This app is, I think, abandoned. It hasn’t been updated for a year and has multiple bugs, often failing to launch it just sitting on my Apple TV screen trying to load programme listings.
I think they should just move us all to itv plus where British seems to be heading.

I have tried countless times to cast BritBox to my logic television, however, to no avail. I have currently sat here for an hour while BritBox attempts to play an episode on my television. when loading an episode, BritBox logo appears and plays a short animation, then continues to load just to play the same animation over and over again. regular crashes also occur on the app failing to load episodes, failing to load menus, et cetera. it’s such a shame I can’t recommend this app because there’s so many great classic British comedies and dramas on it, however it’s just broken.

...the way it doesn’t allow you to watch the end credits of a program before it skips to the next episode. There is no cancel option. Sometimes programs have things going on during the end credits. I had to download the particular episode in order to watch the end credits. There is still no Classic EastEnders or Casualty. They have the entire series in their archives so SHOW THEM ALL.

as a visually impaired person, I really do enjoy Britt Box absolutely fabulous, it's a shame but it's going to end, as it's one of the best apps around actually if you want British content, also more importantly for Hospital impaired people you have a lot of audio description that is very very important for those blind people, and I'm very sorry but Britt Box is leaving us. As with everything touched by the BBC (not forgetting the conspirators in this) the app works fine… but… The problem is that when you are mid-way through watching a series, it gets removed, seemingly without warning. Some programmes have series missing and one questions the value of the product.
For example: the brilliant Life on Mars is available, not so Ashes to Ashes… seems it’s bitten the dust.
The Professionals have only two series available… not so professional after all.

When it isn't taking a millennia to load, it's stopping programmes to buffer. Our Internet connection is good, and other apps are fine, so it is this one that is just horribly buggy.
Also there is no setting to turn off auto play of the next episode in a series, meaning any post credit sequence gets lost.

From programs I used to watch as a kid through to modern day shows, from comedy to horror, every genre of programs is on offer. It’s basically a feast of tv & cinema at fraction of the cost, and the bonus, different shows/programs regularly added.

Fix your subtitles. I’ve been trying to watch shows and since I’m half deaf and the subtitles are completely out of sync to the point they’re miles infront or behind it’s a joke. Honestly don’t even advertise that you have subtitles if you won’t bother to ensure they’re synced up. Stop doing the absolutely bare minimum to tick off those accessibility boxes for the disabled and actually have it work.
In fact, most people use subtitles for shows now. So you’re behind when it comes to other streaming services since the other ones have reliable captions (Netflix, Disney etc.) you’re already catering to quite a small group considering it’s UK based TV. Why make it even smaller by not making it genuinely accessible to all?

I got this app for the free trial from the Apple Store. The app clearly states free seven day trial then if wanted £5.99 a month as soon as I downloaded app from the Apple Store. It took the £5.99 I contacted BritBox and they told me it was an Apple issue even though it’s clearly a BritBox app. I contacted Apple and they told me it’s a BritBox issue not Apple
Who’s ever issue it is it should not be happening. Is clearly misleading potential customers. There is no free trial I cancelled this as soon as I realise they took the money and I’m still waiting for the refund appalling service to new and potential customers. ITVX app also does exactly the same thing as BritBox and ITV it will soon be the same provider. Be warned no free trial on iOS devices.

Endless frustration with Netflix and Amazon Prime means BritBox, it’s a relief to actually watch something and not spend all night trying to find something.
The app seems slow, wish there could be more subscriber involvement, and there’s plenty of programme, not here that should be.

I find this app frustrating. I’m on a 2020 IPad Pro running the latest IPadOS(16.3 at time of writing) .
For instance , sometimes I will hear the sound of a show over frozen pictures - or I get long buffering times….sometimes the show doesn’t bother playing at all and no amount of rebooting, reinstalling or any of the other malarkey offered up as advice by BritBox helps much. TBF, the above doesn’t happen all the time, but it happens more often that I’d like. None of the other streaming services I use have anything like the amount of glitches BritBox seems to have. Btw I have super fast broadband so it certainly is not my connection. Apart from that, some of the shows are fantastic from the original stuff like Magpie Murders or Why Didn’t they Ask Evans to old classics like I, Claudius and even Michael Bentine’s Potty Time, which will give you some idea of my vintage. Fix the technical glitches and I’ll be delighted.

