Not a reliable App

Too often unable to access my account as the App reports issues not loading. It is so unreliable. First Direct and other Banks do not subject customers to such issues.

Pointless bank

Why AGAIN do I need to write another review of this absolutely terrible, pointless app? Out of 11 bank accounts, this one is the only one I can never access several times each month. Imagine that, you need to access the account holding your money and paying your bills, only to get a constant error message!!!

Can’t use for my Isa !

What’s the point of an app if you can’t mange your ISA or savings account on line - access through the website is very “ clunky” even the support staff say there are bugs in it so an app would be the answer like every single other bank ? Come on Virgin you’re better than this !!

App works fine on wifi but when using mobile data it is terrible. Will only successfully log in 2 out of 10 times. Extremely inconvenient if you are out and need to move money between accounts. I’ve had to go home, move money then return to the shop to pay.

Worst banking app

I recently chose virgin m as my business account and hassles setting up the online banking left me regretting that decision.
The app requires information I have never received, says it can’t verify my sort code and account numbers, says it’s sent text codes to my mobile which never get received and their ai chatbot is 1st generation so horrendously poor.
If you want an account with ease of set up avoid Virgin at all costs

Worst bank to ever go with

I’ve been transferring money into this account and every now and again money would not show and disappear with no trace also when receiving a refund from a retailer the money also doesn’t show in my account more times than often this bank is not what it shows you it is not a bank but rather a conn those reviews they have of being a top tier bank is paid advertising a tactic used in modern times it shouldn’t be the case but unfortunately it is and they will likely respond to this review as saying we’re sorry for your unfortunate experience our reviews are in line with the current advertising policy and will continue to go on and say we value your feedback this bank is a conn and don’t believe what you see and hear nothing good can be said about this bank I’ve contacted trading standards in relation to this bank as they have not followed the legislation outlined by the government

Once again, we have an app that doesn’t work very well even when you get connected to it. ATM withdrawal problems again, unable to pay for items as card won’t work. Customer services won’t answer calls…….for a ‘professional’ service it is very very disappointing.

One of the most consistent and effective Banking apps

The ease of use for managing your money is in my opinion excellent. Saving pots really works just setup your payments for the end of the month and they will grow for what you need them for. Money disappears either way no matter how you try so it’s a good way to keep it!

Latest update is bad

So since the latest forced update the app is slow and sometimes needs restarting completely just to perform basic tasks. I had to put in a code that was text to me recently and after reading the message and going back to the app the screen was red and unresponsive. Why make things worse?

Transfer

I cannot chat about a transfer that happened yesterday that you sent to the wrong account the amount was £2500 to my son how needs to pay for fights to get back to England and put it into a account he has no access to. Has a ‘few problems’

Statements never load

The statements section never loads it just keeps saying “Retry” but never show anything. They are supposed to be there for 3 years and I can’t see 3 days. In this world of paperless life, this failure is terrible. There is no support for the app anywhere, it’s as annoying as the online banking on a laptop asking you to constantly go back to this app to approve the login over and over when it times out. If this had all the features I wouldn’t need a laptop but it doesn’t. Needs a lot more work including the red writing showing 2 messages but there is never anything, another fail

When I open the app I am faced with a message that says “sorry we are having a few problems we will be back up and running again soon” I get this message 9 or 10 times a day and the once or twice it does work , there is sometimes I’m half way through doing a transfer and it crashes. Buggy and annoying

I’ve been with virgin money for years now and every time I need it which is sometimes around 12 at night when I get off work, I can’t use my card at all to get food or anything and when I try to go on the app it always says “balance unavailable” and it’s so frustrating when I’m trying to do stuff. I’ve been waiting for 3 hours because I need to purchase something and it won’t allow me to get onto the app. Even if the app isn’t working and I have money in it , it doesn’t let me use my card and I have no other way of using my money. If it’s not fixed soon then I’m unfortunately switching to Monzo because it’s just unreliable when I need it and it doesn’t seem like anyone’s trying to fix the app. This isn’t me having a go. I’m just really upset

Shockingly unreliable

Fully updated, running on a fully updated iPhone 11. This app constantly stops working with the “oops something’s gone wrong at our end…” message. This is often at the most inconvenient times (ie when having to verify a payment). Restarting the phone sometimes works, restarting the app doesn’t.
This needs sorting quickly.

Now running on a fully updated IPhone 16.
Still no better, fails to log in with the same results as above.

