[1] Our smart tech aims to charge your car when the grid has more renewable energy in it, within the time you’ve set. Meaning it’s less likely your EV will be charged by energy from fossil fuels. The 4p a mile claim is based on an EV customer driving the UK average of 7,000 miles at an average of 4 miles per kWh. The Charge Anytime pay-as-you-go add-on rate on 4/11/2025 is 14p per kWh. Actual sum per mile is 3.5p. Individual costs will vary based on your vehicle efficiency, driving style and weather conditions.

App now working

My previous one star review slated the app for not registering my car for days. Suddenly it started working without any explanation, and has been doing so faultlessly for a couple of weeks. Only time will tell whether this continues to be the case. My suspicion is that it has something to do with my smart meter, which was replaced after not working for about three years (thanks for the quick response OVO). It was never explained to me that I may need a smart meter for the app to work. Ho hum. Only three stars for now because of all the hassle.

Terrible

Old app worked well. New app is much worse on every level. Doesn’t communicate with the car well, intermittently has connection issues, fails to charge when set to be ready by the morning. Very unhappy

Reduced service

My car never now gets near the requested charge when leaving it overnight. That despite the charge anytime tariff shooting up many hundred percent. So less charge happening and increased prices. Also slightly poor that I had to switch from their other charge app and go through the pain of setting everything back up again. A decent app would update itself and keep settings not force a brand new app download and the user to set back up

Won’t connect to vehicle

I use the app to set smart charging at night to benefit from lower unit prices. It was a pain transferring from the old Charge Anytime app as it wouldn’t connect to my car. Luckily I used a workaround by setting everything up again in the Charge Anytime app so that it worked in OVO Charge. I then deleted Charge Anytime. Stupid me! Yesterday OVO Charge suddenly stopped linking to my car and asked me to set everything up again, with no luck, just a continuous “connecting to your car” message. Back to square one - no smart charge and no Charge Anytime app to sort it out. Not happy.

Much better alternatives

This app doesn’t provide whole info. Eg you can drive 30mins for a fast charger that shows as publicly accessible on the app but wholly within private land. Just causes huge headache and financial loss for individuals. Use a real app like any other one on the App Store. Much better alternative.

Go elsewhere

I installed a OVO recognised charge in mid September 2025, unfortunately it would not recognise me details and I have been waiting on OVO ever since. Complaint going to Offwatt when OVO conclude their investigation but so far they keep saying another 48 hours to reply…….meanwhile they are charging full rate and want to put my direct debit up by 9.8% per month.

Cheers OVO, a month after locking me in with a contract you change from anytime to this. It has been two months and I have a useless app that does not even connect to my car. No explanation, no help. Paying 28p/kwh. Not even worth charging at this point. Should be ashamed of terrible app.

Cannot use the app because when you go to add your car/s the app will recognise them, however you cannot get past this as it has greyed them out therefore will not let you add the car to the app leaving us paying the full standard rate to charge.

Inferior to Charge Anytime

Will not allow me to choose 95% limit (appropriate for my Lithium battery) only allows 90% or 100% limit.

I have carefully managed my battery for three years rarely charging beyond 80%. Despite setting this app to 80% limit and resetting it several times it charges to 100% every time. I will stop using it should this not be fixed rapidly. It could undo years of careful battery management!

It’s ok, but…

You need to allow the ability to push notification to the car to tell this app that you’ve put the car on charge. Or, have a set once per hour time where it checks. Currently, this check is random, so the car could be charging for a few hours before the app knows.
Other than that it works fine and the interface is basic but clear.

Too slow ! New app does not recognise old login !!!!!

The app is way too slow to recognise that the car is charging. Often it takes up to 2 hrs so in that time you are charging at full rate with no way of telling the app to connect.
Also the app forces you to update but it does not tell you that ALL your old data will be lost upon update ! It does not recognise your old email or number ! Really poor. They obv have not tested this app. Would avoid as its not reliable. No real customer support.

Where is the iPadOS specific version

Having to move to OVO Charge App due to consolidation of the Charge Anytime function but the move comes with a downgrade. I use the Anytime app on iPad in full screen but this app only runs in a iPhone format. I will be continuing to use the Anytime app until this is addressed or I am forced to move. On iOS the app is fine. Will there be an iPad full screen version before people are forced to migrate permanently?

