Price!!

Great game, really enjoying it. It gets the brain working and is a good spin on the traditional sudoku. The only problem I have is that you are charging £9.99 to remove the adverts. That’s a ridiculous amount of money!! If it was £2.99 (or less) then I’d definitely pay for it

I used to love this game, recently thy started putting ads in during game play approximately every 3 minutes, which is very annoying and distracting especially on expert level. Plain ugly

Sudoku is a simple game. This version is fussy and awkward.

Stupid dotted lines, unnecessary colours and the clunky interface had me rushing to delete it.

Maybe all these things can be adjusted in the preferences, but if they’ve managed to turn a simple 9x9 square into a blueprint of the Louvre, I shudder to think how long it might take to master the settings.

I have used this app for years now and couldn’t have hoped for better. It has brilliant and challenging levels with varying levels of difficulty.

Also the ability to track your statistics in terms of mistakes, puzzles completed, time taken etc. is a great addition to the enjoyment of the app.

Super easy to learn if you already know how to play normal sudoku, but also suitable for people who have never played before with the step by step tutorial. I really enjoy challenge of killer sudoku but find adverts very intrusive. Wouldn’t mind at beginning or end but when ou have just identified two numbers and have entered the first one when an advert stops you immediately entering second is most annoying.

Worth the download.

I’m enjoying this one. I play the hard levels and doing ok. I’m using it as an aid for ptsd, I find numbers help bring u back into the present and this is helping. Downside is adverts within gameplay, but they are short enough for me to continue I think. First time playing the killer version and yes it’s fun and so far a thumbs up from me.

Tricky

If you use this game online you might spend more time in adverts than elapsed game time. There is also a tricky little touch sensitivity which ignores the toggle from “notes” to “input”, which generates errors, the purpose of which is to drive you to second chance, ie more adverts.

Of course Ads are inevitable, but those tricky little “insensitivity” or “button area” things are frustrating.

I have this new app. It has ads. Occasionally you can play killer sudoku between the ads. 1 every 5 minutes and at the end of each game. Also, even the hardest levels are very easy. I’ve only been doing killer sudoku for a week, there is no way ‘expert’ should be this simple. If you’d pay to remove the ads I’d find the other killer sudoku game with no ads but pay for puzzle, if you’re doing to pay you should at least have the superior app.

Gone downhill a lot

I have always felt that there was too big a gap between Hard and Expert levels. This remains the case. I do play Expert level quite a bit, but it isn’t fun. Hard level seems a bit too easy. There used to be adverts, but that was OK. Unfortunately, the number of adverts has increased vastly. Play is constantly interrupted, so it is sometimes difficult to see a thought process through. It is easy to lose one’s track during these interruptions. The game has also become very “laggy” - there is sometimes a substantial delay before a number is put in as a “note”. This means that it is easy to make a mistake because I think I have entered a number, but the game hasn’t registered it. I have to slow my play down to suit the game’s needs. What a shame that it has been ruined.

Stability problem needs fixing urgently.

UPDATE. I have recently re installed the app in the hope that the freezing issue would have been resolved by now. I have been playing again for less than a week and unfortunately there is still the same problem where my iPad screen goes black and it will not reopen. My iPad is only 3 years old and has only ever done this when using the app. Deleted once again.

Very disappointed with the recent upgrade. I love this game, play it every day and have paid to be ad free. However, sadly I will be deleting the app if it continues to freeze. Even more worrying is that it also freezes my IPad, the screen just goes black and I have difficulty in getting it to come back on. This has only happened since the upgrade.

Inappropriate and Triggering ads

Yes there are way, way too many ads, as with all free games. I have noticed that lately they are not all for equally harmless games or retailers though.

Some are for chat services with images that are objectifying (I'm trying to use language that won't get this review rejected in the way these ads should have been!)

And I've just seen an ad for a game called 'merge prison' featuring scenes of domestic violence, which is sickening - triggering, misogynist and disgusting. I can make a choice to avoid that game, but not when it's thrust right there while I'm playing an ostensibly innocuous sudoku game. I'm utterly shocked and really upset.

