High cancellation Fee

The worst car insurance company in the UK, they will charge a big amount as a cancellation fee if you will move for cancellation and all the time you have to waste your time for live chat as there is no other option available to contact.

They are scammers , you do insurance with them they accept you , and after they cancel your policy to get money and to not refund anything , they told me my bank statement is fals!I got six pages of payments in one month…..what can be false my payments? Fake company insurance

“I purchased insurance one month ago. Recently, the company requested certain documents from me, which I promptly provided. However, they later claimed they were not satisfied and asked for additional documents. I submitted those as well, yet they still decided to cancel my insurance.
I find this company’s practices to be highly unprofessional and unfair. As a result, I am taking legal action against them. I strongly advise everyone to avoid this company.”

Unable to Log In & No Support Offered

I have been happily using the app since April last year but I am disappointed with the lack of support for software issues.
For a few weeks now I have been unable to log in to the app as the log in code via SMS does not come through and there is no option in the app to log in via email. After looking for support on how to solve this, the only options available are a limited live chat on the website and being referred to the app (which I can’t access). Calling the support line also goes nowhere as the prompt states that the live chat must be used.
This is either something software-based which needs to be solved or a better support alternative needs to be put in place when the app can’t be accessed.

Cancelation of policy

I am extremely disappointed with the way Marshmallow Insurance has handled my policy. I was asked to provide proof of my No Claims Discount (NCD) from my home country, Nigeria, which I promptly submitted. Despite complying with the request, my policy was canceled without any clear explanation of the cause.
It is unacceptable for a company to take such drastic action without properly communicating with its customers or giving them a chance to address any perceived issues. I feel let down and unfairly treated, especially as I have done my part to provide the required documentation.
This experience has left me feeling angry and frustrated, and I would not recommend Marshmallow to anyone looking for reliable insurance. Clear communication and transparency are fundamental, and unfortunately, Marshmallow has failed me in both areas.

Concern Regarding Increased Policy Rates Without Confirmation

They ncrease in my car insurance premiums without proper confirmation and clarity. Below are the details of the situation:
1.I understand that an NCD (No Claims Discount) letter is only issued if the same policy number has been in place for a year. However, in my case, since there were two separate policies, I was not issued an NCD letter. I assumed that, since both policies were with Marshmallow, this would not pose an issue.
2.My previous canceled policy had a premium of £210, and there was no NCD applicable. No other details about my profile have changed. Yet, the new policy provided to me has a premium of £260.
3.When Marshmallow reached out to inform me about the missing NCD, I checked for a new policy with Marshmallow and found one at approximately £230. However, I refrained from canceling my current policy to switch, as I wanted to avoid the £100 cancellation fee.
4.I want to clarify that I never had any intention of providing false information when purchasing my insurance.
5.Additionally, I contacted one of your agents regarding a new Light policy. Initially, I was informed that the monthly payment would be £257. However, after agreeing to proceed, I was told within minutes that the premium had increased to £357. This inconsistency is extremely concerning.
I have always been a loyal customer, but this experience has left me disappointed and frustrated. I feel that the continuous rate increases and unclear communication are unfair.
To resolve this matter, I request that my monthly payments for the Lightest policy be adjusted to £250.
I trust you will handle this matter promptly and professionally. I look forward to your response.

Good insurance and good app. But just need to update the app so that it gives notifications for messages from help chat. They would give insurance in a third party app and would ask too many documents like income proof and if they found it is not upto their standards they would reject it cancellation fee or increase the premium. Don’t go for it. I would always suggest Admiral as they would only look whether you are paying the monthly or yearly premium correctly.

Broken App

App is broken if you have more than 1 policy, won’t allow you to upload any documents for a second policy, and then customer services repeatedly tell you there is nothing wrong with the app when you try to report the issue.

I want to give them 0 stars if they have that rate. I was a loyal customer for a few years without any accidents; however, their price kept doubling every year, and they took money from my bank without my agreement. They also charged me £75fee to cancel the policy, which I have not agreed to yet.
While other companies charge me £60 a month, this company charged me £70 a month and now charge me £140 and take that money without any notice.

The Worst!

