I downloaded this app - had to subscribe for a free trial but didn’t realise when I had to cancel and got pulled into a yrs subscription. I find the identification of birds is way off - birds not even native to my country. Seems to work ok if there is one loud bird call only. Waste of money.

Tawny Owl Spotted on Hot Summer Night

Good but unpredictable
I live in the south of the UK. In the early morning, the app was able to recognise bird calls from birds I know are in the area as I see them in the trees around my home. But add any road noise in at all, and you’ll get wildly spurious results - Indigo Buntings, Winter Wrens, both native of the US, not the UK and extremely rare to see here.

Can you add a selection where you choose your country that you reside in and only birds native to that. country are identified. Often the birds your App selects are not even from this continent. Maybe if for example you select UK then only UK and nearby European birds would be considered.

This is an amazing app – you take a picture, even if quite a poor one, then using AI it turns it into a perfectly clear and focused image and then identifies the Bird, with all kinds of other information. It’s a terrific find.

A joy!
Has transformed walks where can hear birdsong but not be able to see the feathery source because might be some distance away or in cover. There’s something magical about seeing the singer appear.
The only improvement (based on a couple of recent experiences) is that the bird identified is from an entirely different region of the globe. Can understand need to identify migratory birds or pure chance but mistakes are too frequent to be realistic.

Took a years payment without permission
I tried this app two years ago and was disappointed with the quality of the bird identifications and cancelled during the free trial.
I decided to give it another go and had a full years subscription taken without my permission. I have tried to get this refunded but have been ignored. Perhaps this review will get a response

This is such a tragic shame. I would love to have found out more about birds using the app, maybe once every now and then to find out what that bird is. Good luck guys, I’m not going to rent the software from you month after month after month just for occasional use. There was a time when you could buy an app for £5 an upgrade. If you wanted now, it seems app developers think they can get us to pay for the same app over and over and over again. I’m sorry not for me, not worth it. Deceptive; beware.
The app is only free for 7 days after agreeing to a £40 annual subscription (which you'll have to cancel within 6 days). The app description does not convey this as such.
The only way you can avoid the initial subscription and subsequent charge is to tap a barely visible "Cancel" button in the top right of the welcome screen (anyone with a visual impairment won't see the button). This is verging on deception.

How do you cancel?
App when downloaded appears to sign you up for annual subscription. No clear / easy way that I can see to cancel (not showing in Apple Subscriptions), so have had to email notifying of cancellation before 7 day trial ends. Firstly the app does not work very well which is never a good thing. It clearly hasn’t been tested fully and has more bugs than a few. You can record a board sound and get a different answer every time. It’s just a poor, poor application.
But the price is scandalous. You pay for quality and this is lacking in any quality of value for money.

Doesn’t work, beware ‘trial’ trap
As numerous other reviews have indicated, the primary functions of this app do not work well at all - I have a specialist 500mm lens and this app is not able to ID even basic UK garden birds taken in extremely high resolution. Uploading the same image can even give different, incorrect results. It’s just total guesswork and works about 10% of the time at best.
The app is also deliberately built in a way to make it easy to accidentally subscribe to a £30 per year package. This is appalling and I’m surprised Apple even approves such underhand tactics when reviewing apps submitted to the store.
Additionally, how has this app scored more than 4.0 as an overall rating? It doesn’t work, and I strongly suspect many of the 5-star ratings (there are very few 5-star written reviews) are not legitimate and are added by the developer. Apple needs to do more to police this stuff and stop people getting ripped off.

Ridiculous!
We found a baby bird and have been feeding it for a week. Feathers are forming and it’s eyes are open so , to find out what we had, we downloaded this app. I took a photo and it said “house sparrow” Good we thought. Then I took it again to double check and it said “Chestnut Warbler”?? A third photo of same bird, in same position something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT? Evidently it doesn’t work and I’m deleting it !

Great idea, needs work
Identification was all over the place, mostly due to the fact that photos kept getting cropped so that the top half of the bird disappears. This is a fundamental flaw which should be fixed. The idea is good, and whilst the information provided is quite basic it would be enough to make the app a handy companion if the photo comparison part worked properly.
