Best app out there

I’m in the UK and the barcode feature still worked incredibly well. The personalised system meant that I was able to loose just over 15kg for summer without loosing any strength and with the constant check up system you can adjust the rate at which you loose weight to whatever you want.

Big problem

I recently bought a year subscription for this app but i have now requested a refund through Apple due to a major fault.
For some reason, sometimes, some foods are not included in the daily totals. It often takes several attempts at deleting and adding again to get the food to register properly.
Yesterday this problem led me to overeat which is the exact opposite of why i am using it.
On the plus side, the watch app may just be the single best Apple watch app ever! You can tell a lot of work went into it. No other app lets you add food so quickly and easily.

Superior nutrition app

After using Myfitnesspal for 12 years I was skeptical to switch over, but after following Jeff Nippards programs and Recomp guide I took the switch after reading all the positive reviews and can easily say Macrofactor blows all competition out of the water, I can’t believe how accurate the coaching is! 5 Star definitely reccomend to anyone who is serious about their nutrition, health and training

Mr

Is great for tracking macros and calories with an enormous variety of products it tracks. Barcode works excellent for almost all products I’ve tried. One criticism and is a minor one, it’s for the vitamins and minerals, I personally I’m more concerned about macros but the information about these two on most products is zero to none and I would like to see an improvement in the future.

THE food tracking app

Honestly this is the best food tracking app there is. Yes it’s paid, but it’s very competitively priced, not to mention the features make it easy to log and track your macros and micros.

Intuitive and Smart

This is a fantastic app, it is constantly improving and well worth the price. Give it 30 days to learn your expenditure and it’ll do everything for you after that, takes all of the guess work out of cutting and bulking. It has an active Reddit where mods address issues and answer questions, and a section to ask for new features. I cannot recommend this enough.

US not the centre of the world!

The app is great, I like the UI (much better than my fitness pal) and I’m losing weight and hitting my protein goals. BUT…
There needs to be support for non American barcodes! Seems unfair that they advertise the scan function the way they do and charge as much as they do without having a suitable library worth of barcodes.
Takes away from the convenience completely and adds more effort having to log own nutrients etc etc.
I’ll keep the app because it’s working! But I’m not completely satisfied and my message is “Do better please”.

Not for me

Not good for bulking

I spent 2 months using the app, my goal was to gain weight. I’m very consistent with my macros + training even before i had this app. Yet the calorie goals i was given made me only gain weight at 50% of the pace i should have been gaining at. Despite seeing this the review feature offered no real solution. I love the lay out of the app, and its ease of use. But if it’s not pushing me towards my actual goal it’s all pointless. Hopefully it’s better for those trying to lose weight.

Wrongful charge of free trial.

I had subbed to the 7 day trial, cancelled it the day before the end of the trial and deleted my account because the app isn’t for me - still got charged £62.99 and they refuse to give me a refund. So now it’s a bank dispute and bla bla bla. It’s annoying because I use a free app which is the same concept, got curious & now Im paying the pay price. Literally. Personally I wouldn’t use an app with this kind of ownership, you never know where else they’ll try to take money illegally. So if you’re on the free trial, be careful because they will still charge you.

Amazing app - so worth it

I’ve been using the app for about 8 months now. It’s so easy to use and I find it brilliant as a meal planner as well as a tracking tool.
I love how customisable it is so you can show or hide metrics. The “adherence neutral” approach means it doesn’t trigger any food worries and I can track everything without feeling bad. It’s particularly brilliant for tracking protein if you’re trying to achieve lifting goals.
In the eight months I’ve been using it, I’ve lost 23lbs, hit my goal weight and continued to see progress with my lifts.
Maintenance mode is brilliant too. I wondered if I would continue to log after I hit goal but it’s so easy to do so that I carried on. The maintenance target range is excellent and I’ve been holding my weight steady for over a month.
This app has changed my life and my lifts. So worth the investment.

