App Glitch Charges Full Price – No Weekend Support

I’ve had a frustrating experience with the Pret A Manger app. Over the weekend, the app malfunctioned and charged me full price for my coffee, even though I have an active subscription. To make matters worse, customer service is unavailable on weekends, so I had no way to resolve the issue or request a refund at the time.
It’s disappointing that a large brand like Pret doesn’t offer weekend support, especially when issues like this can directly affect customers’ payments. I hope Pret improves its app reliability and extends its customer support to cover weekends. This would make the subscription feel much more worthwhile and dependable.

This app is not designed with customer experience in mind

I seem unable to add a payment method in the app. Ad such, I have to scan the app to accumulate stars for possible perks and then separately scan my debit or credit card to make payment. I also can’t add the QR code to Apple Wallet.
Cafe Nero and Costa apps are far more user friendly.

Doesn’t recognise my phone number

I tried several times to sign in to my account and each time the app tells me that my phone number on my sim doesn’t match the one I’ve saved. I’ve tried the full prefix and leaving out the 0 for the prefix +44, no success.

IF IT IS A FRANCHISE, CAN’T USE THE APP :(

It's frustrating that you subscribe to Pret and want to take full advantage of the benefits, but unfortunately, if a location is a franchise, they don’t accept the app. Most, if not all, Pret locations at Motorway Service Stations are franchises. :(

Why does Pret log you out every now and then?

You get into the queue, get your phone out AND you have to log in again. This is really annoying.
The act of having to log in again cannot be a security feature, as if you enter your email address, they probably send you another password, well that’s what it says will happen. Personally, I don’t know as I went to Costa instead.

Terrible app

Terrible app. Stars not adding up at all - countless amounts of emails sent to customer service, they saying for weeks now they know about problems but nothing is fixed. And as others saying- app constantly logging me out - usually when in the till, ordering coffee and need to go through lengthy logging process often not remembering password as strange password requirements so retrieving password etc. Embarrassing. Sort it out this or will be cancelling my subscription.

Badly implemented app

When I’m buying a coffee I don’t want to be messing about with my phone. Most store card apps use apple wallet so when I want to scan the card I can bring it up from my lock screen in a couple of seconds, but for this one I have to log into my phone, go and open the app, and navigate to the QR code in the app. If the app has lost its state from an update or something I have to suffer the consequences of the stupid security policy: I need to log into my account by typing out my email address and trying to remember my password (weird password requirements mean I had to make up a special password just for prêt-à-manger) and repeatedly tap the squares with the buses or bikes in them like I’m trying to hack the Gibson or something. I’m apparently expected to do this while standing in the queue trying to get a coffee. Bad

Functional but flawed like lots of loyalty apps

It does what it’s supposed to, which is present a QR code to allow me to build up points. As I don’t subscribe, that’s all I use it for.
I don’t open the app unless I’m standing at the till waiting to pay. That’s where it gets annoying.
Lots of these loyalty apps seem to delete your login details when you update them, requiring you to re-log in, which is frustrating when standing at the till trying to pay.

Stars don’t add up

All was going well until one of my perks disappeared and then no more stars would be added, I was stuck on 3 stars.
Customer service added the perk back on plus added 5 more stars even though I had spent money on more than 5 occasions. Another weeks worth of coffees and Now I am still stuck on 8 stars.
Now fed up with sending emails so have cancelled my subscription.
Update.
Received a reply to my review on 20/3/25 nearly three months after I posted review.
Poor customer support.

One of the worst apps around

I used this app with the odd glitch but eventually got it to collect stars/redeem rewards satisfactorily. In the last few months it has lagged, continually logs me out after EVERY use, then won’t let me log in to my account. So it’s largely useless. Pret - please sort this out pronto.

Signs me out / Clunky login

Awful when you’re in a long queue to find out you’ve been signed out. Login back is tedious; facial recognition does not work as you still need to prove you’re not a robot.

