There were quite a few issues to to overcome as I needed a large secure key and a CIIOM one and not UK or small one as sent previously. Thank you to the lovely staff member in the main branch who got the ball rolling and sorted it all out as I am recovering from an operation and needed someone who knew what needed to be done sooner rather than later. I will use this branch only in future.

The old adage of if it’s not broke, don’t fix it, clearly doesn’t apply to HSBC.

Disappointed

Much prefer the old app. Liked the fast balance. This doesn’t really make available balance clear. The old app seemed to update balance a lot faster.

Poor migration

Migrated to the new app and instantly couldn’t use the app as my online secure key, so I now have no access to my account online.
Went to activate it (after having to look around almost every likely option but not finding it, yet the app wouldn’t physically let me enter my password to activate it.
Thanks HSBC.

Feels very uninformative

A very basic app, looks like a school project created over a weekend.
Lots of information missing - HSBC needs to pick up the game and take a look at Monzo, Revolut and other ‘challenger bank’ mobile apps - QUICK!
On the stability side, the migration worked fine first time, and it’s not crashed or had any issues yet.

Currently poor but hoping for improvement

As far as base functionality goes, the app is “ok”. I. e. I can see balances, make transfers to existing payees etc. I’m happy to wait for new features to be introduced but I really can’t forgive the way basic information such as balances are displayed. I need to at least be able to tell what the balance of my account was on a certain date. It can’t be that hard so please get it done!

Shocking, can’t believe it this is HSBC app. Looks like designed by child. Extremely poor. Very disappointed and there is no way to comeback to the previous version. It took me one hour on the phone with customer service team to set up HSBC app on my new phone. Would be the same trying to reopen old app.

Thanks for your reply! Yes i can see you have now updated the app so we can pay credit cards bills etc!
The look of the app is still awful. I want to be able to see my closing balances on a a day by day view on the app without having to log in properly every time.
And when are we going to be able to set up new payees from the app, this is so annoying. There really doesn't seem to have been much thought gone in to this app at all - just get something really rubbish out really quickly!
Lloyds and Barclays apps are amazing! You can do everything on it and even pay cheques in. I suggest you use the developers of theirs as they can teach you a thing or too. This app change has seriously made me question whether to move from HSBC altogether!

I hate that you cant see your old balances from the month before just shows how much came out day by day. The look of it is awful! Wish i could go back to the old one. Please can you do an update to make it look like the old one! Also no option to pay bills i.e credit card - have to log on properly online. Please change it back asap!!! :-(

Shocking

Took me nearly an hour to migrate to the new app tonight. Instructions ask for a ‘digital secure passcode’ between 6 and 9 characters. I tried for 15 mins putting in a numeric code and failed. Then tried a combination of letters and numbers which finally accepted. Is it too much to expect you to actually tell customers what is expected? We are not mind readers!!
Then get logged in to see my accounts. Format and style are so basic (compared to previous App) you would think that a student had designed it.
I have two accounts for my children which I was previously able to identify which was which because their name on the account was displayed. For some reason HSBC seems to think that this is no longer required or necessary and has taken it upon itself to remove this feature?
Finally, I was then trying to log out, but couldn’t actually find the button / drop down, etc.
Not impressed. Would expect more of HSBC. Perhaps this is why your CEO left the role after a such a short time?

Disappointed

Had been expecting the new app to offer the same functionality as the U.K. app but this appears to be a cut down version offering far less functionality vs even the app it replaces.
Can’t understand why a step backwards has been taken in providing this app. Surely it would have been better to wait until the app was a genuine improvement on the old one!?

- the CIIOM app may be new but the platform has been about for longer deployed in other jurisdictions (e.g. U.K.) with other features/functionality already developed and released but missed off the CIIOM deployment. Hope everything developed elsewhere is soon added here.

Unbelievably incompetent banking App

Having had the misfortune to have endured HSBC’s woeful banking App for far too long, I decided to give them another chance when I was informed they were updating their App via many messages over months.
I then receive a message to say the new App is available. I follow the link to upgrade/replace the old App, to be directed to HSBC Canada?! I call HSBC to question should I really go through with this, to be told, “no, they are having issues with it and that there’s a lot of functionality yet to be finished by the developers. It is still under development”.....
I wait and then receive another message saying my current banking App will stop working in two days and that I must upgrade. I do this and the App works for one day, I repeat one day! I call HSBC and waste another 30 minutes of my life to sort the problem out.
I have finally got the App working now but am stunned at the incredible lack of functionality that is still evident.
For such a large global bank to have sanctioned this garbage is astonishing, an utterly Mickey Mouse effort.
I have now opened another bank account with a bank that has a proper banking App and excellent customer service too (the same as my wife uses) and look forward to galloping off in to the sunset.