Ghastly little creature!

I love this version of soduco - definitely the best app of this kind….. however the ghastly little creature that interrupts and breaks one’s concentration to tell you you you’re a genius, or just made a brilliant move is driving me crazy 🤯

I’d be happy to pay for the app if I could be assured that I’d never see the ghastly little creature ever again!

Please tell me if it is definitely switched off if paying for the app, and if so, how I go about paying for it - I’ve searched through everything and found out how much it is, but can’t see how to actually pay!

Recent update

I have enjoyed this game for months doing the daily challenges The recent update has changed the font size and feel of the game making it necessary to use bigger movements to input your notes and answers. The daily challenges have also been medium every day . I don’t mind the odd medium ones but I need the challenge of the expert ones which used to predominate. This is Knocking my enjoyment. I don’t mind the adverts as you only get 1-2 each game. Very happy to play this game free , the adverts are much less intrusive than other games I’ve tried. Great game shame about the update

Frustrating as constantly freezes

I used to really enjoy Killer Sudoku but recently the game constantly freezes for few seconds at a time. Can’t enter the numbers. Can’t switch to notes. The clock pauses same time as freeze but this has made the game very frustrating to play.

Great, but NOTES BUG

Great game … but a MAJOR BUG:

If you have an enclosed dotted area that is not in a straight line and straddles more than one 3x3 main box, then if you have notes entered in all squares (eg 1234) and you then enter an actual number (eg 1) then ALL the notes values in the dotted area should clear but it only clears where the number is either in a vertical or horizontal line or in the same major 3x3 square area. In certain configurations of dotted areas you can be left with a solved value (eg 1), some of this value cleared within the dotted area when you enter the solution BUT the note entry for the number (eg 1) remains in (usually one) of the dotted area cells. Never used to do this but has been a bug for about 2 months now.

Meanwhile, other feedback:

Game Fonts are ok but remain small and pale - especially the total for dotted areas - and therefore only just readable on a smaller iPad (I know other users with giant iPads have given feedback to say they are too big, but they are not - this must be a real problem for phone users);

The new ‘Level Completed!’ screen remains badly executed with so much going on - I have not once been able to read the percentage figure for “you are faster than x% of others” written in

pale yellow against pale blue background with a swirling line moving over the top. - it’s almost invisible; and

Latency and freezing issues are now much better, thank you.

Great but latest update disappointing

I love this game but since the recent update the daily challenge has been spoiled for me. I used to be disappointed when given a hard puzzle to do (only the expert ones are worth doing) but since the update, the game has been giving me easy and medium puzzles. Perhaps you could have a setting to allow us to chose which levels we would like to play.

Also you have introduced a bug whereby if a group goes over one block and you fill in notes for it then place a number within the group, it does not remove the note in the other blocks.

Used to be amazing, now just OK

This was, hands-down, the best sudoku app out there until recently. Now, the app insults you with patronising animations and slogans before launching super long adverts several times in the middle of games. I used to complete one or more every day without fail. Now, I’m barely on it once a week. I don’t object to adverts - we’ve all gotta earn a living somehow- but I do object, most strongly, to the patronising comments and childish animations which immediately precede every one. The apps I use daily have ads, but a) play them between games, they don’t interrupt games with them; and b) don’t insult their ysers before each advert. Please, developers, take note. I would happily amend my review to a 5 star and return to regular play if so.

Boring since last update

I have done the daily challenge every day since November 2019. I only ever play Expert level. Never missed a day, if I was too busy one day I would catch up the next. Now if I miss a day it takes back to the start. I have to do simple levels. I don’t miss a day because it’s too hard, I miss it because I am too busy. I cannot be bothered with it anymore. It has become tedious and boring. Please sort this out. A simple “Difficulty” selection in the options allowing the user to say what level they want would be perfect. Let me know when you have sorted it. I won’t be bothering until you do.

Update - I received a response that told what I already knew and offered no suggestion that things may improve. Let me be clear, you have ruined this game, you need to sort it.