Keeps logging out

Every now and then the app will log you out and ask you to update your mobile number as it is not connected to your Pret account. But it is! And it’s always at the times you want to buy a coffee so you have to pay full price! Thinking about cancelling my subscription because of this inconvenience! Sort it out Pret!

Possibly the worst app ever

It took me 30mins to set this app up..a 12 letter password with no words, 10 lots of identifying buses/crossings etc to prove my existence, and finally the clincher - the phone number needs to match with your phone you have the app on (why?!). The QR code can’t be added to a wallet and it’s not obvious where the QR code even is (why else would anyone want the app? Oh - so Pret can sell you a monthly subscription!). I’m out.

Utter rubbish

Would like to subscribe to the Pret coffee subscription, which has to be done via the app.
Every time a password is set, it doesn’t allow you too, even though the conditions of password set up have been met.

Took all my stars away

Have just signed into the app for the first time in months and guess what? All my stars have vanished.
This is especially annoying as purchases at Pret shops are only accurately recorded about one in every four visits - so getting six or seven stars really takes some effort!
But I am done with Pret now. Overpriced and can’t even run a loyalty scheme without ripping off their customers.

Cribbs Causeway

We have been using this Pret in the mall at Cribbs Causeway. We have never had any problems. The app has always worked fine with them. And other places. The staff are all very friendly and polite. They even remember what our order is every time we go in there 🙂. In my opinion it’s the best branch. As the subscription is changing we won’t be going in half as much. Which is a shame because it is somewhere to go and sit and have some time out of the house every day. Especially in the colder months. I will however still buy my iced mochas from there as they are the best I have had. And this branch makes them the best. I hate to say it but we will take my mocha to another cheaper coffee shop also in the mall and get the other coffees there and sit. It’s a shame. But understandable that the five free drinks have been cut.

Unreliable & Doesn’t Work

App is extremely unreliable. Half the time it shows your code, then other times it prompts you to log in 5+ times and does nothing because every Pret store in my area lacks mobile data or working WiFi. End up having to pay for a disgusting drink, uncomfortable store, and poor service that is not at all worth the money.

Can’t use app if you have multiple phone lines

I have 2 UK phone lines on my iPhone and can’t use the app because it doesn’t recognise either phone number. Never come across an app that blocks access if you have more than one phone line. Not great.

Forever removing the app

Unusable!

Never been able to use it as every time I try to sign in it tells me my mobile number doesn’t match the sim on my phone. Re-entered my number & deleted and re-downloaded the app several times to no avail. Never have problems with other coffee shop apps.

Really shonky app. Can’t even manage to log in.. seems to be something with the reCaptcha - but once I DID log in, it told me the phone number on my SIM is different to the one on my account. It absolutely isn’t.

Worst app on my phone!

Absolute nightmare app. I go round and round in circles losing my mind trying to even log in. Enter details, prove I’m not a robot over and over to then be taken straight back to signing in. If by fluke I ever do manage to get in it then constantly says my phone number doesn't match my sim card. Total waste of life. Now have cold coffee.
Nowhere near the Starbucks or nero app. Don’t waste precious life seconds installing.

Useless app

The app will not let me sign into my account and a message saying that my mobile number does not match keeps showing up. I have checked my number, it is correct and matches my sim. I even tried creating a new account but the issue still persists. I was ready to subscribe to the pret club, but after seeing the performance of the app I don’t see the point of paying for something I can’t even use.

Inconsistent

I regularly visit Pret and get a weak wet latte. Usually there is no problem as the baristas just give me a half shot. However my last 2 visits to Tunbridge wells have been bad. First time I took the coffee back asking for it to be weak. The manager said it depends on what weak meant but this is their definition! I found the manager abrupt and unhelpful so I asked for a refund and left the coffee. Today I got another strong latte despite asking for weak. The manager made the drink so my friend took it back to the other barista who was helpful and resolved the problem. So, please can you advise staff/manager weak means half shot and then maybe consistency will return .

