I have experienced numerous occasions re automatic top ups when balance falls below the set figure. On the latest occasion despite contacting Customer Support for assistance, my balance remained at £1:20 thus not allowing me to use the app to purchase drinks. Eventually had to remove all cards and replace accordingly. In store personnel fully empathised with my situation and confirmed that they had been on the end of angry customers with similar difficulties. I don’t have the same problem with Costa!!!

Installed a few months ago as new store opened near me. Tried to register on the app and simply got an error message saying something had gone wrong, try again later. Have tried repeatedly since then, uninstalled and reinstalled the app etc but have now given up: it always returns the same error message. I’m sorry but if the developer can’t get the basic registration to work properly on a modern and updated iPhone without some explanation then the app is not worth my time. I recommend not bothering with it.

I use the app twice a week to pre- order my coffee whilst on the train. I use the app for convenience so that I can get off the train grab my coffee and walk to work. Every week there is an issue - either my preferred Starbucks isn’t available for order, the app is super slow or I am constantly in a cycle of trying to pay for my coffee where it says “something is wrong” about 5 times before payment is actually taken.

The McDonalds app allows you to order in advance and then check in on arrival so that your order is fresh. Starbucks will charge you and make your order as soon as you click to confirm the order so yours drinks will be cold unless you are right outside the shop at the time

I just spent 10 min waiting for a double espresso (please train staff to complete small orders rather than press the coffee button and spend 10 mins sorting out other orders that take longer). I preordered through the app and was given single shot. As I was in a hurry I took it and left without checking. There is no way of providing feedback or reporting an error with your order through the app. Please fix this if you want people to continue using it.

Used to go to Starbucks quite a lot, albeit I always forgot to use the app, but it is literally down the road from my house and it was handy to pass through the drive through when out and about to grab a quick something to eat or a drink, but given that it now supports the atrocities that are going on in the latest war, where (so far) 3 million children have been killed, and a further 4 million adults, I will no longer be supporting this chain, I will delete the app on my daughter’s phone and my partner’s as well as banning my daughter from ever entering a Starbucks again! only gave it one star as it wouldn’t let me put a review up on zero stars! This app has always been very poor, with persistent issues including:
• Always defaulting to the login page on opening, before suddenly remembering it’s already logged in and loading the landing page - this always makes for an awkward hold up when there’s a queue waiting behind you!
• Lack of Apple Pay support is just unfathomable in this day and age, as others have said.
• Unable (unless I’m just struggling to find it) to peruse the menu without first arduously selecting a store… sometimes I just want to see what’s in the latest seasonal range.
Overall this app just feels slow and laborious, whatever it is you’re trying to do.
But now a new, big problem, as I see others are experiencing - out of nowhere, I can’t even open the ruddy app now! Just flashes up from my Home Screen for a split second, then closes. Pathetic. And, Starbucks, trust and believe you’ll be manually adding on the missed points, as well as refunding the gold level extra shots/syrups etc that I’ve had to pay for as a result of this hopeless app - there’s a pile of receipts adding up that I’ll be claiming back when I get a moment. At a fiver a drink, you’re not dodging those reward points!
In all seriousness, for a multibillion dollar business this truly is an embarrassment of an app, that does a real disservice to both the Starbucks brand and, more importantly, your customers. Please, just get it sorted.

At the moment the app is not even allowing to add money into my card. So I’ve tried deleting the app and reinstalling it, nothing. So I thought I’d remove my payment method and add that back in but guess what it’s not allowing me add that either now. I’ve even tried signing out and signing back in and still nothing. Not sure if there needs to be an update to fix this issue, because I get met with an “Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again later.” message. I use the app daily and now I can’t even add my payment method to add money into my Starbucks card. It’s been ongoing for several days now. Sure I can go into Starbucks and ask to put money into my card, but sometimes it’s convenient to do it on the app wherever I am.

Original review from 2020: My flat mate and I were out a walk and decided to place an order to collect. Had to download this new app, which doesn't accept Apple Pay meaning I had to enter a load of card details while standing outside the cafe. Not happy to even do this as I don’t see why Starbucks need to permanently store my card information in this day and age, is security not important to you? Due to various errors and issues the whole process took 20 mins before I could “top up” £10 (and why is this a thing!? Why do I need to “top up” a card by £10 to buy £7 of drinks!?) and place an order. One of the drinks I ordered didn’t even seem to get communicated to the store, which the staff put right, thank goodness the staff seem to have more sense than Starbucks HQ! I won’t be using the app again until I can place an order by Apple Pay for the amount of the order I’m placing. You know, the way every other company does it in 2020!