Update after the recent Upgrade

So I thought I should update this review as I’ve still been playing and now really like the challenge of having to think about the permutations, rather than relying on them always being there, on show. Definitely more sense of achievement, especially because I’m engaging my brain more. I think it was just a bit of a shock that everything suddenly felt different. I still think toggling permutations on and off would be a cool idea, but awarding another star after some solid gameplay.

I paid for the ad free version of this a couple of years ago, after becoming bored and frustrated with the original game. Not sure why the upgrade has actually removed features, especially showing the possible permutations or each cell. Would be great to have the option to toggle this on and off. Not a massive fan of the new font weights either. Maybe I’m just to used to the old version, but can’t seem to get into playing this now.

Great app… mostly

Really good killer sudoku app, easily the best I’ve played (as is the regular sudoku app by same people).

My only really gripe is that since a recent update, the daily puzzles have become quite easy. No real challenge to them, they all seem to be medium level whereas before a greater percentage of them were expert. I do them to challenge myself, and it’s just less challenging now with the daily puzzles.

Wish I’d paid to remove ads sooner, as they were really annoying, but I get why developers need to have ads on free apps.

Poor update

I used to enjoy the daily challenge puzzles, they were nearly always “expert” level puzzles. Now there are far more “medium” and “hard” puzzles which are too simple. I will now give up on the daily challenge, because it isn’t a challenge any more. I have reduced my rating from five stars to three to reflect this.

Added in response to the developer: My statistics show I have played over 100 expert games, and only 4 hard, no medium level puzzles and one easy one. I have been playing more “usual” games on the expert level, yet today my daily puzzle was a simple one. I’m not going to bother with the daily puzzle again, and may only now ‘dip in’ to the usual expert puzzles very occasionally. Such a shame, I liked getting my trophies.

Practically unplayable

This latest version is virtually unplayable. I’ve played this game daily for over 2 years and played over 2,000 games in that time. Recently, the game has become so laggy that it’s impossible to play. For example, you can press buttons and nothing happens. The notes on/off button in the worst for this - the button briefly flashes to show it’s been pressed, but the setting does change. Or you can highlight a cell, press a number, then move to highlight a new cell, but the game will process those actions in the wrong order - highlight first cell, highlight second cell, enter number, causing the number to go into the wrong cell. Overall, this has become an exceedingly frustrating playing experience.

Lost some great features

I love this app and Ive played it regularly Years, and I paid for it. Whilst I understand the developers removed the ads from the free version to make the game flow better and reduce annoyance - they also removed some great features the magnifier feature, that means I can now no longer read the very tiny notes without getting out my glasses and the helpful number permutations from the bottom of the screen. As someone who has paid for the app to get rid of adverts this is very very annoying. I wonder is going to be a future fee paying version where these features will be added back in?

Great game but the latest update is a little disappointing

I liked this game enough to pay for the ad-free version (well worth it!) but the new font size is too big as I’m playing on a larger iPad screen, so it’s actually a lot harder to read now than it was before and makes me feel a little dizzy, especially as the notes numbers are still tiny - the change makes no sense since if you can’t read the smaller font to begin with you’ll also struggle with reading the notes.

The new layout also doesn’t give me space at the edge of the screen to dock another app (such as a video app) without covering up important buttons. Previously I was able to have an overlaid app which only covered hint (which I rarely use) and meant I didn’t need to close or move the other app to play comfortably. The new layout means that I cover up the notes button by having my other app in the top right corner which is much more inconvenient. Allowing people to customise the font size and select from a few layout options would be an amazing improvement.

Aside from that, as others have said the game should have more than enough data to gauge my difficulty level but is currently giving me really easy daily challenges.

Disappointing update!

Have loved playing this game daily (often several games a day) for the past 3.5 years, so it’s clearly got a lot going for it. But the update that has just been sprung on us makes it far less enjoyable to play, mainly because: (a) I can no longer select number ranges in notes mode by swiping, which makes games much more tedious, and (b) 3-by-3 squares are no longer highlighted with the cells they contain, only rows and columns. One star off for each. The changes in appearance do at first make it feel a little odd, but I think legibility has increased, which is good, so a star back for that. But you’ve lost a star at least for your privacy policy, which may or may not have changed with this version, but makes it unlikely that I’ll play this game much once I manage to wean myself off it (something that will be easier thanks to the usability drop-off).

