The quality of produce from Ocado is excellent, which proves you get what you pay for. Being able to buy M&S goods is great too. All delivery drivers are helpful and if there are any holdups, communication is good. Keep up the good work Ocado

Update: Third time now, ocado has re-opted me in to their larketing communications without ly consent for the 3rd time in just a couple of months....
Once again, Ocado has re-opted me to marketing communications without my consent. This is 2nd time this year... I've just re-opted out again, took a screenshot and next time this happen, I'll send that straight to the regulator - the ICO.

Update needed

The Ocado shopping experience is by far the best. The app is easy to use and everything makes sense. The only issue is since their changes, you can no longer order by price which is a huge downside. When you try, nothing changes. This needs fixing ASAP.

Old App was better

This is a significant downgrade from the old Ocado app.
1. the barcode scanner is missing. This was really helpful and a fast way to reorder an item.
2. Favourites are no longer at the top of the search list. This is clearly done so ocado can advertise other items and sell the items they want to get rid of, but is very annoying for the customer.
3. Having to scroll through pages and pages of items I don‘t want at checkout is another waste of time.
Overall the updated app is designed just to benefit Ocado sales, not its customers. It is designed to make the shop take longer in the hope the customer buys items they don‘t want or need.

Dark patterns on Ocado

When placing an order, even if you only buy once, products get added to your favourites.
These favourites are used as a basis for every order.
The primary CTA is to add them to every order regardless of if they are already in the basket.
We’ve had so many duplicate items and takes ages to remove.

why?

I’ve been a customer almost from the beginning, and Ocado has always had the best app for groceries shopping.
Unfortunately, this update seems to have chosen to get rid of some of the better features, like organising your trolley by fridge/freezer/cupboard….
And one wonders….if you already have been providing these helpful details for years, why would you decide to remove them, why?

CONSTANT CRASHING!

Dear App Developer,
Before you blame me or my equipment for the tiresome and frustrating crashing of this app, I must point out that this regular crashing is not happening with ANY of other of the many apps I am using.
The problem is YOUR end and a competent fix is needed - NOW. So what is the delay?
And no more templates, stock answers or AI responses to exasperated users please. And app users don’t need to be fobbed off with the “contact customer services” etc nonsense. Just, please fix the app.
To reiterate, the Ocado app is the only - ONLY - app I am having trouble with.
Ocado is a great online supermarket but at the moment the app is crashing every few minutes and sometimes even disappears on opening.
You know EXACTLY how to rectify this issue, so please do so. Is your lack of action because you just lazily can’t be bothered?
Please prove me wrong and fix it asap.
I repeat: this is the only - ONLY - app I am having problems with. Please listen. This is ONLY app I am having problems with.
Thank you.

Buggy and a very poor UI

Quick add to existing order rarely works beyond the first use. The annoying scrolling through at least three screens before you check out. You then press the final checkout button but still the order is not finalised as you have to move to another screen to confirm your order and then another screen to place your order. Caught out so many times and sometimes you can easily add multiple items without realising it.

Love it, but…

Up until this version, I’ve used my ageing iPad Pro to do weekly orders, and it’s worked perfectly. This version just disappears if I try and run it on the same device (with the latest version of iPad OS 16). It’s not opening then closing (so it’s not visible on the running app list), it opens then disappears. It works on my phone with iOS 26.1, but it’s much easier to use on the big screen! Any ideas?

Excellent shopping and customer care

I have shopped on line with Ocado for quite a while now, over two years. I can usually find what I am looking for. One of the reasons I shop on Ocado is that I can get M&S products. Yes, occasionally there are hickups and errors, however these have always been dealt with quickly and efficiently.

Infuriating app

This app is infuriating!! Scrolling looking for what I need and every minute or so the app randomly closes then I have to open the app again and find where I left off and by the time I get to where I left off the app closes again! What the hell is going on?! Sick of having to keep reopening the app! Takes me all day to do my shopping when it should only take half hour tops! Sort it out! It’s like you don’t care about the app anymore!

Email/notifications overkill and UI issues

Developer responses to reviews show how not bright they are.
Someone complained (in another review) about having to click “continue” multiple times before checkout. To which developer response suggested to “click continue several times and you are good to go”…
Add a “checkout instantly” option to skip “continue” user flow. Check Waitrose app which already has this option if you can’t do own UX research.
Push notifications:
Endless spam suggesting to get excited about Ocado. Jesus, this is a mundane weekly shopping, chill with your push notifications and add an option to disable them! Despite turning everything off on the web interface - still getting nonsense push notifications. Disabling on the device also disables delivery status updates. That’s extremely du*b.
App UI:
Add a dedicated search tab within the app so that any search results remain when switching between basket view and search view. Every time you click away to a basket and then attempt to see you searched for - you have repeat the search again. From earlier review: pass to your CRM and product teams: 1. I don’t need an email every time I order 2. I don’t need an email every time I make changes to my order 3. I need options within the app to control which email messages come out and which don’t 4. I need an option to switch to push notifications only

Annoying new app

Update on no longer new app: still issues that have not been addressed. Need to pay attention when I add items that they’ve been added at correct price; a discounted item is added at full price and unless one is paying attention one wouldn’t realise. A glitch? Hmm. C’mon. Deal with this. I cannot contact Ocado every time and I’m missing out on getting items / (previous review) - Needs work. Annoying layout. Seems as if a tech person has built this for look rather than keeping in mind the needs of someone shopping, as efficiently and effectively as possible. Features on previous app seem unavailable. Basic features for speed and ease not there or only at a certain point in the process (i.e. actual item price if there’s an offer or reduction or something only shows up i believe at one point. Makes shopping very opaque and hard to know if a discount has actually worked.). And I’m tired of emailing Ocado to point out tedious issues like this. Was there zero testing by actual shoppers?

