Update has ruined the game, it takes too long

Been playing this for a few months and we loved it, there were a few glitches so really pleased to see an update.

However the game is now much harder & takes a lot longer to play. The ring questions with multiple answers are ridiculous, hard & pointless, having to pick multiple answers from a random fact.

The final round is ok being 50/50 questions but to get 10 correct in the time is crazy & then if you don’t complete it (even by 1) you have to do 8 on your next go.

The game now takes twice as long & none of my family will play it anymore.

This game is great! Download it! It’s kid friendly and is perfect for families. There’s this thing where you pick your categories so it’s fun. Before you get this game buy the game set. If you don’t you can’t play. This is also advert free! So if you hate adverts be Outsmarted’s guest! You’ll love the game! It is hard to get on the actual game to play but once you get the hang of it you’ll be going 1billion mph! I say get it and if you write a review be nice please. Also tell your friends to get it.

Outsmarted deserves five stars.

Me and my mum play this a lot, and it’s our favourite game of millions stacked in the garage/hanging around the house. 100% recommend, they give categories for adults, teens and kids which can be trick questions, super easy or what look super easy but are actually super confusing! Kids ones are especially easy; I was on an at least 10 point roll as it was easy, but also hard. Challenging, but amazing. Easy, but hard. As long as you have this stacked in your garage like me and my mum, you’ll have no stress! Don’t forget to play it with your children as well (if they want to, of course) and have a nice day!

Great game but a few issues

It is a wonderful game but you buy the board game to play the game but the thing is you never play on the actual board because you can play it manually on your phone and my other moan is that if you have a game longer that 30 minutes it kicks you out a few minutes before the game ends so you don’t get to see the final results of your game. Great game but a few issues make a big problem.

Good when it’s working but don’t recommend,”

This game is really fun for me to play with my family and I really enjoy it when it’s working but, this game has kicked me out in the middle of playing it meaning I couldn’t play this any more. And a couple of times, I wasn’t even able to join a game, this is really entertaining and fun, but if you buy it be prepared to have to wait sonetimes before you play. This is quite disappointing so I don’t recommend, but this could be a five if it worked, but in general it’s good, till it doesn’t work. 😔I really hope that this can be fixed, Xx

Outstanding

It is such a good app. It has the thing where you can choose what sort of questions you want to play when you’ve got the settings. It’s so good when you know what you’re doing but if you don’t quite know what you’re doing it’s not really very easy but there’s video. most recent time we played sadly it kept stopping the players around so on one iPad with Emmy and the other with Rachel and it just kept swapping around and we just kept changing who is who.

My review on outsmarted

This game is super fun! Me and my family play it all the time. It’s very intriguing and it actually teaches you lots of stuff you wouldn’t have known before. The issue i have with this game, is the response isn’t always the best. For example, when i press a button, it sometimes takes a while to receive the message and i have to press it a few times. Another thing is, it sometimes glitches and you randomly disconnect from the game. Sometimes it doesn’t let you back in and that can be very frustrating and devastating at times. Overall, i give this game a 4 stars.

Really Disapppointing

Bought this game to play with the family at Christmas, even bought add on categories and tested it all out before Christmas Day and even on Christmas Morning to make sure we could all enjoy playing it later on during the day. Came to play the game, and there was an issue with the backend technology meaning that we could not access the game. There seems to be many disgruntled customers that this affected, and it would appear from other reviews that it is an issue that keeps happening at busy periods, and over a number of years. Shame really as it has the potential to be great, but I had a family full of disappointment.

Brilliant when working

This game is brilliant if you don’t want to play on Christmas Day and other peak times. The game wouldn’t load when we tried to play on Christmas Day, it told us it was a peak time and to try again in an hour or two. They desperately really need an ‘offline mode’ to allow users to play in ‘peak times’. We’re assuming we’ll have the same inability to play on New Year’s Eve, so off to the attic we go to dig out a regular quiz game. Disappointed!

If you want to play on days that aren’t a holiday, we highly recommend it - we love that you choose how many assists each player gets (and independently of each other too - great for levelling out the playing field when you’re playing with a know-it-all). We need a lot of assists in our family!