They are one of the cheapest I saw, so I register with them. Upon signing up, they didn’t ask for any NCD documents. Or tell something about failure to provide these documents will result to a higher premium. Once I’m in, they waited 5days to ask for the document. And when I told them I don’t have them, they add £1,211 on my overall premium. That’s crazy! So I cancelled! And they took £75 from me. 30£ cancellation fee and the days I was covered! When in fact they waited for 5 days to notify me with the needed documents. try looking at their facebook ad, they can filter the negative comments but they can’t hide the angry reactions!

Disappointing Experience with Marshmallow

Beware of Marshmallow's No Claim Discount policy! It feels like a bait-and-switch tactic. They don't disclose crucial details upfront, and you only discover the limitations after committing.
The policy seems designed to work against customers, with unnecessary hurdles. Transparency is lacking, and communication falls short.
My experience with Marshmallow has been frustrating, and I wouldn't recommend them. Other insurance providers offer more straightforward and customer-friendly policies.

Your customer service team is the worst I have ever seen you rob people for there money.
You say my insurance is cancelled on literally zero legal grounds. Marshmallow unlike other insurance companies will ask you to claim on your own policy when you are at no fault claim and tell you that they will recover the coat from third party later
This will not only affect your none claim bonus but also ask you to pay excess.

Stupid verification requirement!

I am extremely disappointed with this company. First of all, their communication is highly inefficient, their contact team often taking several days to respond! They required me to verify my address, which my previous insurance company never did. My car needs to be temporarily parked at a location for one month, but it’s not my residence. They couldn’t be flexible about this, so I had to cancel the insurance, causing me a lot of trouble. Many people don’t necessarily store their car at their residence, and requiring address verification is a ridiculous setting. At least some companies don’t have such a silly requirement!

I am extremely disappointed with Marshmallow Insurance. My policy was automatically renewed without my consent, and the premium was increased by £240! To make matters worse, they increased my voluntary excess to £1,000 without notifying me. When I tried to cancel, I was shocked to discover there’s a £125 cancellation fee, even though I haven’t made a single claim in the 1 year and 4 months I’ve been with them. This experience has been frustrating and unfair. I would not recommend this service to anyone.

Dissatisfaction and Fraudulent

I feel compelled to express my dissatisfaction with the conduct of Marshmallow Insurance. While they may offer competitive rates compared to the market, their handling of my policy has been deeply troubling and, in my view, fraudulent. As my renewal date approached, the company inexplicably opened a claim on my account without any prior communication or evidence to support their actions. Despite my repeated attempts to engage with their team, I was met only with standard template responses, offering no meaningful explanation or resolution.
The claim in question alleges an incident on 2nd December 2023, which was reported on 6th June 2024, without any substantiating proof. Marshmallow proceeded to hold me liable for £4,000, resulting in the unjust depletion of my No Claims Discount (NCD). Their handling of the situation has been utterly inadequate and unprofessional. I consider their conduct to be not only unacceptable but also indicative of malpractice.

Seeing is believing

I've read so many negative comments online about Marshmallow that I eventually stopped paying attention to them or even checking out any of their ads. However, a friend of mine who has used their services told me that he never experienced any of the issues people were complaining about online. While I can't say that all complaints are unfounded, some are valid, others may not be, I decided to trust my friend and give Marshmallow a try.
So far, I can't complain. I can't definitively say that all the negative comments are false, but based on my experience with them so far, I've had no issues, and everything has gone smoothly. Most importantly, their app is extremely user-friendly. I don't know what the future holds, and whether or not I will encounter any problems remains to be seen. But for now, I'm speaking from my current experience. You need to see it to believe it, it's impossible to form a belief without giving it a try.
I've heard many people online complain about Marshmallow raising their insurance rates, among other things. I haven't encountered that yet, but if I do, I'll post about it online. In the meantime, I'm enjoying their service and am happy with it. I hope it continues this way as time goes on.
This is my story, and I encourage you to try it for yourself and see what your experience is like.

Would not go back.

Cancelled my auto renewal as the new quote was 3 times more than other cover even after having been with them for 2 years. They still took a payment then charged me a cancellation fee to cancel my policy on the day of my renewal. Competitive when first taken then just want extortionate renewal price and trying to cancel they just won’t accept no. Passed through so many people all trying their own special way of reducing my policy. Avoid this company.

