Description
Introducing Mobile Web Services (MWS), a new suite of Personal Identity tokens and services, developed, administered and managed by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
This MobileID Application is issued by the NIMC on behalf of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and serves as a valid means of Identification anywhere a Nigerian (or legal resident) is required to present an ID Token.
It MUST however, always be verified for the transaction to be complete.
The NIMC is also improving the design of the National Identification Number (NIN) Slip, which may also be verified using this App.
The NIMC will collaborate with sister agencies such as the FIRS, FRSC, JAMB, NAFDAC, NHIS and any other Federal or State Government that wishes to provide eServices to citizens via a secure platform.
Using this platform, the MWS Mobile Ecosystem means that the Government can instantly reach out to tens of millions of citizens anywhere in the world.
If you have been issued a National Identification Number (NIN) by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), you are welcome to download this application to use as a complement to, or in place of the physical National Identity Card.
This app may serve as a replacement for a physical Polycarbonate Card, since it also a State-of-the-Art General-Multipurpose resource.
We are here to serve you and welcome your feedback.
Please DO NOT attempt to use a fake Mobile Number or Bank Verification Number (BVN) to register. A NIN is issued by the Federal Government, BVN is not!

Why bother?
May 2025 Update: It’s been nine months since this app was updated. Any serious organisation will prioritise their app updates in line with Apple’s iOS releases (as well as other platforms), but we are not dealing with a serious organisation. Not only have they made a nonfunctional app, but their failure to update it poses serious security concerns for users. It's not hard to recognise a joke when you see one.
Why bother to make a nonfunctional app?
The connection problems haven’t been resolved for over two years. The new update, which includes receiving OTP via WhatsApp, is also nonfunctional!

NIMC team could do better
This app has nothing useful to its purpose. Not a single NIN print have been successful, generation of remita and confirmation have not been working, premium and standard access for NIN printing keeps loading until thy kingdom come. I think of you need to create an app for easy access for what you call a legal tender, the service needs to be available all year round. Till date I’ve been having a negative experience with this app kindly fix it and make it useful for all Nigerians at home and in diaspora.

Changing international dialling code - still same phone number
I have just registered and got my NIN, but you guys put +234 instead of +44 in front of my number, I have tried to change it but to no avail, and on your website you are charging £21 or is it $21 + a police report, but I am not changing my mobile number. Its just the international dialling code that needs to be changed. Can you guys looking into sorting this on your app so it is easy and straight forward.

Half baked app!
I have been trying to log in but still unable to get the verification code that was meant to be sent to my phone!
How is it that an app that is meant to cater to an individuals ability to identify him/herself has only a single means of verifying your ID (which is the number added at the initial point of registration)?
If you’ve got so far as developing an app for this service, surely it is not rocket science to add alternate means of logging in i.e. email address or other biometric form of verification which are even more secure than a mobile phone number - considering the sometimes poor network service from service providers!!!
Why is it that the option to choose how you want to get logged into the app is not there??
Part of the reason for digitising things of this nature is to streamline services, make payments on-the-go via the app when needed, and make it easier for people to get things done…not harder by going to stand in lengthy queues for hours on end!!!
The app developers need to get their acts together and sort this out.

For over a month or so people are unable to login it to their account, why because of system error, if you try to login this is what it’ll show after put your NIN “something went wrong in our sever Do Not panic, our engineers are currently working on it” it was tough for those abroad and now even if you’re in Nigeria you won’t be able to access it what a shame… plz you guys should look into this ASAP

Useless for Nigerians in diaspora
Thanks for this initiative. However I have found it useless because there’s no provision for those living abroad. It treats our telephone number as local to Nigeria and attempts to send OTP to a nigeriaised number.
Please fix this error or provide alternative means to authenticate those living outside of Nigeria.

OTP ISSUES
If you want all Nigerians in diaspora to register for the NIN, why can you allow OTP to there registered number? This is a simple field to add to make the app fit for purpose. Why does it take Nigeria a very long time to get simple task right? ****UPDATE**** After 1yr I am able to login using my Nigeria number to receive the OTP which is odd given it is not the registered number used for my NIN registration. For all trying to connect, if you live outside Nigeria and have a Nigeria mobile number I will recommend you use it to obtain your OTP.

Worst app on earth just to do a simple task it can’t I have been trying to view my vnin till date no single update it’s always error upon error engineers are on it for over 9months it’s such a shame

The app does not go beyond OTP and the Watsapp version, also does not work. My overall impression is it defeats the main objective and the engineers working on the app maybe be having power outage or network issue. The app needs to work as people needs their passports renewed and banking sectors etc.

Unfortunately I am unable to use this app because the registration process requires an OTP which unfortunately doesn’t work for numbers registered outside Nigeria. I have a UK Number registered against my NIN. So can’t continue.

It is a concern not being able to access the app. I recently enrolled for my NIN and the process was straight forward however, I am unable to get my OTP code sent to my phone even after registration .

A Whole Federal Government of Nigeria cannot sort out problems with SMS Provider!
It's been over one year and this promising app has matured to a disappointing failure due to the inability or unwillingness of the federal government of Nigeria to make it work.
At the least, the government has not been able to sort out it's vaunted problems with its SMS provide for around two years going by other comments in the reviews.
Such a shame!

The app keeps popping up with an error message, every time I try to send the OTP code to my UK phone number. Looks like it’s been this way for a while judging from the reviews. Useless app in its current state.

Unable to view linked numbers
Since the upgrade I have been unable to view all phone numbers linked to my NIN. This is where we were supposed to check all numbers linked to our NIN and identify the ones that does not belong to us and report this. Well, I’ve got news for you, it does not work! Diaspora integration
Nimc licensed agents abroad to register Nigerians in diaspora however they have not integrated this to the app, it defaults to a Nigerian dialling code with no option to change it to relevant country. The mobile number recorded is correct but it adds +234 automatically therefore impossible to obtain OTP and impossible to access the app. Please change this.

App is unable to send OTP via sms
The app doesnt go beyond asking to send OTPsms to verify my login. The error i get is ‘DUE TO ISSUES WITH OUR SMS PROVIDER, WE ARE UNABLE TO SEND OTP AT THIS TIME. PLEASE TRY AGAIN. This has been the same for over 3months. I even recently updated the app and still same error. I will truly appreciate a feedback on this. Thank you.

Not surprised to be honest due to the Nigerian factor but app doesn’t appear to be functional and gives an error code when you input your NIN. So what exactly is the purpose of this white elephant app I wonder. No doubt good money has been paid for the development of this dummy app. Brilliant idea if they could get it up and running though.

Just like most people living abroad, I enrolled for the NIN in London a d tried using the app and it keeps says ‘oops’ and keeps returning error messages. This begs the question, why can’t we as a country do the simplest things in life that can work well?

Highly Frustrating
The app takes my NIN and returns an unrecognised Nigerian telephone number, then asks if this is still the number assigned to the NIN. There are 2 options:
1. I am still using this mobile number &
2. I no longer use this mobile number
The app refuses to allow me to select option 2 radio button. I cannot continue the process any further thereafter.