No longer works on my iPad Mini

The Reward status wasn’t updating and I found I could not access account details - so I ended up uninstalling the app and trying to re-install. I am blocked because the SIM card in this iPad has a different number to that on my account (iPads don’t have telephony even when, like this, they have cellular data) so the SIM card on my account is my mobile phone - which is PAYG. So, in annoyance I switched to install the App on my mobile phone. But I got the same message - perhaps because the mobile phone has dual SIMs… though the one on the account is the primary one. Ok… seems it was because I was trying to use only WiFi data on the mobile phone (piggy-backing off the hotspot on the iPad). I have turned cellular off again on the phone as I don’t want it using up the credit. Guess this is not going to be very smooth from now on.

Rotten app …

After registering online and successful login via a webpage, the app won’t allow users to use the same details if they have retained their old phone number and transferred it to their new sim leaving you stuck in a doom loop.
Randomly logs you out when you need it most, usually when ordering coffee.
The subscription is useless when travelling on motorways, in the eventuality you find a pret at a service station keep going to the next one until you find a Costa coffee as the subscription isn’t valid at Pret service stations because the are franchises?!! Go figure.

No longer good value due to glitching app

The pret subscription is great value if you commute most days, however the app glitches significantly and is becoming a pain to continue using. Beginning more disparately but now happening monthly the app will sign me out and not allow me to sign back in for a number of days and often I need to get assistance from pret to get access to my account again. This means up to several days every month when I can’t access the subscription I have paid for, so with this glitching the subscription no longer becomes good value for money. I hope this can be resolved soon as the subscription service was good value.

This subscription attracts new clients to you. None of your competitors have this option.
I used to drink only Starbucks, but now Pret is number one when it comes to the taste of a soy hazelnut latte.
Thank you for having vegan options.
Last time I didn’t have a Pret nearby, so I went to Starbucks. I ordered a hazelnut latte and I couldn’t finish it. It tasted very artificial, almost like plastic. Did I not notice it before or have my taste buds changed?
Customer service 4/5: It depends on the location. Some Pret locations have lovely, smiling workers, while others seem to be very unhappy and don’t even respond to "good morning," but in general, it is good.
Cleanliness 3/5 This could be slightly improved. Sometimes tables are damaged and unstable, and not always completely clean.
But overall, I love it and I recommend it to everyone!

Recent changes broke the subscription

Used to use the subscription with Apple wallet fine. On 18th March 2024 they changed it to be in app and not in Apple wallet. When I open the app it says an error that my mobile sim doesn’t match my account. It does, I have 2 esims and the app isn’t able to recognise this. Can’t use my paid subscription anymore… would like a refund of my £30…

I have been going to this branch of Prets since well before COVID…They are the friendliest of staff always remembering my particular preference so that I dont even have to say which coffee I want. They always have time for each of their regular customers ensuring that all is well with them and making them feel comfortable on a daily basis. Nothing is too much trouble for them in their dealings with all of their customers. The training of their staff appears to be excellent as everyone treats each other with respect and they are a fantastic team of workers. When I was ill a few years ago in the upstairs part of their branch they were superb in dealing with the incident by calling an ambulance and looking after me until it arrived. I cant praise them enough.

When I try to create an account I get the error “This mobile number does not match the SIM card mobile number on the device you’re using. We need to verify the numbers match to create your account. Please try again”. Guessing this is because I ported my number over to a new SIM, in which cases thousands of people will have the same problem. Happy to remove this review if you can provide a solution.

Great place awful app

I write this review for o get the attention of some useful member of staff. I want to subscribe for monthly coffee. I can login on the website but every time I try to login on the app it fails and after “too many tries” my account gets locked and I have to unlock it using the exact same password (I literally copy and paste). I can’t subscribe through your website only through the app. Please fix hopefully soon

Pret is awesome the app is rubbish

All this app does is to tell you you need to update your phone number every time you login, take you to the browser where all details are ok. It doesn’t even remember your credentials so I need to type it in every time. Where is face recognition login? Why I need to update my phone every time I login? Waste of space on my phone at the moment. Just using the web.