Live chat made me mad

The only way to contact Their customer serviceis through live chat. But I contacted for several times and every time I waited for whole days. I even set my phone does not shut the screen automatically. But never successfully chatted with a human agent. Sometimes in the middle of the night, I received a reply said they are so sorry and will reach you as soon as they can. They they never read my previous messages. NEVER! Never ever use this company

My car was broken into 4 weeks ago I still have not been given a time when any repairs will be done on the car, which is not driveable. We are a family of 6 without a car and it is impossible to speak to a human being with regards to our claim. I have been dealing with live chat only and the service is one message a day saying that they are looking into it. The service is shocking and I wish I had never signed up with them. Also all the terms and conditions are much more onerous in the same print including not being able to have a courtesy car until they have found someone to do the repair, if no one does the repair no courtesy car and you are stuck in catch 22. Do not get into this terrible situation like my family is. NEVER EVER USE THIS COMPANY IT IS HELL.

Claim has been made 1year ago as someone crashed into me its still hasnt even been processed by them… if you message them on their “live” chat good luck getting a reply back 😅 takes 2-4 days longing out the question etc. never again… even now to cancel my renewal is taking over a week on the chat as they dont reply straight on so i might be charged this month as they do take their time but good luck guys!!!! If i was yous id run, whole place needs closing down

“Oops something went wrong”

The app has been displaying this error message for the last 6 months and nobody from the live chat has been able to help with the issue.
It’s useless.
Also because of this everyone I need to get in touch with them, I need to use the browse live chat which keep getting closed on me as I am not answering straight away after they reply to my query hours later. They expect me to have my browser open for 6 hours staring at my phone waiting for their answer . Rubbish rubbish rubbish

A real person writing an honest review. Don’t use Marshmallow.

Firstly, there are so many clearly fake reviews (see the 5 paragraph ChatGPT overly verbose template on so many of them), which should have been enough of a warning but I must have missed that when first signing up to Marshmallow in 2022.. a good precursor to how this company operates.
There is a reason it is cheap. As I found out, when you have an accident which isn’t your fault, they transfer you to a no win no fee partner called Winn solicitors. This group owns a credit hire car firm as well as the legal firm and tries to exploit you for as many costs as they can get from the other side. Amongst the 10 mins of small print they read to you while you’re still in shock from the accident, you can agree to be personally liable for credit hire of a hire car at £200 per day.
I could go into plenty of detail but the summary is it took 19 months, plenty of stress, and a 3 hour court appearance, for me to eventually get paid for my old written off Astra. The hire car costs billed to the other party were almost double my cars value.
It should be illegal. I urge anyone to avoid Marshmallow and any other budget insurance firm partaking in this ugly practice.

Fine until you actually have a claim

Advice? Avoid them. Pay more for your insurance and get one with a call centre.
I had a crash on the 18th December 2023 and still waiting for resolution 9th February 2024. The majority of this has been waiting for responses from Marshmallow. Their online chat turn around time is awful and then when they do reply, it’s an automated message and they haven’t actually read your file or question. Frankly the whole experience has left me extremely frustrated and disappointed.

Terrible come renewal

As with nearly every insurance company they try and rip you off with your renewal. My new quote was over 50% higher then last year despite me having another year accident/point free.
After an unnecessary long chat I managed to almost get it down to my cheapest quote with another company but this took them over 5 quotes to do this (I’d already told them my cheapest quote).
Stop wasting everyone’s time and stop trying to take extra money from existing clients.
I wish one insurance would do the right thing for a change and reward existing clients rather then trying to bend them over and squeeze every single penny they can get from you.

Expats Beware!!!

Expats Beware! This company claims low prices, but their premiums are huge and they are absolutely useless on the chat. No phone lines, convinced that it might be a scam. Took me seven hours to get an answer from a chat representative on an issue that I requested (after getting different feedback from multiple employees from different sources). They leave you hanging long enough until the situation is desperate enough that you find other accommodations.

Chat function does not work

Every time I need to contact someone here, the chat is just rubbish. Need to exit each conversation and come back to the same conversation because it doesn’t work.
The website is the same issue.
This make me lose my policy due not working properly and now they won’t match the same price again. A bit frustrated with them.

So appalling is the service I would absolutely not recommend that any one use them . 8 hours alone isn’t the dark to come and collect my car to then have to wait 5 months for repair - this is back in 2021 . Fast forward to 2023 and I’m now being chased for the payment as they haven’t bothered to settle . Don’t bother complaining as as they are not registered in the uk the financial ombudsman cannot investigate . Do Not Use

Wouldn’t normally do reviews but….