Like the stripped back feel.

Much prefer the minimalist feel of this app compared to the old generic app that tried to do too many things and ended up being cluttered and fussy. For me a mobile banking app is for checking balances and recent transactions, and for making immediate payments simply and that’s what this app does.
Unfortunately the automated transfer of security details from the old app just didn’t work for me. I think there’s a bug. It just took me to the old app and left me there with no further instruction. Had to call internet banking helpline who told me to delete the old app first (contrary to the instructions on my advisory email) so that they could activate the new app and I could re-enter my security details. So didn’t work s as it should have done and so not as straight forward as it could have been but it did work fine thereafter.

This app must be the worst app I have on my phone! When my bank requested me to change for general hsbc app to ci&iom i thought this would be something well ahead...surprise surprise: this is rubish!!! This does not match the quality of this bank! Lost functionality

The first thing that is obvious is that the premier account options are all gone. Such as no facility to transfer to to my international account. Half baked app for something that is being forced on us.

Poor and I can’t swap back

DON’T SWAP! Stick with old app.
I have just been on the phone and no, they can’t help with swapping back.
So I have asked them to send me a new physical Secure Key. Once that arrives I will delete this app and just go back to using that and Desktop Banking.
No Fast Balance which I used all the time
Pointless app bland app with no new features.
More clicks needed to view stuff than before.
Still no Access to create and send ‘Secure Message’ or create a new Payee.
Cannot see Credit Card Next payment due amount.
No option to transfer back to the old app.
I tried to re activate the old one multiple times, but no, would not go back
Have tried phone support to re activate the old app but no, they can’t help.

Edit, yes you can go back, as long as you get to speak to correct people in UK call centre. Lady I spoke with in overseas Call Centre said not possible, but second call when I got through to British chap in UK Call Centre got rid of this new app and got the old one back

Shows the developer did not even read my initial review carefully enough.
Very easy to migrate TOO, the issue was it was so poor I wanted to Migrate BACK to the UK one
As others said, if they do force us over to the new app, then it is a very good reason to find a new bank

Poor in comparison to previous HSBC app

I switched to the new app as an email stated I would no longer be able to use mobile banking unless I did so. Unfortunately the new app does not have all of the functions of the old app and the design is very underwhelming. The account shows a simple list of transactions, but does not show in detail how much you had left in your a/c at that time. There is just a total at the top! Hopefully an upgrade will be sorted soon as it does appear to be a prototype at this moment in time. I feel like I have been downgraded as I live in the Channel Islands!

Very little info

Where is the fast balance page? Seems over simplified next to the old app. I don’t want to have to log on to desktop for info I had on previous app.

No improvement

No improvement on the old app. Logging in is not as simple and the lack of account information is annoying. You cannot easily see daily balances, just a very long list of transactions which doesn’t help in budgeting.

Easy to install but a little basic

And now my online banking won’t work even though it worked faultlessly prior to app down load. Competed secure log on re sets and spoken to contact centre but still can’t log on . Very frustrating , have payments to make !!!

Can’t set up new payees

This is such a basic app. I now have no way to set up a payee so I’ll actually have to write a cheque and post it. I can’t get into my online banking either because I’m supposed to log into the app and generate a secure code. But I can’t see anywhere to generate the secure code on this extremely basic app. I really miss the old app. It was a lot better.

Is this a scam?!...

Awful app, far less functionality than the main HSBC app, in fact I’m still wondering if it was a scam and I’ve actually been hacked.
Doesn’t really deserve the one star I’ve given it!
If it is this rudimentary in appearance because HSBC are adopting an ‘agile’ approach, could they not wait until the offering was at least equivalent to what we had previously?
I can’t even see my running balance from day to day as previously, only the current balance and I use the running balance at various points in the month, how on earth do I do this now?
Shocking and I hope it improves in short order.