Handy, nice to skip the queue, but my god is it slow and unresponsive. It feels like every time I try to use it I have to wait for a minute or two at the location selection screen regardless of where I am or network conditions. Often times I lose patience and kill the app to try again. Favouriting a location is utterly pointless because the favourite list only loads after the main location search loads, at which point you don’t need the favourite list, so the amount of time saved is always 0 or negative. When you’re ready to check out it takes ages to simply give me the total, and then woe be unto me if I want to switch to a different payment method. Even switching from eat-in to takeaway has a loading time. Want to use app balance? Let’s check how much you have: loading… oh sorry you’re out of money. Click on reload: loading… click to choose payment method: loading…. choose amount: loading. Checkout: loading…. You get the picture. Sometimes I’d rather just wait in queue. Look if you want to make an app that needs to make a round trip to the server even to scratch its nose, the server has to be fast. There are reviews from two years ago complaining of this.

I love Starbucks and go more then I should probably admit haha, I do use the app every time I go as well and I don’t see any problems with the app so far but there could be a lot of improvements to give the customers a reason to use it.
So far as a customer we need to spend £50 for a single free drink which for most people is really unrealistic, this is why I feel we need to have more reward for buying a Starbucks then just the simple £1 - 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I think we could do with a system where if you buy a coffee with a snack or hot food you gain bonus stars for a meal or weekly bonus points e.g. get a ice coffee this week and earn a bonus 20 stars and so on as this will encourage people to want to use the app more often and give a purpose to use it.

Yeah I know it’s a strange title but this is a true story, let me tell you from the beginning. I’m 14 year’s old and I have diabetes type 1 Last night we went out with my parents to have a walk, as we started walking my blood sugar went very down and I couldn’t even walk walk because when the blood sugar comes down you can’t even stand on you feet. Anyway I didn’t have any medications with my self to fix the blood sugar. But suddenly I remembered that I had picked some sugar from Starbucks, so I putted my hand in my pocket and I found the sugar that I picked up from Starbucks and I just ate the sugar and it was very helpful for me. And now this is the story “Starbucks has just save my life” or maybe we can say “Starbucks has saved a HUMAN’S life”❤️❤️ Thank you Starbucks And also thank you for reading my story❤️ THIS IS A TRUE STORY 😌

Gold level disappointment

The app is great for collecting stars on the journey to get a free drink.
The app is also good for enabling your name to appear on your cup automatically when ordering in store.
Unfortunately I have had two issues. The first issue is the lack of customer support. I made an enquiry about a free birthday drink and received no reply at all.
The second issue is the gold level, I was working my way towards gold level (like 95% there) when suddenly the progress got set back to zero.
I understand that the gold level achievement is a yearly running total, however, there is no where inside the app that tells me at what date the achievement will reset.

I used the app well and happily until I preordered a drink, to be picked after work, arrived at the store and it had shut early due to staff shortages. By sheer chance someone saw me and was incredibly kind and made my order. There was no way they could update the app to alert other customers to this.
I recently bought drinks and food to be picked up, I arrived and there was an item they couldn’t fulfil. They couldn’t give me a refund from the till and had no way of helping me navigate the app for a refund. 3 weeks later I haven’t even had a response to my request for help from Starbucks customer support so I have downloaded the Caffè Nero app.

I topped up my account over the weekend and went into Starbucks this morning to buy a coffee. App would not load. When it eventually did it told me there was no card attached to my account despite the main page showing I had money on it so couldn’t use it! Luckily I had my bank card with me.
Tried accessing my account on the web and it’s booted me out saying I’ve tried logging in too many times which I haven’t.
Deleted and re loaded the app and now it won’t load at all. Green screen with a circle spinning in the middle.
Where is my money and when can I access it?? Would ask for my money back but cannot access my account either on the web or by the app and as I don’t have a physical card don’t even know what my card number is.

This morning I checked my app and it showed I had one reward to use! Then I had to update the app! I’ve updated and now my reward has gone!!! The past 2 years the Starbucks app has been a complete shambles!! When I went to one of my local stores last week, I couldn’t use the app at all, it just wasn’t working, speaking to the staff, it hadn’t been working all week and they had been waiting for someone to come out and fix it!! I’m sorry Starbucks, this just isn’t good enough, you need to sort it out and fast, otherwise I’ll go elsewhere!!
Something else you might want to think about is giving a half ice option on your frappacino’s, I have sensitive teeth and the ice you put in is just too much, but the only other option is no ice!! A half ice option would be so much better!!