Especially at this time of year, you want some Christmas nostalgia, but search “Christmas only” t9 find the Only Fools & Horses Xmas specials brings up zero results - yet they are on Britbox. Same with other searches. Easier to find lists compiled by writers on google, but it shouldn’t be this way. The search function is totally unreliable.

BritBox won’t stream via Chromecast

We updated to the latest Chromecast and BritBox is the only streaming app that won’t work. Have tried reinstalling but still doesn’t work. No help from the FAQ and, given the number of comments from other people that this is an issue, I would have expected an FAQ to be in place. Yes I could contact the Helpdesk but they are already aware of the issue and have been of little help to others with the same issue. Cancelling BritBox instead.

To anyone who has also experienced issues with Chromecast, I’d give up - got the following response from the support team: ‘we have come to the realisation that we do not support Google dongle unless it is supported with Google TV.’
Apparently although it once worked, it can stop working at any time.
They genuinely recommended that I try ITVx but I’d recommend that you try Now TV instead, I’ve discovered that it’s got a load of the programmes that Britbox had and the app works with Chromecast!

Everything that was wrong with Britain in the 1970’s was embodied by British Leyland's Austin Allegro - the worlds most awful and pitifully unreliable car launched the same year as the game-changing VW Golf. Britbox is a similar humiliation - some undeniably great British programmes rendered unwatchable by a dismal app that - for us anyway - simply didn’t work properly once during our trial. It’s been available for years but nothings been done - I tried it five years ago and it crashed endlessly then, too.

Won’t cast to Chromecast anymore

I used to cast using Chromecast no problem, now I just get ‘Sorry something went wrong’, I’ve tried resetting my Chromecast, deleting the app and reinstalling on my ipad (twice), installing it on my iphone, checking settings, googling says I need to allow location services but Britbox isn’t listed in location service settings and doesn’t prompt it either. You tube still casts ok so I don’t think it’s my Chromecast.
There’s no point in paying if I can’t watch on my TV.

Honestly I love Brit Box, the content is second to none. My biggest problem is when I watch on my Iphone, the app seems to crash every 20 minutes or so. I can be watching something then the screen freezes at a certain point and then proceeds to restart the show, although the screen is still frozen. To solve this I have to exit back to the app’s home Screen a number of times until the problem fixes itself. At this moment in time it’s not worth the fee, it will be once they sort out the app.

One of the worst tv apps I’ve ever used

Chromecast won’t work - just gets stuck in a loop when casting. Tv shows that have elements in credits are put into a tiny screen whilst an image for next episode takes up whole screen. Not able to watch the end of the episode and no option to switch off. App is buggy, loves crashing or getting stuck.
If you download content you have to watch within 48 hours or REDOWNLOAD. Why not just validate it like every other app does??
Appalling design all round, and to top it off - a subscription service for things that we have already paid for with the licence fee.

Has really good content, but I really struggle to get it to work on my iPad on on chrome cast to my TV, which is the main reason I’ve got it. It either freezes or shows a black screen when I play it on my iPad, or says ‘not available in the UK’ if I try and use 3G, or connects to my TV but constantly skips past episodes without playing them! If anyone has troubleshooting on why this happens and how to fix it I’d give a much better score!

I’ve been umming and arring about getting BritBox, but I’m glad I have. So many great shows that I loved in the past that I still love now: Grange Hill, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Stingray, Doctor Who (late 80’s) to name a few.
The only thing that doesn’t make it a five star, is how the app doesn’t allow you to cancel auto play to the next episode. There’s no option and it’s a bit annoying. Hopefully they’ll add a setting to stop that or at least a cancel button when it goes to auto play as on some shows the episode concludes behind the credits.