Missing data

I can’t believe how good most of the reviews are on here I can only assume that most people don’t need to use the app in the way I do..,I have regular (monthly) payments from hundreds of customers which I have to check that they’ve paid when I provide the next months service and even tho I put in the exact reference that the customer uses it regularly doesn’t show all their payments thus leading me to ask for say 2/3 payments when they’ve actually paid up to date..so so embarrassing and it happens so regularly that I’m starting to think the app isn’t fit for purpose..I waste so much time scrolling to look for payments whereas my old Barclays app always worked perfect even when I spelt a customers name wrong..!! You get what you pay for I guess and if you only receive one off payments into your business I’m sure it’ll work fine for you..

Never EVER works

What an absolute joke of an app. I have never come across an app that straight up REFUSED to work on mobile data. I had it on my phone for a year or two and it never, ever worked when I needed it to; literally what is the point in this app? if it never works when you actually need it? I got so frustrated with this pathetic app not working that I uninstalled it off my phone and downloaded it onto my fiancée's phone because, with no hint of a joke whatsoever, I’d have better chance of my fiancée answering her texts ON SHIFT AT A HOSPITAL than this app working. I am not exaggerating, this useless app offers literally nothing and just takes up storage space? I don’t know how it takes up storage space BECAUSE THERE'S NOTHING. I’ve got concert tickets to buy tomorrow and my fiancée's in theatre tomorrow so I thought i’d better download the app just in case. After 4 months, I assumed they'd patched the issue, whatever it was. Open the app and get logged in..... only to be met with the "We are having a few problems. Sorry, we should be up and running again soon" message. Absolutely useless app, waste of storage.

Worst banking app ever Disgraceful customer service

Trying to close savings accounts with zero balances but as always Virgin Money make it difficult. I just want to cut all ties with this joke of a bank.
This is a terrible banking app. Constant messaging to tell you “ we are having a few problems “Then when it lets you log in “balance unavailable “I have complained about this 3 times. First time was told it was my device. iPhone 15!! Second time it was my connection. All my other banking apps work. 3rd time completely ignored. Only one thing for it. Changing my bank ASAP. Maybe Virgin should stick to planes and records and stay out of the banking world. I have contacted you multiple times. Sit on hold forever then get through to be passed from pillar to post. How about you contacting your unhappy customers. Judging from the reviews on here there is a lot of them.
For those of you having problems with the app being down. Its your fault. According to VM because you eventually log in and do what you need to do it’s not their problem. The problem is having other banking apps open in the background!!! I have phoned them today and told them to take a look at the reviews on here. We can’t all be doing the same thing wrong. They are not interested. The response I got is I’m not going to look at it because I didn’t investigate your complaint. disgusting attitude. Reported to the financial ombudsman today. I suggest more people do the same.

Best bank I’ve ever had

I’ve had a couple of banks over the years but I have to be honest this is the best I’ve ever used since it changed from the old Yorkshire bank which I also had
The staff well every time I go in which is not that often are so lovely and ever so polite and friendly. They help and offer every single bit of advice possible
The reason I don’t go in as much is that I can do all I need on the app or my online banking if you like well it’s far easier to navigate than any of the others I have had any problems I have (very rare) that’s easily rectified with a simple phone call again the on call staff ever so friendly and polite and ever so grateful for your custom all in all Virgin Bank the best for me in the whole of Europe FACT THANK TOU VIRGIN MONEY FOR EVERYTHING

Totally unreliable

App almost never lets me log in first time, constantly pops up with ‘we’re having a few problems, come back later’. It’s so hard to actually log in and is therefore completely unreliable. I’ve lost out on buying tickets online as the payment website has asked me to confirm the payment in the app but I couldn’t log in so my purchase timed out. It also has errors in the savings pots system, sometimes telling me I’ve allocated more money than I have in the account - how could that even be possible?!
It’s just not fit for purpose but any time you complain, the tech support suggest it’s a problem with your phone. No it isn’t because every other app works just fine!
Look on the Facebook page - all posts are full of comments from people complaining about issues with the app but they refuse to do anything about it, just blaming the customers and telling them to check their phone settings. Totally unacceptable.

Would give no stars if that was and option

The app is simply terrible, i hate it. It’s just a struggle to look at your accounts, not loading up, crashing, closing the app down, i get more there’s something wrong than anything else.
Trying to send money to my other banking apps is a ball ache, you get to the confirm payment, then it crashes and closes the app down. When i’m walking and trying to swap my money about, it doesn’t seem to like that and it crashes, so i have to stand still for it to work.
Earlier this year i thought i’d lost my wallet, so i froze all my other cards on my other banking apps no problem, but when i came to my virgin app, guess what haha….it wouldn’t load up, when i actually needed the app to work it didn’t. It took a good 36hrs for it to eventually load up which is absolutely ridiculous. Luckily my wallet was in my hotel room, but that is not the point, my account could have been cleaned out because of this terrible app.