Functionality missing - Bring back barcode search !!

Please bring back the barcode search. Like a lot of the reviewers, this was one of the most useful functions of the app for me. I’m also missing the ability to create a multi “search from list” when using the website. Please bring it back. The shopping list function is not the same thing. That is only useful if you want to order the same things again and not the special things for each week’s menu that change. I already have a regular order so my basket is filled with the staple items. I now have to keep going backwards and forwards to the search bar on the Home Screen to find each additional item which is much more time consuming. I notice that Waitrose has the multi list function which would be incentive enough for me to give them a try.

Just LOVE Ocado

What can I say. Have used many different food delivery services, but none top Ocado! Items are delivered in carrier bags that you get 10p back on each one on your next shop (instead of having to unload each item one at a time from crates). Also if your shopping would have cost less at Tesco you get a voucher for the difference.
There’s also the option to buy M&S food as well as Ocado food.
Getting a refund (which I’ve rarely had to do) is a breeze. Customer service is amazing.
You’re given updates on the time your order will arrive and the drivers are very friendly and helpful.
Can’t fault this company and highly recommend.

2025-10-03

A real mixed bag

The new app definitely has improvements over the old, especially being able to deselect a favourite instantly, where the old app would have the spinning icon and if you hit the back arrow while still spinning, would scroll your list all the way back to the top. Longest I counter was 35 seconds waiting.
Favourites having a last purchased date is really useful, however the filters have much less choice than the website. Worst feature by far is my favourites list repeats over and again , but not every item. I often see an item I have added to my basket at least 3 or 4 times as I scroll down the list, which makes it huge to get to the bottom.
A few tweaks and better filters and more control over favourites (I don’t want everything I buy added automatically and why can’t I filter by number of times purchased, so I can get regular items only)
Tylesy76
2025-09-18

Prefer old system

The new algorithm is not as good previously I could either make a typo or not put the exact item and Ocado would find it now you've got to be totally specific which actually means that M&S loses a lot of orders ! On the email following delivery as underlined 'here's your receipt' you tap here download and actually zero is downloaded on either iPhone iPad or iMac I have to go into webpage. I have to login online. Find the order, find the receipt and then click the PDF to find full details - this is getting to be really tiresome and need sorting out. customer services do their best but basically the guys who write the algorithms clearly don't shop with you or they have a very limited shop - sometimes I just like to go in and be tempted and this isn't happening. I'm having to go elsewhere so it would be nice if you could get this sorted thank you.

Checkout problem

Logged into my account, had no payment methods added both in account and apple pay. Filled basket, went to checkout and pressed pay, apple pay came up, went to set up card in apple pay but changed my mind and went to set up card in ocado account settings, went back to checkout but even with ocado pay method selected it kept popping up the apple pay option, nearly destroyed my ipad was so annoyed as no matter what I selected it kept opening the apple pay screen. Had to close app and re open to get the ocado payment method to work. Also unhappy that when I search for product and see search results then open basket to compare to basket item, there’s no way to go back to the search result, have to search again. Also was not happy with the fact It forces you to scroll to the bottom of 2 upselling screens before you can check out with button intentionally placed all the way at the bottom. The rest of the app was good, and product options look good, will see how the delivery experience goes.

Worse than before

I’m not sure how much UX testing went into the new app, but it’s lacking in many areas.
The worst for me is the checkout. Ocado suggest I’ve missed or have incomplete offers, but when you click on the link to let’s say an ‘incomplete’ 3 for £8, it says I have 3 of 3 in my basket. So, not incomplete after all. The same thing happens across a variety of offers. When you click on the 3 for £8 offers, it also really unhelpfully suggests items not included in that offer, or any other sale/ offer.
Equally bad is receiving a text message 1 day, a whole day, before checkout to ‘remind’ you. Great thanks. An SMS, which people stopped using about a decade ago, 1 day before checkout. How about a series of push notifications if you do indeed want people to check out with their updates. It could start a day out from checkout “Hey, you have 30 updated items, don’t forget to check out”, and then as it gets closer have a couple more perhaps, until 15 mins before.. “last chance to checkout and your order updates to take effect”. I can only think Ocado have worked out they’d lose money by doing this as it’s just so simple, and has been suggested plenty of times, but no luck.

