BlackGentry is a members-only dating app designed for ambitious and intentional Black singles.

We are a classy community of singles who have themselves together and have high standards. Every profile is reviewed by the membership committee before being accepted. This way you get to be part of a group of quality singles who want something real.

Prospective members can download the app and submit an application. Once submitted, applications are placed on a waitlist and are reviewed by the membership committee. The membership committee looks for quality and detailed profiles with clear images. An applicant’s status can change from waitlist to accepted at any time.

Our community values are kindness, respect, integrity and growth. Our mission is to provide an online community that makes it easier for Black singles to establish healthier connections and relationships. Any profile that does not represent these values are rejected and removed.

All users can chat with their matches for free and also send a limited number of Direct Messages per day (messages to people you haven’t matched with yet). Users can choose to subscribe to Deluxe or VIP to enable more features.

BlackGentry VIP is an auto-renewable subscription service provided within the app. Activate BlackGentry VIP and you will get all the features of Deluxe (send unlimited likes, rewind profiles, hide ads, send unlimited direct messages, see who likes you, change locations, see Second Chance) PLUS ability to enable incognito mode and access Gentry Lounge.

Auto-renewable subscriptions for BlackGentry VIP:

1-month ($34.99), 3 months ($69.99), 6-months ($99.99), 12-months ($149.99) durations

Your subscription will be charged to your iTunes account at confirmation of purchase and will automatically renew (at the duration selected) unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.

Rubbish

Downloaded the app and I hate that because I’m in the U.K. I need to use my social media just to activate my account but if I used my United States phone number I can create an account with no socials attached. So I deleted the app also the reviews helped me with my decision as a lot of these dating apps are trash but seems like this one is the same.

Developers writing a response to try and gaslight the consumers instead of taking responsibility. Watch your ignorance will be your downfall just like all the other dating apps that crashed over time

Great app with immense potential.

The interface needs to be more faster and user friendly. As the times goes by I definitely would cultivate this feed back and improve definitely recommend! I also payed for VIP and I don’t feel like one… feels pretty much null, maybe something that feels exclusive to VIP ? Authentic profiles would also be great as sometimes you can encounter fake ones

And in addition fix the bugs where I have a match and messages but it doesn’t appear…

Downloaded after seeing their terrible instagram advert. Comments were off so should have been the first red flag.

Secondly, you have to wait days, weeks, months in order to be accepted onto the app which is highly weird and inconvenient in comparison to Hinge and Tinder.

Thirdly, extremely money hungry. This app will fail lmao. White people created their version and succeeded, yet us blacks will continue to fail and be behind. Avoid this app.

App is absolutely rubbish. Forked out £67 six month subscription with no like or response to my messages by those contacted. This app is scam and won’t recommend. I had to cancel the subscription but unfortunately, you can’t recoup back your money immediately you pay. No trial period as well to know if you are happy with the service. Rubbish

Usability isn’t great for free accounts

Would be helpful if there was a little run through of how the app works as it’s not like the traditional dating apps. If you like someone for example you have to be on a paid account to see each other so the only way to match with someone (with free account) is for you to message them. You also can’t delete messages only block them?

Pointless app. It’s designed to drain your money with little in return. You pay for a subscription but it doesn’t allow you to see your matches. The user experience is also very poor. Definitely stick to the mainstream apps and use the filters.

I like how you were able to verify it was you which shows Other people you are real but apart from that is app low-key forces you to fill out your profile to 75% just to start swiping people,

1. you can’t really filter your type unless you upgrade.

2.After like 30 swipes which I didn’t swipe yes to one you can’t swipe anymore and have to wait 12 hours to swipe again or pay £20 a month up to £119 a year depending what you choose just to have unlimited swipes

3.You can’t see who swiped you or ‘second chances’

4.Can’t use the search bar without having to pay for a subscription

5.you HAVE to turn your location on or you won’t be able to basically do anything on the app

6. There a pop up adds

in conclusion if you wanna use the app and experience it make sure you have your bank details ready at hand

All these great reviews are fake, please believe the critical ones

So I downloaded this app after reading the great reviews, I uploaded photos and filled out my profile only 3 people popped up and the search is quite varied. Not to sound conceited but I’ve always had a lot of attention so to only get 3 matches was disappointing.

So after 4 days decided to check back to see, here is what I found.

1. You can’t review photos that you skipped if you do they want

you to pay first.

2. You can’t view any profiles that like you as they want you to pay first.

3. Chat is not allowed as advertised as they want you to pay first.

4. You can’t view the people that like you as they want you to pay first.

5. You can’t comment on any profiles as they want you to pay first.

6. You can’t delete your photos as there’s no delete button on it, so my advice is do what I did, click on your photo and replace them with objects before you delete them that way they can’t use your photo without your permission, my photos are now of an electric jigsaw for DIY.

7. Last but not least, just have a look at the names in the great reviews, they’re all foreign or misspelt.

Not very user friendly!

I found that once you are signed and have access to make connections, it was very unclear on how to make contact with people you like other than being able to view profiles to either click to like, crush or click x to move on if you show no interest. But as I said I was unable to communicate with anyone I liked by sending a message to start up a conversation. Therefore, I am left disappointed especially as I had to go through a verification process to then not be able to connect with anyone!