The latest version 7.8.0 has a new front door but is still horribly broken. The recent orders screen still doesn’t work and the app overall is slow. What is the problem with your developers? Have they done ANY usability testing?? The rest of this review was written weeks ago.
I’ve sat down in a Starbucks to write this. Since the app split from the main US global app a few years ago, it has constantly underperformed. Latest issues for the last 3 months have been the inability to access past orders and favourites (what’s the point of quick repeat utility if major sections of the app don’t work). A notice to “bear with us” has been there for 3 months now. Seriously Starbucks need to sack their developers. Today’s bug was that my saved card was deleted without warning from the app and auto-top up settings won’t save. What a total embarrassment from such a large company.

Don’t bother. Just order.

This was a life saver for me during the pandemic, not having to wait in a line or shout at someone through masked only for them to hear me wrong, or spend 20 minutes trying to scan my rewards card…. But this app is vile. Constantly logging me out, doesn’t ever load, OR crashed when ordering but still takes my money…. I really don’t think Starbucks needs the money that bad, to go out and rob their customers blind.
This app is terrible, so much money in this company and they can’t create an efficient app… when other companies do it without issue? Ridiculous. Clearly they don’t give a crap. 5000 one star reviews and not a single update… why would they bother? They still get your money.

I’ve never written an app review before, but the Starbucks app has driven me to sheer desperation and the need to lie down in the dark room. It’s possibly the most useless app on the App Store and if zero stars was an option I would choose it. I spent weeks trying to add a payment card, exchanging messages with “support” who didn’t have any other suggestions other than delete and reinstall the app. After moving on with my life for a few months I felt brave enough to try again. This time I managed to add my debit card so I thought my luck was changing and I would be able to order and collect my stats. How wrong I was. Now I can get all the way through the ordering process up to the final step of “place order” and no, the app doesn’t process any further. I have deleted and will be buying my coffee elsewhere. I can’t understand how other huge international companies can have successful online/app ordering yet Starbucks can’t.

After having issues with the last update and contacting Customer Services my app mysteriously updated to a new version (not sure you could do this without it appearing in you update history) and now works after a fashion. Still have issues - never sure I have manually added money to the app as it continually asks for password. Auto reload gets round this, again wasn’t sure if it would work as it kept asking for my password. Whilst I can buy my coffee with the app, I still have little confidence in it.
Still on my wish list of functions would be either would be an option to add card to my Wallet or an app for the Apple Watch.

The app is awful nowadays, i am unable to top up my card on my phone, when i select add money, i enter details etc, then it asks me for my password to 'confirm' the top up, n thats as far as i get before i have to shut the app down and reopen it. Once i select confirm, it stays on that screen asking for password, when i try to click the cross in the too left to close that oart, it doesnt close, so i have to shut down and reopen, to then find out that it still hasnt topped up my card.
App is ridiculous at the no, and it has been like this for ages, long before the latest update on 8th april, this has been an ongoing issue for about 3 months now, same thing all the time, cannot get off the confirm screen, not topping up, and having to shut it down. I have tried logging out/in, i have removed the app and reinstalled, checked my software for updates, checked the app store for uodates etc, nothing. I have even emailed starbucks twice regarding these errors and have never had a reply from anyone.

I like the design of the app in general but it barely works. Sometimes it will take ages to load, sometimes it doesn’t work at all. I loaded £10 on it yesterday, then I couldn’t order at all, so had to pay in store anyway. Once, it wouldn’t let me put money on, saying there was an error, then I got 10 notifications from my bank saying I’d added £50 to my Starbucks account.
It’s terrible if you are in a rush. If I’m ordering on the way to work, twice I’ve had to just leave it as it didn’t work and I didn’t have time to go in store.
The only reason I ‘use’ (when it works) it is it’s the only Starbucks app available.

keeps telling me to upgrade but then tells me I can only upload older version ?!
App wants me to sign in/join up why ? I have had this app for a number of years. When I try to sign in I’m being told my password is wrong (it is not) so I try to change password only to be told error messages! Meanwhile I am without my coffee which I always order from the app and then collect . I have no idea where my card is as I was encouraged by your staff years ago to switch to the app. (Now wished I had NOT) have no idea how I can access the money I have on my card. EXTREMELY UNHAPPY. Do not have time to queue up and pay cash when on my lunch. Would NOT recommend anyone to download Starbucks app.

