Description

The Volkswagen app is the digital companion for your Volkswagen. It allows you to use mobile online services, irrespective of which model you drive with which drive type and whether you have a VW Connect, We Connect or Car-Net contract.
With the Volkswagen app, for instance, as the primary user, you can view your Volkswagen vehicle’s current range, pre-set your preferred temperature, find filling stations and charging stations and much more!
Here are just a few of the wide range of services available:
• Vehicle status: Check whether the vehicle is locked and the lights are switched off
• Send your destination to your vehicle with ease before you travel
• View the last parking position
• Store your preferred authorised workshop or contact Volkswagen AG directly
• Vehicle Health Report
• View the remaining range and current charge level even when you're not in the vehicle
Find out for yourself! The scope of functions may vary in particular according to vehicle configuration, contract (VW Connect, VW Connect Plus, We Connect or We Connect Plus), software version and market. Certain functions may become available for your vehicle at a later date where applicable.
You can find more information on connectivity on the Volkswagen website in the Connectivity section.
We Charge:
• Availability of charging stations in real time and further details (operator, charging capacity, etc.)
• Manage charging plans and charging cards and view charging history
• Connect and control the charger at home
You can find more information on We Charge on the Volkswagen website in the We Charge section.
The Volkswagen app is the former We Connect ID. app and also incorporates the functions of the We Connect app.
Download the Volkswagen app and updates free of charge using the button. If you do not perform available updates, you may not be able to access the full range of functions in their entirety.
You can give us feedback from the Volkswagen app. We welcome praise, suggestions and constructive criticism. Please also let us know if the technology is playing up or there are any other issues.
To use the mobile online services, you need a Volkswagen ID user account and to log in to the Volkswagen app with your username and password. In addition, a separate contract (VW Connect, VW Connect Plus, We Connect or We Connect Plus) on the use of mobile online services must be concluded with Volkswagen AG online at www.myvolkswagen.net or via the Volkswagen app. More information is available at connect.volkswagen.com and your Volkswagen dealership.
ID.3 Pro: Electricity consumption in kWh/100 km: combined 16.5-15.2; CO2 emissions in g/km: combined 0. Consumption and emissions data is only available for the vehicle according to the WLTP, and not according to the NEDC. Information on consumption and CO₂ emissions with ranges depending on the selected equipment of the vehicle.
In practice, the actual electrical range varies depending on factors including driving style, speed, use of convenience/auxiliary equipment, outside temperature, number of passengers/additional load, topography and the battery's age and wear process.

Locating vehicle

Every time I open the app I can’t see my cars location. I have to come out of the app and close it, then go back into it and then the car can be located. Any answers as it sucks as a paying customer for something that doesn’t work first time

Updated - still useless

App constantly just has an error message saying “something went wrong” and I cannot access it. What is the point of an app if I can’t use it to operate car functions remotely?
I am unable to de-ice my id4 unless I am sitting inside it because the app never works. Unlike my previous cars I cannot leave it running while I get thekids ready for school. Volkswagen is making my life worse, not better, through its poor application of technology. It is not progressive, it’s just “ooh we have an app”. If we weren’t stuck on a lease with this car I’d be getting rid of this VW. Have had VW 20 years but had enough. You sell in a market that has seasons including winter. Do better.

Poor effort

Very poor effort compared to Volvo app for example as I can’t even remotely start my car, the sync data is incredibly slow, the contact numbers don’t work as they’re not the correct UK format (or not correct at all) and the complaint form keeps asking me to fill the field even though I’ve already typed my issues into it.

Raise the bar VW

This is not a well intergrated app, the parking and charge app seem separate, getting network connectivity is awful and there are inconsistencies within online videos and descriptions versus what the app and in car software do.
It’s bloody awful software for an otherwise brilliant car.

Nothing Amazing

The good : When it works it works well, being able to pre-heat the car is very much appreciated in the winter.
The bad : Occasionally the pre-heating wont work, it will say it’s working but nothing will happen. Maybe once a month it will simple refuse to activate the pre-heat and you need to reset the infotainment system to fix it.
The really bad : No Apple Watch companion app in Europe is criminal, especially as it’s available in the USA.

Could be much more useful

The app is useful for checking the locked status of the vehicle, or fuel level
however I think it could be further utilised by giving an alert 1 to 2 minutes after the driver exits the vehicle, if the vehicle has not been locked
it could also provide an alert when the tailgate or door has not been closed properly.