Great game but now spoilt by number of commercials

I really like this game and play it several times every day- but not anymore. As of yesterday, commercials now interrupt live games at around every 2-3mins and this is in addition to commercials between games and when returning to games after pausing. It is irritating beyond words to be concentrating on a game and have it interrupted by commercials. I appreciate why commercials are important but this latest escalation is a step too far. UPDATE To their credit, the developers have responded by promising to remove in game commercials. Let’s see what happens. In the meantime, I have paid the ( hopefully one off) £4.49 to remove all commercials from the game

Killer Sudokus are more challenging and interesting than normal ones anyway and this app is the best way to play.

Because you have the ability to ‘pencil in’ your alternatives, erasing them as you work through the puzzle is so much more user friendly (and less messy) than using pencil and rubber on a paper version. Makes it a dream to play!

I only do the Expert level, which really does tax your brain, and I love finding out how I compare with other players. I would like it if that comparison was shown after every game, instead of every third one or so.

I, personally, don’t do the puzzle to relax. I do it to challenge myself and keep my brain active as I enter my 70th year (!).

For beginners, there are easier levels to start off your journey, to allow you to learn strategies and work your way up, so there’s no need to be put off trying, just because you think that figures are not your thing!

Give it a go. You might surprise yourself!

Good Game

This is a very fun puzzle game, and the interface is pretty good. The annoying thing for me is the buttons are rather small, so fat thumbs often accidentally hit adjacent buttons. Strangely, if you accidentally change a correct answer to an incorrect answer, this counts as a “mistake”, which is true in a sense, but not in the way it ought to: I.e. it should be incorrect answers.

A recent update has also disabled the ability to listen to music or podcasts, which makes it extremely annoying if you are on the train or otherwise using headphones and want some background entertainment.

Challenges have too many easy level games

I enjoy the daily puzzle and find hard and expert games the most fun as there is some working out and logic involved. The challenges have way too many easy games and I find I get bored with them.

More recently though the daily challenges are all hard level not expert and I’ve moved on from hard games now as I’ve got better. Thank you killer sudoku : )

I love a blank puzzle! Gets the brain working and I refuse to get a hint. It can be worked out you just need patience and careful calculations.

New version still has mid game adverts!!!!

You say you listen to feedback and will act on it to make game playing more enjoyable which I thought was a good response as many players had complained about mid game adverts spoiling play. I was one of those people and deleted the app waiting for a new version which would respond to the reviews. So I noticed an update has been made 2.5.0 so I reinstalled your app. The first thing I noticed was that it is no longer coloured (I preferred the colour version) and then got an advert mid game! So much for listening and acting. I have deleted the app again. Shame.

Good game, shame about the ads

I like this type of sudoku and had tried the usual version too, but in these apps the ads are SO INFURIATING! If you HAVE to have ads, DON’T put them in the middle of the game, and SO OFTEN! These games are timed for your best effort, the ads appear right in the middle of your train of thought over and over again!! You try to rush to finish your train of thought because of them, which causes you to make silly mistakes you wouldn’t usually do, and then you have to try and go back to where you started, that’s if the ad doesn’t cause the app to crash, which it sometimes does. It completely ruins the experience and is SO FRUSTRATING and I will now delete the app, just as I did with the usual version, I was just waiting for this review opportunity to warn people!!!

Great game

I love this app, I’ve done every daily puzzle for the last two and a half years. One improvement I’d like to suggest, I wish I could set the level for daily games. I’m always rather disappointed when I see numbers filled in before I start, for me the whole idea of a killer sudoku is a blank grid that has to be worked at and to be honest I find anything under expert level far too easy. This is a minor thing though, in general the app is excellent.