One of the joys of a service regarding old tv shows is watching credits, or listening to the old theme music.
These nuggets are cherished and provide endless curiosity and interest to the faithful.
Old episodes of Dr Who, the theme music from Love Hurts, funny little jokes at the end of your favourite retro sitcom- all but ruined by Brit Box and the count down of doom.
The frantic scrambling for the remote as you fumble crazily to get the credits back to full screen before the timer runs out and the inevitable frustration when the next episode plays and the content you have paid for is denied you.
Please can an option to turn the countdown off be created.
Three seconds in some cases - Yes just three seconds, is not enough to sort yourself out. It needs to be removable.

Shocking streaming service on iOS

I have signed up to BritBox for a month and it is shocking on mobile. I instantly regretted doing so. The videos I watch keep cutting out and will restart for no apparent reason. Sometimes the video will be streaming and the into/theme tune will start playing in the back - the picture will then freeze and go back to the beginning of the episode I am watching !
The subtitles are also not great and very rarely are they in sync with the audio.
I have streamed BritBox on different platforms and have only encountered these issues on iOS.

A month ago my BritBox stopped working it asked me for myApple ID that I use and password which did not except so I went to restore account and password when I put my email address in it stopped working it says it sent an email to my email address but nothing even in my junk email I’ve called AppleAnd BritBox to correct it and no one knows to correct it I have signed up for a year subscription which I cannot use so please can anyone out there sort this out for me

The service provided by this app (for which I am charged) frequently stops working - the app becomes unresponsive and when restarted will not log in. This is across multiple devices and while other network services work perfectly fine. Other days it works perfectly fine itself. If you enjoy the thrill of discovering what your viewing options for an evening will be on the spin of a roulette wheel, then this is the app for you.

The catalogue for BritBox is good but the app is really quite poor. It’s frustrating to use and unreliable. I work in the software industry and have clients in the digital TV industry and if it was one of my apps I would be ashamed.
Selecting from recents plays the next show rather than showing the about page on the show.
It doesn’t track between app instances, I.e. watch on an Apple TV and the iPad won’t know you have and will play the wrong episode, which is doubly annoying due to the previous issue.
It cuts off end credits with the inability to play them through. Tapping in the PIP is useless.
If there’s a network issue it often gets confused or stuck requiring quitting the app and restarting. It just sits there spinning.
All of this means we often don’t bother or give up using the service.

So to start of I will say I download what I watch as I often have no signal or poor signal so that’s where my issues are first issue
1.if you have no signal and then get a slight signal the app try’s to connect and bugs so I have to use it on airplane mode
2 downloads that time out have to be completely redownloaded why not just have a refresh timer button
3 the 48 hour timer there is just no need for it at all but I understand they are trying to be helpful by automatically deleting things for you but hounestly it is far more inconvenient than deleting things yourself
4 offline watching dosent save your place even on the one device your using

If paying for the app meant it was reliable, like say, Netflix or Prime. Unfortunately Britbox is a poor comparison. Currently halfway through episode 4 of Hotel Portofino, it seems jammed. The page stops at the opening Britbox screen. And yes, I’ve rebooted, taken it off the home screen and re-downloaded. I will be very fed up if I cannot watch the next episode of Sanditon. I use an IPad Pro, 3rd generations. And by the way, watching on the web is little better, that’s just stalled too. So if there is a problem at your end, feverishly being sorted out, is it beyond a human to put up a notice as the front screen comes up, that there are technical problem? At least it would save your customers wasting time re-uploading, switching to the website and so on and on.

I was sceptical when I first subscribed to BritBox, which didn’t seem to have that many programmes that interested me. Now, two years on it’s going from strength to strength. Midsomer Murders, Poirot, Kavanagh QC to name but a few. You’re absolutely spoiled for choice. I find myself watching BritBox more often than the other two major streaming services. Best of all, BritBox has started making its own programmes, as in the brilliant Magpie Murders. I’m a very happy subscriber.