I used to love Starbucks rewards, it linked with Wallet, was easy to top up and check balance and star count.
It is now a disaster. Since the U.K. app became separate it just does not work reliably. The link to Apple wallet is now broken, the balance takes forever to update, and even when it does it isn’t always correct - you only find out when you go to pay and rather embarrassingly are told you don’t have any credit! (But the app is still showing you have balance in your account!). You also cannot find for the life of you how close you are to retaining the gold membership for another year as it is forever resetting and never showing an accurate picture of star count. This app is terrible, sort it out!

The app does the basics but not all the time

This mobile ordering app has saved me a lot of time since I started using it and the new reward system is fair. However, at times this app fails to do the basics. On multiple occasions in the past I’ve been unable to load money onto my Starbucks card, I am diverted to a blank white page as though I’m being diverted to my bank to auth the payment but it leads nowhere. I’ve never had this issue anywhere else. Recently, the “previous” tab on the order area of the app has stopped working, whenever I navigate to this page to replicate the drinks I’ve ordered previously (because this saves time and makes the experience easier) the app force closes itself every single time. At times it’s a really frustrating app to do and many a time I’ve just not ordered because I couldn’t be bothered with the app. When it works it’s great!

Clearly someone in marketing in U.K. wanted to own an app but didn’t understand golden rule of UI/UX which is don’t make changes that make the user experience worse. I’ve now logged in (which makes me better off than most) but you place a remote order and app crashes. Sometimes it places the order sometimes not. You log back in to check on previous orders and it crashes again and again. It’s so bad I thought I was out of date on the app but no. When we can travel I suspect the app won’t work overseas either. Useless.

I don’t know if this is an issue only I am having, but after seeing the other bad reviews, I thought I’d give my feedback.
A new store opened up near me so thought I’d try to order through the app. I noticed that I needed to login to order, so I tried and got an error saying ‘something went wrong’. No problem, maybe the password was incorrect. So I try to reset my password, same error again. Tried to make a new account, said that my email is in use, made a new account with a different email and got the same error again. Whatever I did to login, I got the exact same error. I’m dissapointed that I can’t order through the app and won’t be able to collect rewards due to the app not working properly. The app is pretty much useless if you can’t login, as every function aside from checking the menu and finding your closest store requires you to have a registered account.

Seriously how a company as big as Starbucks is satisfied having a janky, error riddled mess like this is beyond me. I have had 2 occasions to use it. First time it couldn’t muster the ability to put money on a Starbucks card. Which is required to pay. I managed to top up via the website because I had a hunch they hadn’t bothered to port error messages to something user friendly. Yep once done I managed to order, only took like 20 mins to get there. Second time I was able to top up the card correctly only for them to not be able to order anything from the store. With the massively helpful error message “something went wrong, try again later”. 2/2 times, months apart, garbage experience. Hasn’t been updated in 4 months so I can only assume they’ve given up on it but happy to keep taking money from you. Avoid!

I resonate with the recent review this transfer of app and reward system does not work. I’ve also written 3 times to customer service as they can’t answer phones etc during this time. Hello we are all working from home phones do work so why can’t they be used? It’s so much more productive. I’ve been a gold member for several years and since using this card physically post transfer my activity does not update. I’ve signed in and out reset the app but no change. My points are not being added I’ve informed customer service but I don’t seem to get a reply. Also my discounts are not being taken off for as syrups and whipped cream. So I’ve been paying full price since end of last year. I only realised today when I asked the barista to provide a breakdown. They said the card is the issue. What do I need to change now? Nothing is clear the previous system worked much better than this. It is a nightmare as there is no resolution. Very disappointed in the service ie lack of. Sent from my iPhone

Improved loyalty scheme but poorly implemented

Credit where it is due, the new Starbucks loyalty scheme is a vast improvement and much fairer rewarding overall spending and custom rather than just drink purchases. It always annoyed me previously that even though I may spend £15 in Starbucks for a coffee and a load of cakes for my kids I would only get 1 loyalty star, the same as if I had spent £3 on just a coffee. This has now been rectified.
However the app update is a disappointment, I have had no end of problems redeeming reward drink - they accrue and are visible in the app but then staff can’t actually process them so I end up paying and having to go via customer services who are now only contacted via email due to covid and take 2 weeks to respond.
A bigger issue remains the fact that in order to benefit from Starbucks loyalty scheme you have to use the app as a digital wallet and preload it with money which I am not sure is on in the 21sf century.

Why Starbucks had to mess with a perfectly good app I will never know. I had to update the app, but it wouldn’t let me update & kept telling me to download the app. I did this, then was told my balance and rewards would be transferred within 14 days and to add funds. This I did however 2 weeks later I cannot find the money from either version Starbucks‘ customer service department is incommunicado - I’m relying on tweets and they get back when they can be bothered.