Great when app works

I bought this for Christmas to play with the family. We have been playing for several weeks before to make sure we know how it works, all fine & enjoyed our games with no issues. We went to play this evening (Christmas Day) and the app wouldn’t load at all. I tried and tried, uninstalled and installed again but it just wouldn’t load past adding a team. Really, really disappointed as I’d purchased especially to play with relatives over for the day and purchased extra question categories. Other family members with the app experienced the same. So pretty unimpressed 😢

Terrible to play

We were playing this game and it was constantly crashing. After one or two rounds it immediately froze and crashed. The game had to keep being reset and the cycle repeated. The questions were mostly very easier to answer or very difficult with no in between,interacting with the board is difficult depending on what device you have and most of the time your stuck on a loading screen. Overall, the idea of the game is really fun but it just wasn’t worth the money. Having to pay for the board but then just playing digitally is also a huge waste of time,money and overall the stress of setting it up wasn’t worth any of the playtime or quality. Instructions were very unclear and we couldn’t find the tutorial video anywhere. If you were looking at getting this game then DONT.

Good game

Outsmarted is fun to play especially for families however I would recommend one improvement to make it better.

I would suggest to the developers that in addition to turbo mode, they could have a mode to put a limit on streaks. For example if there was a cap of 5, once a player hits that cap it moves onto the next player. This would help reduce one sided gameplay where one team/individual takes up most of the time in a session.

Not enough questions, poor

The game is great at first. However, after a couple games of purchased extra categories we find repeating questions, there’s probably like 50 questions in some of these categories and after paying 30£ for the board game and then between 1-2£ extra for each category you’d expect 100s of questions. The game is basically unplayable since we’ve seen all the questions. The company should have to update these questions WEEKLY. I personally would not recommend this game anymore because of this reason and me and my girlfriend are upset, because as I’ve already stated the way the game plays is great. Massive LETDOWN. For the money I expected more and you’ve really messed up here.

Needs a few changes!

Good game but the app has a few flaws! Firstly in a shared game you can’t get past the player joining screen unless all the players are ticked. This means the host device can’t be used to play. This needs changing so that any unselected players are controlled by the host device!

Secondly the host can’t open the board when which is a major flaw as some elderly players joining struggle and could do with the intervention of the host to move there pieces.

Okay but ruined by players being able to dominate game play

I was so excited when I bought this game but to date it has underwhelmed me.

The content is actually very good. However, allowing players who answer questions correctly to dominate game play often ruins the game. When a player answers a question correctly they are allowed to answer more questions until they guess incorrectly. This means an individual could be playing for 5 or more minutes if they have a winning streak.

This is really frustrating because the other players zone out and it is rare that we have ever made it through a 60 minute game.

My one recommendation would be to allow players to turn off this function so that each player is only allowed to answer one question each before handing over to the next player. This would certainly make our game play more enjoyable… otherwise this game may gather dust in our game cupboard.

This game is good but a bit rigged!

This game is a really good but sometimes a bit rigged due to the fact that the winning person gets the most amount of times to get assists! Please change this and the game may be very much improved. I hope you take this to consideration when designing new features for the game. Overall good game fun to play with family and friends and love that it has the latest content.

Great!

We played our first games tonight and this was quite a good game, however the second time round we had “Royal Family” as of of the ring categories but whenever we wanted to get a question for that category no matter ring question or a normal question it wouldn’t serve us any questions of that type. Is this due to them banning them, was it a glitch with the games question database for that category or something or are they saying we temporarily can’t get Royal Family category questions in the UK because of the recent news about the health of the British Monarch? As a result there was no way for someone to win the game as all the teams/players would get stuck as this category was the last ring they needed to get to the final round, unless using a timed game. Please fix if this was the case. It would still give us questions for other categories just not the Royal Family despite being selectable still as a category. Other than that it’s a great game. Still giving five stars out of five for this.

I was scammed

I bought this game for my whole family to play. There was 13 of us and we all installed it and it didn’t let any of us load on it kicked us all of and at the tile 4 of us had the latest iphones and every other app worked. This happened last year. This year we tried to play it again and it finally let us on but every single one of us was charged £1.99 for some pack. This was in the summer and i emailed them and 3 of my other family members did telling them what happened. Its now new years eve and they only just got back to my cousin a few days ago saying we were not charged even though we all were and called him a lier. Very disappointed do not buy.

Best board game I’ve played

Absolutely love playing this. So much better than the standard quiz games with question on cards. Had some questions that were literally in the news the day before.

Really good level of difficulty that all the family can enjoy with questions suited to kids and teenagers as well as grown ups.

Haven’t stopped playing this over the Christmas holidays and have also purchased some of the additional question packs - can’t recommend this game enough - you’ll love it.

Great game with a few buts…

Really good fun and the family all enjoy playing it but…

- some of the questions are too easy when the pictures give away the answer e.g we had one asking the name of an athlete and we could read her name on the number pinned to her shirt!