Absolutely useless and disgusting

The app has wasted more 30 minutes of my time, changed three chargers thinking there’s something wrong with the charger itself. Finally I had to use my debit card to pay a charger directly to be able to charge my car. I’m paying for a subscription that is completely waste of money and time plus causing frustration and headaches. Avoid if you can.

OK but improvements required

If you have multiple EVs, it doesn’t show you the total KWH and cost used for each per month. You have to manually add it all up for every vehicle which is an absolute pain for claiming back costs on company car schemes. Need this and the ability to download to .xls for all monthly charging.

Home Charging Update

It makes sense to update the app and bring the home charging functionality of the Charge Anywhere app in here as well. However the time it takes for the app to show the established connection is rather slow. I don’t want to have to wait up to 30 minutes for the app to show that a connection is established before I can go to bed. Hopefully the communication between the EV and app can be improved.
As we have two EVs it would also be useful if it remembers the last car that was looked at. Now it seems to go back to the first EV in the list regardless of whether it was viewed last or not.

EV charging finder app that doesn’t let you find chargers

Thought this is quite good, despite no obvious discount for an existing customer.
Got in the EV thought ooh lets find a charger using the app.
What on earth the car-play functionality isn’t standard. I’d already subscribed to the entry level sub. Turns out you have to pay a fair bit more to actually use the app as it was obviously designed for.
Subsequently found an alternative that’s cheaper and provides bigger discount on charging rates.
This app is fine, but if you’re looking to find a charger while driving - it’s illegal to use your phone so this isn’t the app for you.

Ongoing issue glitch

Disappointed with OVO App’s Ongoing Issues
I’ve been using the OVO app for a while now, but the experience has been nothing short of frustrating. Every time I try to charge using the app, it crashes. This issue has been ongoing for quite some time, yet there seems to be no resolution in sight. Despite this, I’m still being charged £8 a month for a subscription I can’t even use properly.
To make matters worse, I was told by another user that it’s best to order the physical card because this glitch has been a long-standing problem that hasn’t been addressed. Why are customers being charged for a service that doesn’t work?
OVO, please fix this glitch as soon as possible and stop charging us for an app we can’t use. Loyal customers deserve better than this.

Outrageously expensive public charging

I’m not sure what they’re doing here, but many chargers are £0.95 per KW, which includes standard type 2 slow charging. It’s so much more expensive than using any other method.
I think what’s happened is that when a charger has a peak and an off peak rate, they add them both together and charge you that.
For example a charger where you would normally pay 42p off peak and 53p peak would cost you 95p using this app (they add the 42p and the 53p together and charge you 95p)
Until they work that out I really recommend avoiding it.

Very very expensive app

I downloaded this app to activate a Ubricity/Shell Recharge EV point as the barcode had been removed. This app charges 95p per kWh when the price from shell varies (dependent on time) between 45p and 54p. I would avoid using this for anything but locating chargers.

Don’t pay for navigation! It doesn’t work

Overall, the app and the chargers are cheaper than using without and the £2 membership is worth having. I went for the £8 membership as I wanted the navigation element in one app with the charger control and payment. However after paying and trying the navigation doesn’t work. It just gets stuck on a loading screen with a grey map and doesn’t do anything! Very frustrating as I actually paid for this specifically!

Makes excessive onstreet charging palatable

In Brighton where onstreet charging is the norm and Blink have a state-sponsored monopoly(!) at £0.53p/kWh this app with the membership makes it a bit more palatable cost wise. Easy to use and with rewards it helps reduce charging costs for those without driveways. Main issue is the “Stop charging”
Button on the homescreen window which has already caused me to accidentally stop a charge. This needs changing to add at least an “are you sure?” Stage to avoid this

Where have the 30p Franklin chargers gone

I got this app as it was good to use with a local charging network that was 30p on the App (26p with Turbo) they’re no longer available and are now on LiFe for 65p, they’ve gone from almost the electricity price cap to over double and on par with liquid fuel cost per mile.
Until this happened I was considering getting a compatible charger and switching to OVO having met them at Everything Electric North for better solar export and the charge anytime but this feels like a Bait’n’Switch so I’ve dropped to the £2 tier and won’t be renewing once my credit is spent as I’ve lost trust with OVO as a result.
Charging a car should never cost more than running on liquid fuel, I’m using Fastned now as they offer 48p which is 12-16p/mile, on par with liquid fuels.

I must be doing something wrong!