I use the app not because of their rewards scheme (because I can easily just use my physical Starbucks card) but because of the order ahead feature. But recently I have found that the app is extremely slow and it takes forever for the menu to load up. In the time it takes to load up the menu, I could probably just drive to Starbucks and order at the window. Then there’s the issue that sometimes, after you’ve ordered, the app just randomly shuts down and you can never be sure if the order has actually gone through.
I’ve found that the “previous” section of the app no longer works and before they used to have a “favourites” section which now no longer exists, making the whole ordering process even longer. It’s an absolute shambles and major work needs to be done on the app.

There was no need for this new app other than a new greedy points system. Giving their customers a free drink after they’ve spent at least £40 previously was a bit too generous for Starbucks.
I could’ve looked over this if it wasn’t for the disaster this new app is. Keeps logging you out whenever it feels like and making you change your password because it can’t recognize it. When adding new money to your card it can take ages to be available (ended up having to pay with my debit card at the till the other day because the money wasn’t showing in the app). And not as important, but all my old card designs are gone...
You had a decent app Starbucks, you could’ve just changed the points system without making this mess.

Ordering on an app on your phone should be easy but this made it SO hard... it doesn’t confirm when you add money to your balance so I have just unknowingly put £5 on 3 times because it doesn’t confirm each time and stays on the exact same screen so I thought it wasn’t working. It’s already a stupid, greedy plan to make you hve to top up £5 or £10 your card rather than just pay for the drink you want. I’m sure it’s so that people will go back but my thoughts are the opposite already..
Oh and almost forgot to mention that the app keeps on failing to do steps and error messages frequently come up. It happened on 2 seperate occasions on 2 different phones too so it’s not just my signal.
Once this money on now is used I will not be using this again and will go to Costa for a much simpler service as getting coffee should be.

This is possibly the worst app I have ever downloaded to my phone. I open the app to pay in a busy store to find I have been logged out. Or I am slightly short on the balance to pay and it does not auto top up in time and I need to take another card out to pay the balance.
I stopped the top up as it was a total pain and was just using the app to gather points and the teller advised if you have no balance on the card you don’t get the points anymore. What the actual hell! For one of the largest businesses in the world to have an app like this is a disgrace.
If you read this Starbucks, look to Cafe Nero for how to do it right. Simple and just works with no drama. I’m annoyed at the fact that I’m so annoyed at the app I felt the need to write this review.

Starbucks card member since 2001, global app user for many years. After the breathlessly heralded app update, my gold status disappeared, accrued stars from a transaction 3 weeks ago have not appeared and of course the early days password reset drama !
Nothing but useless or sometimes deliberately misleading “help” information on the web site or endless parroting of the same poor quality information on social media.
I had a day in London this week, avoided Starbucks and used Pret instead.
When this debacle gets fixed, let’s hope Starbucks UK make some sort of reparation to their customers (and of course their many franchisees) who have been dealt this poor hand, however £50 spend for a reward is poor value and this is driving card and app users straight to their competitors.
I guess it’ll end up as a “how not to treat loyal customers” case study in the future !
Your website help information just glosses over the app issues and paints a rosy picture - it needs to at least issue a realistic update.
Costa and Caffè Nero apps work perfectly and update instantly - it’s not rocket science to develop and test an app, but the one you have developed and the back-end system along with it is obviously broken.

If you seem to have lost money, check ‘Cards’ on your app. I lost my balance for the second time, only £1.80 so was going to top up anyway. Loaded £20. Came to buy a drink and it had all disappeared. The app had created another card and put all of the money on that leaving me with a zero balance on my main card. I’ve now merged the two. What a joke.
Several weeks later and it’s no better.
Still have to reopen the app from the App Store every time I want to use it.
Still lost all of my stars, my gold tier rewards and a reward that I had before this debacle.
I finally got my money back only to find that it’s gone again. Only £1.80 this time so needed to top up anyway. Topped up £20, it’s gone also.
The tills frequently don’t put through the gold tier rewards and often can’t put the cup discount on. That’s 75p a time for me, lost, because of Starbucks totally incompetent, unusable IT.
I was in Hull last week and I couldn’t use my app at all so had to pay on my card but the tills couldn’t give receipts.
It’s a total shambles.
In addition to this, there is no communication, no customer service and no free drinks to make up for the extra money that they’re taking from us because their system is a pile of ....
Other IT firms would be paying massive penalties for a system to be unusable for this amount of time. It’s time to reward your long suffering, loyal customers, this is way beyond a joke now.