Great App - could do with a bit of refinement

This app is pretty great and I’ve put a lot of hours into solving puzzles. There are a few minor annoyances, but I think they mainly apply to users who play a lot. For example:

- The scoring system is completely pointless and it doesn’t make much sense. My fastest games without mistakes aren’t the highest scoring. More annoyingly, when you enter numbers in the grid you can tell whether it is correct by seeing if your score improves. I therefore end up trying to avoid looking at the score because I don’t want hints. Please make the scoring optional!

- I have also accidentally hit the hint button a few times which is annoying. There should be a confirmation prompt.

- The notes are pretty one dimensional. Coloured notes would make things easier.

- Adverts mid game are really annoying and harm the ability to do speed runs. When you’re trying to complete the puzzle quickly they can distract your attention and lead to mistakes. I ended up paying to remove them. Maybe that’s the point of making them so frustrating.

- Having an ‘erase all’ button would be welcome. When I make a mistake I want to clear everything without restarting the clock and the only way to do that is to highlight and erase each cell individually.

The main issue is the scoring. Everything else would be a nice improvement. Other than that, I’ve poured a lot of my time into this app!

Sudoku

I have played this and always enjoy it however l tend to get distracted with ads particularly when they hard to get off just when concentration to complete the puzzle is vital! This is particularly upsetting in the Killer sudoku version and consequent tendency to error leaves me with insufficient chances to complete it. This l find frustrating to say the least.

Is there an option of having more chances, instead of just three so that l can complete the game please, ten for instance? I am new to the Killer version but l love it but more lives than just three would very much be appreciated. I realise there is a second chance already but this so stalled with adverts that it is not a viable option especially for me with my ageing equipment! Thank you in anticipation of your help. I am sure other sudoku buffs also will appreciate it !

Love this game!

I absolutely love this game! The expert levels are my favourite and I can often solve them without any hints if I spend a good hour or more working them out, even if I do get frustrated and annoyed at it! 🤣

To make this a 5/5 app, I just ask one thing… Can you improve the hints on expert levels to be informative like the normal sudoku game? I hate that a hint just reveals the answer to that one square and doesn’t provide you with help on how to solve it, i.e. “pointing pairs” or advise on “incorrect notes” or maybe telling me that the noted numbers won’t ever add up to the value of the summed area. Anything other than just revealing that square?! I want to improve my skills at completing the games I’m future, not just cheat outright.

Expert Mode Impossible

Expert mode is near impossible to do without my hints!! On the regular Sodoku, at least there are numbers provided in some squares at the beginning and you can figure out the solution from the beginning!! On Killer Sodoku, you need to be a member of MENSA to figure out these solutions because NO SQUARES ARE FILLED AND THE SOLUTIONS ARE RIDICULOUSLY HARD TO FIGURE OUT!! Needs a major improvement in this regard!!

Edit: in response to the developer feedback in which they clearly thought I was an idiot who couldn’t read, I can see that there are sums in the corners of the squares. My point was that I don’t want to use notes on expert level, similar to how I don’t use them on the regular Sodoku expert levels! If you had actually read my review, you might have realized that!!

Good game, solid ad implementation!

I don’t normally write reviews but felt it right to give credit where it is due…

The game is simple but solid, does what it says on the tin. I enjoy the slightly different take on the sudoku game which makes you think outside the box a little and come up with creative solutions.

But the thing that made me pause divide to praise this app over others is it’s much less annoying implementation of ads. Unlike most other aid which will have you watching for 30s or so, these ones are skippable much more quickly than any other app I use. Most other things I get frustrated at but not this, thankyou for finding a less obtrusive way to find development of the app 😇

Daily puzzle almost always crazy hard

Used to play the daily puzzle every day but for some reason recently they’re almost always crazy hard.

Even when you’ve pencilled-in all possible numbers there still doesn’t seem to be any way of working out the solution using any technique I know of without either using the hint button or just trying each number until it accepts it. So it’s become less of a puzzle and more of a banal busy-work exercise.

Please consider rebalancing the daily to a reasonable difficulty level!

Great game, but….