Functional but Glitchy

The app itself looks good and is relatively easy to use, full of useful functions with only some missing (like ability to freeze/unfreeze card and payment links). The app updates quickly and making payments is fast. Live chat support is limited but works when it needs to and the app is great for budgeting due to extra features. However, I do find regular glitches with the app, hence its slightly lower rating. Face ID doesn’t work properly so I had to deactivate it and the app randomly crashes. A few times it’s also randomly locked resulting in a slightly awkward call to support. I’d still recommend due to the bank and offer itself but don’t expect a flawless app experience.

Poor customer service

Yet again I am left confused at the end of a month. On the date my husband’s pension is paid into our joint account an allowance for housekeeping is moved to my personal account. For the last two months this transfer has not been shown in my account on the due date although the balance is as expected. Last month I thought it was just a glitch so worked around it. This time I took it further. I had a ‘chat’ with a robot, always frustrating and a waste of time. I then had a ‘chat’ with a person who couldn’t understand why I had a problem. In the end I had to wait another 24 hours for the situation to correct itself. This is not the kind of service I expect. I can’t even go and check the situation at a local bank as our branch closed a few months ago. My husband is talking about moving away from the bank altogether and he has been a customer for almost 60 years. I assume this will be blamed on a computer error but human beings manage the computers and it really isn’t good enough.

Absolutely dreadful

Tried to set up a new current account with Virgin but have been thwarted by this appallingly bad app that they recommend for the best user experience. Constantly crashed during the application process. I persevered for 3-4 hours over a couple of evenings and still can’t even get to a stage where I have a customer number let alone a live bank account. In contrast, it took around 10 minutes to set up a live savings account with Trading212 - which is how it should be in the 21st century. Tbh, I was only setting up a Virgin current account to access a better rate on some ISA savings that I already have with them. But this terrible, flaky app experience means I’m now no longer interested in being a Virgin Money customer at all and have transferred my savings elsewhere. I’d give this app zero stars if I could!

Does its job fantastically

This is “THE” banking app. It does everything I could ever want. The only thing I would change for me personally is that when you open the app and login that I wish it didn’t open with the balance of all your accounts. I wish it just showed you the account names that you clicked then through. This is just my opinion and the reason being is for security and personal safety. When with other people or out and about you sometimes want to check balance of current account and I have people able to see savings account which I would not like broadcast. People are inquisitive by nature and will glance over when you are on your phone while in company and I have had people make a comment on occasion where as for the sake of checking my current account balance or transactions my savings account is exposed. Just something that bothers me. Notwithstanding I still love it and for all I know every online banking app might do it this way.

WORST ACCOUNT EVER

I am extremely dissatisfied with Virgin Money and their atrocious customer service. I have been dealing with an issue where my funds are stuck in a closed account for over a month now. Despite sending more than 20 emails, I have received no meaningful response or resolution.
When you try to call their customer service, it takes at least two hours to get connected to someone. After finally getting through, they ask you a series of security questions only to transfer you to another department where you end up waiting for hours again. It’s an endless, frustrating cycle.
To make matters worse, they don’t have any branches in London, and most of their branches are closed. This lack of physical presence makes it even harder to resolve issues.
It feels like they are just scamming people and holding onto their money without providing any real service or support. This entire experience has been incredibly stressful and anxiety-inducing, especially for someone with health concerns like myself.
I strongly advise anyone considering Virgin Money to look elsewhere. Their service is abysmal, and they do not care about their customers at all. Avoid Virgin Money at all costs.

Wont give me my money!!!!

Supposed to have a daily limit of £500 at cash machine But would only let me draw max £200 so tried again £40, £20 and £40 - the app says i drew another £20 where is that other £20 and why limit me!!!!!!!!!!!!! Edit:-(used a Nat West ATM as there are no VM ones near me since they have progressively closed the branches- cannot wait for Nationwide takeover!) the missing £20 was returned to my account automatically later. I rang up to complain - to find that last time when my card was replaced at my request I was sent one without a pin so I complained again - that was replaced with one with a reduced daily limit of £300!!!! The only way I can get my limit increased back to £500 is to get another new card which will have a new pin. Pin takes two more days than Card to arrive so my old card was left active to allow me get at some money whilst waiting. Ps took 6 months to add (new build) new address to address listing so I could change address!

Crashes too much!

This needs to be fixed ASAP. There’s been way too many instances where the app doesn’t let me access my account. Whether it’s for starting up or sending money. The message ‘there’s something going wrong on our end’ is really annoying. There’s been days where I couldn’t access it which made life difficult and it’s a shame because the functionality of the app isn’t too bad. FIX THIS!
Another thing that would be good would be if you can see how much money is left underneath the transaction fee when you are looking at the list, just so it can tell you how much you account is looking like after the fee. Please can you make a feature that is able to group the transaction type and also to give you the option to add a tag? I. E. If the app can’t read that you made a transaction at a coffee shop, you be able to add it yourself to expenses or groceries. Just so it’s easier to keep up with and to budget. Thank you!

