Digital Banking made simple
Manage your savings with our secure mobile banking app, giving you quick, easy and safe access to your YBS savings accounts.
You can view your balance and transactions and do many of the things you can with YBS online banking, whenever and wherever you need it.
** How do I get started? **
You’ll need to be registered for online banking with Yorkshire Building Society, and we need your up-to-date mobile number.
Once you’ve downloaded the savings app, it takes just a couple of minutes to set yourself up and get started with mobile banking.
- Open the app and enter your YBS online banking login details (username or customer number), date of birth and three random characters from your online account password.
- You’ll receive a text message or phone call from us with your verification code
- Enter this code into the app - You’re registered. It couldn’t be easier
- Next, we’ll ask you to set up Touch ID, Face ID or a six-digit passcode. And that’s it!
** What are the benefits? **
* Access - All your savings accounts in one view, just click on an account to see details of your transactions
* Security – Set-up Touch ID, Face ID or a Passcode for secure login.
* Transfers – Transfer money between your YBS savings accounts or to external accounts.
* Payments – Pay bills or settle up with your friends – all you need is their bank account details.
* Transaction history – View your transactions and deposits.
* Search and apply for a new savings account

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to be a YBS customer to use the app?
Yes. To use the app you need to be an existing YBS customer and have registered your account for online banking. We will also require an up-to-date mobile number. If you are a YBS customer but not yet registered for online banking, the process is quick and easy. You can sign up for online access on our website – ybs.co.uk/register.
Can I use online banking and the app?
Yes, you can use both online services to access your savings account, whichever is most convenient at the time.
Is the YBS app secure?
Yes. The app has been built with industry-standard security practices in place. You can only access the app via your secure passcode or biometric credentials and the app does not store any account information locally on your device. For more information on the security of the app see https://www.ybs.co.uk/security/index.html.
What can I do with the YBS savings app?
The YBS savings app will give you access to all your Yorkshire Building Society savings accounts from your mobile device. You will be able to check your balance, view transactions, transfer money between accounts and make faster payments along with many of the same services you can use through online banking on our website.
Can I use the YBS Savings app on multiple devices?
No, currently the YBS Savings App will only work on one device at a time. If using with another device, the app will log you out on your first device.
Can I use the YBS Saving app to view my mortgage account?
No, at present you can only use the app to view YBS savings accounts. We plan to introduce this feature in future updates.

App won’t open

When I tried to access the app, it kept going to the login screen, prompting me to put my password in, and once I input this it would go back to the same prompt. I ran the update thinking it would solve the issue but now it doesn’t move past the “logging you in” page. This is so frustrating because I need access to my account and there are clearly issues with the app. Please fix this!

Too slow

I’ve been a YBS customer for nearly 30 yrs and honestly have never had any issues or problems whatsoever, recently though (past few years) I downloaded the app, when I send my son or any friends money it doesn’t appear in their account for at least a day, I just wish it was a bit faster-also my card recently expired and I found out they don’t have that service anymore either, I’m off work next week and I’ll be changing to the RBS as my family use this bank and they seem to have all the services I require.

Not Set Up For Old People To Open New Account!

Tried to open an isa account as a new customer. Can’t do it on phone. Had do apply online and then had their third party outsource company Mitek check security online, kept failing so now my application has expired and have to reapply again. I think not! Your system is not set up for old folks like us and it’s not user friendly at all! So you’ve just missed out £20k+ money that I was going to transfer from an old matured ISA elsewhere. The joke is on you!

Best banking app by far

I have been using the YBS banking app for years, I also use 3 of the major high street apps and this one is easily the best. Not only does YBS consistently give the best interest rates I find the app to be intuitive, easy to navigate and satisfying to use.

Good app

App is improving, more functions being added.
In addition to renaming accounts, it would be great to be able to reorder them in the app. Would be helpful to have my easy access savings at the top. Interest rate shown without having to click through several options would be really useful too. Please can we also have access to secure messages, so annoying to be notified of an ‘important’ message and not be able to read it until you can view in the website.