This is by far one of the sudoku games I’ve found to date. The ads were a little annoying and overpowering but I eventually bit the bullet and paid for it, the difference without the ads is astounding. It’s smooth and glitch free.

On a negative note, however, and the reason I gave 4 stars rather than 5. Despite buying the ad-free app I find that the progress can’t be synced between devices, indeed if I have to reset my phone for any reason I’ll have to repurchase the app. I tried contacting the game authors and got this response “Unfortunately, at this time we don't offer an option to sync progress between devices or restore it after reinstalling the app. We'll keep this in mind for further improvements and, hopefully, this option will be added in the next app releases. Stay tuned!”, what a shame!

Great game but record times are not functioning correctly.

I think this app is fantastic and I spend a lot of time completing expert levels as fast as I can. The record time system used to work correctly from what I saw before but now it is no longer working. It was motivating and rewarding to see myself beat a record time of mine of 4 minutes 30 on expert, but now I can complete the puzzle in 7/8 minutes and still be told that it is my new fastest time for Expert mode every game. Wish this was fixed! other than that, great app.

What has happened?

I’ve been doing the Daily puzzle every day for a long long time. Now suddenly it is not worth doing. Out of the last 4 days the daily puzzle has been wrong and impossible to solve on 3 occasions. E.g today… I have a correct 5 in a 9 square…2 of the other numbers in the same square should total 9….one of those 2 numbers is a correct 4, therefore obviously the other should be 5…impossible as there is already a 5 in the 9 square. The other days have had similar errors. It is now not worth bothering with as I am constantly wondering whether I will come to a dead end due to developer errors.

Mid-puzzle ads SO annoying!

I used to love this game, and accepted the ads before and after the puzzle as part of playing for free. However, now the puzzle will freeze mid-game and play yet another ad, and it has completely ruined the game. If you’re in the middle of a challenging puzzle, with your mind concentrating on the logic of numbers, you do not want your thoughts interrupted by a pointless ad. I now shut my eyes if the ad comes on, to maintain my thoughts, so the ad is a complete waste of my time and the advertiser’s money. Please stop this infuriating practice.

The developers have pointed out that I could pay to stop all ads, but I simply can’t pay £4.49 - it’s difficult enough for me to pay for food and fuel. I don’t mind ads before or after games (in other games I happily watch ads for free lives or whatever), it is simply the intrusive ones DURING the game I object to. They break my concentration, and the change of focus and colour (the ads are often very garish) even give me headaches.

Bit easy & lacking QoL features

"Expert" difficulty is not actually that challenging. It's not easy, but it's nothing when placed next to the more difficult killer sudoku out there. For example, cages are very small (sometimes only a single number) and placed in convenient patterns.

The other side of it is that the gameplay is missing some good QoL features. In particular, the ability to select multiple cells at once to write notes in, to select multiple cages and view their combined total, and to view and cross off the different combinations which a cage may hold. These features don't add anything which takes away from the skill, but they do make it require a lot less menial arithmetic!

Adverts

I loved this game when it first started playing, but adverts have been introduced every time a line or square is completed, meaning there are at least 10 adverts in every game and they are very long adverts. I have now uninstalled this game. I know there is an option to purchase without adverts, but it isn’t clear whether it’s a one off payment or a monthly payment.

I notice there are a lot of people deleting this app because of the mid game advertisements. We all realise there has to be some advertising for the game to be free, but at this rate there won’t be anyone watching the adverts, so advertisers will want to go elsewhere. In most of your replies it has been stated that mid game adverts will be taken out in the future. When will the game be going back to adverts only before and after games again? This has been promised for a long time now.

Annoying adverts - pay to remove them

An excellent app that used to have mildly annoying adverts has changed into a solid session of adverts with some sudoku squeezed in. It was getting ridiculous - complete a row or column, watch an advert, complete a square, watch an advert. I only kept at it as this is hands down the best killer sudoku app. Eventually I stumped up the cash to remove adverts, and I wish I’d done it ages ago. Now I just hope they don’t try to “improve” it and end up ruining it.

Having removed the adverts on one device they were automatically removed from all my devices.