Limited functionality and the reminders that show if you left your door open or car unlocked aren’t coming through.

Subscription is a joke

Good app but after 2 years of using it I suddenly got a message that I need to pay £129 per year to carry on using it - what a joke, it’s a very expensive car already, the app should be free!
Since when heating a car up became a subscription-based commodity??
This is really the only use for the app since the navigation part of it is useless and pointless when you have Google maps/ Waze/Apple Maps

Not as good as the vehicle

Currently ID Buzz (great great vehicle) after an ID3 and other evs before. Unfortunately the software and especially the app are not as good as the VW vehicles. In 2026 you can do less in a VW app than what you could have done in 2016 with a Tesla. You can see the charging target in the main page but to change it you have to go to another section and after setting and saving it there, back to the main page the target is still the previous one. This and many details make this app “old”.

Awful app

This is one of the worst apps I’ve ever used. It’s complex, convoluted, and nonsensical. Just trying to change the cars charge level is tricky. The departure times don’t work half the time. You can’t change the charging type, i.e. from scheduled charge to charge immediately unless the car is currently charging. The app design/development team need to lose their jobs.

Scott

I have just bought a 2020 VW polo and although the Vin has been accepted elsewhere this app fails at the first point of contact, well after harvesting my email address etc…. It talks about not being able to connect, so is this just designed for electric cars? Not according to the app description which certainly suggest that it should be good for me. In particular I would like to get at a user manual and that should be the first purpose of this app.

Not much use because it keeps disconnecting…

This app routinely disconnects from the car so I don’t really see the point of it. I want to use it to remotely wake the car up and set the heating or air con, or check battery life, but unless I’ve just been in the car it’s invariably disconnected so I have to go to the car anyway and do it manually. I tried connecting to the wifi network at home (and it’s parked literally next to the full fibre router we have) but this made no difference. When it works it’s fine, but it rarely does.

ID BUZZ connectivity

Very poor app functionality, particularly on e-charging, lets down a superb vehicle. Lost connection with my home Ohme charger and I cannot reconnect, leading to sub-optimal charging plus it’s just generally clunky (as noted in multiple car test reviews). Also poor multi-user functionality. VW can do so much better than this to match the quality of vehicles with half-decent apps and in-car infotainment systems, I look forward to speedy software updates!

It can’t even display correct millage!

VW need to work harder on this aspect of their business. The people who design the app need to try and use it before they release it for customers. It does almost nothing to assist the managment or even the status of the vehicle.
It fails to indicate even the most basic information such as the battery charge level consistently. Today after a full charge to 100% it initially showed a range of 234 miles before reverting to 145 miles after about 3 seconds. (Yes I tried synchronising and restarting the app a few times)

Good

On the whole the app is a great companion to the car. It allows me to set heating and aircon schedules or simply activate it a few minutes before getting in and lock or unlock the car remotely. It would be good if there was more control such as steering wheel heating, that comes on automatically on cold days but it’d be good to have that level of control from the app, windscreeen heating too.

OK

This app is not bad and it seems to do the basics reasonably well but it is basic. It’s OK for pre cooling or heating the car but that’s about it really.
It would be nice to be able to search things on my phone, find an address for, say, a shop and then be able to sent the shop location to my car but sadly that isn’t possible.
Still, seems pretty solid and (most importantly of all) I haven’t seen any bugs in it!

Needs more features within

App appears clean and minimalistic in terms of design.
However, having driven a competitor brand (also German) and used their app prior to this one, I am quite shocked and disappointed as to how basic the Volkswagen App is.
Given the ID7 is what I would assume to be VWs Flagship, I’d expect features within the app to include remote unlocking of doors, opening windows and more importantly as a consumer and a business user; the ability to track analytics and statistics; miles per day, per week, month as well as being able to track the costs (and kWh) of charging the car when for example at home, in office or when using public charging stations.
I am hopeful that these features will be brought out in future updates as just this “small” feature makes the difference between having administrative nightmares that simply make me think if I did the right thing moving over from the other manufacturer to VW.