Difficult Online Access

I find accessing my account difficult and confusing:
1. I expect to be able to operate on the App everything I want without having to log online.
2. Complicated Reference Numbers and account numbers with 8 and 10 digits. Utilise the Touch option.
YBS’s saving grace is the ability to speak to lovely staff in your Mkt Weighton office. Long may it continue. If it’s ever stopped I shall go elsewhere.

Stiil takes over 24 hrs to transfer money to a different bank. I can’t believe it ohm this day and age that it can’t transfer immediately like every other bank. Their response is the same cut and paste that they will pass in on to the their team. Clearly not much happening there as you have been told for months now

Login Failed

I’m able to log into my savings account on the web, but when using the same login credentials on the app it just says ‘Login Failed, there was a problem logging you in, try again’. So I tried again and it said ‘Login Failed, please try again’. So I tried again and it said ‘Login Failed, please try again’. So I tried again and it said ‘Login Failed, please try again’. Eventually I came to the conclusion that trying again wouldn’t get me anywhere so looks like I’m gonna just have to use the web which is frustrating, and thus making the app pointless enough to be rated 1 star.

No visibility to interest gained on the app

Limited functionality

The app appears to have very limited functionality. You can’t easily review current interest rates, review statements or request information. Overall it’s the most basic banking app I’ve ever seen and is disappointing.

Excellent app

Interest rates below those of many competitors but having said that, the app could not be any better. I particularly like being able to move money from my linked bank account to my YBS account directly from the YBS app - no need to go into the former to do the transaction.

Saving account

It is very easy to operate this account on mobile and much helpful especially for pensioners who sometimes cannot logon to laptop or computer
There is one big issue of security
I am not happy with withdrawal of fund from my account to any other bank account with different payees
If ever I lost my pass word or login details or my account is hacked any person can withdraw money from my account
I wish that any withdrawal from my account should be only credited and sent to my Nominated account in my own name
I wish to send a big amount to my account but because of security reasons I am not depositing
I had suggested through my email as well that withdrawal should only be sent to my nominated account but no one is looking into it

Worst banking app on the market - embarrassing

When it works it’s okay, but like many other reviewers it loses my details and requires me to reconnect my account details at least twice a week and quite often more than once a day. Currently won’t let me log in on either the iPad or phone. Am amazed it’s this bad despite problems having been reported by users for several years. Have accounts with four other banks/building societies without issues, but ybs is continual headache. ISA’s mature next month and will be looking at moving accounts to other providers. Followed developer advice and deleted app and started again. Worked for a couple of days but has kicked me out ten times in last fortnight and currently fails to connect on iPad and IPhone again. Absolutely useless

Improved experience

Since my last review they’ve fixed the bug issue of constantly having to sign up which is very good. They could maybe implement a few more things in the future however they’ve got the basics right to start which is good.

Fundamentally flawed

Have been trying to use this app simply to check. on a savings account for about 5 months. Every time I access it I get an error message saying “There’s been an error and you will need to reconnect your account”. I then need to go through multiple steps to get access, I just installed the latest update and it still doesn’t open in a straightforward way. Surely I should be able to just open the app and use facial recognition rather than go through this rigmarole?
I also receive an email thanking me for downloading the app every time I go through this process. I have now received this email 15 times!

It’s all so wrong now…

Have uninstalled & reinstalled it three times trying to fix the having to log in each & every time, that it had started to do. That bit seems sorted now but can’s do any transfers now. Huge green cross with the words ‘something went wrong!’ - argh! This is just ongoing hell with this app at the moment. It used to be brilliant, now it’s currently pointless.
Jan’24 Update - Having being out of the country for a few weeks & being unable to access my laptop has meant because of the ongoing issues, I have been unable to switch my funds around and have had to resort to using emergency credit cards. The app is not fit for purpose at all now. After many years, I have no choice but to close my accounts and find an alternative provider. So disappointing.