Best customer service ever

I have been going into Basingstoke Prêt several times a week with my husband for the last three years and the type of welcoming service we receive is exceptional. The manager welcomes us every visit and asks how we are, he remembers what our coffee order is a ensures we have everything we need. He has told me that the store is our store and he wants us to feel welcome and somewhere we go where we know we are going to get good service and a comfortable place to be. Pret is always n’y first choice of coffee shops and the food and drink is amazing

Recent update means app won’t login on my phone

After an update that happened over the past few weeks (been abroad for a 2 weeks so could have happened anytime then) when trying to login, it now says that number on sim doesn’t match number in my app details when they are the same.
My phone uses an eSIM and has a pin on it. Could it be that? I won’t remove my pin on SIM for security reasons

Hell on Earth

The registration process takes my email address, my phone number and a new password and creates an “account”. (Well after I have played the guessing game to try to figure out which “special characters” it needs and which it doesn’t. No clues are given but it doesn’t like passwords generated by 1Password.) Then I verify the email. Then I am led through a few rounds of clicking on buses, stairs and so on to verify I am not a robot… only to enter my password and discover that I am back at the login page (I.e. it silently fails without telling me anything.) I have tried resetting the password but still can’t log in and I can’t try to register again because my mobile number is still attached to an account I can’t delete. An absolutely exquisite piece of hell…

Daylight robbery every time !

Once upon a time this was the place for great sandwiches and coffee, now it’s simply the best place to have your pocket picked for mass produced and massively overpriced everything . . Each time I go in I end up leaving without buying anything simply out of principle at the hidden shrinkflation of their sandwiches in non transparent packaging so you don’t see how pathetically small it all is until you’re down the road and excited to eat it by which time it’s too far to go back !
Last time I took my kids on holiday it cost me over £60 for 4 sandwiches, two coffees and 2 waters, what ?!?!
But then what do you expect when they’re owned by a hedge fund.
Seriously, save your money, this is no longer the pret that was made famous by great food at affordable prices and businesses like this will only read the room when customers vote with their wallets and go somewhere else.

Sub is now poor value for me

£20 was a good deal, £25 was just about ok, £30 is now not worth it so have cancelled. A shame because it also means I don’t go into pret at all so they’ve lost the other things I buy in there. It would be good to have a sub which gave you less drinks, say on 3 days a week, because many of us don’t commute every day. Pret are assuming everyone can get to a pret all the time. Also, there are some prets which don’t even take the sub which is a joke.

Confusing for staff, irritating for customer!…& mean spirited!

I only use this app for collecting the perks stars as I don’t quite buy enough coffee for the subscription to make financial sense! EVERY time I present the app & tell the staff I’m collecting perks I’m an told “I’m sorry your subscription is not active!” EVENTUALLY they realise it’s for collecting the perks points, sometimes several members of staff have had to try to ‘fix the problem’ & the other day a customer behind me said out aloud “Oh look, 3 members of staff for one customer, he must be important?”!!!
Why can’t you separate the sections of the app or get your software to distinguish the difference! I am fed up holding people up, it’s embarrassing! And by the way, when I’ve collected enough perks why am I offered mainly free items I don’t buy like pastries or crisps? A coffee or sandwich might be more useful…or money off…& why only a month to redeem the perk, I have lost several because of this stingy avenue of time…Am thinking I may not bother tbh…& take my custom elsewhere?…

Membership small print 1 drink per 30 minutes

Membership 5 free barista drinks offer has small print of 1 free drink per 30 minutes.
Also the Mobile number you use to create an account has to match the SIM card in the device you're using. Completely stupid arbitrary rule. Prevented my friend from signing up for an account so they lost out on a subscription there. Makes me question what kind of product managers they have working there to enforce nonsense rules like this that serve neither user nor the company.