Disappointed

Up till last week the app work ok, but since iOS 17.4.1 update it crashes constantly. I’ve been able to get in a couple of times but no longer. I deleted the app to reinstall it but… I’m not able to sign in. The quicker VM is taken over my NW the better. That app is flawless. Sorry but I think I’m going to jump ship to another bank. UPDATE: I went into my branch and had the issue resolved. My account had been blocked so I couldn’t change my password. A young chap helped me reset my password and got me back on line. It’s just a shame I had a negative experience. I’d been with the Clydesdale Bank for nearly 45 years with no real issues. Virgin money still has to prove themselves.
2nd UPDATE 19 Apr 24. I’ve just tried to login to the app - and yet again it keeps flashing and then crashes.
I’m definitely changing banks this time - not happy 😟

Backward step in design (and again)

Apparently won’t let me write a new review (feb 24).
Transaction history not showing before Nov 23. It definitely used to go further back than this, why has it been shortened? Went to try the ‘let’s chat’ function, and i only get a blank screen.
Not hopeful that you do anything with these comments as there were lots of negative reviews last year regarding the changes made, but nothing has been improved since then. Down to 1 star as a result.
Whichever Spring 23 update changed the format of that count display in the app is terrible. It’s a huge backward step in user experience. I don’t need a ‘daily spend’ line right next to my transaction showing the same figure. What I would like is how it was before - so I can see what the balance was after transactions/paying off credit cards etc, and then let me compare that to previous months etc. if customers only want the headline balance amount, well that’s there on the landing page anyway! app is far less useful than it was, sorry.

Pretty good

This is quite a good and reliable banking App and I’ve used an afukw out of them! Loses one of the five stars because there are a couple of shortfalls. The most irritating one is that when you logout the app immediately tries/offers to sign you back in and if you chose the Face ID option it will look at you, recognise you, and immediately sign you in again when all you wanted to do was sign out. So you have quickly to turn your phone away from your face to prevent the unwanted logging in. That’s a bit farcical and any initial testing of the app by whoever was designing it should have picked that problem up then. Virgin Money is very good and the app is Ok ish but it always annoys me when there has been a failing in the apps design and testing, and this is not uncommon with banking apps. This app requires an option for re logging in being presented when Face ID is being used. It’s farcical as stated. I was asked by a friend “why are you turning your phone away like that?” and when I explained she was equally surprised at the feature, although we can see a funny side, my silhouette!

Simple & Useful

I’ve never had any issues with the app personally. I’ve always found it easy to use and the app itself is easy to navigate. It does exactly what I need it to and I can’t really say much more! The only issue I’ve found though is with the most recent update, there is a problem when trying to put a cheque into an account - it causes the camera to invert and become entirely impossible to take a photo of the cheque. Never experienced this before but it’s very frustrating considering with all the bank closures, this app usually saves me a near 40 mile round trip to a bank. If this could be addressed, I’d be giving the app 5 stars

Great app

Savings pots often malfunction

When allocating money to savings pots often it will either: a) not go into them and instead sit in the ‘Not in a pot’ bot; or b) allocate twice into the pots. Scenario a) is annoying but liveable. Scenario b) stops you from using your savings until you manually redistribute the allocations. Further when you’ve put more into the pot than your savings target, when it forces you to reallocate you can only have a figure which is up to the savings target. Either the designers never UX’d / UAT’d this app, or Virgin massively skimped out. Either way I’m now looking for a different bank. I don’t have time to remember the amounts I put in each pot and then manually reallocate the sums in them. It has been like this for well over a year. Customer service in 2022 acknowledged it and reassured it would be fixed soon. Now August 2023. Absolutely daft.
Edit: it’s as if you didn’t read or perhaps instead didn’t understand my review. Perhaps the same person who made this app read my review. Let me put it clearly: There is a serious fault with the savings pots element of this app.

Some significant Issues

App used to be pretty good. However it has become increasingly temperamental.
There are frequent issues accessing and whilst using the app, usually accompanied by an error message stating “Oops something went wrong” and that the particular service or operation cannot be completed and to try again later. The issue often persists despite closing and re-opening the app or restarting my phone.
Separately, recent updates now cause text to overwrite amounts and confusingly show payments out/debits without a negative sign (so they appear positive like a payment received).
The situation is compounded by the removal of the running balance details. If I want to monitor how my cash flow is moving over a period I can no longer do this by scrolling through the period. Instead, I can now do this only by looking at a statement, which of course I cannot do for the current period. Please reinstate the running balance feature which shows the position at the end of each day on which there has been a movement in/out of the account.
There is nowhere in the app to provide feedback either, suggesting the bank is not really interested in customers’ experiences.
The bank may also need to improve the pre-release testing and the diversity of opinion in any focus groups used to test out changes and undertake better polling on the information and services customers want from the app.