Not functioning for over a week

Problems with this app. Not able to make withdrawals. No notification from YBS that there is a problem. Only discovered an issue when tried to make a withdrawal to pay a bill. Not able to transfer funds elsewhere and no notification as to when this might be resolved. Very poor customer service. Most building societies will transfer money almost straight away but with YBS funds don’t arrive until end of next working day.

Was A Good App!

Can’t log in, as a message keeps saying, the app is going through maintenance. I have deleted and reinstalled, even closed device down. Works for about 3 times then this message appears again. It’s been this way now for quite a while, but has got worse over the last few weeks. I’m using latest iOS software with iPhone 14 with face recognition. Hope soon this can be remedied as keep logging into website is a bit of a pain with password, customer number, 2 stage authentication etc, etc. Otherwise, this was a good app.

A mortgage app that doesn’t show your mortgage balance

Hello, the above sums it up really. To be fair I’ve not had a single login issue; I use face recognition and this does nicely.
But I’ve got an offset account and mortgage and positive balance is shown clearly, but I must call the call centre every time I need to know the underlying mortgage balance in order to manage the offset amount. It’s not a big ask really is it? My Halifax & Barclays mortgages update daily so this really is technically possible. Please don’t ask me to get in touch, I did this a year ago, and you’ve not added some simple functionality. Please try to think about what features people need from a mortgage app; the actual balance, the interest accrued last month or day etc and the offset balance. One in three is okay, hence two stars.

App not working properly

I’ve used the app for some time now and until recently always found it simple to log in and use. However recently,it keeps coming up with an error message when I try to login to the app. I normally use facial recognition without any problem but now it requires me to enter my user name and characters from my password then set up facial ID. As soon as I logout, the app forgets me and I have to start the procedure all over again. It’s getting quite annoying now.

very very good accessibility

I am blind so accessibility is very important to me. This site is laid out very well quite simple and everything is where I would expect it to be. It is not cluttered with lots of images and pictures. I have yet to find anything on the app that I cannot do, or I have to ask for assistance with.

Going rapidly downhill

Have been using the YBS app for a few years but this latest update or series of updates has paralysed the app. I have to reconnect my account every time I’ve wanted to do something whether it be check a balance or transfer money within YBS or move it elsewhere. There biometrics which I had set up are having to be reset every time too I have had to reconnect now at least 5 times in the last fortnight. Three stars awarded now as in the past been great but no appalling - just averaged it. 😢

Was work fine but broke

Initially was working fine but since a couple of weeks ago, the app doesn’t save my account number and have to keep going through the process of putting in my customer number to log in.
Not sure if this is supposed to be but it is quite inconvenient having to go copy and paste it from my emails back to the app.

Does anyone check the functionality before releasing??

The app for iPad has been working fine for me, until now….
I’m a representative (through Power of Attorney) on the accounts of my elderly parents. Unfortunately, now when I open the app it tells me I have no active accounts - just displays a balance figure (which I assume is the cumulative amount of their accounts).
Nothing in the release notes says this functionality is missing/altered, so I can only put it down to someone not checking, or a policy of letting users debug the app??

Shame

A decent app to check your account but a big shame you can’t transfer funds from your bank account at a different bank into your YBS account which was the main reason I downloaded it . I’m new to YBS and thought it would be easy to add to my savings account but it means going into the branch which would be a lot less convenient than being able to do it on the app .

It’s ok but a bit slow

It took a good few days for to the account to open. It’s easy to download the app and setup but every time I open the app, it just hangs for ages. Sometimes I can get in and see my account but there have been a few times I can’t as it just sits at the first login biometrics screen whilst it’s thinks about it.
My starling ans Nationwide accounts log me in immediately.
I haven’t had a chance to use the app yet as I’m waiting for my money to transfer over but it looks simple enough to use. You can’t make any withdrawals for the first 14 days of opening an account but there is some clear messaging around this so shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Great App

Great App & can check savings & transfer between the same. Unfortunately I can’t see how to set up a payee in my account settings (online or in app); as the Halifax/Natwest apps; I had to call in branch to pay money into another savings account I have. This wasn’t convenient as I lost a whole morning doing this. So great app for seeing accounts & transferring within but not much use for anything else.