Dreadful

UPDATE
App stopped syncing with my car 49 days ago. Reinstalled app but still unable to sync. Requested help from VW and got request for info from VW but unable to reply as from a do-not reply account! Other manufacturers manage to get his right but not VW!
If I could give zero stars I would.
You forced me to shift to this ‘improved’ app from WEConnect which worked quite well.
Despite being logged into my account and showing the correct vehicle, it wont synchronise. It shows the incorrect mileage, the incorrect location (35 days old despite hitting the sync function), shows a URL not recognised error when trying to select driving data, no longer has the functionality to recognise my diary, won’t allow me to see or edit any of my previously saved destinations from the app … where shall I stop? Oh and I had to give up personal details uploading my drivers license in order to access functionality which I could before but ironically with this new improved app, no longer works!

Latest software version 2.47.0 is incompatible with iOS 18.4

Don’t upgrade to latest version 2.47.0 if you have Apple iOS 18.4 because you will lose the battery charge & range display and also you will not be able to access the charging function. I have reported this to the VW Helpdesk and they still have not fixed the issue. It’s fair to say that I am quite disappointed with their service. This is so frustrating as every time Apple upgrades, The VW connect app has issues!!! For a corporation like VW not communicating with Apple and ensuring smooth version updates is unacceptable!!!! Please fix it or I will boycott buying VW and I will ensure my family & friends do not either.

Average

It’s an app that delivers a poor user experience. The data presented is not particularly reliable. For example, it shows the vehicle as being unlocked when in fact it it is locked. This always means going to where the vehicle is parked and checking it physically. Trying to lock the vehicle from the app has only worked a couple of times in 18 months. The calendar display of trips made is clunky and not particularly intuitive. I’d like to get rid of all the irrelevant EV content as my vehicle is diesel powered and have no interest in seeing links to EV content. On the upside, there are a few useful features such as showing nearby filling stations and fuel prices. It’s a shame it isn’t more user-friendly.

Slow, constantly having to re-login, others do it better

Painful to use it seems every time I want to use it I have to login. Very slow to update, use it to fill in my expense mileage but half the time the information is for the day before. Links to buy another VW seem to work better than the rest of the app. Limited functionality and I expect most of that will be gone in 2 years when VW will expect me to pay for it again (limited life of on-line services). As with the car software on my Tiguan poor and not very user friendly when compared to other manufacturers’ products.

Clunky and Struggles with poor signal

The app is ok, but it’s a bit slow and clunky, the main annoyance is that the app and vehicle don’t deal with low phone signal well and doesn’t like switching carrier. The other annoying thing is the refresh button on the enlarged app widget doesn’t work and then you have to go through two menus and to the bottom of that page to press the refresh button. Just put the refresh button on the first page or make it so you can swipe down to refresh.

Poorly designed, very limited functionality

This app is a real disappointment, I would not have bought the ID.5 GTX had I appreciated fully how poorly designed the software is. This review is on the app, but the poor design extends to the car too, unfortunately.
The main problem is user selection. To be able to use the app, you have to be logged in as the user in the car. Suppose you let a guest use the car. Or another person has a profile. If they use the car, you, the master user use all functionality in the app until you physically log into the car. No more visibility of the charging stats, no ability to set the climate. I, as the master user, should be able to have full access at all times.
The functionality is very limited, even when you are logged in. No remote lock/unlock option, for example. This is used relatively infrequently, but it is useful. My 2013 BMW had it. So did the 2017 one. So does the 2020 Tesla. No such luxury in 2023 ID.5 GTX…
You essentially have two functions - battery status and climate control. Basics like remote software update controls, locking, user logging, car details (mileage/efficiency) are unavailable.
It is a poorly designed app. The user selection issue is so flawed I would classify it as a bug. The software is flawed in the car as well, laggy, very hard to navigate.

Software - app problems

Having used your Id3 app for a couple of years now, I am at a loss as to why you seem not to be able to resolve a problem with the display that shows the available number of miles/km and battery remaining. The miles/km shows ok some of the time, then flips to some random number, completely wrong, until synchronised with the vehicle, although the battery percentage does not alter and remains the same. This is most confusing and annoying. Please can you sort this out?

Bring back we connect

Since I’ve been using this app it has progressively got worse with features and usability. In over 8000 miles of use it never seems to store long term data! Most it’s held has been around 1200 miles before it reset the data?! What’s the point of this if it won’t store it! Charge level is back but can’t start a manual charge like before. Every time I want to log in to see driving data I have to keep logging in and then some of the data for the day is missing in the graph but is available in the data section below! Very poor considering the previous app was pretty decent. Disappointing….