Easy & Fast But Now Needs Developing

It’s clear to see that HSBC have sacrificed features to make the new app easy to use and fast to access, which works for me. People are complaining about the lack of the Fast Balance feature - why? I can now access my full account faster than I could with Fast Balance. Now you have got the basics right, can we have more features please? Then I will give it 5 stars!

It’s alright but nothing special...

This long overdue app works better than the last, finally allowing for Face ID support and removing some of the hassle the previous app had, but it is still much to be improved.
In comparison to the variety of other applications operated by their rivals, you would have thought they might introduce new features and compete but no, they haven’t. It’s a boring app from a very boring bank, and nothing special for me.

Poor relation

This is a poor relation to the UK app. You will lose the ability to see when your credit card statements have been issued and how much and when needs to be paid on your credit card. You will also have an annoying feature when you log out which asks you if you want to log in again. For those using the old iPhones this means you cannot minimise the app by touching the home screen. You must first press cancel.
Why issue a replacement app to customers which’s is worse than what they had before?

Shocking excuse of an app

I’m updating my review because the app is even worse than I first realised. The developers should be appalled at their effort - this is a lazy, abysmally put together app which took far too long to make. The fact that they didn’t even notice the update link took you to HSBC Canada really does summarise the effort put in to it.
My first issue is how boring the design is - grey and dull. Secondly the transactions list is not separated with date headers, just one long continuous line of transactions which is incredibly hard to read. Thirdly, despite specifically being told we would be able to setup new payees this has not been implemented. If this is due to local laws we could at least be told; if not I assume they just couldn’t be bothered. There is also no quick balance presumably again because they couldn’t be asked to put it in.
With the news that the old app will stop working I will be considering closing my account - you cannot provide such a poor service to customers just because they don’t live on the mainland. Sort it out, do your job properly and provide an acceptable product for us to use.

This app has less to offer than old one. What was the point of doing it? I feel like I opened app what was designed 10 years ago. Why would you get rid of fast balances? That was optional... Still not possible to add payees which is ridiculous. Honestly you’ve made worst app than previous one and I thought it’s not possible. Great achievement 👎 And please don’t give me that “you’re sorry” because with this app you are laughing at faces of your customers. One star is way too much for that 💩 what you’ve made.

Clear as mud

When in the old app, got told to download this one. Did so. Deleted the UK ap. Went through two of the three authentication steps. Got to the third called “generate a logon security code” and the first instruction said, “launch the HSBC app where you have set up your Digital Secure Key”.
That was on the old app that I’ve since deleted and now can’t get back on because the UK has kicked me out of it!!!! Ahhhhhhh!!!!

Don’t ‘upgrade’**(see update)

A very disappointing app. Unfortunately I followed the advice to delete the old app and now I have to work out how to get it back. One major feature that missing - as far as I can see - is the ability to generate a security code.
**Happy to update the review and rating. You can use Face ID to generate a security code, which is great. It took a call to HSBC to find this out because the app wasn’t entirely intuitive (suggest words such as “Use Face ID to Generate Security Code” might be better). Still can’t set up new payees in the app, and the lack of information available is something to work on.

It looks like you were told to develop a banking app in 48 hours and rush it out to meet a tight deadline... Half the useful features are gone, and the design looks like an early prototype, not a finished product.
Really disappointing guys, why are CI and IoM customers the poor relation?

Not customer friendly

Set up did not transfer security data over from old app as stated so had to go through full set up again. Then found no regular payment details from accounts except HSBC credit car on app! So will be very time consuming and frustrating to set up again as needs to be done on PC for first payment. Not great customer experience.

Awful!!! Do not swap from old app!!!!

Hsbc what have you done??? This is the most awful “upgrade” ever!!!!! I upgraded last night took one look at it and logged out and delete the new app! Not realising that when I tried to log in with the old app today that the generate a code has disappeared from the log on screen and now I can’t use the new or the old app. What a load of rubbish this is. Very frustrated and not a very happy premier customer at all. You guys have made a huge mistake with this upgrade more like a downgrade. I now have to call Hsbc to sort his out what’s waste of time and money!!!

Tried to transfer from existing app to this and somehow now locked out of both with no secure key!?

Far too simple

Didn’t think this app could get any worse, but it has. Literally all it is is a list of your accounts and their balances. Is there a reason why HSBC doesn’t detail your pending transactions?

Nightmare