I love the content on britbox. All my favourite shows are on there.
Unfortunately it is let down by an app with a terrible user interface and design.
The videos do not load far in advance so the videos will not play unless you have good Wi-Fi connection constantly.
You can download videos to avoid this problem but the videos will not download unless you are on the app. If you go away to do something else then the downloads stop.
The downloads will regularly fail with no reason given.
When you click on a show it always takes you to the very first episode even if you are halfway through the series for example.
You can minimise the app if you want to do something else whilst watching but this usually causes the screen to freeze and the app will crash if you try to rectify it.

Great programmes BUT exit of end titles & music is brutal

Like many other reviewers I find the VERY swift exit at the end of each show extremely irritating and 3 seconds is not enough time to override this. Can you please either extend the time to keep with the end titles or give us an option to switch off the queuing of the next episode.

I like Britbox but there is one shortcoming that I find very irritating. I watch a lot of Midsomer Murders episodes and usually towards the end of each episode there is usually a humorous finale to close. The subtitles and picture go to PIP before the end and is chopped off, leading to the next episode. This ruins my enjoyment of the programs, and needs to be corrected by increasing the gap between episodes so that we get the full screen program end prior to the chop off. I am assuming that this occurs to other program episodes as well.

The content is great. I love that there a complete series of so many high quality shows including some real classics.
Besides the content though app itself I absolutely rubbish and the user interface feels like it is purposely aggravating. A few things that make it so painful:
• Opening the app on my phone instantly connects BritBox to one of the Chromcasts I my house. This turns the tv on if it is on standby or changes the input if someone is watching the tv. I get no say in whether it does this or which tv it connects to.
• You can’t scroll or jump to move forward or back, it’s just not worth the hassle of trying.
• You can’t turn off auto play.
• It doesn’t auto play episodes in order.
• Sometimes, partway through an episode with skip to the next one, inexplicably.
• The controls disappear if you come out of the app for any time while it’s playing.
• There is basically no summary of what a show is about.
• The app is inconsistent about whether it remembers which episodes have been viewed.

3 Second credits

Dear Britbox,
As I am always interested in who’s in a show and who’s worked on it, it is frustrating that the shows on Britbox time out after only 3 seconds of the credits rolling, and as such there’s not enough time to stop it from doing this! It makes for a rather abrupt and unhelpful end to an enjoyable viewing experience.
I feel Britbox needs to address this, as credits are a very important part of any show, both for the actors and crew involved.
I am very much enjoying the shows you have on offer. However it is a shame that I can’t see the credits to appreciate who’s been in the show because I can’t get to the remote fast enough! I would suggest at least extending the lead out time to 10 seconds rather than 3!

I should have got bored but I didn’t, just more inquisitive! A story in one night of a night. Like one of those dates you go on, end up continuous talking secretly hoping it will end in a good place, you discussed your long life in an evening!! Not just the nice things about you but also the bad! Yet that person is still by your side you felt the growth, the comfort understanding and feelings through the night and before it ends you know in your heart -This is the one!

It is immensely comforting to have old favourites, who feel very much like old friends; available whenever you need them. After everything I’d read I was worried I’d hardly be able to watch anything but it’s all worked pretty well. The only issue I have so far is that when viewing the programmes in a series where there are multiple series (Dr Who for instance) the display no longer scrolls correctly and it’s necessary to leave the programme completely and then return to access another series.
Loving the programmes though and very pleased so far.

Video issues after latest update

I have just updated the app on my iPad Pro with iOS 15.1.1. I am now having issues when I minimise the video to do other tasks. When returning to full screen the video stalls and I need to exit to the app and start again. I was about to purchase a years subscription but if playback is not reliable on iOS 15 it is not worth paying for it. When it works though it is a great service.

BritBox is a brilliant app, to watch all the old and new classic films,to shows like comedy, drama to murder mystery.
You can download this app onto a Roku tv device so you can watch on tv at home, on tablet/iPad and smartphones.
There is always something good to watch, and the films and tv classics are updated regularly, i definitely recommend BritBox,the best of British tv and film at home or on the go, whatever and whenever you like.