Unable to see my linked accounts

Over a month ago I had to action both my parents power of attorney’s. Whist one account now shows linked the other is not. Despite attempts by the branch to resolve the issue I have been told over the phone from head office that there is a problem with the app and certain accounts are not linking properly. This leaves me worse than before as my parents no longer have access and neither do I. I can’t even track the balance on that one account without calling the branch.

Worked fine for 6 months, but now useless

It all started to go wrong when like another reviewer, it would repeatedly log me out and make me set the app up again as though I had never used it. Now it won’t let me set it up at all; asks for the customer number and then the option to continue is still greyed out even when you’ve entered it.
Back when the app was working, not being able to deposit within the app was a chore, as it meant logging into the website to do this. I’m not the best at accurately counting characters from a password, and worry that I will get it wrong and block myself out again. Cambridge and Skipton allow deposits directly from the app.

Good ap

The YBS app is generally quite good. Don’t really have any issues with how well it works or what can be completed via the ap. The app is miles easier to use than the YBS internet banking site (although I think there is more functionality on the internet banking site); but it often doesn’t work and can be VERY slow - less so with the YBS app.

Excellent app and the developers respond to reviews

I recently wrote a one star review about being asked to set my preferences every single time I logged on. Well, the developers read it and have somehow resolved it, thank you.
It’s now back to the excellent app I am used to. Quick, efficient and with everything easy to find.

Have too KEEP reregistering

This app when it works is great, but when it doesn’t it really is poor. Every 5-10 times I use it there’s a message saying something has gone wrong and it makes me reregister with the app again and sends me an email saying thanks for downloading the app. I’ve had to re register 4 times today. Also won’t let me transfer to/from all my accounts on the app

Useless App for Mortgage Management

Its 2022, and this app doesn’t have the ability to manage your mortgage with Yorkshire building society. Every other bank or building society has this feature on their app!!
You can login via the web to see your mortgage payments, outstanding balance etc but the App doesn’t allow any of this. It’s Completely useless for anything mortgage related.
This should be a priority, yet I bet the developers will say they are working on it for the next 5 - 10 years. I can’t believe a major building society is so far behind.

Continuous crashing

This app on both my iPad and iPhone crashes almost every other time of use. A full signing on must then re-occur to get the app back, so I can view my account. And then another email from YBS welcoming me to the app. It’s pathetic in this day and age this poor service is allowed to continue. I shall almost certainly go back to using the local branch, meaning a bus into and out of town, well there’s no other workable option (really) available.
The developers gave the same response for the same faults to others over 18 months ago. Extremely poor in every respect. NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

Good app, more features please

The app itself is very well designed, easy to navigate, and doesn’t crash making it very reliable.
Adding the mortgage balance would be my main request, at the moment I have to login via the web/phone browser but having this in the app would provide a full user friendly and integrated experience.

App is useful but

The app is useful and gives you the information you need, but a simple money transfer with YBS seems to take ages and it’s called Faster Payment !
Expect almost a day for a transfer to go through from one account to another, both my own.

A good app with a few improvements would be much better.

This is a very easy app to use and so much easier than going on the website. Payment functionality and statement viewing is excellent. However it never seems to save new payees so you have to keep re-entering these, or do them on the main site. It would also be really helpful to view mortgage balances too.

Frustrating

I have tried to do a transfer for days and most of the time it is simply greyed out. If I can be bothered to log in and out several times than it usually does - eventually - sometimes offer me the facility.
Several times I’ve actually managed to start the process but then an error appears with absolutely no clue as to why.
Your technical department advised me it would be much easier using the app but that has proved not to be the case!