Was good. Now pointless

I had all the useful features, and my online “start” contract ends next year, but now my vehicle range on the app is blanked off and the information is very poor on the website to try fix it. So now the app is not working right from what it was, less features than other manufacturers and along with the many bugs still there on the id3, this will be my last VW I have after a long time vag group fanboy since my 2003 seat ibiza and working as a technician at Skoda and Audi. At least until you sort yourselves out. Come on! You are better than this.

Issues continue since switching from VW connect

Recently Departure times started working again, however after leaving a car parked for over few days, none of those smart features work (although car’s battery was over 62%). I got back & out of the airplane and still couldn’t get the app to turn the air conditioning on. Nor I could see the charge level. Driving data view doesn’t show data, more of “couldn’t be loaded” if I translate it to English. And well, having 2023 model but seeing the older model photo within the app is disappointing!

Pure frustration

It has been nothing short of frustration using this app. Every month I have to reset myself as primary user. 3rd time now. If I plug my phone in to charge when I start it constantly crashes the entertainment system until I unplug it. I’ve had no pleasure using this app/system hence 1star rating
Changed to three stars after speaking to two people and got things set up consistently after deleting and setting up new. Still issues with crashing entertainment system sometimes when charging phone. I’ll live with it.

Promised lots but never delivered

So when I brought an ID3 it was sold as the competitor to the Tesla model 3 with the fact that the soul of the car was technology and connectivity from the ground up vs traditional cars .
I have had the we connect app now for 2 years and I can say that for only 3 months on and off for those 2 years does the app give the correct range , it suffers with connectivity issues to the car on and off and also any preferences like charging at preferred times you had to select every time you charge and sometimes it wouldn’t even sync back .
The only function of the app that I would say has worked well is the pre conditioning / heating option .
The app should be so far advanced in those two years I’ve had it but I feel like they’ve spent majority of the time fixing things that never worked but at the same time every new update will fix one thing and break another it’s a never ending cycle .
VW is known for reliability as a car brand I agree but jumping into the tech world was way too soon for them and maybe still is .

Bring back the old app…

Awful app…what a downgrade from the WeConnect app. Was using the old app for my eGolf and worked perfectly, was able to control my vehicle settings, charge times were set up could set my heating on before and all synced perfectly to the car. I used this for three years at which point you lose some of the features. To get this for year 4, I l paid for the additional yearly subscription to receive the features on WeConnect.
Then they switched to this dreadful app..my charge times are completely screwed up, I can’t start charging from the app, can’t lock/unlock, can’t preset heating and it doesn’t even sync to my car anymore. And on top, makes things worse the additional Security & Service Plus annual subscription I paid for…doesn’t even work on this new app so thanks for taking my money and then pulling the features and app!!
App has put me off future VW EVs and a key factor my car is up for sale now…how this app made it past testing stages I have no clue.

Useless

For an EV owner, having complete control over charging schedules and cabin pre-conditioning is crucial to the overall experience but this app has gone from buggy to useless lately.
It’s now impossible to set a charge for departure without the app either failing to start the charge on time or randomly charging the car immediately which leaves the car sitting at 100% for several hours earlier than required which goes against VW’s own battery care advice.
If it’s not the middle of the night and I happen to notice charging has started early, switching back to timed usually results in error messages. If I then re-programme the departure time on the car’s dashboard it initially works for a while then either the app or VW’s servers override the setting and charging recommences immediately.
On top of this pre-heating/cooling the cabin remotely takes several minutes to sync and often fails altogether at weekends (server maintenance?) for some reason. And despite being reported to VW by hundreds of UK owners including myself over a year ago, the app STILL mis-converts kilometres to miles on the range estimate by a factor of 1.6 if it hasn’t synced with the car for a while.
People tolerated the app being buggy when the car was first released but to still be unreliable and stubbornly unusable for much of the time three years on is not acceptable. If VW’s own team can’t or won’t sort these problems out it’s time to bring in a competent third party to resolve them.

Poor replacement for a poor successor

The WeConnect app wasn’t great but this is worse. It has the same bugs as WeConnect (telling you doors or windows are open when they aren’t etc) but this isn’t really an app it’s just a skin into various VW websites which you have to log into every time you use the app. So things like driving data which were integral to WeConnect now aren’t. Classic IT software development of designing something new which removes good functionality from the previous version and replaces it with something worse. Designing a decent usable app surely shouldn’t be so difficult for a company as large as VAG ?