I’m running an iPad Pro with iOS 15.1. I click on the app, it shuts down. I delete and re-install it - still shuts down as soon as you open it. I switch off the iPad, re-start it, re-install - still shuts down

The app will just not load up on the iPad Pro. Works fine on iphone but not the ipad. Ive deleted it, restarted the ipad, reinstalled and still wont work. This has only started since upgrading to IOS 15. Please look into this and resolve the issue

Plenty of UK classic, but forced Autoplay next episode

This service is a treasure trove of classic and newer British TV shows and Movies. Some of it has been lovingly restored exclusively for Britbox and the results are stunning. Nice to see some classic soaps and dramas from the beginning to see how it all began as well as some key points in their journey.
What I absolutely hate about the app is the forced autoplay at the end of an episode of the next one, sometimes it even cuts out extra scenes after the credits and pushes them way into the corner.

iPad no picture issues have been fixed

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a very sour review regarding no longer being to watch my favourite programmes on the BritBox app. The problem has now been resolved and the app is now working as it should for iPad users.
The BritBox team were attentive and impressive - keeping me informed of developments throughout the whole process. I’m very happy with the way in which my problem was dealt with and I’m delighted to be able to enjoy using the app once again. £5.99 per month subscription is not a huge amount of money for the brilliant content featuring past TV classics and current content. Worth every penny!

I was hoping that the BritBox team would have sorted this by now, but despite rebooting my iPad mini and reinstalling the app, i’m still not getting the video. This issue needs fixing as a matter of priority, because i’m clearly not alone in experiencing the problem. BritBox urgently needs to provide an option to turn off the broken picture-in-picture feature for early iPads. I’m astonished that they haven’t done this already.
Seriously disappointed! Will rerate when resolved.

Service great but app has one big problem

The service is itself is great. The app is good too and keeps getting requested features added to it. So what’s the problem? The features are forced on you, there’s no option to turn them off. Don’t want “auto play next episode”? Tough, you’re stuck with it. Don’t want the bright blue “Skip Titles” button ruining the opening titles of a program? Tough, you’re stuck with it. Please, whenever you add a feature, don’t force it onto us, give us an off switch.

A delightful documentary to watch

To be honest, when I first watched this documentary, I thought it would make uncomfortable viewing because of the two opposite sides of the coin, young girls meet dedicated nuns!! Was I impressed, as this is a very well made documentary and showed the girls and nuns as all having beautiful Souls. I think by the end of the film, the two sides were so much closer to one another in their understanding, their love and motivation of each other. Yes, we all need that push in life to achieve a priceless inner peace, no matter what age we are.

App does not work on iPad Pro and customer service is no help

Not sure why this app is getting rave reviews, I cannot get it to work on my iPad Pro or indeed on an older iPad at all. I get an unresponsive black screen with the words Decoding Error.
I contacted customer service and explained the issue in detail but they do not seem to understand the problem. I told them I could watch on a smart TV so the issue is not the subscription and they told me to unplug the smart TV…The problem is with the App!

I’ve always been a fan of older, classic films and television and I love that there are new things added regularly.
Hoping that eventually, I can stream series such as Children of The Stones, Gangsters and The Feathered Serpent here - that would be amazing! Thank you BritBox!

It is good to see old tv series back, loved Worst Witch, Woof, Bernards Watch, Tots Tv etc. Would rate higher if you had the option to subscribe or buy. Would also like to see more series episodes of Woof, Bernards watch rather than just one episode. Would give five star if full series and buying / purchase options. Plus adding more oldies like super gran, pole position, Telebugs and why don’t you just to name a few from my list of childhood favourites.

Rubbish - unwatchable forced audio description

We had to watch a programme on BritBox because ITV Player was not showing the last episode of a series, even though this was a repeat from several years ago, but whether we tried on or off setting, the audio description was played and was very distracting as well as talking over the dialogue!! There seem to be no way to switch this off.