Marshmallow policy was much better than others on the comparison sites for a start!
The app was simple from login, kept things easy to use throughout but best of all when making a change to the policy it was all done in the app. I’m used to sitting on hold for 20 mins to be charged to add a change (number plate) but on the app it took 1 minute with no charge. Thank you!

Horrendous Insurance Company

I signed up for a insurance policy last week. When I was signing up I was a full time student and finished my course on 23rd June. So they accepted my policy without asking for any documentation and once the policy started they asked for proof of occupation. I tried contacting the university for the letter but sadly I was graduated a week ago I couldn’t get my hands on that. And now they’ve cancelled my policy even though I provided them letter from university which says I’ve just graduated. If it was to cancel the policy should’ve asked the documents upfront. As I don’t have them I wouldn’t have signed up. Now they charged me for processing fee and everything . When they cancelled the policy from their end. They are going to charge me a cancellation fee its a complete rip off. When I tried to contact the customer service asking them about this they were being rude and pointless and refuse to waive my cancellation fee. Its just like scamming students

The most terrible insurance company has ever existed. There is no customer service and nobody to respond even after days. The app automatically renews your policy at a higher price and when you try to cancel renewal before expiration date, will face different errors, ultimately pushing you to unintended renewals and extra charges . I also sent an email to complain service and explained the technical issues but didn’t receive any response after a week. It’s absolutely a junk service you will ever see in your whole life.

No phone number to call.
Online chat takes hours to respond.
Verification of photo ID with your selfie.
In case if you don’t upload the iD in short time, but they won’t tell you how much time you have. They will cancel your policy. Without sending you email or text or call. So if you are waiting for driving license because of any reason don’t bothered. My iD came days before the policy start and I was simply unable to upload them. They don’t care if you will stay. They expect you to get another quote that cost twice as much.

I have Have been exceedingly happy with marshmallow until recently.
My car was in a flood a couple of weeks ago - after soon realising marshmallow fully intended in dragging their feet on validating my claim relating to this and were content on leaving me and thus my family without a car for at least a few weeks I went out and got another.
However, since forking out on this Marshmellow are desperately trying to cancel my policy or “trip me up” in regards to my claim on the flooded car (worth just around £2500). First they insinuated my car was not taxed and didn’t accept any evidence I provided until I gave them an undeniable amount and now they are sending cancellation notifications for “speeding” although I highly contest one of the occurrences - I never knowingly drive 20mph over the limit and the other I was a passenger (indicating the unsuitability of their app). Bare in mind their app rates my driving style ‘pro’ and I had no such need for speed before the claim.
I must say, many of the first line representatives I’ve spoke to on the app have been exceedingly helpful. However, the company is not interested in providing the service advertised, just lining its pockets - only to desperately reel out of an agreement at any unethical expense when required to honour it. Stay away, I wish I had read the reviews before taking my policy out with them.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

I made a claim with Marshmallow 5 weeks ago as my car caught fire due to a malfunction with the vehicle. Since then I have had little to no contact with them unless I’ve contacted them myself. They use a third party for everything - who are absolutely shocking! You cannot speak to anyone via telephone and it is all online chat service which is horrendous. They requested photos of the damage to send to their third party repair company which I sent over straight away. Marshmallow did not send my photos over until a week later and this was only done as I had contacted their repair company who told them they hadn’t received them. I have been 5 weeks without a car and now on the brink of losing my job due to their lack of urgency and customer care. The repair company they use Motor Repair Network have no sense of urgency and Marshmallow will not chase them up and request you contact them yourself to chase them. I have my car manufacturer waiting on Marshmallow as they cannot do their own investigation without their report however, despite explaining this and being promised my claim would be put as urgency there has been 0 progression or anything done by them. I have made formal complaints and heard nothing back. They have caused sleepless nights, tears and made an already stressful situation ten times worse.. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Reg transfer

Changed Private Plates

I recently put private plates on my car and dreaded the call and wait when speaking to my insurance company. But then I realised I had an app with Marshmallow Insurance.
I downloaded the app and opened up my account in less than 2 mins. Opened up the section for private plates and simply entered the details.
In total less than 4 mins all complete and to top it all off there was no additional charge. Which is usually a real gripe.
Totally impressed and very happy.