Very happy with the app so far

Started using this app having taken delivery of an ID Buzz a couple of weeks ago. I’ve not had a car before with a connected app, so I’ve nothing to compare it with, but in general:
A) it takes a bit of getting used to, but then straight forward enough when you’ve got familiar with it
B) it works as advertised. I’ve not had any issues with poor synchronisation or other problems
C) for me as a first time car app user, it has sufficient features - I’ve not (so far) thought “I wish it did …”

Frustrating

The app is very poor … both my wife and I have problems syncing to the app. I have a hybrid Tiguan and my wife has an id 3. We’ve both tried to reset our links; resetting login details, reinstalling the app and resetting passwords- several times. Every time we manage to get it working (rarely) there’s a software update on the vehicle or our device and that’s it again. I’ve contacted the vw support twice without any reply. The vehicles are great … but for some reason the software links are extremely poor (at best) obviously this negates the potential advantages of being able to activate applications on the vehicles remotely… sorry for the negative review but it’s to save other people wasting time

Not working

We Connect app was perfect by showing all informations about vehicle and give a different commands to the car which I find very useful and helpful.
Unfortunately the new Volkswagen app doesn’t upload any data or information ( in my case for about couple of months) so I can not understand why you removed something which was working perfectly and changed with a rubbish one.
After all that plenty software issues which VW services couldn’t fix them for about a year, even under warranty , now one more pain from you by wasting our expectations and our time!
I may be very sharp but this is the reality.
Not nice at all and I am very disappointing for!

A backward step

“We Connect” was ok. It told me everything about my Tiguan and I renewed and paid for two more years when the new car contract ran out.
If I had known this sub standard app was to replace it I might not have bothered. It tells you less and most options merely open the web page version anyway. Up till last week, this crashed more than worked. Glad to see it working slightly better now.
I don’t like giving negative reviews but I’m struggling here, given that the predecessor app We Connect was so good. I’ve just bought a VW California so now have two vehicles on it. I hope it improves. Even if only to the level the old app had…

Take away functions, call it an upgrade…

I’ve been forced to switch to this from WeConnect for my GTE. Didn’t think much of it, but tried to switch the windscreen heating option on before leaving for work, nope, not in this app you don’t. When forcing users to use ‘new and improved’ apps it’s generally a good idea not to take away functionality. 3 stars from me for that reason, otherwise it would be 5. UPDATE: Down to a 1 now. Every “upgrade” takes away something else. This update stopped showing me my driving data AND no longer allows me to switch on the air conditioning to prewarm the cabin on a cold morning. Clicking the “contact the app developers” takes me to a German page which I, sadly, cannot understand. I’ll be leasing a different brand of car when this comes up for renewal because this app experience is ruining VW for me (and I forgave them for the diesel scandal too, but you can’t keep taking the pee VW).
Update 2: Ok, back to a four now, most functions are back and working, including the heated rear screen switch and cabin air conditioning. Great car, software is getting better finally.

Identification Problems

The app replaced the original app used for connecting to my Tiguan Ehybrid but has less functionality, unless identification is verified by VW’s partner, IDnow Ident. I have tried 4 times to go through the verification process using a driving licence and each time I see an “identification expert” on screen speaking German who clearly can’t see or hear me, despite having set my settings to allow access to microphone and camera……. And each time it dumps me out almost immediately. Not sure the app is meant to have full functionality in the UK. Poor show VW.

App doesn't work as well as We Connect

I was forced to move to this new app today from We Connect. The old one wasn't great but this is even worse. I can't see the driving data, mpg etc and can't see details of drive issues etc. I know its ad blue but that used to show up in the We Connect app. When I try to see the driving data, it asks for input of my email address and then it just hangs with a blank screen and cross in the corner. Also what's with the need to redo the identity check. That ought to be unnecessary when moving from We Connect. Very disappointing, as the main thing I used the App for was to check mpg.

Forced to Downgrade.

Yesterday I was forced to downgrade my e-Up We Connect app to the Volkswagen app and I’m not happy at all.
Since I started using the We Connect app in 2014 it has worked intermittently and usually not at all in the winter when you need it most. Recently I renewed the contract for two more years based on the fact that it had improved significantly, then VW decided to scrap it without user consultation, typical German thinking - still dictatorial.
As anyone with a e-UP will know, the Volkswagen app is missing certain functions and useful information about how the vehicle is responding to my driving style including trip information and historical driving data. I also cannot synchronise the app to my vehicle to give me the up to date charging status for example.
This migration from the We Connect app to the Volkswagen app was premature, inconsiderate and very poorly thought through especially at this time of year, when as I mentioned previously “we need it the most” what really grates is the fact that I gave VW £160 in good faith for continued connectivity to my vehicle and now I find I can do hardly anything, no chance of a refund I suppose, either that or GET IT FIXED.