All the other apps for charging stations I have downloaded and found them so straightforward that I didn’t have to think about them and managed to locate charging stations without an issue. This one, I have downloaded and seriously there are NO charging stations anywhere in England!!!! My map doesn’t provide any stations.
Anyway, needless to say, at the moment I haven’t looked at any guidance on it yet, I will when I have time, but not a great first impression 😞

A bit wonky

Charging stats have never worked for me despite paying, which is a shame because they work fine with all the free apps out there. Also the rewards are extremely slow to appear, I charged well over 5 working days ago and nothing has appeared. Also holding a lot of money wells a bit rough given they currently have over £120 of my money that they haven’t returned yet.
It’s a nice idea but it needs some work.

A waste of time

The app has failed to work (i.e initiate a charge) on the last 3 attempts at 2 different locations. Despite the small monthly cost, the price is too much when you are stood, in the cold, by your non charging car waiting for the Bonnet Customer Services team to respond, their final response is that they are only a 3rd party and to contact the operator via the helpline!

Lack of chargers and expensive

Downloaded out of curiosity to compare to zap map. Stating that I’m not using that to charge either, but only to look up for chargers, Bonnet looks smoother and more well coded, but it lacks big distributors, couldn’t find any PodPoints or BPPulse in it, which are the most expanded one, weird. On top of this they’re offering a subscription to get a discount on charging, but guess what, it’s still more expensive then charging directly from the supplier app. To make an example, connected kerb charger with ID 4868 it’s priced 0.35p atm from their app. Bonnet app gives for the same charger a price of 0.53p, and so with 10% it’s still 0.48p, what would be the point…? Zapmap come back to dad.

Totally unreliable

I saw Bonnet advertised fairly heavily on social media and decided to give it a go as I’m about to become an EV driver.
I tried to sign up using my Apple ID, and straight away got an error messsge. Not only a bad experience, this error message shared technical details of the systems behind Bonnet included the type of database it uses, some table names, and a unique ID — this is appalling from a security perspective.
Once logged in I wasn’t able to find my nearest charger because it isn’t part of the Bonnet network. My nearest charger that is part of the Bonnet network was over 10 miles away, so at first glance it just looked like no chargers were being shown at all and the app seemed useless. When I eventually found the toggle to show non-Bonnet chargers my nearest one appeared, and when I clicked to view its details I got another developer-friendly error message.
Finally, to see if the problem was specific to one charger, I tried to find another that I know of locally but according to Bonnet it doesn’t exist.
The app is totally useless in its current form, and arguably falls foul of some security bad practices.

Incredible app, best EV charging app around

I only use Bonnet now! They offer a subscription that offers you the cheapest prices and amazing value for money with the subscription. The one time I was stuck, I messaged customer service and they immediately helped me with the issue and were so kind and friendly. Love Bonnet!

Access to Genie Point… and that’s about it…

Only really have access to Genie Point charging network which, from experience, is poor at best. I downloaded the app and paid for the monthly subscription to find no saving of money at all due to only having access to very very few networks.
This needs to be setup on most of, if not all of the largest charging networks before you can claim to get savings or charge people a monthly subscription.
Very poor, would not recommend.
ZapMap is much better and it’s still awful!

Really Awesome. Sad that they stopped refills

If they would have continued with refills program, they would have been no.1 in UK. Not sure how people are gonna take subscription. 15% of a £30 is only £4. But refill program was amazing

Disappointing change of direction

The change to the fundamentals of the app has been extremely disappointing. The app went from a great thing with real value to almost no value due to rocketing prices and then no value basically paying a monthly subscription for a tiny discount on crazy pricing. The public charging network is not viable at these prices and bonnet no longer brings any value to me.

Boon for EV public charging!

In todays times thank god for the steady cost of charging from Bonnet! The refill structure is great and they keep integrating more providers. I completely rely on public chargers so I was paying through my nose before Bonnet

Started good. Now I’m deleting it

My first experiences with Bonnet were great. But the past few times I’ve tried to use it the charger just won’t activate. They say it works with the new Source London chargers but it does not.
Also if you cancel your Refill, they take off you any of the free ‘credits’ you built up, even before you used refills. Ridic

Basis of a great service

I’ve only been with Bonnet since June and went into the top 200kwh subscription in July. If you don’t use it all, the surplus rolls over to the next month. I’ve gone over 200 this month as I’ve done more miles but that’s not a problem as the payment per kWh remains at the deal level. True the price has increased but everything has and it has only reflected the cost to them.
Recently they introduced the Premium Beta which is free until it’s finalised. No fee has been released yet but you can leave premium if it doesn’t suit you.
I’m told by their very helpful ‘live’ support team that there will be a fully integrated CarPlay version of the app soon and if this lives up to expectations I’ll add the fifth star and subscribe to premium.* assuming the price is right.
Overall though, I’m very happy with it so far.