The only thing that doesn’t work is the record time announcements - yesterday it told me that I’d completed the puzzle in 30 minutes or so, and told me that was the fastest I’d done that level, even though I’d completed one earlier that day (on the same iPad) in 12 minutes. I really don’t care about times or records, but it if it’s going to tell these things it should get them right.

Great game, but recent change has killed it

I’ve been playing this on daily basis for 3-4 months and the level of challenge is just right.

I have a habit of paying to remove ads from a game and then not playing, so I’m happy to watch an advert at the beginning and end of a game, and accept having to watch ads if I pause the game. That’s the price I pay for not buying the game. Devs have got to make money.

However, in the last few days ads have started playing mid-game and it completely disrupts flow of thought. I think they’ve broken the balance of free to play vs ads ratio, so I’m outta here. 😕

Great game spoiled by unremovable adverts

I have played this game for several months and it is an excellent implementation of Killer Sudoku. There’s a good range of skill levels, so you can pick and choose difficulty to suit yourself.

I’ve had no problems with the game itself and although the advertisements are a distraction, they rarely last for too long and occasionally they are of interest.

Unfortunately, I’ve recently had an advert for Jones Homes pop up which has no timer and no cancel button. There is no way to get rid of this advert without turning off my iPad.

In my opinion, a piece of software that interrupts the app I’m using to the extent that I need to reboot my hardware, is malware.

Please sort this out.

Over run by ads

Another app that has unfortunately been overrun by ads!

Whilst I understand you can purchase an “ad free version” I’m not going to be doing that. I’ll be deleting the app.

I didn’t mind the odd ad after solving the puzzle or before I start the puzzle as I understand that’s probably what funds the app to be free… but the last couple of days there has been several ads pop up mid puzzle. It’s very infuriating as this was the only app I was really using for quite a few weeks.

Without all the ads mid game this is a 5* app. I even enjoy the ones with no numbers making it super hard but making me think about it. Fix the ads and I’ll be back.

Used to be great but the ads are out of control

I loved this app and played everyday to relax, but the latest update brought an unwelcome feature - pop up ads that interrupt the game every 2 minutes. When a particularly difficult puzzle can take 20+ minutes to complete, it adds up to a lot of interruptions.

I’m not one to complain about ads on a free app, particularly on one I enjoy (ed) so much. I was fine with banner ads, the ads between games, the ads when you switch back to the app etc. It’s a fair price for a good experience. But these ads negatively affect the gameplay. For example, they confuse and disorientate you while you’re trying to count, they’re difficult to close, and they make it impossible to get a good time when trying to beat your best.

They’ve turned a relaxing, and fun game into a stressful experience, and I’m sad to say I’ll be deleting it.

Great but…

Firstly, it’s a great free killer sudoku app and probably the best free one available, the ads aren’t too many, the difficulty levels are good and the events are fun.

However, my favourite feature is the timer, I enjoy trying to beat my best time, yet every now and then the timer doesn’t work, I’m either forced to have a permanent best of 00:00 or I have to “give up” that game. Although, I never realise this happens till after I’ve finished the game, and I end up having to re-install the game and loose all my data.

Please fix this bug! Thank you :)

Great game

Further update 28August 2021: The shrunken screen area has been fixed and the game is now good again. Back up to 4 stars.

Update 10August 2021: I think I must have got an update. The grid is now too small to see without glasses. I can’t understand why this has been done, I mean what’s with all the whitespace around the grid? Decreased my review score from 4 to 2 stars as I now need to find by spectacles before I can play.

Original review: I used to solve Killer Sudoku every day in my newspaper. This puzzle is not available in the online version that I now use. It was great to find this app has created the puzzle in a version that I can now use. I use the expert level and it’s really good to play with some of the puzzles being difficult. What would be useful is to understand how the points are calculated. I seem to get between 78 and 81 each time but I have no idea what I have to do to improve.

Excellent Sudoku!

I love this version of Sudoku! After you’ve got the hang of it you’ll be just playing in the expert difficulty.