Rubbish

Update:
“We Connect” now gone, so all we’re left with is this new piece of rubbish. It was updated a day or two ago and VW obviously decided not to use that update to make it work (still got error codes if looking for driving data). Very poor indeed. Can I withdraw my one star rating and replace it with a zero?
Have been using “We Connect” which was pretty poor, but is being dropped, and we need to use this thing instead. Where We Connect was poor, this is absolutely appalling. Non intuitive user interface. Doesn’t synch well. Error codes if trying to view driving data. Can only assume it was written by a day one developer who hasn’t finished training yet.

Improving

I use this app with my ID.3 and it’s pretty decent, my one complaint if I’m nit picking is manually starting the climate control from the app can take a bit of time but nothing awful. It’s improved over time.
I wish they’d said they added the widget though. The thing is really convenient and seems to work really well for keeping track of my battery level. I need to look into how often it updates when charging because just tapping or lifting my phone to get my car’s charge level and range while having a drink is a simple but welcome addition to my Home Screen.

Not the upgrade I was expecting

Due to the End of Life for WeConnect ve been advised to move to this app.
My car was all synced up correctly with the weconnect app with charging schedules and locations.
New app doesn’t see these schedules despite them being done in the car in the first place.
Echo other users issue with updates to charge state. Got up this morning to say range was same as when I went to bed. Assumed car hadn’t charged but actually the car hadn’t synced for 8 hours.
Never had these issues with weconnect so will be going back till it is no longer supported.

Continually need to log in

The app is quite good, gives me the information I need, car stays, driving statistics etc. However, I need to sign in every time I use the app to view driving information, even though it already recognises me as the main driver. It would be good if the sign on bug could be fixed.
I’m downgrading this review from 4 stars to one star. This app is nowhere near as good as the - about to be discontinued - WeConnect app. It’s very buggy, doesn’t sync properly with the information on my car and doesn’t show the same level of information. I also (continually) have to re-login every time I use it. Not good at all. Come on VW, you need to step your game up if this functionality is going to be chargeable in future.

Awful

VW clearly assumes that only one person can drive their cars. Any attempt to set up my partner as a user results in me losing my access. Clearly VW thinks a two person household must mean a two car household.
Then they kick you out for no obvious reason, and you have to navigate multiple linked systems- in different languages, to figure out that they want to start monetizing their awful software so make you « buy » it for a set period of time.
None of this was made clear to us when we bought the car - which is nice to drive, only the operating system and software completely lets it down. I plan to try another brand of car.

Nowhere near as good as the old app

This app is supposed to be an upgrade from the old ‘we connect’ app but is none even on the same page!
The old app was so simple to use but with this one you have to go find the information that you want to access, and some of it has gone completely like being able to turn on the heated screens for morning defrosting (unless it’s buried somewhere else in the app)
I was hoping that the ‘new’ app would be more comprehensive with more data available, sadly disappointed with this app and not looking forward to when the old app ends.
I can see no good reason to re-subscribe when my current subscription ends.

Far worse than the previous app We Connect.

With this new Volkswagen app I am no longer able to use both my VW vehicles as I was when using the previous app, We Connect.
With this new app I am constantly asked to either add my vehicles from scratch or sometimes to ‘just’ finalise the setting up of the vehicles. This is rather annoying since it’s happening every single time I open the app.
In the rare occasions that I manage to have at least one vehicle fully set up and working in the app, the same remote controls that were available in the We Connect app are no longer there such as the Windows heating.
This Volkswagen app should replace an older app, We Connect, however it is far worse and a huge step back.