Good App but misses important info

Have been a Prett subscriber for over a year now and the app works fine. What it doesn’t tell you and I think this is so important is your drink consumption history. I would like to see how much I do use the subscription and whilst I don’t usually use the order a drink every 30mins entitlement if I do want a follow on drink I have to set my watch to make sure I have waited 30 mins. The app won’t help you with that which I feel it should.

After the recent update the app now works much better and missing stars have been added. Hopefully, this annoying glitch is gone for good. Adding the ability to pay via the app will make it perfect.

Major technical issues: app failed at till

In the last few weeks I have experienced the same problem as others with the app not updating the information on Pret perks so I have no idea what perks I have earned. But now I am locked out of the app and cannot sign in to my Club Pret account, which means I may not access the benefits I’ve paid for. Not acceptable when paying a £30 a month subscription.

Pret Perks Disabled!

For the last month or so, despite updating the app in line with new updates from Pret, the app has refused to load my stars - I get an email telling me I’ve gained a pret perk, and then when i head to the app to actually use the perk, it tells me ‘We can’t load your perks right now, come back later’. It’s been doing this for a while now and if I don’t know what my perks are, i cannot use them, which is really frustrating. I’ve lost my last three perks to this.

Not working as expected

I am using iPhone 14 pro. The subscription management part and some parts of the main screen don’t work. Not possible to cancel or pause subscription through the app. I cancelled my subscription via website but now I receive emails that say pret couldn’t charge my payment. Why would it charge? There is some confusion about app and the payments. Please fix them.

Could be much better

Subscription is a great idea, but £25 per month? Not a chance. And if I buy 10 coffees, I get a perk, which currently is a free packet of crisps lol. Costa: buy 8 drinks and get any free drink. Wake up!
Update: I see it’s now £30 a month. So in this current financial hardship people are going through, Pret think it’s better to increase their already extortionate subscription price. Whoever signed this off needs a to grow a few more brain cells.

Warning - might not be able to use app randomly

I’ve tripled checked and the numbers are exactly the same. Customer Support can’t help either - so frustrating. I’ve seen many people with the same issue - needs a fix

Mobile number update required

After reinstalling the app, when trying to sign in to my existing account, it keeps telling me that my mobile number cannot be recognised and that I need to update it in my personal details. I am using the same device with the same mobile number as before the re-installation. And exactly the same mobile number is in the details section of my profile. What's the solution? I have reinstalled the app a few times since the first time problem occurred - to no help.

I hate the VERY VERY short perks timespan

I have lost several perks after I earned them because they are only kept on your account for what feels like 5 mins!!! I earned the rewards, please fix this. I want to save my perks for when I need them not just burn them and not enjoy the perk Fix this please. The rest of the app is a no brainier, no big wins just does the job of scanning. The promotions on the app are also usually rubbish.
Loyalty counts for nothing.
How about offering 50p baked goods to loyal customers in the last 40mins so things don’t get wasted

Account linked to card that is not mine

Idk what the heck has happened but when I linked my Apple Pay to the Pret account, it has linked an entirely different card number with completely different expiry. I can’t change it and I don’t know why it’s even done it, it’s no card belonging to me!

Good app that works well and nice to keep track of perks etc, but do you really need so many updates to keep it running smoothly? I’ve had about 5 updates in the space of 2 weeks which is frustrating to have to do

I would probably say that Pret coffee shop is a must for coffee lovers! The only suggestion I would have longer opening hours for some of their stores, My nearest store closes at 3pm, but amazing staff working under pressure.

Pret a than the rest

Recently became a subscriber to Pret A Manger after learning about it on the hot deals app. I have been very happy with the service and drinks choice they are now part of my everyday routine. Can’t fault anything they are my go to coffee shop now and in the future. Very well done to everyone at Pret who make it the success it’s become.