The update and change of reward system has been an absolute shambles, everyone is logged out of the app and that’s where the problems begin! Most if not all couldn’t log back in, eventually Starbucks offer a solution being to reset your password and it will let you back in, which for many allowed them in to see balances gone and all rewards with it! However if you are like me and many others, you don’t get a password reset email, Starbucks customer support faqs tell you to try different browsers, this doesn’t work! Then it asks you to email them only to be ignored. So you resort to social media to be given the same faqs tweeted back at you or if you keep asking when that doesn’t work blocked! They even had the hilarious suggestion that I get another physical reward card, message them the number and they will manually add it to my account, an account I can’t log into in app or in a browser, and therefore can’t use rewards even if I earned them. So the short version if you are lucky the app will randomly work, if not their solution is to not use the app at all and use a physical swipe card......customer service at its finest!

This app is an absolute shambles. I was kicked out of my old app and had to reset my password. But on trying to reset my password, I kept getting an error message until I searched in the customer help to see that I should use a chrome browser to reset my password not safari! (The browser automatically opened from my phone - doh!) having actually got into the app I saw that stars have somehow changed to point but with no explanation as to why. I then queued up in a store to order to coffees. When I got to the front of the queue I had to top up my balance. Clicked on Apple Pay option to get a pop up message saying the app doesn’t support that! Even though I had been using it previously!!! And no way to enter my card details either - Except by logging into the website. I had no cards with me so ended up leaving the coffee shop empty handed and embarrassed. This fails simply because it does not work and there was no communication to customers to inform them of the changes or make it clear what they had to do. Do not install this app!

Buggy update , initially unable to login and unable to add payment card

This update came to change the way that rewards were given. The old app that was fully functional was replaced by an app that initially refused to accept my login details. I found a fix for this .... reset your password. It seems Starbucks also updated the password policy without telling customers, so now requiring an extra character other than uppercase, lowercase and number. So new password and I could login!
Why didn’t Starbucks email customers to advise password rules had been updated and you would need to change it?
Finally in the app, looked at my cards that previously had lovely pictures of the original cards, but all now just the Starbucks logo. Why has this functionality of the same picture as on physical card been removed?
Finally I needed to top up one of my cards as I found previously working auto top up had stopped working after this latest update. I have attempted to add payment cards from various credit card and all refuse to set up, so unable to add money without asking my barista to do this.
The app used to be easy to use, giving me auto top ups as well as friendly in the way I could easily identify my different cards. All this has disappeared and feels like Starbucks do not want to continue having our custom.
Please fix it and make my coffee purchases easy again.

The app is a shambles and very often the stores either don’t get the order or the printer doesn’t work so you end up queuing twice- once to find they don’t have your order and then to make the order and wait again. My son has gold status but hasn’t been able to get the payment to work for weeks so we lost weeks worth of credits for coffees.
We’ve been buying 2 coffees every morning for over a year at the same time but only a few members of staff actually remember us. Some don’t take your name so other people walk off with your coffee. I had one instance during Covid where someone walked out with my coffee, then came back into the store having tasted it and realised it wasn’t his, and then the girl handed it to me! She clearly wasn’t pleased when I refused to take it. Customer service is either brilliant or shockingly bad depending on who is on. How hard can it be?? I would go somewhere else as loyalty isn’t rewarded but my son likes the Starbucks coffee.

Give us 2 wks to sort the new app (that no one wanted) with a new reward system, which happens to be much much worse for people and you have to spend £50 for a free drink....
Bad enough, but then everyone’s money disappears, bank details disappear, gold status disappears.
Customers are left paying full price with no perks, at a time when cash is not allowed, we can’t go into half the stores and people can’t access Apple Pay and had no notice their bank details would be wiped.
Then.....stars aren’t being given, transactions aren’t being recorded on the app. The two weeks to transfer passes, and no change....no communication from the company, they closed their phone lines down. New updates keep appearing but no stars, no previous transaction....
In short, no one should be offering less of a loyalty package to their customers at this time....especially a company who doesn’t pay their taxes to the uk. And £50 to get a free drink
Is insulting.
A company this size should not be launching an app that doesn’t work, or not fix it within the timescales given.... and to close your communication channels is atrocious.