Bad app now and poor response

Recent changes are very unhelpful. Too many promoted items, and you can’t link to similar items or other things in the same brand from a product view. Worst of all you can’t choose from your instant list - it just adds the whole list.
Update - the answer I’ve got to this review from the ‘Customer Hub’ is rubbish and misses the points. I don’t want the whole list added but to be able to choose from it like I used to. I want to be able to check similar items from the product view. Etc etc etc as per everyone else’s also poor experience of this bad new app iteration.
I cannot see any ‘exciting new features’ that compare to the very good way the previous app worked - it’s just really annoying and clunky and off putting and so
HEY THERE OCADO - IT’S TIME TO LISTEN AND GO BACK TO THE APP WE ALL LOVED 👋🏼

Premature release

This app has been released with fewer features than the old one - a new release is supposed to be an improvement. I discovered by accident that the orders no longer sync with my calendar. A very dismissive and unhelpful chat told me that this was down to my device. This is not true as it was always an option in settings. The icons are too large on the screen, so it is difficult to get an overall picture of product choices or of my trolley. To find past orders you have to go to future orders. Very disappointing all round from Ocado.
I received a totally unhelpful reply to the above. “If I want to discuss this more, contact the customer hub” - what is that? They have removed features that weren’t being used. How would you know that people weren’t using the sync to calendar? Maybe people didn’t know about it if so, and what have you gained by actually removing an obviously useful feature? Apparently I now have to scroll tight down to the bottom of the confirmation email and manually add the booking to my calendar.
Yes, I have found where to view previous orders. My point was that you have to click on “upcoming orders” to see them!
What are the new features that we are supposed to be so pleased with? The only one is a so called accurate arrival time for delivery, but even that was incorrect last week.

Update to the app is even worse!

This latest required update to the new app was supposedly to fix bugs, yet it’s now even more riddled with them and, just in case you thought it impossible, even worse! Eg I got a message to check the app for the ETA of an upcoming delivery, but get the message “Sorry, we can’t provide any details at the moment”… it’s even more overloaded with flashing images and attempts to get you to buy things, with the font size so small in amongst all the crammed images that I need a magnifying glass to read the text on an iPad... This is without doubt the worst shopping app I’ve come across. As the new website is as bad, it’s going to be the end of a long relationship pretty soon ~ I’ve been with Ocado since the very beginning (when they dared to have the slogan of “Be more demanding”!), but given they’re online/app only, they really have trashed their brand with all the latest changes. (And *please* don’t ask me to “reach out” if you find time to reply!)

Hate the new App

I have been shopping with Ocado since they first launched and have spent an awful lot of money with them over the years. Their USP in the ‘olden days’ used to be one hour delivery slots. As all their competitors have caught up with this the main thing remaining was the site navigation and ease of use ( with some flaws highlighted and never fixed). They say they tested this before launch but I would have appreciated you testing it with your biggest users rather than a geographical area of Bristol who are not as long term shoppers. My main complaint is that visually it is so BUSY trying to find a product with all these promotions. I search for face cream and get a promo box for cheese in the middle of it. Stuff in my trolley appears twice on screen as two separate items making me wonder if I have selected the item twice in different sizes. And you still haven’t resolved a non manual way of adding price promise vouchers so I regularly miss the expiry date which seems to be getting shorter and shorter. The website is so different that the Tesco one now looks closer to my old preferences…

Stress free

Shopping online with Ocado is so quick and easy. In my experience the customer service is great and any little problem which is rare, is rectified quickly. Compared to other supermarkets this is now the only retailer I shop online with due to how straightforward it is. There are a large variety of brands and products. I am a wheelchair user, it is great having the order packed in bags, compared to other retailers who require the customer to take the order out of trays and then to put it into their own bags. I find this difficult because of my health issues. Ocado recycle the bags and you get reimbursed for every bag you return. All in all, I would recommend Ocado for stress free shopping!

What’s with the downgrade?

I have only had this app a few minutes and already I can see so many helpful things have been removed like being able to pick which dept I want to see my favourite items for! So if I just want fruit and veg I can quickly add those. All the helpful additions gone, way longer process, awful layout, adverts really annoying. Why have you done this? You can no longer add by barcode scan, but the most important thing is it no longer shows me the cost of items when on promotion in my basket, it just adds them in a lump at checkout, I want to see what the discount is, I don’t want to have to do the maths on every promotion to work out the final cost! The feedback seems to be these changes are permanent and they aren’t planning to have the old features back, which for me is too much, have put up with the reduction in choice, only M and S brand in certain categories, and reduction in quality of fruit/veg while prices went up, but this app gives me the rage trying to do such basic tasks, forget that I can’t read it now cause they changed the font sizes. Off to discover how to cancel our Smart Pass of 10years and give Waitrose a try!
Updated to add, 10 years we have had a smart pass and I have cancelled it. If this is how much we are valued as customers then my loyalty is gone.

Disappointed with new App

Having used Ocado for many years, I loved the old app. New one has lost the ability to scan products. Have to search manually look for products which is not as efficient as the old one. Why change something that’s isn’t broken for the sake of change. New isn’t always better especially in this case. Thank you for responding however I find it extremely strange reading your generic response that you are not prepared to listen to your users & do something about it. I have read other reviews & they are all without exception telling you that the new app is not an improvement & that the loss of being able to scan a product is a set back.
Maybe you should also take the time to read the reviews & act open them.