Only one thing that happens to me at times is accidentally touching a number, usually the wrong one and the mistake counter goes up. How about a single dab on a number is a note and a double dab is confirming that number?

Currently there is a limited number of mistakes but when reached you can still continue and make more mistakes, why not giving an option to make that a hard limit?

There are sometimes messages that I play faster than xy% of players. Is that considering the difficulty level? Why not adding this in the stat screen?

Good but annoying interaction with sound

When running this is pretty good and stable. Even the ads are sensible and not 30 seconds long. Overall nice experience.

Buuuuttttt

For some reason this pauses my sound when it starts. Not every time but often enough that it’s annoying. And tou can’t just double tap your AirPods to start again - that doesn’t work so you have to drop out, restart the sound and then go back to the game. This happens a few times a day. There’s zero reason for this and it’s quite annoying.

Excellent game, stats need a little polish.

I play a lot of sudoku and this one is excellent. The difficulty ranges from very easy to very very challenging, which is great. There is even a Clue option if you get stuck.

The one area that I would like to see improved is the Statistics. Despite all daily and event challenge games having a difficulty, these games do not appear in the relevant difficulty stats. Also, if you have just completed a game and click the Stats button it should take you straight to the relative stat section and not the general default page.

Other than that it is brilliant.

Change it please!

This is a very good version of sudoku and I have really enjoyed playing it. However, it all too easy to make a mistake and enter an incorrect number unintentionally. This could easily be resolved by providing separate ‘buttons’ to enter notes, rather than having to specifically switch between the two modes. Inadvertently entering an incorrect number rather than a note is VERY frustrating.

Love this game

I love sudoku anyway, and the killer version adds a totally new dimension. I was elated finding this app. My only issue with the app is the ‘error’ lock out. If you make three mistakes you ‘lose’ - however, if you ask for a second chance and watch an ad you can continue.

I have no issue with this in principle, but it is a problem for me as I flick in and out of the app and when I open it up to continue a game, it is not always in the same ‘mode’ (specifically the note mode as opposed to entering numbers mode). This means that the wrong number can be entered when I wanted to remove a possible answer. The same happens with fat fingers, I hit an adjacent number in error to the one I wanted, or even find I have entered a number into an adjacent box and end up losing the game.

Very frustrating, but everything else I love.

After 136 solved puzzles

On my 137th puzzle instead of number 3 I miss touched number 2 and didn’t even release it but just held and tried to move my finger to number three which was correct number. The game said number two is incorrect, and my solution is wrong. After which I saw the main screen.

I’ve checked my history and now my success rate is 99-something %

If you know how to play sudoku you’ll only need expert mode, others are incredibly easy

Devs should do something with miss clicks, it shouldn’t be counted as a mistake before another number entered so the player can always correct themselves if accidentally pressed the wrong number which are close to each other.

What also made me mad is the fact if I had auto remove number option on I wouldn’t lose as I wouldn’t have chance to complete the puzzle incorrectly.

So I’ve just been punished for playing on a harder settings.

Love it....

Thought this was ‘just another sudoku’ How wrong could I have been... ok, it’s similar, but the issue/idea of having to also make the numbers add up, that’s what gets it from ‘ok’ to ‘kind-of-addictive’. I had the game come up as an ad, and kept seeing it and thought it looked different. Sometimes when you see a trailer for a game it’s not necessarily that game that you get.. this ones different. What it showed in the trailer-ad is exactly what I got. And for that, and the fact I’m becoming quite addicted, is why I’m gonna give it the FIVE STARS it truly deserves.

Useful approach

This version adds embedded clues by providing the total value of a set of boxes, which means you have more to help you on your way. It also means that the harder puzzles can give you less preset numbers as a starter. Therefore the approach to solving introduces basic arithmetic as well as logic, which I like.

There are two reasons I did not give five stars. Firstly, there could be improvements in the display to help on the logic. For example, highlight all the columns and rows containing a selected number. Secondly, the advert feedback seems to be faulty. It has fed me the same advert constantly. It is one that is not at all relevant to me. I have allowed relevant adverts.
