Description

NotePlan - Calendar Driven Note Taking
A note-taking app for pros where tasks are first-class citizens and daily notes are tightly integrated with your calendar and reminders.
Start your 1-month free trial now for Mac, iPhone, and iPad.
MAKE EVERY MEETING COUNT
Document your meetings efficiently. Then share the decisions and action points with your team to keep everyone in sync.
TRACK WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO YOU
Using Markdown and notes saved in plain-text popular organization frameworks such as Bullet Journal and Zettelkasten are naturally supported.
ALL IN ONE DIGITAL PLANNER
Integrate iCloud (iCal, Google, Exchange) calendars and Reminders and keep an eye on your time side-by-side with tasks and notes.
HERE IS HOW IT WORKS
NotePlan is organized around notes – one note per day, plus any number of undated notes that you can set up in parallel.
Jot down notes and additional to-dos as they occur to you. At the end of the day or first thing tomorrow review the note and prioritize for the next day.
With NotePlan your day doesn't start with a list of unimportant notes and tasks that were automatically carried over from yesterday. Instead, you start your day with a blank canvas, which is like a built-in purging system. You have a daily notepad for quick ideas, pieces of information, meeting notes, or tasks that need to be jotted down.
Your notes are based on Markdown and saved in plain-text files. This means your data is easily accessible at all times. And your devices are kept up-to-date using CloudKit.
NotePlan also syncs with your iCloud Calendar and Reminders, so you have all the important information in one place, right when you need it.
OUR CUSTOMERS
- “As a startup founder, I must be as productive as possible. I've tried many productivity programs, only to be disappointed in their performance. NotePlan is the first app that continues to feel fast and responsive, supporting my full calendar, to-do lists, project plans, and meeting notes! Highly recommended!” - Clint Laskowski (Founder & CEO - Summary Medical, Inc.)
- “NotePlan is a critical component of my productivity workflow. I've converted fully to Markdown for all of my notes and NotePlan handles this so well, bringing together my daily agenda items and any associated notes I take. I really love the Calendar and Reminders integration, but the flawless sync to iOS really takes the cake.” - Brad Rokosz (Enterprise Strategist)
- “NotePlan delivers in a pragmatic and beautiful way the dream of notes and actions in one app. I always have context when doing my tasks. It is simple yet powerful and I positively love that it is built around Markdown, which allows for great interoperability with other apps. It runs beautifully in both my Macbook and my iOS devices.” - Ricardo Liberato (Agile and Devops Entrepreneur)
THE MEDIA
- "NotePlan allows professionals around the world to keep track of their jam-packed schedules and focus on their tasks rather than on managing them." - Christine Preusler, Hosting Advice
- "It's ideal for planning out your day, Bullet Journal style. [...] the combination of scheduling, tagging, and (plain text, portable) notes in one place makes it a true productivity tool." - Brett Terpstra, MacStories
- "Enter NotePlan, my favorite digital Bullet Journal application. NotePlan combines your tasks and your calendar [...]. It does all this in a system that any Bullet Journaller will recognize." - Curtis Mchale, The Sweet Setup

What's New in Version 3.0.17

Thanks for your support! I appreciate the time you take for your feedback.
## New in this update:
- Backlinks! Every note displays at the top of the screen all the other notes linking to it (= bi-directional links). You can collapse and expand the full list or single entries. With this update, you can apply Zettelkasten now also on mobile. Read more about Zettelkasten on my blog: https://blog.noteplan.co
- Events in the daily notes have been redesigned to fit better into the backlinking panel.
- The markdown characters for headings, bold and italic are by default hidden and will be revealed when you tap on the word. This fixes also the problems around editing headings.

Top Tasks and Notes app

Like the holy grail for me. Keeping daily tasks and project notes in the same place in such a useful and well designed way. I’ve tried lots of similar apps and don’t mind paying for this one.

Best all-in-one planning app I’ve found

I’m a planning app junkie and I’ve tried everything out there... my phone is stuffed with todo and note apps that I’ve tried and found not quite right, and my bookshelf is filled with bullet journal notebooks that give me flexibility but lack the search and reminder features that make digital so good.
This is the closest I’ve found to a flexible bullet journal replacement with the benefits of digital storage and access. You can handle tasks, notes and events within the same app, and none of them feel like an afterthought. You have the all-in-one view of the daily pages with separate note storage for pulling projects or longer term thoughts together. Tasks can be scheduled and pop up when you need them, with storage of what you did when to look back on. And everything is stored in plain text so if you want to move to a different system nothing is lost.
The subscription is a little more than I’d like - £25/yr would make it a no-brainer - but it’s not unreasonable compared to other apps in this space, especially as it includes Mac, iPad and iPhone and could potentially replace separate notes, tasks and calendar apps.
The developer is very responsive and open to suggestions about how to enhance the app - I look forward to seeing the next touches on top of a powerful foundation.

Simple but so innovative

Like other reviewers, I'm delighted to say that NotePlan is now my main task and information management tool. From very humble beginnings, it's turned into a very powerful app for managing tasks, projects and information, complete with (currently so trendy) backlinks and an excellent search function. I've tried most/all of the top task management apps, and NotePlan has gradually displaced them all. Similarly, I have a wide range of information management tools, and NotePlan is steadily replacing those as well. The fact that I'm cancelling many of my subscriptions makes up for the fact that NotePlan isn't the cheapest app around. But its non-proprietary data format means I'm completely confident about using it for so much stuff, because it's easy to access NotePlan data without NotePlan (in fact I do so regularly, using various markdown tools, both on macOS and iOS).
Totally recommended – not least because Eduard the developer is so responsive and eats (as they say) his own dogfood!

Can’t get the description to work

The Mac app is great, and I’m sure the iOS one is as well. However, I can’t get my notes to sync, nor can I activate my subscription on my iPhone. Do I have to pay separately for the Mac and iOS versions?

My most used tool

This has been my most-used Mac tool for some years (apart from the keyboard!), and now it's risen to a new level with version 3.
It's a great marriage of personal note-keeper, calendar and task manager, all held together with the power and flexibility of markdown. I use it for project and task management, and increasingly for bullet journalling and even wiki-style note knowledge management (like Zettelkasten).
The developer is very responsive, and I know has plenty of further improvements in the works.
