Northgard is a strategy game based on Norse mythology in which you control a Clan of Vikings fighting for the control of a mysterious newfound continent.

After years of tireless explorations, brave Vikings have discovered a new land filled with mystery, danger and riches: NORTHGARD.

The boldest Northmen have set sail to explore and conquer these new shores, bring fame to their Clan and write history through conquest, trading, or devotion to the Gods.

That is, if they can survive the dire Wolves and Undead Warriors roaming the land, befriend or defeat the giants, and survive the harshest winters ever witnessed in the North.

Great game but frustrating bugs

For over a year now the achievements has been broken in Jormur not unlocking and appearing in French rather than English, and number of victories not tracking and being stuck at 75%. More recently the profile also seems to have reset losing all progress in spite of achievements remaining in its same (glitched) state. It’s a shame as the game is fun and would otherwise be 5 star.

I absolutely love this game and I really didn’t want to write this review. I play on iPad and sometimes the game freezes or you loose Wi-Fi for a second. That’s ok. If you close the app and re-open it, you should get an option to “reconnect to last game”. Problem is, sometimes you don’t get the option and can’t get back in so you loose the game, no matter the odds. I wrote to the devs several times already but they have done nothing to fix this. I refuse to play a game that doesn’t respect my time and efforts. So that’s it for me.

I really love this game. It’s a wonderful strategy game that lets you play without paywalls, adds and timers. Really good traditional game. If you like city builders and strategy games I’d say give it a go. It’s just a shame it crashes so much. There is an auto save that normally saves the day and after a few attempts will always reload, but it’s a shame it’s needed do much.

I want to start by saying thank you for this game. I’m sick of the current trend in games being made. This is a “proper” game and is worth every penny. But….there is a but….crashes a lot! Brand new iPad. Luckily auto save saved me a few time. I’ve also had issue where on completing story 3pr 4 it sent me all the way back to story mission 2 and even loading other saves I couldn’t get it to progress. Doesn’t sync between apple devices which is annoying

First off wanted to say I love this game. It’s strategies, battle/building mechanics combined with a manageable amount of day-to-day wood/food/coin. It is a very well balanced, well thought out and executed game.

However for me, it is a bit quick. It might be that I’m a bit slow, however it all moves and happens a bit too quickly for my liking. I like to make sure I have the right building in the right areas with the correct upgrades. It would be very helpful if the user could slow down the game play or even pause to get affairs in order.

Other than that, love the game and would definitely recommend to anyone who’s into strategy/battle games.

There’s so much micro management in the game it would be better to have mouse and keyboard support like most other games are developing now for iPad. Also, I have never uninstalled and reinstalled a game so much. It’s a love hate relationship with this one. Some clans are easy, others are suicidal. I thought the more military you have, the happier the wolf clan is. Doesn’t seem to be the case at all. Maybe it’s a bug? Great game otherwise, very addicting.

Really enjoyable game has a nice balance in the different economy factors which keeps you on your toes. Some fun characters as well with different special traits that can help for different play styles or missions.

Story mode had a compelling narrative as well just wish it had been longer! Can play through on 3 different difficulties and there are bonus objectives for each mission.

I would like to see a separate line for each bonus objective completed on each difficulty though if possible. Should be an easy enough thing to implement and would add an extra challenge. Currently if you complete on normal it checks off all bonus objectives so you not sure if you done them on hard or extreme.

I really enjoy this strategy game which has an emphasis on survival. 1. Sadly the battle mechanics are very basic and though there are different units they basically just all end up in a melee. 2. Worst though is the amount it crashes, mostly just when you go to make a new save though sometimes opening the menu will do it. 3.The campaign level “trade wars” is either fundamentally bugged on my copy or doesn’t explain how to win. I’ve done what people online say and no matter how much trade I do my score stays at 0. This means I can’t progress any further than level 4 on campaign and it has no way to skip it. Combined with the crashing I can’t be bothered to keep trying to work out what’s wrong with the “trade wars” level. It keeps crashing and I keep having to replay progress and It’s just not fun anymore. I haven’t tried the skirmish mode yet, due to having lost the will from the crashes. I’ll give it another go if there is an update which fixes the amount it crashes and if there is a way to continue the campaign past “trade wars”.

Really wish that I could give this game 5 stars, as it is beautifully put together and a great challenge. But sadly the constant crashes that others have mentioned make it unplayable. The autosaves aren’t frequent enough to get around this, and often you find you’ve lost half an hour or more of effort. One to put aside for now and hopefully it’ll be fixed at some point as would be a gem if it was sorted.

I’ve managed to make it to the end of the story mode. It’s taken perhaps 3 times as long as it should, because the game crashes incessantly, from anywhere between every 2 to 15 minutes of gameplay. There are auto saves (and manual), which sometimes catch it at the right time, but invariably you end up finding that buildings you constructed are no longer there, because you’ve lost 5-10 minutes of play. To the game’s credit, I’ve put up with this, because it’s a nice example of the genre, and I liked the development, characters and story, even though in one or two chapters, it’s not entirely clear what you’re supposed to do.

You can go back and do extra tasks after completion, and play stand-alone games, but I think the regularity of the crashing is a straw too heavy for this camel’s back to bother with that. If that’s resolved in an update, I’ll probably come back and play intermittently.

This game is a gem. It can be very challenging and requires you to ensure your always paying attention and always ready for anything to happen. No matter how many resources you have they could all be gone in a moments notice if your not paying attention. I've played many strategy games and hands down this game sits within the top 10 of strategy games I have played. Highly recommend and my hats off to the creators.