- if more than one player gets to the final round it announces the winner as the person/team that got there first, rather than the whoever completed the final round. This really needs to be fixed, especially because the screen changes so quickly before showing whether the last answer was correct or incorrect that if you weren’t 100% of the answer you wouldn’t realise the issue.

- a lot of the add-on packs have a much smaller number of questions compared to some of the basic packs so the questions start to repeat quite quickly.

Great game and customer service.

Bought this game for Christmas. Kids love it, app is easy to use and great you can put age groups to make it fair for all playing.

Categories are really good and really up to date questions. You can play remotely so great if people are not at your house. All round great game and really thought about from the creators.

What makes this even better is the customer service. Emailed a question about a pack and got a response on Christmas Day helping to solve the issue. Really impressed with everything about outsmarted. If you were in doubt don’t be. Buy the game!

Brilliant Fun

I came across Outsmarted completely by accident on a shopping app, and I’m so glad I did, it’s brilliant and all my family loves it. We can play together in the same location, or at our respective homes. It’s like Trivial Pursuit for the 21st Century, with video, music, and picture questions. You can use one phone/tablet for everyone, or one each, and because it’s an app, the questions can get updated regularly. You can also buy extra categories for £1.99 or £2.99 so it’s unlikely to become repetitive.

It’s fantastic fun, and will doubtless bring us all together more often to play a game, whether online or in person. Well done developers, I hope you have all the success Trivial Pursuit did when it came out.

An easy 5 stars from me, and two thumbs up too!

Great, could be improved

I love the questions and especially how they are updated. The add-on packs are well priced and easy to add.

I have 3 gripes:

1) the physical board has colours that are difficult for me to differentiate, and my colour/shade-blind relatives have no chance;

2) I wish the game would really embrace its online nature. We play remotely and it’s a pain to load an extra device so the “host” can play fully remotely. It also allows for random online board moves and is hard to play for the clumsier players. It would be great to be able to point an icon in a direction and the piece to move in accordance with the die roll

3) remote players can’t see pieces to select or categories to add, as both choices occur before remote players join

My gripes are shooting for perfection. This is a great game, with really good and current questions and is a fantastic way to connect and play with family members who can’t easily meet in person

Great game

Best quiz game ever. We bought this when it first came out a couple of years a go and found it a bit clunky. We re- visited it after a family member bought it recently and it’s fixed all its problems and is the best quiz game we have ever played. Due to the vast number of categories you can upgrade to we can play different types of quiz games with different people including the kids! It’s great that you can cast it to the tv and play it remotely which means wherever you are as long as you have two devices you can play!

Great game, but…

Took the game over to a friend’s house and we really enjoyed playing it, when it stayed connected… the WiFi connection at the property was fine, so there were issues with some of the players being kicked out of the game that weren’t anything to do with the connection at the property. Quite frustrating when you’re showing it to friends for the first time. Great game, but there’s a connectivity issue that needs sorting out! 👍 cheers! 👍

A MUST BUY!

I bought this after seeing an advert, hoping it would get my to adult kids off their devices of TikTok Facebook and insta which it did (little wins) its a game of trivia pursuit who wants to be a millionaire all rolled into one BUT massively better. One of my kids said huh I don’t like quiz games but guess what he loves it and won twice. I love the way you can choose your question packs we have one person picks 2 and so on so there’s something for everyone we only played a 60 minute game but can’t wait to try playing the full game and using the remote setting for family members that live far a field. Thank you Q play it’s an fantastic game experience

Good game in principle, but very glitchy

We enjoy playing the game but the following issues make it frustrating at times. The host cannot bring up the board on the screen and has to use a physical board to keep track of their play pieces. Frequently others crash out of the game and it takes a while to re-establish the link.

Questions start to repeat very quickly and bonuses such as go to a ring are given when you are at a ring already. When the game has finished it returns to the main screen, but the next time you log in the last game is still playing and you have to reboot the game.

Unplayable

This game has always been a little bit broken.

But since the update it has become unplayable. Buggy, randomly kicks players out, un-interactive, un-intuitive. Just utterly broke!

The last 2 games we’ve tried to play have ended in us giving up. One player was getting different question sets to the other players which obviously isn’t right.

The game was broke before the update but it was playable. But since the new update I’m sorry to say it has rendered the game useless.

I could sit here for about an hour writing a really in depth review about how the game doesn’t work but I don’t have the time or effort to do so after we’ve just spent 45 minutes trying to get it to work, to no avail.

Such a shame because this could have been a great game. If you’re on the fence about buying this game, my advice to you would be to not buy it until the game developers take the time to iron out the issues and perhaps outsource the coding of the game to a team who might be able to fix the issues.