Useless banking.

So far have made four trips to nearest branch to sort out problems, 25 mile round trip plus parking.
Helpline phone queues at best an hour or longer with only ‘chat’ lines at the end of it.
Your robotic ‘chat’ lines are useless “I do not understand” being the usual answer along with an Encyclopaedia Brittanica length of alternative websites to investigate in the hope of finding an answer; on my phone ! l don’t have the time or patience to do your job for you; you need to employ more people who can understand your ‘customers’ who should be your main priority !
Overall you fail on most aspects of customer service with regard to your initial response, time, robots, find your own solution from within our vast AI data bank !
So two stars is pushing it in your favour and one star would be more appropriate, don’t just file these complaints regarding your abysmal customer service, do something about it to make your customers happy !
I have had after hours on the phone and trips to your bank branch in attempts to speak to a human being, four successful results with various members of staff who have resolved ongoing problems, but I shouldn’t have to spend hours and days trying to get sense out of your obstructive customer system !

Terrible app

I’ve been using this app for a number of years now. The app is terrible. Very unreliable, usually doesn’t work on the 1st of every months and more recently I’ve not been able to get access to my saving money pots in the new transfer section meaning I cannot move my money about. I’ve contact them on social media and all I’m told is to uninstall and reinstall the app. That solves the problem for a few hours and then it reverts back to not working again. It’s let me down a number of times when I’ve needed to transfer money between accounts immediately. In my 35 year working career I’ve never moved banks. I am now. The unreliability of this app is shocking. Other people also experience these problems if you look on social media and it’s been going on for months! It’s rubbish, avoid!

Ageism

Initially this app worked fine on my phone but now it is useless because the app software upgrade does not function with my older operating system- this is essentially ageist and discriminatory. I should not be forced to buy another phone just to continue using this app as my phone works perfectly for my needs, I may not be able to afford another phone either. The app should have a patch that allows for those people in my situation to continue to use its functions. Last time I looked, discrimination was illegal. Needless to say this is very disappointing.
Having received the stock automated reply from Virgin that the app has to be updated for security reasons, I stand by my original statement. The reply shows inherent business disregard for those people that either are not in a position to upgrade or simply do not wish to as their current phone works perfectly adequately and as I stated is blatantly industrial ageism, hence discrimination.

It’s amazing…when it works

Often times I try to open the app and I get the message “somethings gone wrong on our end…etc” and I can’t even open the app to check or view my balances - let alone transfer or take any action with my finances . I have been ignoring this issue for a while now but for the last 4 months it has been a really pressing issue. This is really detrimental, when I need to access my finances and I can’t physically have that (even though it’s the whole point of online banking) it makes things very difficult in our capitalist money oriented day to day life .
I mean this is something that can happen multiple times in a single day. Which can be imagined is a pain . I don’t write reviews often but I am so fed up. After trying to manage my finances 5 mins ago and seeing “somethings gone wrong on our end” it was my last straw .
Please please please fix this - it has never been such a pressing problem .

Hello, I enjoy using the Virgin Money app, because it is so simple to use. I was disappointed though to discover that when I was transferred to this bank, I lost my 50 years standing as a customer with The Clydesdale Bank. Now my credit reports show I’ve only had a bank account for 3 years & that is with Virgin Money.
What I was interested in though was being able to sort out alerts for when money is deposited into my Current account. I saw a You Tube video that says to set up look under ‘more’ but there is no ‘more’ section, enabling me to do this. Can you help with this please? Thank you for reading, I appreciate your time and accept you are probably very busy.

App is a pain!

Generally everything is easy enough to navigate until you try to send a payment to someone.
Despite trying to send payments to an existing recipient I am getting asked if it’s a scam and then I have to select a reason for sending a payment to them - justification for spending? And this can be for small payments of anything from a few pounds which quite frankly is not relevant to the transaction so I just select the top/easiest/quickest option to get through the many screens before I can send the payment. I get checking there’s no mistake/fraud but the quantities of ‘checks’ is verging on obsessional.
I’ve opened a bank account elsewhere, who has reasonable checking, and use the virgin back account for the bare minimum.