Cancelled within the first hour

The UI is horrible, doesn’t have a UK food library, and not worth the premium price.
I tried to set the app up and use it and the interface was so bad it didn’t even last an hour. Honestly the most confusing poorly designed app I have tried and not worth the premium price tag.
I didn’t even get past setting up three recipes in the library because of the pour design. Can only recommend to stay clear of this app. Wish I could give it zero stars.

Fantastic for tracking

I have tried many other apps before and had give up on dieting. MacroFactor has made it super easy to both cut and bulk. There is no adverts being showed in your face. There is a small fee for using the app but the price is more than fair for how helpful it is. I have set up most of the meals that I rotate between and have served them into the data base, this makes adding my food every day super simple! I use the app in the UK and the barcode scanner still works great recognising all of the different foods that I scan in. If there is a food that is not recognised the nutrition label scanner makes adding a new type of food really easy. The app makes seeing trends over time easy, this feature has helped me identify macronutrient that I have been missing out on. I have recommended this app to may friends already and have nothing but positives to say about it.

Excellent food tracking app

I used to use My Fitness Pal but I was unhappy with several aspects such poor interface, recipes/meals feature was clunky, basic tasks were unnecessary complex and sharing meals was a pain.
I tried MacroFactor to compare features and by day two I was sold. It has a really slick and intuitive interface. Well worth the subscription. The recipes feature is excellent and you can share meals over WhatsApp/text - which makes life so much easier when you are food prepping for two people. I find adding foods a breeze. Finally, I love the dashboard overview: macros, calories, goal progress and weight all in one place.
Would highly recommend

Disappointing

I was so eager to switch over from My Fitness PAL as seen and heard really great reviews however I experienced so many difficulties with finding basic foods (items at Nandos and other well known places) as well as the accuracy of macros.
I reached out 3times asking for support with no response… I have now unsubscribed as paying for an app I am essentially not using and the data appearing in this app is being pulled through from My Fitness Pal.
Sooo disappointed as I was really looking forwards to using this particularly as I am a huge fan of Greg Nuckols and Jeff Nippard.

Good but time consuming

I started the 1 week trial but couldn’t make it past 2 days.
The app is easy to use and is great at explaining things.
The only set back for me is that I’m from the UK and the food database for UK food when you search the food it doesn’t always come up.
You can manually add the food but it’s time consuming and I don’t want to pay for an app that takes a lot of work when dieting is hard enough.

Top notch

Moved over from my fitness pal and this app has been 10x better. Love how it’s dynamic and changes diet plan based on your updated weight and eating patterns to ensure you hit your goal.
Fully customisable as well; means you need to take 10 mins to sit down and familiarise yourself with it but 100% worth it. UK based and I’ve found the app to be fine for logging foods here (which is something I was worried about before).

Amazing

I’ve been using the app for a bit more than a week, and I’m already impressed by the quality. Version 1.5.2
2024-09-28

Good but

I found the food logging frustrating to say the least. All the foods are US based. On my first day half the foods are not listed and the ones that were had to be converted for logging. Eg protein powder comes with a scoop but search brings up portion size to .3 of a cup. Tesco frozen berries not listed.
I have been weight training and losing weight at a slow rate for the last 18 months and the start calorie allowance is over 400 calories higher which I know will put weight on

Best Nutrition App

I’ve used several nutrition apps to track my calories and nothing is more intuitive and effective than MacroFactor. Initially the database wasn’t great for foods in the UK but they have improved that significantly now and nearly everything I scan can be found or easily inserted with the new label maker function. The teams commitment to improving the app is also excellent, there’s constantly improvements and new features. Not only that but the BMR calculator that works out how many calories you need to eat to reach your goals is so much more effective than anything else I’ve ever used which helps you get results!

Easiest and most reliable tracking app

Having given up with other tracking apps due to poor and/or inaccurate UK databases, I was recommended MacroFactor. I am so plead with it! It’s the easiest, and most accurate and useful tracking app I’ve come across. Setting macros is easy (I do keto) and it’s so simple to track that I never skip a day. The choice of Coached/Collaborative/Manual is fab too. Thank you!