Games gone downhill

I have had this game since it launched and it has been our favourite family game, however this new update has ruined it! The questions are repetitive and it glitches out many times. However that’s not the worse part one of the ring questions we worked out and got correct however it said it was incorrect and didn’t give us the ring for it

Such a shame. Game has potential

I played this for the first time yesterday. Three of us all in my front room. The first three games were brilliant BUT then after that the game kept crashing and freezing. We kept dropping out and re booting the game but nothing would work. I fully closed and re opened the a fresh game two more times but I was unable to complete the shortest of games.

Best game I’ve bought. A few little flaws.

This has to be one of the best board games I have bought. I never leave reviews, but this game deserves it. It does have some flaws, the questions very rarely repeat except for the final round questions. We have had the same ones everytime. However all the other rounds and sections have not yet repeated after over 10 games.

There are a few flaws with the cloud play. For instance if you get a notification on your phone when your playing remotely it kicks you out of the game.

Don’t let this put you off tho! Once the developers fix those little bugs it is a flawless,entertaining and encapsulated game.

Fab concept but app has soooo many glitches

Love the game but there are so many glitches. The app needs a lot of work before it runs smoothly. We had to start the game 4 times and only using 2 devices between 6 of us! Got right to the end in teams of two and whilst two teams were on the final round yet another glitch and the team not taking a turn won. Very disappointing. Batteries weren’t low on devices, Wi-Fi was good cannot understand these issues.

Annoying that we keep being kicked out.

It’s such a great concept. But we’ve been kicked out of this game - which was set to one hour, about 3-4 times each person. There were 6 players. We spent more time trying to log back in than actually playing which is so infuriating. We’ve only managed to play it successfully once. We’ve played about 5-6 other times and aborted the game each time. Is a great game, but you need to sort out the glitches or tech stuff. Is just frustrating. If it worked, it would absolutely be a five star

Disappointing

With the claim to be quick to use and set up, but we were obviously too eager, before we knew it we had started with no idea how to travel around the board. A bit of clarity of how to travel around the game and a quick user guide in writing would have been helpful… who wants to watch a you tube guide of game play on Christmas Day for 45mins! Plus we were all on our devices playing the game with no clue!

All the characters depicted on the app weren’t available on the actual board we received!

It would be nice if we could all answer the questions in individual mode even if it didn’t count towards your play, it would mean that everyone was kept engaged even if it wasn’t their go! A group of 6, it seemed a long time for each turn to come back round!

Fantastic Game

This is a blend of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire & Trivial Pursuit. Great fun to play and a lot more interactive than others. A great selection of questions too, accompanied by good audio. Only negatives to this is that some of the answers are spelt differently to UK English and so confused us a couple of times. The app has also crashed on me before. After a break though, and closing the app, it did resume where I had left off. However, I’d already packed the game away. Definitely would recommend though.

New version a bit buggy

Only remember the previous version crashing once over 5 or 6 games. Tried 30 minute game in new version, host device crashed after about 10 mins, was able to restart game but then the other devices got kicked out after a few minutes so had to finish using the host device. Also agree with red and orange colours being a bit too similar. New UI is an improvement although there is more of a delay when loading questions now..hope it gets ironed out soon

Needs work

Great concept and as a family of five we were enjoying our first game, around 1 hour in however the lag started - slowly getting worse until the app hung. App restart at least had the game save state although that seemed to be some time behind our actual game. Decided not to continue and have left this for now - would like to see a game save option that captures actual point in time state and the lag / hang issues fixed. Decent but clearly needs work which is a shame as would have recommend up until this point so £30 not well spent.

Could be better

It’s a great idea and there are a lot of questions. However, most of the time when we get to the final round there are issues and the game announces the wrong winner! Some of the questions submitted by users haven’t been checked properly and are wrong answers, e.g. ‘who was the first actor to play James Bond’ was the incorrect answer - upon Googling the question only one source seemed to agree with the ‘correct’ answer on Outsmarted. This game has a lot of potential but it’s probable that you’re only downloading the app because you’ve already bought the game…

Better after recent server upgrades

I initially rated this one star as app performance was awful. Either not able to access at all or unplayably slow. But after an in app message saying the servers were being updated overnight, it seems much improved. We even managed to have a game with a few remote teams on Hogmanay when we got a message saying it was very busy - there was a slight delay on the questions but nothing that stopped us playing and everyone enjoyed it. So the Outsmarted team has redeemed themselves! Good mix of questions and no repeats even after a few games. Only thing that would be good to change is when playing a game with teams, please can we have the ability for a solo player ‘team’? We had to set up a fake player to enable this for the person we had playing on their own.