Don’t Use!

After taking their subscription service I tried to use a FastNed charger twice which didn’t work. I was charging at 9pm last night so looked for support and their wasn’t any. I contacted them today to find out the support team only works between 8am to 8pm and they were having issues with FastNed. This should be communicated to your users to save them a trip wasting time… Poor service!

Great app but one request

I think this is a great app and works really well. I only have one request that when charging it also shows how many KWH you have actually put in per charge as you can’t see it anywhere. If it had that it would be 5star

Use ability getting better

Like all energy suppliers prices have increased sad but fact of life. The user experience with recent updates have improved. Like all the EV chargers the main problem is lack of locations that have multiple pumps and parking bays that are so narrow getting the cable to reach can limit use. These are all life of the EV owner but Bonnet are trying 👍

Left a bad taste in my mouth

Enticed people to register with discount codes offering free charges then retrospectively, suddenly and without warning or communication applied expiry dates to the free charge discount already in customer accounts giving people only <48 hours to use it (many won’t be able to).

Oh well!

The principle is good but they started off cheap to grab our attention with low prices and freebies and now they’ve ramped up the prices and limited you to a certain country. Such a shame. Won’t be using after my refill has finished

Not impressed using this App

First time using this App on a GeniePoint (in the rain) and the App is sluggish and slow in updating the status of the charger. It took a ges for the charger to show instructions / to start. When finally charging had trouble to stop the charge via the App. After going through many menus it’s under Account / Settings / My Charging! Not good and should be on the same screen as the charger. Then when trying to stop the charge very slow response from the App when it’s safe to unplug. So all in all slow communication with the backed hence next time using my RFID Card

Don’t trust!!

You can’t remove your payment card or delete your account. I’ve emailed and got no response
Try clicking on a link to terms and conditions or privacy and you get a ‘whitty’ message saying which is worse a broken link or a broken charger? Erm, when you want to review terms and conditions and how to contact over privacy, actually a broken link is more important.
Basic failings, lots of incentives to get you to sign up, you then can’t leave and they’ve all but doubled their prices.

Excellent Customer Service

I had a problem with my first charge today and contacted Customer Service who replied immediately and resolved my issue.
Together with affordable and transparent charging, I am persuaded and I will subscribe to Bonnet. I look forward to them signing up more providers and becoming the one-stop shop for EV drivers.

Mixed feelings

Was v excited about the addition of GeniePoint to the Bonnet network having been using the app for a while. Unfortunately each time I’ve attempted to charge on a GP charger via Bonnet, it has not worked. Interestingly both times I was able to connect immediately via the GeniePoint app.

Great app for EV charging

The future… one app to charge your EV. No RFID cards. A flat rate cost. A subscription model (a bit like a Giffgaff Goody Bag). Rewards for completing activities and getting involved in the community. I’m a big fan! Looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Great App

This is an excellent app, I have been using it for nearly a month now and never had an issue charging my car. Fancy a free £15? use my referral R9BJD. It’s fast, from picking up the charge cable to the charge commencing is under a minute. I would recommend to all.

Really great EV charging app

By far the best charging app available, easy to use, easy to understand and the real time availability information is really helpful. Only lacking more charging networks available in-app. This is not the fault of the app however so the 5 star rating stands!

A good start

The basis of the bonnet app is very good but as it’s early days it’s not really usable so far as there are hardly any chargers connected in my local area. I will of course keep the app and check back periodically to hopefully see the network grow.
Apart from the lack of linked chargers I have to say I am very impressed with the interface as everything is set out very well.

This is it!

It’s early days for Bonnet but they’re going to be really successful. This is my prediction as up in the North of England they don’t yet have too many local chargers connected but this will change in time, I’m sure. I’ve made several suggestions via the App for connections to be made. The refill tariffs are a breath of fresh air. Simple is key and that’s what Bonnet have implemented. This has completely made my day and I’ll probably not be able to use the app straight away due to lack of close by chargers but as said, give it time. Awesome work. 👍🏼

Simplifying public charging.

Great to see a service tackling the unification of public charging networks. The app works well to provide sensible pricing for public charging across some of the most common providers in the UK.
