and play daily. The app has all the feel of the board game.

However it does have a lot of glitches. It has always crashed occasionally but with the most recent upgrade that happens more often. It’s also really slow to open. The combination of the two means that yesterday, playing a live game, I couldn’t get back in time which must have been annoying for the other players too. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled and there’s no improvement (playing on iPad). Please can you work on this?

I love birds and games, so was looking forward to this. I haven’t played the board game, so am a complete newbie to Wingspan, so tried the tutorial first.

Sadly it is so complicated, I can’t work it out. I think I have just wasted £7.99.

I will try again in a bit, but so far it’s confusing and very frustrating.

A great version of a wonderful board game

Title says it all really. If you’ve ever played the board game version of this, you’ll know just how good this game is. It can feel a little bit intimidating on the first couple of plays, but if you stick with it, it’s incredibly rewarding and it’s not difficult.

Note to the developers: please could you turn off the automated switching between environments? Much preferred it how it was before. Or at least make this a toggle item in the settings? Really appreciate your work, thanks.

Needs a Campaign Mode

I really like Wingspan and it’s a great adaptation with super music but the lack of a Campaign mode or better quality AI (ie harder to beat) makes the game dull after a while, especially if playing offline

Best game that ever existed!!!

I cannot describe how awesome this game is. We’ve been playing it consistently (daily) for 4 years. I don’t know why we cannot get enough of it. We even bought artwork from the artists - it’s SOOOO beautifully made. The music is so calming. We just LOVE it

Amazing game

Amazing game but it has had a lot of problems with bugs in the past, and lots of issues with multiplayer games being lost. I’ve started playing the game again recently and it seems a lot better now. I play a lot of digital board games and this is one of my favourites. Lovely graphics and sound, and some great expansions that keep the game exciting. Looking forward to the upcoming expansion.

Slow and glitchy when playing the computer

I love the board game so downloaded the app. Playing against other people online is fine but as soon as you want a game against the computer the app becomes slow and repeatedly crashes.

Great game. Glitchy app.

The game works great overall on the app. However there are some glitches that are irritating. Mainly that if you close your phone down, then reopen an online match when you receive notification of 'it's your turn' - the game loads into the match, you can see everything but it says no internet connection, causing need to go back to the main menu and re enter.

Just frustrating as it can sometimes take 1-2 minutes just to get back in to take a turn.

An amazing adaptation. Possibly even better than the original game

The game has beautiful graphics and is really intuitive to play. There are a few glitches here and there (e.g. if you swipe when drawing cards it can cause them to disappear) but nothing that breaks the game. It’s as beautiful as the board game version. Can’t wait to see wha monster couch do next

Game Crashes Constantly!!

I love Wingspan, it’s such a good board game and the app adaption is great, but the latest update has RUINED the game. The app crashes constantly, making it unplayable. It doesn’t matter if you’re playing online or against the AI, you can’t finish a game without it crashing. Sometimes the app crashes before I even make my first move!

Developers, please fix this issue! I never write reviews and would give this app 5 stars if the crashing issue is fixed.

Potential buyers, do not pay for this broken app until it has been fixed. Stick to the physical board game for now.

Latest update has broken the game on iOS

Hands down the best board game port I have played. Love this so much so I am completely gutted the latest update has made the game unplayable. I am now experiencing game crashes within seconds of starting a game or tutorial, I have reported the issue and tried various recommended changes, no improvement. The latest expansion makes me feel like I just paid to stop playing. If Monster Couch can get this sorted, then my review will be back up to 5 stars, no problem.

Oceania expansion just crashes

The base version of the game is great, although the AI is not that challenging. However, it would crash occasionally with the screen going blank.

But the real bad news is once you upgrade to Oceania it crashes all the time and is unplayable. I recommend you do not upgrade until this problem is fixed!

Great implementation, ai needs a little work

The game is a very good implementation. It is a tad expensive but it is very professionally made. Only issue is that for a real challenge I need to play real people as against the ai my win rate is pretty high. Maybe 75%.

There is so much to love…

I love this game. Have played the board game a lot and it’s a natural transition. Overall I would say get it. Especially if you have enjoyed the game in physical form.

Pros

- presentation level is amazing. From the sounds of the birds. To the overall music it’s all presented to a very high quality for both graphics and sound.

- CX is fantastic and overall usability is great

Cons

- AI even on hardest setting is pretty poor. You will win every game once you are half competent.

- multiplayer is just a mess. I have been half way through loads of games and twice in the last couple of months it’s just deleted all my a-sync games. No message. No apologies. Just ended. And it’s all very basic. You can only have a 3 player game and no settings you can manage. No chat. You could be playing AI for all you know.

Currently almost impossible to build karma points

Since the big re-boot I have tried hard to build Karma point to get back into the zone of players who don’t quit easily but when at least one game in five times me out - even when I am sat looking at the game (with the timer indicating it is another player’s turn) waiting for my go, the game times out on their turn and then tells me it was my turn that timed out! So frustrating!!! It is going to take days and days to get back where I was.

Brilliant… but some of the trivia is wrong!