I can’t now log on. Stars lost. Credit lost. I need to change my password apparently however the site is down so can’t even do that.
There was nothing wrong with the old app -why change?
Whilst on a roll what really irritates me about Starbucks is the insistence on asking me my name - even when there is hardly anyone in the queue. When I politely decline or point out that it isn’t needed the server often has the temerity to argue with me. “Sorry - I need a name” followed by “I’ll have to put a smiley face on your cup then”. I am the bloody customer. I only want a coffee. I don’t want a relationship with some spotty Herbert behind the counter who usually can’t even spell a name even when provided with one. I don’t want to argue with the server about the issue. I simply don’t want to be asked my name. If that wasn’t bad enough Starbucks marketing have gone completely overboard with the “what’s your name” advert as if it is something people want. (Appreciate it is in support of trans rights but given that I don’t know many transgender people it certainly doesn’t make me want to dash into my local a Starbucks for a PSL).
Come back Costa - all is forgiven!

Works but buggy which screws you over

I downloaded this app to order during Covid. This app is really good but when it comes to reloading your credit to buy whatever you want... it usually crashes and takes multiple payments,,, I added £25 to my account and the app crashed and said a error has occurred please try again, so I did it again and it had takes 2 payments... taking £50 from me. The customer service is slow. I’ve sent multiple emails and although they’ve taken the money back off my account I still haven’t received my refund for there mistake nearly 2 and a half weeks after they said it will take upto 7 days for the money to be back in my account. And now the customer service never replies to emails I send and the app won’t let me log in... STILL WAITING FOR MY MONEY! total crap. So don’t bother..

Always a fan of the online coffee apps and Starbucks has been ok. Up until the latest update that is. A new star version and bug fixes seem to have resulted in an app that no longer works. If you eventually get past setting new passwords you have to wait for account balance to go on. For me this happened within an hour or two, but stars could be a bit longer according to Starbucks.
Following the update I now seem to be unable to add money to the card. For a big company with such an important roll out it appears to have caused more trouble than it was supposed to fix. In summary if you have a little patience and like the coffee it will be fine (I’m sure). If you just want decent rewards and an app that works then possibly another company might be for you.
Such a shame as I was a very loyal customer up to this fiasco. And following the Starbucks uk app launch could well have been avoided.

Used the old Starbucks app for years & very happy with it. Downloaded the new app & on trying to sign in it defaults to an error message saying something is wrong try again - on checking with staff this actually means you have to re-create your password so why can’t starbucks write that? On getting thru that process none of the balances on my cards were transferred over so no credit on the account meaning had to add cards all over again if wanted to use app - useless! And don’t get me started on the new rewards - big marketing about having increased the points awarded, not so much about increasing the points required to get a free drink x 10 - I know some will miss the small print but the whole thing is a disincentive to use Starbucks (based on say a £2.50 coffee, it was previously a free drink every every 15 times - not very generous at all, now it’s even worse at every 20!) It’s a see through con & a poorly executed one. Yours...a very disappointed customer.

I’ve used the previous app for quite a few years, using the auto too-up. I’ve been a Gold Member for all those years. Having had to update to this version, the wrong card number is showing with zero money and zero points! I’ve tried to add my old card but it asks for a security number, the only other number on the card is a six-digit number which, of course, doesn’t work! There’s no useful help on the app. At this rate I’ll be deleting it and just using the card in Wallet on my phone. Really annoyed!!!! 😡

If ever was there an example of how not to launch an update to your app this is it.
Clearly starbucks haven’t bothered to carry out any testing before dumping this release out to us.
Firstly you can’t log in with your old details but they’ve not told you that and the “something has gone wrong” message when you do try to log in isn’t particularly helpful, although it does nicely sum up this entire update. You’ll need to reset your password and that may let you access your account again.
Secondly they’ve changed the stars earning structure, this may be better or may be worse, time will tell.
Thirdly and most annoyingly, the cards that you held in the app all now have a grr we metic Starbucks image instead of an image of the actual physical card. I had multiple cards for both practical and seasonal reasons - I have both UK issued and US cards (Disney World won’t accept UK issued cards but you could add and use a US issued card in the app for example). I now have no idea which card that is. Also I liked to switch to have a Christmas themed card over the festive period- can’t do that now that they are all the same dull standard logo. Why would you remove this feature?
All in all this is a huge downgrade over the previous version.

This thing is SO slow... It takes forever to register a key stroke. Someone took great care to craft that spinning circle in the green button while it waits but someone SHOULD have spent care making it so you didn’t NEED such a thing.
Can’t see my rewards. My card vanished for a while. Can’t see any way to re-add the card to Apple Wallet. Apple Pay non existent. RE setting up auto reload (which USED to be on and somehow has vanished during the “upgrade”) impossible as I just get “Something went wrong” errors all the time.
This is a testament to what you get when you let the marketing team decide if an app is ready or not. This is an atrocious piece of software and like many, if it isn’t either rolled back to the old version or fixed in the next week or so, I’ll just stop using Starbucks as all the convenience is gone and there’s a ton of frustration to replace it.