Rewritten to give one more star, but still missing old features

Have got more used to this app, but still think is not as good as the old one . Massive graphics take up loads of space on a small phone screen, isn't quite as bad on an ipad. I do like the ability to add multiple items on the (tiny) quick add button, but not the extra click to confirm. And really dislike the 'featured' taking up so much space above favourites, having to scroll to get to frequently purchased items isn't great - especially when featured items are not on offer or seen to have any reason to be featured. But the think I really miss from the old app is the barcode scanner. I used to use this frequently when - mid cooking - I used the last of something and didn't want to type the name of it in. Can we get this back please?!

New app is terrible - no list function

Having been with Ocado for +14 years I’m now contemplating leaving on the basis you can no longer do a simple shopping list of items but have to enter one item /search for it /write next item /search for it. So irritating. A list of products seems to be a fairly basic requirement for an online supermarket. Why have you taken away this basic function. I spoke to the Helpdesk who said it was equally annoying for them their end.
Please reinstate! Otherwise another customer lost.
***
Thanks for your response. It doesn’t address why you have removed such an essential tool as writing (typing) a shopping list. We eat different meals every week so there’s no way to create a list that I can refer to. It seems insane that the new app has less don’t than the old one. The exact opposite of what an update should achieve

New app is terrible

I really have no idea why they changed the old app which worked perfectly well. The new app does not display star ratings of all products side-by-side. It also no longer allows you to see the prices of products in your basket clearly unless you switch it to list view. This makes it difficult to make quick decisions and price check. The preset lists are now very difficult to edit and the quantity of each item cannot be set beyond x1. The first week of using this I didn’t realise and half of my shop didn’t arrive because there were many items I always have preset on duplicate which have been automatically put back to x1 without notice and did not come. I’m not sure how I feel about using this in the future as it’s becoming increasingly difficult to use.
Edit- also the search engine doesn’t work. Search for something pretty standard but get random unrelated items shown like pet food instead.
Also the ingredients are way too far down the page. Much needed before deciding if safe or right to purchase an item.

Not made for smaller smartphones

Released with several pain points that should have been caught in development and testing. I only use the app on my iPhone mini. Most UI elements are too big so don’t see munch on the screen at the same time. Pop ups for items at bottom of screen are inaccessible eg can’t access buttons etc as they are off the screen and and can’t scroll down to them. Can’t read full reviews. Even though most text and images and buttons are larger, non of the quick actions are easy to find or use. Feels like aesthetics over usability was favoured in the development of this new app. Gave 3/5 as it’s still provides its basic function. Hoping updates will fix these and any other issues that I might stumble across…

Hoping for improvements…

I’d like to add a request to my existing review - please bring back (or rather bring from the old app to this new app) the ability to sort every section by price, price per, etc. Only being able to sort by “favourites first” and “customer rating” is not helpful. I have to say also that I’m really shocked by some of these developer responses. Clearly this app is missing a lot of functions that the other app was, and it seems there are no plans to bring these functions to the new app. I would urge you to please review these reviews and consider whether there are ways that you can improve this new app for the people who use it - your paying customers.
Original review: I have to agree with the other reviews - this feels like a downgrade, is missing lots of features of the old app, and existing features do not work as well. I hope with time these issues will improve, but I’m not sure who thought it was a good idea to make everyone switch to this app when it’s clearly not fully ready yet.

Disappointed

Compared to all the other apps the Ocado app just worked. I could use it without a second thought and so it got out of the way and just let me focus on the shopping. The new app is weird and buggy. It feels like using a lower quality app like Sainsbury or Asda and the changes mean I’m forced to change the way I use the app. A challenge I’m not looking for. My question to the developers, if someone came to your home and rearranged all the furniture and the buttons on the remote control, and that was for your benefit, how useful would you find that. Or would you end up going somewhere else which is still a familiar environment?
Why force people to upgrade. Leave both there and everyone will jump to the new app by their own choice because it’s so much better and a challenging change is what we’re all looking for. There is no good excuse for not letting us still use the previous app. We can then trial the new app and decide to move when we’re ready.

Awful new app - who developed this???

I have never been incited to leave an app review before but this ‘upgrade’ that I had to download yesterday has left me so angry I felt I had to. And reading the ‘developers’ responses to all the other terrible reviews below has made me more angry, it feels like reading a politicians responses. They are getting the same feedback over and over again with no apology no explanation. I actually never used the barcode search but you’d think that if you had a huge amount of customers saying how important it was to them you’d take steps to reinstate it not just say oh yeah we decided to take that away but thanks for your feedback. WHO decided to take these features away and change the whole interface to make it so much less user friendly? Some 20 year olds who don’t do any online shopping?? I think I’m so irritated as I’m a busy young mum who has used this app for convenience for many years and the new upgrade has just made my life more difficult, time consuming and painful for no reason which I have no tolerance for. I truly hope Ocado lose customers as a result of this app change so they have to take their valuable customers feedback on board and make some much needed changes to this new app

Not an upgrade visually

Why do the “featured” i.e. sponsored/advertised items take up the whole first page of a search? I never buy those, it’s annoying to have to scroll now to find the items I do buy. Everything has pointlessly got bigger, the UI on the old app was fine - I could see more items on my screen at once. Also where are the use-by dates in the app for my last order!?!?! I use this all the time - now I’ll have to squint at the PDF that gets emailed instead. Why if I go to the order screen is the middle of the page dominated by a box showing the payment method and I have to scroll to see any products on the order?! I only have one payment card registered so I don’t need to see this information ever! There is also no longer a list view in the basket without pictures. Everything is just so big everywhere! This is a huge downgrade. Have cancelled my latest order which was due tomorrow, not sure what to do about the ones booked after that. Have also cancelled my Smart Pass renewal whilst I think about it.