Can’t even log in

My account us actually with Chelsea building society, which I can log into fine online. I couldn’t withdraw any money as I wasn’t given the option so I went in branch ( which is not even close to me) to try and do it there but they requested my father to be there as he is the trustee on the account. Due to my dads working hours and how busy he is this simply wouldn’t be possible for atleast a month which I made them aware of, and so they told me to login to the app. As there is no app for Chelsea, I assumed it would be this one, considering I enquired at a YBS branch but it keeps saying failed to log in. Ridiculous! I can’t access any of my money.

Has to be reset all the time

More often than not when the app is launched, you get the message ‘an error has occurred’ and all your login credentials need to be loaded again before the app can be used. It is quicker to log in on a web browser! Other banking apps once set up don’t seem to have the same problem and can be repeatedly accessed using finger print recognition without ongoing issues. The app itself works well but the issue outlined above means that the experience overall is clunky and inconvenient.

Internet accounts.

Despite these accounts and the extra App set up for convenience they are not well supported. I can spend longer on the phone than I would travelling 12 miles to my branch yet still get poor advice. Thank goodness for the physical presence in (some) high streets it is still very much needed.

Keeps dropping out

The YBS App is great and easier than having to log in every time - l can now do all my banking on my iPhone and sign in using my fingerprint. The only problem I’m experiencing is that l am being told an error has occurred and that l have to set up everything once again... this has happened at least 6 times to me, not sure if others are experiencing the same. Also a little more info would be good when it comes to my payee list just so l can identify the correct account I’m transferring to... l recently paid a £300 bill to my Halifax card when it should have gone to Yorkshire bank ( both cards are connected to Scottish banks and l ended up with not enough information showing on the app to pay the correct bill)

Does what it says on the tin but missing bits

This app is advertised as managing your savings which it does and makes access to your accounts simpler but it is missing functionality. As a customer with an offset tracker mortgage the remaining mortgage balance is essential information for managing my offset savings account. I look forward to a future update when this account is added and the app would then be 5* for me!

Last update to app has affected transfer payments for me

Not sure what’s happened in the last update recently. But made a transfer which gives me no details of who I sent it to just “one off bill”. No idea where that came from, no way of checking where it went.
When the app went to process the transfer it brought me back around to a blank make a transfer page.l as if it hadn’t made it.
Also no email confirmation which use to happen quite quickly. Still waiting 10 hours later.
Will revert back to online banking via desktop as doesn’t feel secure as it use to.

Not working

Each time I try to log in on iPhone 12 with latest software, it says something has gone wrong and I have to go through the registration process and fingerprint ID / Face ID setup every time .
It works once and then back to square one next time I try to log in.
Currently a waste of time !!

Why ?????

After latest update had to register all over again on both devices I have the app on, both of which are up to date re software.
Expected better.
I’ve given up on this app, see above, still have to reregister but also it now says the PIN number is wrong.
It’s been deleted and I’ll carry on logging on through website.
Reading further this app is only available on one tablet/phone currently (why?) that probably answers why I was having issues with reregistering. Not much thought gone into it when other mobile banking apps can be used on multiple platforms.
I’ve given it another try using just on my phone, so far so good, so given 3 stars and hope for improvements.
Further I must say it’s the only developer that has bothered to respond to my reviews so I guess that’s worth another star.

Hit & miss for transfers

Great to have an app which is much quicker to get in to than the normal web page but trying to transfer using this is hit and miss. I’ve tried 3 transfers over the last 3 days. The first two took forever because you can’t actually press the continue button after inputting the account info because it’s too far down the page. Sometimes it suddenly starts spinning and the payment will go through but I’m still trying to send a payment I’ve been attempting for 3 days. Very frustrating. It’s easier to phone or log in on the old page if you want to do anything more than check your balance.

Poor app poor customer service

I set up a YBS savings account and wanted to set up regular payments from it but that’s not possible. I thought use the app as I can do it manually every month, payment function does not work. I’ve tried to speak to customer services but the phone system seems to be designed to make it hard and wind the customer up. I’m looking at moving my money elsewhere.

