It can be extremely stressful when your child is unwell. We know that there is a huge amount of information available at your fingertips, but finding something that provides clear and accurate information is not always easy!

The resources on the Healthier Together have been developed in partnership between parents and NHS healthcare professionals. You'll find clear information on common childhood illnesses, including advice on what 'red-flag' signs to look out for, where to seek help if required, what you should do to keep your child comfortable and how long your child's symptoms are likely to last.

Most importantly, the resources are used not only by parents but also by healthcare professionals. This means that your child is likely to receive consistently high-quality care, irrespective of which healthcare provider you take them to see. And their advice is likely to mirror that on Healthier Together. Reducing unnecessary variation improves the overall quality of care and reduces the parental anxiety that inconsistent advice generates

The NHS Healthier Together app has been designed to allow you to access care for your child much more easily. If your child is unwell and needs to be seen by a healthcare professional, instead of having to call your GP surgery, you will be able to use the app to directly inform your GP about your child’s symptoms. Your GP practice will then contact you to decide what needs to be done. And if you are seeking help when your GP surgery is shut, it will direct you to NHS 111. Lots of other parents have already downloaded it and have found it extremely useful.

Useful info

Some really useful health info on there. But the feedback function doesn’t work. Ironic. And the website sends you in a loop to complete your location details without letting you get past it. Possibly because not all GP’s are registered. So frustrating when you just want some quick health info.

Unusable

Unusable unless you register as a patient with a specific listed practice. This means you cannot use the app as a professional or if you are registered at a different GP practice.

It’s not working

When I was able to use the app, it was quite helpful and my GP would insist we booked appointments using the pathway on the app. However, it hasn’t worked for months. It goes to load and kicks me out. I’ve uninstalled and reloaded the app, updated my iOS and nothing. Cannot find anywhere to get this resolved. Dud app.

Useless

Whenever I have used this I never get the chat option. My options are always A&E, 111, GP or pharmacist. I knew about all these options anyway. It's just an additional step that I don't need.

Does not follow NHS guidelines

For that feels very inconsistent with the NHS. Perhaps it was intentional but I’m not sure. Font, buttons, card treatment. Can it not be inline with the style guide? Uniformity and consistency is key from the NHS so this looks disjointed.

Aside for the missed opportunity on consistency . The app functions well.

Apps not working

I'm trying to use this app for the last two months but its not working at all.

Terrible app

Not user friendly. The doctors directed me towards it and said I needed the amber section but no way of knowing how to get there.

They had to download it themselves in order to help.

When you finally get to the typing area it doesn’t allow you to scroll back up in what you’ve already typed. You have to click ‘Done’ to see the first part and if there’s a typo it’s really difficult to click on it to correct it. When you manage to get in the right place and start typing it changes focus to the bottom so that you can’t see what, or where, you are correcting. This needs fixing.

Gives different results on different phones

Very poor app and potentially unsafe. My doctor wouldn’t see my 11yr old without me using the app first. Since not urgent and nothing on the amber list I was left with no options despite my child’s symptoms getting worse.

Next day (Saturday when our GP was closed) my wife does the same on her phone - all details identical except there is a “is getting worse or if you are worried” option!

Why don’t I get this option !!! Surely it should be the same whichever device I use.

Now waiting for a phone back from the 111 nurse.

Not a great start. The app won’t me set up my profile. Unfortunately, it is stating that being a male is not within its current remit.

Very frustrating

I have downloaded the app and can’t get past the first page. I’m trying to enter my details and it won’t allow me to select NO when it asks if I could be pregnant. It comes up with an error message that says “Profile type not currently supported. This will be added soon.”

Brilliant app!