Wrong currency

Seems to be a problem, although I was originally logged into the USA which explains why my coffee subscription was offered to me in dollars I logged in and changed it to the UK. Uninstalled the app reinstalled the app logged back in and yes everything is still in dollars if I try and fix that in the air I go through a loop being asked to login multiple times but no change seems to occur I know the reviews on for support but I’m hoping somebody will be able to help me with this.

A company with a big heart…

The app is fantastic but that’s not what this review is about…I have for the past few months sadly found myself homeless. I for the first few weeks did not have any money and every time I went into a Pret and asked for a coffee I was never once turned away or treated like I had an infectious disease. I was always greeted with a smile and never judged. If I needed a wash or my phone charging, I was never turned away despite not buying anything. I was even given food without asking on a number of occasions. The staff have a big heart and are generally lovely people. You can contrast that massively with Prets biggest rivals sadly…This lovely attitude from the Pret employees comes from the top so a big thank you to Pano, Prets CEO who has instilled these ethos in the staff. Well done and thank you for making my homeless journey much, much more survivable…much love

Not clear how many stars you earn

A nice idea, but there is no transaction history in the app, so not clear how many stars you earn, eg. seems that whether you buy one or two sandwiches in a single transaction, you only earn one star, rather than splitting them into two transactions. Otherwise, nice to see Pret roll this out.
As for the response from Pret, it doesn’t answer my feedback at all. Disappointing.

Good app but needs development

The app is good and it’s certainly nice to earn rewards! It would be good if the app shows a transaction history so you can see when you have earned stars and when they have been applied. It would also be good to have the option to just earn stars or earn stars and pay via the app.

unprofessional staff and smoothie machine always out of order

Pret has nice coffee but rude and unmannered staff down here in Southampton. I had a subscription £20 a month which I thought was great so even tho Southampton store has rude and lazy staff their coffee takes 15min to make even when it’s not busy I still went in morning on my way to work , because of the deal. However, they bumped the price to £25…..why?? Your smoothie and frappe machine is always broken, I ask for cream on top of frappe always unavailable like how do run out of whip cream all the time in 1st thing in the morning ?? Expresso takes like 30 min to make. If you going to bump the price up then make sure you deliver what you promise to the customer and trained the staff in customer service. Your staff are getting paid aren’t they if so they should work like it to.

Click & collect NOT WORKING

When I 1st downloaded the app, the click and collect worked perfect.
Not too sure what update did it, but a few weeks ago the click and collect button completely vanished from the app. This makes it completely useless for me as it allowed me to see which Pret had what I wanted to buy.
I contacted their app support via email and telephone, let them both know the issue and they said they’ve noted it and will work on it. But it’s been 3wks and still the app is not working in this capacity.

Issue with Click & Collect

The app is nicely designed except that not all Pret stores are shown on the map. There is a Pret in South Kensington, for example, but it doesnt show up on the Click&Collect feature, so I have no way of ordering from there.
It would be great if you could fix this issue.

50/50 click and collect

When the app works, it’s great!
However 50% of the time, the click and collect doesn’t acknowledge my coffee subscription (even though you click the tab next to it and can see it’s active on the account). It’s very frustrating because it becomes a toss up between going to the shop and possibly waiting 10-15 mins before ordering (so i can scan my subscription QR) and receiving the order, or just not bothering at all because of the waiting times and it’s almost pointless to subscribe if I’m ending up going other places to be quicker/can take click and collect options.
Please PLEASE fix this issue.

Surprisingly good app

I never thought I needed a Pret app and although I really like the food I certainly never expected Pret to come up with something this good. It’s just a really simple app that does a couple of things really well and doesn’t get in my way with annoying extras and that’s what these kind of apps should do. Well done Pret for not over complicating it.

Easy ordering, click and collect

Was really easy to order from my local Pret and pick up my sandwich and smoothie on the coffee subscription. Much better than using delivery service and paying to have it delivered.