Good app, but often crashes

The app is essentially good. It does not have quite as much functionality as other banking apps, but perhaps YBS will continue to develop it.
However it frequently crashes. I.e. when trying to log in it will say there has been an error and you need to re enter your online banking details.
You then get another email welcoming you to the app, when you might have been using it for sometime.
Hopefully this is being worked on. Haven’t come across this on any other banking app.

Very basic and clunky

Disappointed with the feel & functionality of app, especially when compared to the best banking apps. One urgent request: Please increase the time before the app auto-logs out, it’s crazily and unnecessarily short at the moment. Also have just updated to latest version and it takes me through the whole registration & verification process again. So frustrating and unnecessary, especially if it will happen every time a new version is released!

Finger Print Recognition Fails

When I first logged in and set up Finger Print Recognition the app worked fine for me and would have received 4 stars.
One day later and I can’t log in at all as after the standard Apple ‘log in with your fingerprint’ screen all that happens is the screen displays “Something went wrong” and ‘retry’ and no amount of retries will get me past that screen.
My phone is an SE2 running IOS 13.5.1 which shouldn’t be a problem for new software.
1 Week later ....... I decided to try to log on again (on the off chance) and everything worked fine. I normally turn my phone off at night so potentially the associated hard reset may have had an effect and I also delete all the cookies every couple of days so that may have had an effect also.
Either way the app seems to be working correctly now so gets a cautious four stars.

Room for improvement

Not a bad app, but just wondering why it won’t let me transfer to my other YBS accounts? I have one account myself and am named on each of my children’s accounts but for some reason am unable to transfer out of mine into theirs? Doesn’t make sense 🙁
Update: thanks for the response, and I’m glad that this feature has been added - HOWEVER, I’ve just tried to do a transfer (several times now) and it just keeps saying that something has gone wrong 😩

Great first release

The app is excellent as a first release
Some tweaks needed which I’m sure will be introduced such as being able to see full transaction details and full home telephone number
Been waiting a long time for the ybs app and provides me with what I need. View accounts and make transfers in a secure way
Look forward to seeing enhancements arriving.

Log in

Do we have to provide our customer number all of the time when you log in. My other banking apps use Face ID, annoying every time I log in I have to put customer number in and then wait for a text confirmation. Face ID or 6 digit pin would be far easier.

About time :)

Thanks YBS - been with you years but find the online authentication process tedious. The app works well, took 2 goes to log on and the look & feel isn’t as polished as some banking apps, but great to be able to see my balance, transactions & make payments without having to go online. Looking forward to a few more features & eventually seeing my mortgage account on there.

Poor UX, limited functionality and transfer issue

Welcome to 2013.
Initial setup relatively straightforward and ID&V easy to navigate.
UX is very poor - clunky graphic design.
Functionality is limited - beyond viewing and balances & transactions it looks like you’re limited to transfers and external payments, with the latter hidden within the transfer journey.
More worryingly you look to have a bug/integration issue in your transfer journey. I moved some money last night. The total account balance reset itself and it then took what looks to be an overnight batch for the transfer to take effect in the destination account. In the interim the 2 looked out of synch to me.
Feedback channel on your FB site took me to a rendered version of your website, which didn’t reflect that the App has been launched.

Will not do transfers

Can log in and see my savings accounts fine but apart from that it’s useless as if I try to do any transfers internally from one YBS a/c to another - both savings or try to do a transfer I get the message Unable to complete payment. Unable to complete payment from debters account - I took a screenshot if you would like to see it. If I go online via Laptop there is no problem making my transfers. So unless it starts to work as you say it will I will be deleting it which is sad as I was one of your first customers to sign up for online banking long ago and one of the first to join the queue to be told when App was ready. I don’t need an App just to tell me my balances them I know but one that saved me having to switch on laptop and go through all the tedious but necessary security checks. I hope you can fix this.

Easy to use!

The app is so easy to use, I can find everything I need and view the details of my account quickly. Logging it felt secure and was straightforward. I will still be visiting the branches but the app will be convenient when I'm not able to come in. Really liked how I could change the name of my accounts to show what I'm saving for, it's motivating to boost my savings! 5 stars!!