Missing key feature from old app

Some parts of the revamped app look better than the old one, but the dealbreaker for me is the fact that if you have a lot of favourites (and I do) it’s now impossible to quickly get to an item - the old app enabled one to select a product category (fresh, food cupboard etc) which was invaluable but now trying to browse through a long randomly ordered list is tedious and the offered sort and filter options useless. Not a fan and am likely to use Ocado less frequently if I can’t find a workaround to speed up creating an order - Waitrose, ASDA and Tesco apps all do this much more effectively (as did the old Ocado version). I hope this is addressed in a future update.

New all is major step in wrong direction

I’ve been a very long-standing customer of Ocado, and this new app is a really confusing design mis-step. The previous UX was in-my-opinion industry leading for both clarity and information density, and in both cases, this app is a significant step back. Two easy examples: 1. Browsing products is now much more time consuming and less enjoyable, as the product cards are much larger than they used to be, making it harder to quickly browse for the product you are looking for. In addition, the multi column layout of “Category hierarchy” and “Items to buy” that you could collapse/expand has gone, meaning you have to go back and forth a lot to refine categories for an action that previously you could complete on the same view. 2. The cart is a complete mess. Previously, cart items were grouped by category, so it was easy to see what you had added grouped by fresh/store cupboard etc. At least it’s not as bad as Sainsbury’s cart (worst UX across all that I’ve used), but I was shocked to see such a loss of information clarity in this new release. Really hope the developers are able to bring back the UI we used to have here.

A lower standard

This is not as good as the previous one. Agree with other reviewers. Harder to see your order on a phone. Most importantly when I search for a product directly from editing an order the app crashes. It’s ok from the home page but had to reopen app several times when I forgot to do this. You have a scroll a lot to checkout and it’s clearly designed to get you to look more at the flash sales and other offers. And yet to see offers on your favourites you have to swipe right. Seems the wrong way round from a customer’s perspective. But clearly this has been designed with the company rather than the customer in mind. Not a good long term strategy!
Just also noticed that I am no longer told on the text or email who will be delivering my order. I always take note of the name and greet my driver with it. They seem to appreciate it - that their customer values them enough to do that. It also takes away the accountability too. There is no one to name if there is a problem

Not as good as the old app

As a long time customer and user of the old app I have to say I am disappointed in this updated version.
The new app does not feel like it has been designed with the user in mind, just how much automation/smart shopping can we chuck into one app!
It is not clear if regulars have been added to my basket as standard, when selecting a pre-made list the ingredients are just added to the overall basket, whereas previously they were spectated out - much easier to see what was included and missing, Too many ads and sponsored items on The home page for things I have never looked at let alone purchased to name a few.
My overall shopping experience has been severely diminished and if it wasn’t for the quality and selection of products available I would be looking elsewhere

Needs a lot of work the old app was better

The font is too big and bold in the new app which means product details don’t show properly in the screen. The book a slot page is really messy, I don’t know what you e done but the times are all over the place and don’t line up with the slots. There’s way too many pages of suggestions to click through to check out, I know the old app did this but there should be an ‘instant checkout’ button like the Waitrose app has. The quick add button is clunkier than before and although this avoids checking out again it is annoying that an email is sent for every addition. The search isn’t working properly and seems to bring up random results and too many pushed suggestions/promotions. Overall it’s annoying to use. Since the new app went live delivery texts are also not being sent properly - today’s texts arrived 20 minutes after my delivery. Since Ocado ditched Waitrose it’s gone down hill and this new app is making the user experience worse.

New app seems to be for Ocado not customers

There appears to be only one improvement in the new app - I can see exactly what time my delivery will be arriving. Aside from that the interface seems to be geared to making customers scroll through great long lists of items, 4-6 at a time with what Ocado wants to sell at the top and including some irrelevant goods. For example, if I search on tomatoes sorted by price the first image I see is of 4 expensive sponsored items, even if I sort by price. Because there are now only 2 columns of items displayed, I have to SCROLL BACK AND FORTH through pages and pages to compare options. The filters don’t appear to work (I got eg bottles of passata and pasta sauce when I used the Fresh & Chilled Food filter and the ‘fresh tomatoes’ suggested search option. In addition, the pop up at the bottom is annoying. The browse menu has had the line spacing increased so even MORE SCROLLING, and the submenu options appear on a new page, again with loads of spacing so MORE SCROLLING. This is will add a lot of time to grocery shopping.

Definitely not helpful!