Experiencing bugs

The App is very easy to use, but recently I’ve been experiencing bugs when attempting to use it.
Firstly when attempting to make a payment in another application, I get the usual authorise payment in your banking app, however the banking app was having an issue, sorry we have a problem our end try again later, doesn’t allow me to complete my transaction. There needs to be an alternative way to authorise payments.
Secondly, when attempting to tag transactions, currently I can tag 2 maybe 3 transactions then the app freezes. After closing & reopening the app, most of the tags for payments are no longer available & ‘my tags’ have disappeared.

2015 called and wants its banking app back

Clunky and lacking basic features. Need a separate app to see my credit card and there’ll be a yet another app for investments. Design is poor. Sure, it looks nice but the developers obviously don’t test functionality - try creating a standing order on an iPhone 14 Pro and you’ll be desperately stabbing the top of the screen to try and hit the save button. Can’t add the debit card directly to Apple Pay from the app. There’s a button, but it doesn’t copy any of the credit card info across and you need to enter it manually. Also, the service to check the payee name against account details never works so you can never be sure you’re paying the right person.
This would all be fine if it were 10 years ago. But I’m 2023, when others like Starling and Revolut are really investing in their apps, it’s unacceptable. Even my Royal Bank of Scotland app is better than this.

App does not work - avoid

This is the worst experience I have ever had with online banking. I have several online financial accounts and all work well. This app has not let me access my new virgin account and this has been the case for the last few weeks. My iMac lets me in intermittently (so my passwords etc are correct) - but won’t let me into my account - however the phone app (iPhone 13 with up to date software) won’t let me in at all. I opened an account early December and still cannot access my money. Their online chat service is a robot and gives no help at all for logging in. Their answermachine gives no indication of where you are in the queue or how long you need to wait (tried twice and given up) and I have had no answers to recent emails. Appalling that you cannot access your own money for nearly a month and all communications with the company have failed
The app team have now replied to the above comment asking me to phone the same number I have tried previously! Just tried again this afternoon and again had to give up. I still cannot get the app to let me in. I have put in a formal complaint that I can’t access my money and I am now going to switch banks as the lack of communication and support is ridiculous

Useless (not just the app) ever since it rebranded from Yorkshire Bank

First the app: It crashes just about every time I open it. Now the bank: Staff are now ignorant and arrogant. This can only be because the management have told them to be like that. I recently wished to re invest a £20k ISA and asked a few key questions but I was shocked when a two bit 20 year old told me he didn’t want to keep repeating himself when I asked him to explain in detail what I had already asked him. Needless to say I’m now going to invest elsewhere and if the amateurish attitude continues I will transfer my banking to a proper bank like The Nationwide.

Hate the app

I’ve been with my other bank for over 35 years and when the app came out it was so easy to install & has always been easy to use. I can do just about everything that can be done in the bank but the virgin app is terrible. It’s constantly crashing so I can’t get on it. If I’m transferring money I have to tell it why I’m sending it, what does that have to do with you, it’s my money. Although we have a joint account we have to have different log in details so my hubby can’t connect he’s saving account to it but he can’t see to use the app because of his eyesight. When he does try he gets thrown off if he makes a mistake & has to ring the bank to get the lock lifted. My other bank allows us to have all accounts under the control be log in. I seriously thinking of switching now, just didn’t want the hassle of informing the private pension companies.

Bug fixed but annoyances remain

The virgin money app is generally pretty good. It allows you to view all of your accounts of and transactions but there’s a few areas that it could be improved.
The first is with exporting statements, for some reason when you want to export a statement it doesn’t use the standard iPhone send menu so there’s no option to email it to yourself - this is crazy! They should either switch to using the standard send menu or even have a button to just email a copy of the statement to you (like Moneybox).
The next annoyance is with the statement lists, for some reason the dates go back to when virgin money appears to have come into existence rather than just showing you a list of the months since you opened your account - this wouldn’t really be a problem if I didn’t have to go through and click everyone to try and clear the previously mentioned bug.
Finally, and this really shouldn’t be something that I’m having to point out, there doesn’t seem to be anyway to see the current interest rate of accounts in the app. Why isn’t it listed under more info in each account? Having to go to the website is just annoying.

Honest feedback

The app is very good and I get most of my banking done on here. However, when I needed to complete an international transaction Virgin Money was found to be wanting. I was told my app can be updated and I did the application via the chat. How ever that was 2 months ago and still nothing. After filling in 15 pages of paperwork and 3 weeks I finally made the transaction which has now had implications on my business. On top of this certainnmembers of the Clydesdale part of the business are extremely rude and unprofessional, not what I would expect from a Virgin company.