Great but fitness pal better

Purely for the lack of choice and well known brands especially if you’re from uk you will struggle to find your average things I’ve had to add so many foods it’s a joke, names show up different you for example you might type in chicken bites and it’ll come up with chicken breast, burgers etc but it’s actually really good for setting your progress to your goals but until they add more selection from uk I’ll be going back to fitness pal

Simply easy

Started using MacroFactor around a year and a half ago, haven’t looked back since.
Was I slightly put off about paying for the app? Yes, but, I am more than happy to pay for all the benefits that come with it. Adapted caloric intake tailored to me and my weight, which changes over time to adequately suit me.
No selling of data and no ads, I value my privacy and the transparency put forward by the app so this is nice to have.

Too laborious to input food & barcode scanner no good for UK users

I found the app too laborious to see it through for a full week, so I can’t comment on how good it is for its main purpose.
The main pain points are when adding my meals, I often cook with 10+ ingredients. I don’t have the time to fiddle with the search function to find the most similar ingredients each time and then do that 3x a day.
The other is the barcode scanner isn’t suited to European/UK users. Half of the things I wanted to scan weren’t recognised or identified as some random US food. At this point I gave up and ended my free trial.

Great app

Really intuitive app and the insights you get around nutrition are excellent. The food logging is seamless. I’m in the UK and there have been very few things not in the database, and if they are not, adding them takes a few seconds - you take a photo of the food nutrition label and it’s fairly automatic from there. Given it’s the same cost per month as MFP, I will be swapping subscriptions

I think the science behind the app is clever and I see benefits in the tracking. The visual design is very polished. Adding foods to the library and logging meals can be difficult and other apps do this better.
The app has strange usability and you will need to read the user manual closely to get efficient with logging and tracking. The food database is US centric - don’t expect to find much via barcodes if you’re in another country.

Sensational

That kind of sums it up for me.
I switched to MacroFactor recently from other apps after seeing a lot of satisfied customers in fitness forums I read.
I’m honestly quite blown away.
First up, the interface is extremely slick and is also customisable.
Finding foods is extremely easy - and I now enter things in a second or two that historically took quite a while.
Finally - the community engagement is fantastic. I had a couple of questions when I was starting out and these were answered in Reddit (thank you!).
It’s really good. Really really good.
Thanks!

Loving this app

I have used other food tracking apps and I have to say, this is definitely my favourite. I love the macros and love the recipes section. The barcode scanner works like lightning (I’ve used others previously and they don’t work well). There are lots of other features I like too, like the average calories, daily breakdown of of vitamin & minerals. All round great app and easy to use.

The Future of Fitness Tracking

As someone whose been diet tracking for over 7 years I can honestly say this is the best app I have ever used. Unlike MyFitness Pal, this app continues to innovate and improve whilst remaining simple.
Great UI, amazing level of customisation of goals and suggestions that are inline with current scientific evidence.
Would recommend

Lost 17kg 😁

I used this app a couple of years ago and it helped me lose 17kg in about a year. I regained 4kg after I stopped using the app, so I’ve started using it again to help me lose a few kilos before the summer.
It’s easy to use. It works well at scanning most food barcodes in the UK. If it doesn’t find the barcode, it can scan the food label to make it easy to add foods yourself. I highly recommend it for anyone trying to track calories and macros.

Poor UK food database

I love the look and the UI of the app, as well as the automatic correction of calories required to reach your end goal when paired with consistent weigh ins. However, almost everything that I scan is not recognised and requires me to manually input calories and macros of everything I eat. Something that may take a few seconds on the FREE version of MFP now takes a good few minutes and sometimes a calculator when portions aren’t exactly multiples of 100g. Potential to be a great app but I’m not sure it should be available in the UK or Europe until the food data base has more data. Il be jumping back across to the free version of MFP until then.