Outsmarted

Outsmarted is a brilliant game for the family. It combines learning and fun at the same time. My family has had loads of fun playing it and we do not regret buying it! It has both general knowledge and things that you might not know which is great for people who love to learn and also for those who don’t. No one needs to read out the questions; they are all already programmed into the database. Yay! I would defiantly recommend this for your family.

Issues this year

Whilst this is a great game there have been far more issues with it this year, last year there may have been fewer games being played as the game was a bit more exclusively sold. More plays out there are definitely causing issues with the servers which is really effecting the enjoyment of the game.

It’s a shame this wasn’t resolved before mass distribution

Game unusable - do not buy

I bought this as a gift for my girlfriend and have been sadly disappointed. On Christmas Eve the game worked as intended, but from Christmas Day through to Boxing Day we have been unable to access the game and have spent many hours trying to get it working. The reasoning provided has been that the servers cannot support the level of activity due to high volume of traffic…. I’m sorry but for the amount you pay for this game the last thing you expect is the provider to cheap out on something so vital and obvious as server ability! This is not a budget game and quite honestly playing £5 for games with limited cards is more entertaining than spending hours on special days of the year trying to get a game to work, with no success for 2 days straight after issues had been reported by the company to have been resolved! In this instance paying more does not buy you quality as the product although a good idea in principle is sadly flawed and unusable. Make better choices than I did and save your money for a reliable game.

Major connection issues

It would be a great game if there were not constant connection issues. Two evenings in a row I’ve not been able to play the game. I resorted to playing at 7am!! The company know how many games were sold but have not put the infrastructure in place to allow us all to play. Such a shame, take your customers money but don’t use it to improve player satisfaction.

Great for all the family

We love games as part of family get togethers and this has that rare ability to set the questions to suit all members to make the competition a more even playing field. The number and range of questions is fab but I have to say I look forward to being able to add on packs to keep up to date, the biggest failing of most boxed games. Highlight though, is the ability to include players from all over the world, making us all feel that bit closer. Great game!

Like being on a TV game show

My family and I absolutely love this game. The entire concept is awesome and we’ve had great fun playing it. The interactive element is really reminiscent of being of a tv quiz show. The graphics and general appearance of the game are so slick, and the questions are pitched at just the right level (you can even select the age group for the questions). Best part is that you can play this game with family and friends over a Zoom call. Great fun and really brings a sense of being together. I couldn’t believe it hadn’t been thought of before but I guess we say that about all the best ideas!

Great family game

We bought this game for a Christmas camping trip. It has been an instant success with my wife and 2 girls. The age rated questions has made it a fair game, many of which are bang up to date from within the past week, although our youngest seems to win a disproportionate amount, roll on later in the year when she becomes a teenager! All in all lots of fun, we play it often and look forward new questions and the up and coming update.

The audacity of the lag-

Hi. You are probably wondering why I gave the app two stars. It all started with the latest update (more commonly) but previously we have experienced this issue as well. I am angry as we were doing a family game on here, and then it froze and then they cannot take their go. This is unfair as we had to restart the game, and frustrating as our current progress was lost.

This app is cool for playing remotely with family and friends, but you have to be up for the lag. Although there are many issues with this app, I shall continue to use this app, although it is inconvenient and frustrating, as it is the only way I can play with family during the current COVID-19 situation.

A great game to play with friends… anywhere

We bought the deluxe version of this game after playing online with friends who had the game. We have not been disappointed! Throughout lockdown we have played with friends all over the country through Zoom or Facetime and everyone has enjoyed the game (even if they lost). Outsmarted has brought the concept of Trivial Pursuit into the 21st century and extended it to make a game which is both innovative yet comfortably familiar. No one has to read questions out, they are all contained in the databanks of the game. Many are videos but we particularly enjoy the problem solving aspects of the Quick Thinking round. Other categories such as Pub Quiz and Back to School contain a wide variety of subject areas rather than one single topic. We certainly have not regretted buying Outsmarted and with the new questions which are constantly being added can see us playing for a long time to come. Trivial Pursuit has now been officially relegated to the back of the games cupboard!

Great game

Our family has really enjoyed playing outsmarted. We tried a few times playing remotely with another family and it took a while to setup and then worked well.

The flow of the onscreen questions and using the board was great and although I’m always trying to get the kids off their phones they were spending most of the time chatting and laughing with us so it didn’t feel like “screen time”.

The questions were good and it helped being able to set the ages so all the family could play.

Setting the time limited option was helpful too.

After playing it about 10 times we did know most of the questions but they have now said there are new questions so we can start playing again.