Easy to use, but lacks a few important features

First of all, I would like to say, the app is very easy to set up and easy to use as far as banking apps goes it’s easy to open an account via the app which is brilliant. However there are some missing features. that’s what I would like to see in the future release. One been card controls such as the ability to freeze your card in the app or freeze in ATM. Withdrawals via the app, but the one I would like to see most is the ability to see your pin via the app. The app already has Face ID or touch ID as a security measure having the ability to view your pin and authenticate in that with Face ID is a big mission for me, it’s also a security feature so pins don’t go missing in the post and it’s also Alixis ability feature for someone who is visually impaired who may not be able to read the pin from a piece of paper. However, keep up the good work

Unable to transfer from Saving Pots

Following the update of the App several weeks ago I have been unable to transfer funds out of the savings Pots when using my mobile phone (iPhone 12, OS 15.7) As has been reported by numerous people already, the screen shows only the first two pots, but no means of selecting them to allow a transfer of funds out. I had to delete and reinstall the App if I wanted to transfer, but found this only worked once. Once the reinstall was carried out it would soon revert to the same issue as stated above. I installed the app onto an iPad and found no issues with that, but I don’t have the inclination to carry this with me daily in order to use a bank App.
Surely an update to the App should have been out long before now to sort this known issue.
Maybe another bank has a better system in place?

Inaccurate notifications

I have the wrong facilities on the wrong accounts. Such as the ‘See how your account is looking’ is on a savings account with no salary paid in, but my current account no longer has this facility after many months of an error notification.
I receive regular notifications alerting me to money running low and to check my balance. I initially panicked as I had plenty of cash to cover all outgoings, only to find that I was not running low at all.
It seems like they are having lots of technical issues since becoming Virgin Money.

Excellent… Love this app

I have joined virgin money recently and absolutely love the app… A current account and savings account all in one place exactly what I was looking for with good interest rates.
I find the savings pots a little complicated but sure I will get the hang of it soon.
Like the fact you can set goals and it tells you how much to save each month to hit your target and can set up regular payments from your current to your savings. I’ve used Chip previously for savings but wanted an account that gives both savings and current account this is perfect.
Like the layout of the app and the fact it’s secure with face I.D
I’m switching over in June I’ve dealt with Mark on customer support a few times to answer some of my questions support is phenomenal and better than any bank I’ve had.
Really took time to answer my questions and look into things for me much appreciated.
Looking forward to coming on board whole process has been a breath of fresh air from start to finish… 5 💫

Beware iPhone 6 users

I have upgraded to the latest version of this app and it does not work on certain apple iPhones which unfortunately included mine - iPhone 6. I believe there may be problems with iPhone 7 too.
The problem is when the new app stops working, it also stops the internet banking from working because the internet banking uses 2 factor authentication with the authentication being processed by the mobile phone app - which does not work.
In order to get going with internet banking you need to uninstall the mobile banking app from your mobile phone, then phone virgin money support and get the to de-register the fact that you are using the mobile phone app. That way the internet banking will not attempt 2 factor authentication with the mobile phone app.
My advice is that if you have an iPhone 6, don’t upgrade this app with any version dated before 2 April 2022. This is based purely on the fact that virgin are aware of this problem and I am sure the next release will have it fixed.

Good app but tricky to set up

I just moved my current account to M-Plus. I was unable to configure my account using my iPhone 8, since the customer number field is in the bottom half of the screen and was obscured by the keypad. As someone who wears reading glasses, my default font is usually set to large. By setting the font temporarily to small, I was able to enter the customer number, but then had the same problem entering three characters from the password, even though the font was still small. This is a design flaw: if the data entry fields were anchored into the top half of the screen it would enable data entry irrespective of the font size. Once through this hurdle, I was able to configure the app to accept thumb print access, so this issue is restricted to first-time users.

App issue.

App had an update last week as did my iPhone. I now have to delete and reinstall the app daily as it freezes up on my account screen and I can’t access any of them. Please can this be sorted. I have deleted the app, cleared the cache, shut down my phone. I reinstall, it works for one maybe two transactions and then stops working. I can get into the page where it loads my accounts but I can’t access the accounts.
Can’t get through on the phone,live chat can’t help they tell you to call. After being with the Clydesdale bank for 30 years i have had no option but to switch bank accounts as the virgin app Is unusable. It is clear from all this feedback that there is an issue with the latest update and apples update but still no fix. Every transaction you make needs authorised via the app. Which does not work unless you delete and reinstall.
After two weeks of deleting and reinstalling the app daily with no sign of it getting sorted I have given up and moved to another bank. Sort this out Virgin before you lose all your customers.