Loving MacroFactor

As someone who has yo-yo’d weight wise over the years and has been using on and off My Fitness Pal for the last 20 years, I never thought I’d switch over or pay for calorie counting. But I wanted to focus more on my macros and find something much more sustainable than what I’d previously been doing; which was log religiously then lose interest and stop for a while. My husband heard about it on a podcast and has been siding it since September last year and has lost weight with it and found it has really helped so I thought I’d give it a go too. It is so clever the amount of information it gives you and takes the emotional rollercoaster away from calorie counting with the trend weight being the most important factor. I’ve not been using it long but I love it so far and it’s definitely worth the money. I feel like I’ve not felt hungry once, definitely a result of more protein, I’ve not felt restricted and lost weight. I’m taking it week by week and a day at a time but I’m excited to be able to look back over a year and see how far I’ve come. Thank you 🙌🏻

It's a pass

It's a pass from me. If you usethis app for 10 years you will have paid £630, for what? An app tracking calories and suggesting a TDEE? Come on guys...
Interesting concept, and well designed however at this point one could have a million subscriptions on apps on their phone and iPads and what not. I understand this is a very profitable model for the devs, however I disagree with paying a subscription for an app, no matter how good it is.
Hope more people do the same so that devs start giving alternative and more fair options!

THIS is the definitive macro tracking app!

Honestly the most remarkable app I’ve ever used. This is the first time I’ve wanted to fork over my money before the free trial has even finished. I’ve been talking excitedly with people about this app, how easy it is to use, how clever and FAST it is. I love everything about it. THIS is the definitive macro tracking app!

Best nutrition tracker app

I absolutely love this app. It’s the best of its kind I’ve ever used. However, there are two minor things I dislike: 1. The app always opens on the dashboard, which is frustrating because the one thing you’ll be doing on a regular basis is log food, not look at the data; 2. When you move to the diary page, it always shows the top of the day instead of scrolling you down to the time of the day. I know if you just add an item in the search bar, it’ll add it to the current time, but it would useful to see what else has happened at that specific point in time or around it to maybe remind you if you’ve missed to add something.

All the best parts of food logging without the faff

Wow, I don’t usually leave reviews for apps, and I really didn’t think that there would be an app that could replace MyFitnessPal, however, this app takes away all of the trouble and stress from calorie counting.
It’s super easy to track your food, if you don’t know the exact food, you are having, the AI assist does a very good job in estimating the calories for your meal. Also, when you scan a barcode, the label reader built into the app tracks nutritional information very quickly.
I also love that this app really encourages you to stick with the calories, even if you do exercise, it doesn’t subtract them, and it makes for a far more balanced and consistent journey.
I have decided to buy an annual subscription, so I can support the developers in this app, and reaching my weight loss goals. I feel a lot better about counting my food calories and I would recommend anyone that’s trying to lose or gain weight to get this up immediately, because it’s incredibly versatile, and efficient. Even the small details, like copying a whole meal to another day, or later, in the day, everything has been thought through.

The only app that made me switch from MtFitnessPal

This is actually the best app on the market for nutrition. Very easy to log any food and great algorithms for weight tracking and loss. The only problem I have is that it doesn’t have feature for tracking your menstrual cycle which is very important for a woman.

Waste of money

I have a subscription to this service, but I'm unable to log in. When I attempt to log in, it seems to go into an endless loop. I've reached out about this issue before but didn't receive a response. I've been paying £63 per year for this service, yet I haven't been able to use the app effectively.
Previously, I had the app on my phone, but it couldn't find any foods when I tried to search or log them, even for well-known brands. It only allowed me to log items I had previously entered. In an attempt to resolve this issue, I deleted the app and reinstalled it, but the problem persisted. Now, I'm also encountering difficulties with logging in. This situation needs to be addressed, or I believe I should receive a refund.

Advanced nutritional science meets intuitive design!