Oh deep joy - yet another App that now doesn’t work on my old iPad! I’m on a pension - I can’t afford a new one, yet many so called updated & therefore better apps just don’t work on it any more! Surely this should be remedied by app developers to incorporate older systems so that we can still access the apps we need. But then Apple’s own shopping app no longer works on my Apple iPad so I guess there isn’t much hope for any of us less wealthy people. 😠 So thank you for your reply but no, it won’t work via my browser - just gets overridden with a message to update my app!!! I’m now having to do my order on my phone, which isn’t ideal, but my only option.
Ah worked it out - delete the app & it’ll work through your browser. You have to log in every time but no biggie. 🥳

New app isn’t great

There were features on the former Ocado app that no longer feature in the new app, and it’s driving me mad!
Not showing the price of an item once a valid coupon has been applied is really hard, and also confusing, as the actual price to be paid, and the net total of the entire bill isn’t clearly indicated until AFTER you have checked out. The value of each coupon redeemed are shown in a list at the end, but don’t name the host product. The running total of the basket is the gross figure, which while this is explained in brief on the relevant page, the much needed breakdown isn’t available at this point. Unless you have made a manual note you don’t know the total basket cost net of redeemed coupons applied, until AFTER you have checked out.
It is now much easier to amend the ‘favourites’, regulars, etc.

Visually an improvement, however there is a but…

The new app is more appealing to look at but some key functionality is missing. 1) Barcode scanning: this feature is missing from the app. I don’t know why someone thought it would be a good idea to drop this when looking at the reviews it clear that barcode scanning was clearly valued. 2) PDF receipts: These used to be attached to an email sent before delivery. Now you have to log in to the Ocado website to obtain them. 3) Advertising: I feel like more screen real estate is being used to promote and advertise products. 4) Calendar picker: In the previous app, you could use the calendar picker quickly to see at a glance the slots you’ve booked, and how far advance you can book up to. Now the calendar picker just shows you dates. Come on Ocado, please be and do better!!

The new app is much worse for Voiceover users

Really disappointed and frustrated by the new app. It's much harder to navigate and to find what I want compared to the old app. While it's technically accessible with Voiceover, it's annoyingly verbose in places, which makes it much slower to use. As far as I can find, the only way to read the use by dates on items in past orders now is to go in to the PDF receipt, which makes for much harder reading with Voiceover. I've stuck with Ocado for many years because accessibility of the app used to be so good compared to that of other cheaper supermarkets. Unless the app improves soon, I'm likely to go elsewhere. I miss the notifications from the old app that the driver is on their way and that they've arrived. I do like being able to get the estimated time of arrival in the new app though, that's about the only improvement in the new app.

not a good redesign

this is still the best place to shop for choice and top quality local and world foods but the new app redesign is not good, after searching for a product, you have a list of foods show up on the left 30% of the screen, the other 70% of screen real estate is taken up by a giant ‘add to cart’ button and a teeny tiny ‘quick buy’ button, it’s a bizarre choice and annoying that i now need to retrain my eyes for where things are. with the old app, you could see more products on screen, and once you click into a product, if you want to see more from that particular brand, you need to scroll down, whereas before it was right up top. also the email’s for you order don’t allow you to add the delivery to your calendar, like before. this redesign reminds me of streaming services, where they put all the movies at the bottom and a big animated banner at the top, when we all know in a supermarket, the good stuff’s up top and the worse products are on the bottom shelf. the redesign’s just so odd, people eat with their eyes and you would’ve thought the makers of this app would understand these things, and not to be a hater i’m all for shaking things up, but this was a change just for the sake of change, not an improvement.

Bad app

I have been an Ocado customer for 12 years and you can’t fault them for their customer service. This is why I’ve stayed so long. BUT this new app is terrible. I know it can take a while to get used to change but this feels like a huge step backwards. There are many things I hate about the app but the worst thing for me is the instant shop. On the old app you could browse through the instant shop and had the choice to add all or just to click on the items you wanted. This made shopping a breeze. In this app you have to add EVERYTHING. Then you have to go to your basket and remove what you don’t want. It’s really annoying. When I was choosing which supermarket to have my deliveries from 12 years ago, the app was one of the reasons I chose Ocado. I know it sounds mad but I’m seriously considering looking elsewhere. My mum has used Ocado for 12 years too and is having problems. So much so that she ditched her last shop and got a click and collect from another supermarket. Please listen to your customers and make the app more like the old app.

A backwards step.

So, the old Ocado app was perfectly fine and usable and had a smooth interface. Everything was well laid out and worked better than any of the other supermarket online shopping apps in my opinion. This new version feels slow and clunky. The option to immediately request refunds for missing or damaged items is nowhere to be seen. This feature in particular was what made the old app so good. The display and text have been enlarged to a point that you cannot see all of the relevant text for an item listing and it can only display two to three items at once meaning endless scrolling. This new version feels like a budget version of the old app. I have no idea why Ocado felt the need to make this change. It has soured the customer experience for me and as a long time regular customer I may take my business elsewhere if they do not make significant changes to the user experience.

Update adds freshness but not utility

It’s been a while since the Ocado app saw a major refresh, and this is a significant one. While the basic functionality remains, the whole UX has been redesigned, and doubtless many behind the scenes aspects too. For me at least though, the changes are more “miss” than “hit”. The new search results are much busier, and fewer results fit on the screen, making it harder to find what you’re looking for. To make things worse, adverts for Ocado products and app features that you’re not looking for are interspersed with the search results, an unwelcome feature borrowed from social media apps. And they’ve removed the ability to search by barcode - rarely used, no doubt, but still useful. Hopefully some of these issues can be addressed in future updates.