Gets worse with each update

I’ve had an ID5 for a year now and the app has gone from very basic to barely functioning. Information is often hours out of date (waking up to see the app say your car is on 27% when you need it full is beyond annoying) and The last update means I am logged out every time I close the app. My first login attempt always fails with some obscure error, then the second lets me in. I’m then greeted by grey flashing boxes that look likes it’s loading, but it never does. Another force quit of the app and then I get some basic info. Usually saying “updated 12 hours ago”.
TRONITY have a more useful app if you want more information on trips, mileage, and status of the car.
The only thing I now use this for is to preheat. But even then that is beyond basic and any slight change in the temperature causes the car to say “new settings are available” and it wipes out custom settings in the car, such as light settings and cruise control settings.
I know VW will reply to this to say they’re sorry I’m not enjoying their app and their engineers are working hard to improve this. But it’s evident they’re not and the app is and afterthought with little investment. It’s sad as they could do so much to make this useful. Im not going to jump through hoops and email your team about my problems. How about YOU do some work for the customers for once and collate all the feedback here and address the issues your customers face

Rubbish, just like VW’s car software…

What to say…after two years living with an Arteon plagued with awful software and having had more patches and updates than my phone, the new app is just as bad… Updated yesterday and since then I’m greeted with a page with nothing but just some graphically swishing boxes where all the options should be. Would give zero stars, as I would for the car if I could. If you’re thinking of buying a new VW, my advice would be don’t, unless you want to live with poor app/software reliability, dangerous assist systems and dangerous capacitive touch controls! Come on VW, listen to your customers and fix these serious software and hardware issues the majority of us are having to live with.

Awful

Suggests it’s the successor to WeConnect and ‘upgrade now’. So I did. Towards the end of the process it asks if you are the prime or guest user. We’re married, it’s OUR car. So neither, or both, which is not an option. Despite promising to import setup data from WeConnect, it doesn’t. And then says you can only use it if you delete all your data from the vehicle and start over. This feels more like a cynical attempt to mine user data than offer a genuinely useful App to owners who’ve paid thousands to VW for their car. Dire user experience. Oh, and the Developer link goes to VW in Germany with no obvious English language option. Thanks for that.

API access

This App is needed to use Intelligent Octopus to get the 7.5p KwH rate. It is also needed for plug and charge on IONITY chargers with Elli or with Electroverse. It is not economic to own an EV without low tariff home charging. It is not practical to charge an EV out and about without plug and charge rather than battle with the fragmentation and variation in billing and charging.
Therefore this App is simply not an option. You must have this Digital Twin to have a viable EV. Even if it constantly confuses KM and miles to report range incorrectly at only 60% of the real range. Getting such a fundamental thing wrong is very worrying for such a fundamental thing.
Really EV driving is not ready yet for the mainstream. This is still in early adopter hell.

Pointless App if you share a car 🙁

We have the ID3 we waited nearly two years for it. Now it’s here the biggest disappointment is the app. As a couple who share a car to only have one primary user is ludicrous. I’m sure there are others in the same position. This means my hubby who is the primary user sees everything on the app and me as the guest I see nothing. The best bit is if I have driven the car on my profile neither of us get to see anything in the app as the car is on the last profile that drove it which was me. The app needs to allow two main drivers and should allow both users to see the same info on their log in regardless who’s profile. Massively disappointed to wait so long for a car and be let down by lack of development on the app 😪

Disappointing

I am on my second ID3 this with 3.1 software. When will the app get updates like being able to see miles available. It used to work on software 2.4 now often it is wrong until I synchronise with the car. A big retrograde step. Come on VW I waited over a year to get the upgrade to 3.0 but changed my car for other reasons. This after lots of promises, a great car and latest version much better but not the app.

It’s meh

After having my golf gte and using this app I was hoping it’s was going to be has good with my new id3. Sadly the information it gives you is very limited, there’s no trip info and although the charging information with the kWh and speed are very good it just lacks and other information of any value. I certainly wouldn’t pay for it like I did with my golf. Also why no lock feature even my old Mercedes used to be able to lock the car from the app!
Come on vw you need to step up the game if your wanting people to pay for your subscription after the 3 year term. The car has crazy tech on board yet your app is lacking in so many ways.

This App isn’t up to the job.

I find that app extremely frustrating due to frequent glitches. I don’t appear to be the only customer who is suffering issues.
Today I can’t see the range or battery level and I’m unable to access the charging set up. I’ve experienced a number of issues over the past 2 months since collecting my Buzz and today is the final straw. Volkswagen need to understand that the connectivity experience they are delivering to their customers is simply not good enough. The competition are miles ahead and deliver a more reliable experience. Although I love my car it is unlikely that I’d consider buying another Volkswagen.