Absolutely brilliant game - so beautiful and the perfect adaptation of the board game…. but some of the trivia is dreadfully wrong! I think there’s been some mixups…. E.g. House Wrens are definitely not brood parasites, as the trivia suggests… but are parasitised by birds like Cowbirds! I’ll start taking note of mixed up trivia if that helps :)

Great game but really buggy lately

The game is beautiful and enjoyable, but maybe since the last update (mid-Feb) it’s been crashing a lot. Not sure if this is just the ipad - I see another recent review flags this - but we’ve had to give up on a couple of games because it gets stuck on a player (both human and AI), and I’m also seeing the ‘something went wrong’ pop-up more frequently. Depressingly it doesn’t seem like the developers are actually bothering to look at/respond to the comments in these reviews.

Beautiful deck builder

Absolutely stunning game. Artwork is so lovely. Had only played the non-digital version no I cannot fault the love and care that this game has. Have not had any bugs or crashes (so far) like other reviews. There’s also a battery saver in the settings for those that had poor battery life with the game.

Again, such a wonderfully realised card game with impressive online features like asynchronous games. Thanks for making a great game.

EE Keeps disappearing

When it works it is great. However, even though I have purchased the additional backgrounds and the European Edition it keeps disappearing. It lets me keep the avatars but the birds are no longer available. Restore purchases does nothing. The only thing that has worked is to delete the app then reinstall which means all saved games are lost. Monster couch did not reply. This seems to be a big bug.

Beautiful wholesome game

Really love this game. It’s just complex enough to be interesting but simple enough that it’s not boring to learn. The graphics and music are excellent. I didn’t mind paying the price for this as I know it’s more niche so the devs have to be able to make money this way. It’s great on an iPad but some things are small so I would say if you have a small iPad or trouble with your eyesight maybe buy this on PC instead. I’ve had one crash but the game seems to have a great auto save to allow you to jump right back in.

Battery hog

Absolutely love this game. Have had it while on the switch, it’s such a well made digital board game. Bought it day 1 on iOS and I still love it but just 4 stars is due to it running my battery down quicker than any board game I have seen before on the App Store. Would love a battery saver option then would be happy to give the 5 stars

Fun game, pretty app, annoying bugs.

A great looking conversion of the board game that plays quite nicely. There’s a very annoying bug where the green ‘accept’ arrow button doesn’t appear after making a decision on my Pro 10.5. The only way to fix it is to completely restart the app. Sloppy really. Would be an easy 5* otherwise.

Superb game

Two player game keeps crashing

There is no way to send feedback with attached screenshot through the app and the 2 player game keeps crashing if a player plays the forest/food option x2 + additional bird card trade, there is no forward or backward option available and the game has to be abandoned - a pitty 🤷🏻‍♀️ we ❤️ the board game version, this app disappoints too often in 2 player mode

Love the game but online matches need work

I love this game, I’m a fan of strategy but also not super competitive. Wingspan allows you to play a decent strategy game without feeling highly pressured. The art and music of this game easily makes it a 5*

However the online matchmaking could use some improvements. It’s frustrating getting close to finishing a match and it takes someone a whole 5 mins to make a move. In my experience if they haven’t done it in 3 mins, they usually stop making moves and it forces all players to disconnect.

An improvement might be to either reduce time taking turns meaning players are waiting for less time and/or allowing 2 players to continue an online match if one drops out.

Would make this review a 5* with matchmaking improvements.

Multiplayer a bit buggy

The game plays well locally, but online play seems a bit buggy. An opponent timed out near the end of a matchmaking game. I got offered to finish the game against local AI or leave. Both buttons were grayed out and I couldn’t do anything. Restarted the app and it took 5 karma from me.

Delightful game

Very happy to see this game available as an app. I think it’s beautiful in every respect and the most relaxing game I have ever played. I honestly couldn’t care less about winning a game as the whole experience of playing, seeing and hearing the birds is delightful and the bits of narration are a bonus. This is now my number 1 game and I would recommend it to everyone.

Great Game, but annoying bug

Wingspan is a really fun game, but it has an annoying bug which only appears intermittently. Ocassionally the green progress arrow fails to appear, often after selecting a food. The only way to fix it is to close the programme then restarting the game and it works again. Maybe because on iPad Pro, but very frustrating. Shame as love playing the game all the way through when it works!

Disappointed that I can’t use my id from switch version

Perfect adaptation

I haven’t come across Monster couch before, but I sure will be looking out for their next board game digital implementation. This is digital board game done right. Presentation: stunningly gorgeous. Not only does the game look stellar, the addition of genuine bird sounds takes it to a completely new level. Completely justifies the £9.99 price point. Ease of play: not sure how, but I feel there might be room for improvement. I love the board view and rarely look at the “other” more beautiful view. Very useful to see opponent turns pop up so you don’t have to keep switching to their board. Online: I don’t use iOS board games for multiplayer as I prefer my games in real life with friends around the table. So that’s one thing I can’t comment on. Performance: Played several games. No crashes. AI turn takes a second too long, but that’s just me being impatient. Verdict: one of the best looking and smooth running board game implementations I’ve played in long time.