New App Not Nice to Navigate

The new app is terrible to navigate - you click on bakery and instead of bringing up a menu at the side and pictures of the products that you then filter on you get a menu that fills the whole screen and have to filter down to the product. This means that you don’t get to browse and see something you don’t normally have. There is too much on one page it is too much to look at and overwhelming - this means more product on a page but the actual pictures and writing are smaller so difficult to see. The general layout and fonts seem very basic and unimpressive this is like i would have expected the first ever app to look like and then to have improved to what we had before it seems backwards not forwards. Also why do i want a four hour delivery slot again this seems backwards I don’t want to have to wait in four hours not knowing when my shopping will turn up - an hour slot is much better. this again seems a backward step. Overall it has taken me 3 times as long to do my shopping and has just really annoyed me it has not been pleasant experience if this doesn’t improve then i will be looking at an alternative online shopping that is more user friendly like Waitrose. Also you used to have the offers broken down by meal deals, bundles etc now they are are just all listed and the meal deals seem to have disappeared which is very disappointing. Overall a waste of time developing this rubbish

Absolutely one star

Why have you changed the app the old one was so much better and nicer to look at. Everything is all massive now the text and photos i don't like it and no option to zoom out. Its like the asda app now all ugly and its really making me not want to do my food shop now which i enjoyed so much before why change ? You were fine before! you need to make this font smaller and food images so it fits all nice on the screen or at least have the option to zoom out and in and no more purple!? Its just looking at a white screen now its miserable and everything is merging into one thing when you look at it thats a real big design mistake please change it back to having the purple banner at the top as its hurting my eyes :(((((((((((((((((((( and I've got to use this now every week unless i go elsewhere . The app is so so so important as a consumer why i stopped shopping at tesco after they changed it and made it all white awful

Put me off ordering with Ocado

We used to prefer ordering from Ocado above other supermarkets, in spite of the higher prices, purely because the app and functionality used to be so much better than others. Since you forced us to migrate to a new app, you have lost that competitive advantage. I find searching for products infuriating! When I search for ‘nuts’ it brings up all the millions of items that contains nuts in the ingredients and then there is no way to filter for the category of product or the isle it would be in! I have to spend hours scrolling through a seemingly endless list of results that is mostly unrelated to what I had hoped to find. If I sort search results according to price, it still orders it by category too. So if I just want the cheapest white wine in the shop, I have to scroll down through every category to see what the cheapest item is in each category and so I basically have to read every price and item. It is exhausting, time consuming, confusing, frustrating and frankly off putting. We are now considering ordering our groceries from somewhere else.

Inferior app

Please can we have the old app back, there’s so much lost functionality! -The shopping basket is in a list view (4 items per page), rather than a grid view (e.g. 20 per page), this makes it hard to get an overview. - I no longer have a recipe binder to save the recipes I’ve bought ingredients for. So I’m not using the recipes anymore. - Offer on savings aren’t as clear - the ‘price per’ does not update live, nor does the item price and savings aren’t taken off the basket total until later on. - We used to be able to sort by average customer review and now we can’t - only by price. - The receipt is no longer in use-by date which was really very useful. - It’s no longer possible to easily see ‘similar’ items or items of the same brand, which makes it harder to find alternatives to items you usually buy.

Sooooo slow and no more dates in receipt!

Update: The worst part of this new app is that the receipts no longer sorts products by expiry date, one of the most useful features. It made meal planning so much simpler. It reduced accidental waste. Was told when I fed back that the dates are on each product, yes I know, but sitting down and noting down each date for all products for each shopping is clearly not as convenient as having it all in front of you. I don’t have time nor will I leave all my produce out for me to do this admin when it was all done for me before. Why did you remove this???
When searching for products, it takes a while to load, if you want to do a whole shop of this, it’s taking far too long. Might just have to use the browser version instead.

Forced to use new app

I have been forced to use this app even though I am in none of the postcodes mentioned in the description. It looks like a backward step compared to the old app. Instead of a clear list with one item per line the basket is represented with three pictures per line, just in case e.g. I don’t know what a lettuce looks like. When removing items from the basket the items shift in a horrid way that makes me feel sick.
Update: Had a response that there is a Grid View, that’s even worse, no text at all! Also patronisingly suggested that I needed help navigating the app.
Also it now becomes clear that the app is just a symptom of a bigger behind the scenes change. The receipts no longer come in advance. They used to be split into sections, Freezer, Fridge etc, and have use by dates. Now, nothing. Why go backwards?
The drivers have been late since the change, their systems are different as well.

Not an improvement

First issue is that I can no longer use the same app at two locations, i need to set up a new account, so at one home I have lost my favourites, my shopping history and most importantly access to my Delivery Pass which means I'm only getting half the value from my subscription.
In the app itself the UI seems to have been designed to be prettier and more image-led at the expense of usability. For example on my phone I can no longer view my shopping trolley as a list without pics, which means I see fewer items on screen at any one time. The ability to view New products seems to have been removed completely. And, for some unknown reason, I can no longer sort by Customer Rating, which is something I used all the time - when buying an unfamiliar product my first question is always "what do other people think is good?"
Given that I've lost half the utility of the app and my Delivery Pass, and continued range and stock availability issues, it's prompted me to look again at other online groceries. There are plenty of "try us" offers out there so I think I will...