I’ve been using this for a year now. Every time I put message into the app my children get a same day appointment. Usually I get a phone call within an hour or 2 saying come in. You need to know how to work around it. If you click any of the red symptoms you won’t get an appointment ofcourse as there urgent. But if you clicked “other” at the bottom of the illness lists, no to the red symptoms, then on the orange symptoms at the bottom there’s a option “my childs getting worst and I’m worried”. That’s the best option to click if your concerned about child illness and need an appointment. That’s helped me get same day appointments for child ear infections, chest infections etc. Once you get the hang of it, it’s a brilliant app that prioritises children! Highly recommend to every parent.

We’ve used the app now a couple of times as my GP suggested before contacting for an appointment. Each time it’s directed to where I can get the best support, not always my GP. The website is even better, a wealth of information.

Why tell patients when clearly not ready?

When adding my details I have to be pregnant and can’t enter my sons name as only a number keyboard is available. Fix it then issue it to the masses! Does nobody check this app before it goes live!!!!

Really bad

Instantly unable to proceed as the fields only opened a numerical option for my child’s name!! After naming my child ‘123’ I found that whilst looking for direction about a nose bleed I was unable to scroll though advice!! Gave up!! Hopefully no one will rely on the app in a potentially dangerous situation.

I can’t get past the first step of choosing GP practice. I’m in Wales and only GPS in England seem to be listed. The app es recommend to me by the 111 service in Wales, so I was expecting it to work here.

As I’m not near my daughters GP surgery it only searches for those near me…. Even with the correct name and postcode. Pointless as you can’t turn location services off until later. Can’t use.

Doesn’t work

First step of adding doctors practice comes up with an error message. By getting past that and selecting another surgery in the group it asks me to enter my full name by only bringing up the number keyboard ! Not a great start.

Beyond useless and a waste of NHS money

Ridiculous and very limited app, essentially no matter the health issue your child has, the “advice” is the same and it offers no useful information. All of the bullet points in the limited traffic light system can be summed up as: child stopped breathing = red/ phone an ambulance. Are you worried = seek advice from GP and anything else = care at home.

No inbetween no details, may as well ask a GP receptionist seeing as they know it all, unlike this app.

I’m confused why NHS wants us to use technology to help alleviate the pressure on them but they produce an app that doesn’t work…

Can only add one adult

Just downloaded the app and the first thing that I notice is that you can only add one parent/carer to the profile!!! It says this is for the “entire family”. Needs to have an update that fixes this issue. Will continue to look into this app as I have 3 children under 15 & I’m the main carer as my wife has MS, so my kids tend to be acting as if they’re at deaths door with just a cough & hopefully by having the full facts to present to them, they’ll go to school without any fuss!!! 🤯🤣🤣

Needs some work

Just downloaded, able to register with ease. Used the symptom checker as advised by community midwife, movement concerns only lead to a piece of text information, so used the 111 online symptom checker… that then advised to call the labour line!? Having spoken to another midwife on the labour line she advised it was the community midwife line I needed to call. So gone round the houses… and my first phonecall without using the app was correct in the first place. A shame I was still directed to the app tbh.

I tried to share this feedback in the app feedback section but the feedback section isn’t loading, hence sharing on here. I appreciate the feedback is needed for the necessary tweaks to be made.

Profile details

Downloaded the app and set up my profile. I’m trying to ask for some advice with migraines during my pregnancy and it won’t let me get past the first symptoms icon!!

Just says check if emergency, and nothing comes up to say yes or no!!!

completely useless - does not work on Apple

I was asked to download it by my midwife and I was told I will be able to check my symptoms and call maternity triage lane when needed. Symptoms checker does not work, and it does not give me options to follow further…. It was a nightmare to register as I could not easily fill out the details. I have iPhone 12 Pro Max, it runs on a latest version and I downloaded this app and re-downloaded couple of times! How you can get support while pregnant when technology is not up to standard, it has not been developed up to standard or tested if it works? It is very frustrating!!!

Female and only option to be pregnant

Set up the app today. Put down that I was female and then it asked if I was pregnant : Yes or No. clicked on No and it states profile type not supported!?!? So only option to continue to set up is to put that I am (but I’m not).!?