Not as good as I would’ve thought

I’ve had my id buzz since December 2022 and although the app information is quite good, it doesn’t sync very often, and you don’t seem to be able to force it to sync, so for example I’m in my bed looking to see what state of charge I’m at so I can set off for the day and is says 44% last sync 6hours 4 minutes ago, I think that is not good enough, also I own several VW vehicles and have to use a separate we connect app for some of them , is it so difficult to combine the information from one app to the other, or even jump from one app to the other when selecting the vehicle. I have tried to start the air conditioning to see if this will force a sync but even this is a bit hit or miss.
I have also tried to select app support but unfortunately I do not speak German so it doesn’t work for me

Where are the features??

The app is well behind where it ought to be. It has very few features and some of the few it does have are things like storing the name and address of the servicing garage. The latest version of the app no longer seems to want to save any settings changes.
It can still only be used by the vehicle owner and not their household which drives my wife to distraction that she cannot monitor the charge level or turn the AC on.
The UX is poor and VW are clearly not software people and this app proves it.
The shear numbers of responses from VW saying to contact support should tell you all you need to know.

Lots of missing features

There are lots of features missing from the app that I would like to see added in future updates. Having read other reviews and looked at competitor apps, these are the features missing:
Unlock / lock doors
Unlock / lock boot
Open boot
Adjust windows
Turn on / off lights
Set heated steering wheel
Set heated seats
Correct range displayed in miles (sometimes shows incorrect calculation)
Equal user access (primary) - so still able to use app when second driver is using car and it is stationary or moving
Dark mode for the app
Tyre pressure
Defrost windscreen
Defrost wing mirrors
Turn windscreen wipers on / off
Fold wing mirrors
Horn
Send a trip to sat nav
Cabin actual temperature
Turn on/ off Interior monitoring / alarm / Sentry mode e.g. for dogs
Lock Screen widget showing car charge status to sit under the time
Driving stats - distance driven, fuel economy, calendar, history
Apple Watch as key
Charge port status open/closed
Cameras live view
Summon mode - car comes to you
Valet mode - turn on / off features
Schedule car software updates

Useful but limited!

I’ve had my ID3 for 9 months and found the app useful to set start and end times for charging and also pre-heating the car during the cold spell this winter which is great.
I’m disappointed that over the last 9 months very few improvements have been made to the app to make it more useful. There’s an option to add more widgets to the Home Screen but there are no more widgets to add! You are limited to current charge level and range and that’s it! I can see that there are other functions coming if / when you are able to update to software version 3.0 on your ID3 but this also has been frustratingly slow. The VW website it’s available now to cars with version 2.4 but that’s simply incorrect, you cannot upgrade yet!
VW and app developers please accelerate your software development and functionality or risk losing customers.

VW doesn’t seem to care

The app has hardly any features compared to competitors and what’s worse is that it is so temperamental to get to work initially on the iD3. Can’t unlock doors, manage heated seats or the steering wheel. Seems like VW just thrown an app out there to advertise the fact that they have one. No doubt the developer team will reply with saying “we’re working on improvements” and something along the lines of “we care about our customers” but we all know that’s scripted corporate jargon, VW don’t care about any of their customers as long as vehicle sales are up but sooner or later this lack of customer support will catch up to them. Shame on VW, honestly I would never purchase a vehicle from VW again after this shocker. This app says it all really.

A bit pointless

I downloaded this app as apparently future over the air software updates for the car require it. Other than that don’t expect the app to be any use unless you sign up to a mobile data agreement for the car itself. No pre-warming the car, no seeing what range you’ve got left, no scheduled charge. All of those options seemingly require a data contract. To me controlling some aspects of the car with an app is just a gimmick and I don’t see it as a pre-requisite. I bought the car for the car not how I can remotely control the AC. Having said that, I expect a lot of people really love this feature and would expect it to be included at no extra cost. I know it is for the Nissan Leaf. My gripe is I shouldn’t have to get this app to get future over the air software updates. The car has WiFi connectivity it would make more sense for me to be able to connect the car to my home wifi and download updates from VW that way.

Should have more

I have just got an ID4 coming from a Hybrid Mercedes and in comparison the Merc app has so many features that this app does not have. I have seen that the VW Connect app has some of these and surprised they have not followed to the ID version.
The fact there is only two widgets makes the app useful for those but also pretty poor considering this is the future of cars and majority of people with an EV will want an app full of functions to control car.
If the dev team are working on the porting of features from the non ID version then I hope they drop soon as certainly not impressed with current version.