Needs some upgrades

Update. Still poor. Projections took worse than useless takes one off PayPal transactions and repeats them dozens of times even though they are not recurring commitments. Makes what should be a useful budgeting tool confusing and unhelpful - no way to clearly se what “real” commitments are left each month other than running an offline spread sheet
Recently transferred from HSBC & the virgin app has some improvements over that but also some catching up to do. “Sweeps” are a great idea that can stop your account going in the red but it’s missing “balance after bills” which is really helpful for budgeting. “Pots” in the savings account is a great idea but the app makes it very hard to see the balance of each “pot” unless you go to “transfer money” making it hard to track which pot money has gone from and to. Relatively minor issues - hopefully this will be addressed to make it less clunky

Virgin money have had a terrible experience so far due to change over waiting 2 months for my card and then constantly having loading issues with the app taking 5/10 minutes to get in to view my balance, Virgin just seem terribly slow and behind compared to speed to other banks and how a simple think like sending me a new card can get messed up so badly I got sent a wrong card then for some reason my card was sent to the branch when I specified I needed it home delivered like my previous bank had always done, you want everything working best for yourselves and not your customers, virgin does not rate highly in my book never mind the fact they bought Yorkshire bank and now the customer service quality has dropped dramatically even the speed of your app is slower😂🤦‍♂️ you’re suppose to be bigger and better but you just seem fat and slow

Enforced change from my original Yorkshire Bank Account.

I had to change over from my Yorkshire Bank Account, or move elsewhere, which is a total hassle if you’re happy with your current bank.
Although Virgin have tried to follow the same online App format as the Yorkshire Bank one - it’s not as clear & straightforward.
I use my mobile for banking, which was easy & clear to see all the Payors & Payees, but the new Virgin format is too big for immediate quick checking of payments. I have to go into other pages for more detail. This is more normal sized print & easy to see the full names & details of all Payors & Payees etc.
I will get used to it, but find it very bright red & brash too. I will see how it goes.

Unintuitive App

I have had no fundamental issues with this app to speak of, unlike some of the other people here. However, the user experience is awful, it’s clear that Virgin Money hasn’t had the engineers to make a good banking app. It feels clunky to use, sometimes switches to a random website, features are hard to find, etc. You can’t freeze your card, add it to Apple Pay before it arrives, etc.
The only reason I even have this account is because of the best in class interest rates in this climate. If you have another bank that offers linking another account to theirs, that could be a good way to go about it. If not, using Money Dashboard or another aggregator will give you a way better experience.

Useless and buggy

The only two buttons it has to get you started with a new account application or to continue a new one are ilegible. Trial and error made the trick to know what was the correct one but once you capture your details, only errors with numerical descriptions popup but telling you nothing at all of what is the issue, as it just forwards you to contact support.
I have contacted support 4 times and communication regarding opening an account is also useless as we are promised each time “we will be contacted” after 1-3 working days, but the first time I waited too long the application expired.
Lesson learned, if you want things sorted you need to keep on top of the support team as nobody will contact you for any bugs or glitches, that are not your fault in the first place, and still need your inputs to get them sorted.

Awful buggy app and account

Was tempted to switch to VM from Starling due to switching offer and interest rates but now regretting and closing my VM account. App is awful, slow and buggy. App insists on a 16 char password but mine is 12 so took several days and many attempts to log in with debit card details which still kept throwing up errors. When I finally did log on, found various functions don’t work or unreliable - viewing docs often shows technical error, live chat keeps throwing up an error…one time I did manage to get through to someone on live chat but as soon as they replied it crashed the app and I couldn’t get the conversation back. Couldn’t log onto desktop site as it needs to verify with mobile app but that fails too on the website with another error. I was up and running with Starling in 10 mins and never had an issue so will be firmly sticking with them and closing my VM.

Virgin Money app not formatting on an iPad

I’ve just transferred from the Yorkshire Ban app to the Virgin Money app and it copied all the settings across correctly. The apps works in the same way as the Yorkshire Bank app except the accounts have different colour, which is fun but actually no extra functionality. The only problem so far is that you can only see the top half of some amounts and of the words such as “Your timeline” and “Transfer” on the “Your timeline” screen. Looks like the numbers/letters are in too big a font for the space allowed. That’s the only problem I have come across, otherwise it seems to work ok.
Also I’m having a lot of trouble finding a nickname that isn’t already taken, so I may not be able to this at all!!

Good app but room for improvement

The app is good but it could be five star. First, I wish that savings pots could be created to separate money without specifying goals and dates. I know that it’s like that to encourage people to save regularly but it should be optional where you can just create a pot and stick an amount in if you already have the money. The ability to ‘Freeze’ your card and view your PIN should also be added to the app and, if possible, a round-up spending feature on the current account which is linked to a savings pot like Monzo and Starling would be great!
I’m sure the ability to see other Virgin Money accounts such as savings and ISAs will be possible once the merger is complete.