So this morning app was updated tried to login & reset password as per email 3 hrs later no email to reset. Is Starbucks just stealing peoples money now and won’t give you it back. Lost stars too waste of time. Customer services is crap don’t respond. Tried everything uninstalling reinstalling still won’t let you log in with your password won’t reset password as won’t send you the link. Basically now completely useless app. I want my money refunded after this fiasco as you app plain does not work and your not keeping the money I had in my app. Not that long ago I was being charged the time instead of amount I had spent, contacted customer services and never got a response still waiting on my refund for that to. It’s just theft now.

Not much has changed - and it’s all for the worse.

Simply put, the app itself is mostly functional enough, although the menu system is not entirely intuitive to navigate. It is now easy to see my star count, and status level. However the server side / Epos interaction is not applying the gold member benefits to the orders.. meaning I either take a stock drink, or pay for syrups, shots and so on which is the only actual perk of the gold status (that these are free). Add to that the fact that Apple pay has been removed as a valid payment option ( I used it every week for over 2 years on the old version of the app) and that the syrup count not allowing zero is still broken.. and we see that creating a siloed version of the app for each territory is not so easy. Ordering ahead, so that my order was ready on my way to work used to be a pleasure. It is currently dissuading me from using Starbucks at all as it is quicker, easier and better value (due to the gold status glitch) to buy from a local artisan coffee shop instead..

Poor. Really, really poor.

Where do I start? No Apple Pay option so you have to sign up for an account and enter credit card details. And then you can’t simply pay the amount due for your purchase - you have to “top up” a digital Starbucks card by £10 or £15 etc, meaning you are almost inevitably topping up to a value greater than your purchase (albeit the excess is stored for future purchases). And then the user interface stinks. Biggest issue is that the app won’t tell you what is out of stock BEFORE you order. You have to go through the whole ordering process, only to be informed at the end if your chosen outlet has the items you want - and then revise accordingly. Clunky is a polite way to put it. I struggle to believe that a major company like Starbucks can get an app so wrong, when so many other companies do similar apps so much better.

Did they forget to UX test this?

When the app doesn’t crash, which is frequently, the ordering makes no sense. If I want to order for several people (as I am doing whilst we are in lockdown - few stores are open and I’m trying to deliver to outside peoples houses) it keeps asking me if I want to change my custom drink rather than accept I want different types of drink in one order.
It doesn’t let me top up properly either but that frustration seems to be in many reviews.
It’s not the worst ordering app I’ve ever seen but it gets one star because it’s so obviously a step backwards. If there are benefits to this new app then they must be in the background and for Starbucks themselves because I’m not sure how the customer benefits here. I would love to see the justification for releasing it and understand what Starbucks thought they were trying to achieve here.

Once again for reasons known to themselves they release a new app and strip features and prevent you using it in other countries, lets go backwards!
Maybe they got rid of the Oracle box! 🤣
Every time they release an update they break it so you cannot open the settings as it crashes necessitating a remove and re-install. Come on, this is back bedroom app design and poor/no pre-release testing.
You closed my local coffee shop as you were too tight fisted to pay the rent when your cheap deal ran out so you cut and run. A Starbucks franchise in the local hospital doesn’t even support the app/rewards. No thought for a seamless customer experience.
You announce free filter coffee for all NHS workers and the the next day shut up shop, great work! You must have worked out the cost, baulked and ran for cover.
I found Starbucks HK able to run rings around you with better drinks, more choice and Reserve easier to find.
The Costa app is just far better and they don’t require us to fill their bank for you prior to using the app, they even give you 100 points = £1 just for signing up. I have £18 of free drinks to get after a short period to buy what I want.
Give it a rest and stay shut, I doubt you will be missed especially when Costa have absorbed your customers. 🤔

Honestly don’t understand why Starbucks have decided to do individual apps for each country? Not only is this inconvenient for frequent travellers but it highlights the lack of venues that actually accept the Starbucks rewards as well as order ahead feature. I preload my Starbucks card monthly and hoped to use it at NEC only to be told they didn’t accept it maybe, not the only venue either, they should look into that rather than wasting time developing worthless country specific apps. Not to mention this new app replacing the original international app without any Watch feature is ridiculous so will not be using until forced by which point (13th April) it best have all the aforementioned options available otherwise Starbucks will seriously struggle to recover from this Coronavirus pandemic more so.