Nightmare!

Forced to use this new app today. Didn’t get far! Tried to edit my order but when I got into the order, the total price had increased significantly. This was due to the products that I had bought in the flash sales being hiked to their original prices. It was not showing me items that I had bought in flash sales. So…gave up, cancelled edit and daren’t add anything else to order now until delivery. Will have to make a visit to local supermarket instead. What is going on? App was fine before and easy to track prices. I don’t mind change, but please be transparent and clear. I have also had a problem where I am trying to amend an order and another order total is displayed at the bottom of the page. I cannot access the yellow tab button at the bottom of the page as the wrong order total is covering it. I have no idea what is going on. I am using an iPad. This is all driving me mad. It takes so much time.

Bring back the old one, or at least give us the choice!

I don't like the new version. Some suggestions: 1) put back the button that allowed to empty the cart. Eliminating products one by one is inconvenient, especially when you have a long shopping list! 2) remove that horrible tab at the bottom of the screen: it serves no purpose and only takes away from the order view. If I want to see the order total, I just need the figure in the upper right corner. 3) put the order screen back the way it was before, with all the products side by side and visible in one screen. Scrolling through the whole list doesn't give you the ability to have the complete order at one glance. There are definitely other suggestions, if I come up with them I will update the review. For now only one star, also because I do not appreciate being forced to switch apps.
Edit 26/10 after developer answer.
Where are, in the app, the buttons you are talking about? I can’t see any “empty trolley” or “grid layout”. Please, avoid to answer if this means to make a joke. Give us respect.

Just awful!

What was wrong with the old app? It worked perfectly ok. But now I have been forced to use this new, but not improved, app. Plus the website has gone the same way. Doesn’t anyone actually test these new apps, or the website, before they are available to the public? It seems not. I have only been using the new app for five minutes, and I have already discovered problems. First of all, I am gluten free. On the old app, I went through a load of food items and favourited them, if they had no gluten in them. But now I have discovered that most of my favourite items are not marked as a favourite anymore! What happened to them? Now I have to find them all over again, and mark them as my favourites. Secondly, I used to search for gluten free items, then choose ‘New’ on the filter, to see if any new items were available. But now ‘New’ has disappeared from the filter option choices. Apart from the above, the app is really clunky to use, and I don’t like the layout. And I don’t know if I am imagining it, but less items seem to come up when you do a search for something. I used to get pages of items available, on the old app. There are probably a load of other problems with this new app, that I have discovered yet. I only have to look at the amount of one star reviews to see that I am not alone with having problems with it.

Please sort the app out!

Honestly… I really can’t be bothered to shop with Ocado anymore! The app is completely useless! Let me explain…
You go on to sort your weekly shopping out. You see promotions and you add them. It tells you that you’ve added the products in the promotion, but on the same page it tells you the promotion isn’t available, so you remove items in that promotion and during the checkout, it tells you there are incomplete offers in your basket! Yep, you’ve guessed it. It’s the offer that is advertised - yet no longer available.
Having to keep on checking which offers are active and which aren’t, it’s much easier (and cheaper) to take yourself off to the local supermarket. Oh… and due to this confusion with the offers Ocado credited my account, and yet I can’t find that credit anywhere. As it stands right now, I can’t think of a single reason to use Ocado again, and for those that manage the app, can you please sort out the offers so that people aren’t led to believe that they’re getting an offer that has expired and are paying full price to the products!

Not great

Got “forced” into this app today and after playing with it for a while I’ve emailed Ocado to see if it’s possible to go back to the normal one! Ocado’s amazing app is one of the three reasons I shop with Ocado twice per week, but with this new app not any more sadly!
Full of bugs (I couldn’t check out as button was covered by a summary overlay!), lists functionality has been killed (1. can’t edit the items in a list, 2. lists have been transitioned from normal app but quantities of items haven’t, 3. Can’t create a list from a shopping cart…), the book a slot calendar no longer shows the days I have a slot booked already, search is temperamental and doesn’t show items that are out of stock (so it seems like Ocado doesn’t carry them until you search out of an specific order…).
It’s essentially a mess and a big step down in functionality from normal app sadly.

Terrible!

Wow… first app review I’ve been compelled to write for years!
What happened?
All of the good features have been removed!
1) You can no longer sort by rating
2) Where have the food categories gone eg Chinese, Italian, Indian etc?
3) You can no longer filter by brand, only obscure dietary needs.
4) Worst of all, you used to be able to build up a top-up order before editing an order, and then quickly open and edit a pre-exiting order to add it, without losing basket items to the “suddenly out of stock black hole”.
You can no longer do this, and the orders stay separate.
This frustrated me so much that I cancelled the pre-existing order, as I couldn’t find the mental strength to find and add all those items again.
There were then I suitable delivery slots to add the new items to, so I just sacked the lot of it!
Congratulations, Ocado, £150 odd shopping you lost there.
5) Somehow the items are less clear, and you’re restricted to a list view only on your basket. I used to be able to see what I had at a glance.
Who the hell approved so, so many backwards steps?
I will it be using this again until it’s sorted.
The thought of trying to use this all with the stress of online Xmas food ordering as well chills me to the bone!!
I’d rather spread my business across other supermarkets, thank you… at least the app experience is easier!
