Slow to open

UPDATE: The problem below has been resolved by recent updates.

Since the app was updated with a new look and feel it’s 50/50 whether it will show any content apart from my points total whenever I open the app. Some days it’s fine and others, like today, I get nothing on any of the tabs. I have tried disabling Safari content blockers such as Blockbear but it makes no difference.

Another app falling short….

Lack of user testing would again seem to be a characteristic of this app. Virgin need to do better. I’m trying to check my balance on my Café Nero rewards and tap the “check my balance” button. It tells me that “Oops - no Internet”. But, I do have Internet and it’s working! There are a number of other faults with this app including not being able to get to your reward vouchers in a couple of clicks and then not having enough information readily available for when they expire or whether they’ve been used. Basic stuff that Virgin isn’t getting right.

Wants access to your data without clarity

I have a virgin Atlantic account and wanted to link it to a new virgin red account. Because my Atlantic account has been dormant since pre covid I was told I had to show proof of ID, they wanted me to link my .gov account which I told them I did not want to do as I was not clear why they needed that or what they would do with the data once accessed. I was told to send copies of DL and passport instead and that would be sufficient, which I did to a secure link. Was then told again I needed to link to .gov and share details, even though I can open a bank account with a DL and passport and this is just a reward scheme! Become suspicious of the data they wanted to access without being clear why, or for what purpose. Checked them out on Reddit and trust pilot too, awful reviews and shoddy practices, points not being awarded to accounts, rewards not being honoured. You know what they say, if something looks too good to be try, it probably is! Avoid!

Hi please can you fix the app? New downloads constantly freeze in login pages and it is impossible to proceed with using. Tried deleting and redownloading few times. The website version also sends two factor authentication emails to login which seemingly take ages to send by which point they are invalid (timed out). Points = prizes! (Free stuff!)

I’ve been able to save up points and use it on a Virgin Voyage cruise! 🤩

I regularly bump up my points through booking hotel stays via Virgin Red & the Booking.com offer, and by buying all my train travel through Virgin Trains Ticketing. I’ve also been able to travel for free on the train by spending my points on train tickets through the above, which in the rising cost of living crisis is so appreciated.

Poorly integrated and almost impossible to check in a phone

I used the app during a holiday to New York. It provides basic information about flights, however there is no option to check in or click through for flights provided by Virgin Atlantic. You need to take the reference from the app and then use a browser to check in and book seats. The Virgin Atlantic website barely functions on a phone (iPhone 14 pro max) with safari or chrome. Trying to book seats and the screen gets covered by a pop up that’s seemingly impossible to close !

App very buggy. Went through whole set up process then kept getting stuck in s loop of verification codes while never actually getting into the app. Quit and tried to relaunch app - didn’t launch. Deleted and re-installed now it gets stuck in a loop asking about notification settings. Re-install again same thing. Cannot launch.

Great concept just doesn’t work

I have used this app for around 18 months. To he idea is great however a lot of the time the visits to external shopping does do not register.

Last month I spent £500 on eBay, which was advertised at 2 points per £1. Guess what no points! I have followed the link and instructions but it only seems to work maybe 1 in ever 4 times.

It would be great if it actually worked, however I do question if it’s worth the faf.

Support just tell me that they can’t guarantee the process will work.

Awful app, doesn’t remember your details so have to log in everytime. Then it won’t log in have to keep resetting my password. Now I can’t get access to my account as it doesn’t recognise my number. So frustrating. No other airline app have this much issue.

It takes a while to actually get the points on your account. I literally forgot about it until I see an ad for it and thought I’d check about 5-6 weeks after using it and see some points in my account, I’d give it 5 stars but there is no search function. Who doesn’t have a search function in this day and age? Unless I’m not seeing it somewhere? I see the categories but there is still some extensive lists in each one which I just can’t be bothered searching through.

This app doesn’t reward existing customers just a marketing gimmick to sign you up to new services, probably to get you to save points until they rebrand again. The competitions in the new app are much better than the old Vaults app. And, I’ve won twice now. Never did in the old one. The access to sold out concerts is awesome. The small treats are perfect. And availability of flights with KLM, Air France and Virgin Atlantic open up the world! Love it.

No points for Virgin loyalty

Firstly I lost any points I had in my Virgin Vaults app which just vanished without notice. In fact you have to register again completely. There is no way to get points for your existing Virgin services here at all. I have full Virgin Media package , I’m a Virgin Active member joint with my partner, I have a Virgin Pure water bar, a Virgin mobile contract (plus the family on family plan) and there is no way to link any of the accounts and get rewards for having them. You can’t search for shops on here so if you popped into Argos you’d have to stand there scrolling down to find it. Then you’d head off to a web browser (instead of the app which you’re already logged into) to make your order. It’s all rather an illogical mess that reflects no loyalty for Virgin customers.

I like that I can choose between the app or the website and that it’s simple to earn ‘Virgin Points’ while I’m already doing shopping online eg at eBay, Argos and Etsy I’ve already earned points!

Also fab I think is the earning points on train travel through the app!! Keen to see what is added next in terms of the rewards.

I downloaded the app on my iPhone. I already a member since I registered on Windows desktop. So I try to login to the phone app. Can’t even get as far as entering my email and password. “There could be a misconfiguration in the system or a service outage” it says, not showing the login boxes. Just redeemed twice and have had to enter my delivery address both times. Can't you add the last used address to an address book, and default to it? And still allow the user to add a new address if required (which is then also added to the address book)

Talk about a step backwards! I logged on daily for years on Virgin Vaults, and this app isn’t interactive at all. Thrown a couple of measly competitions on but nothing like the prizes you could win on Vaults. This is basically a sales pitch to get you to earn points by buying from partners. I’ve now also had to reregister 4 times as it forgets my details. The app is deleted now as it’s too much effort for literally no return. Bad move. Virgin

Virgin Red Sets A New Rewards Benchmark

I was very excited to receive my invite to join Virgin Red and see what it had to offer compared to other rewards offerings.

I was very pleased with the easy joining process and the ease then to link it to my Virgin Miles account which worked straight away.

Then to options with Virgin Red, Wow what a refreshing set and range of offers from the very small Greggs pasty to wine, flights, holidays and even concerts.

Hopefully we will be sent regular offers and additional choices added.

Overall I am very impressed with the web site, it’s ease of navigation and intuitive interface.

So this replaced the much more fun Virgin Vaults. The build on this is terrible. Everything is an outside link so you’re constantly bouncing back and forth between this and a web browser. The point system is terrible, without spending an absolute fortune you will never get anything. Even the free to enter bits only get you “a chance to win” some points.

This whole app and concept is a total waste of time. Obviously I’ve deleted it within 15 minutes of downloading it