Having tried a few different nutrition trackers, MacroFactor blew me away with its intuitive design. The app is simple to use but contains a treasure trove of nutritional science and statistics, if you enjoy that kind of stuff. It's easy to add recipes and new food items, though the existing food catalog is still growing.
What's most impressive is the Strategy tab, which helps you build a custom program for your personal nutrition goals in seconds. With the help of charts and figures, you can see exactly how your macros are broken down, and over the weeks and months the app responds to changes in your weight, and tweaks your program to optimize results.
The only downside is that it requires all of your food data in order to keep things on track; only partially logging a day's meals leads to inaccurate projections, so this app is really only for folks who don't mind logging everything.

Constant corrections

The app itself is great, but approximately 80% of the food you scan in, has previously been recorded incorrectly, so almost everything needs correcting. It only takes a minute, but still, tracking a meal might take 5 minutes instead of seconds like it would on another app. This is down to other users and not the app itself but it really is the apps biggest problem I’ve found so far. The quick search function is borderline unusable so don’t even bother
Also if you’re in the UK, some barcodes have USA counterparts that have different names, macros etc which makes it confusing.
It would be nice to be able to add actual pictures instead of emojis and permanently correct wrong macro information

Doesn’t actually track correctly

Looks all shiny and beautiful until you double check what you are tracking and it’s incorrect. I’ve reported macro and micro nutrients as incorrect several times and the response is “it’s down to nutritionists adding correct info”, “it’s down to the manufacturer to add the right info” and “you can track generic common items as branded items depend on the manufacturer” - which might be okay apart from MFP and Chronometer have no trouble reporting correct macro and micro nutrients on the same products and items.

Much better than MFP

I’m a long time user of MFP but have now completely switched over to this. It’s much better because it does not include any unnecessary rubbish, it just focuses on tracking macros and does it really well.
One feature I’d love to see though is a dashboard screen for the key micro nutrients (eg fibre, sugar and salt) so they can be monitored. Currently this is not possible, but the data is obviously tracked so hopefully wouldn’t be too hard to add.
Great app though and would definitely recommend

My Go-To For Calorie Tracking

Honestly just leaps and bounds better than MFP. It’s worth the money to pay for MacroFactor than use the free version of MFP. The developers and owners actually care about the app - easy to use and the food database isn’t clogged with inaccurate information. I like how it adjusts calorie expenditure each week based on weight loss/gain, too.
Whenever I need to cut, this is the app I come back to.

Best app on the market for fitness goals!

I couldn't have asked for a much better app, what also makes this app so great is you can tell the creators and editors put a lot of effort into tweaking the app in our best interests. I really hope they keep this up and it never changes the way things are going! Its only going to get better if they keep this up :)

Really impressed with the app - have switched from MyFitnessPal

As a lifelong MyFitnessPal user (dipping in and out over the years) I never expected to switch over, but this is by far the best decision I’ve made. As someone who goes through periods of being both very active and inactive this is the best solution I could possibly think of to help adjust my calorie goals/expenditure, and so much more accurate than guessing at my activity level.
It is also significantly better for my mental health when dieting as it removes the whole “maybe I should be eating less than this, maybe I’m not as burning as many calories as I think I am” stress. This is absolutely fantastic as someone who has been overly restrictive in the past.
It was a slightly difficult switch over as the app is a little bit less intuitive, especially for those of us (me) who are not really interested in macros at the moment and are just calorie tracking - especially on the main dashboard. All of the additional features made it seem a bit daunting at first compared to MyFitnessPal but now that I have used it for a few days I have already got the hang of tracking and will definitely be switching over completely. It also seems like there are a lot of ongoing developments and updates happening so I am really excited to see the app evolve.

An engaging app for tracking food

It’s early days for me as I’ve only been using the app for a couple of weeks. So far I’m enjoying using it much more than MFP as I find it’s engaging me much more. So it’s easier to track as I know what the data is going to be used for. And it’s reassuring to know that there’s a huge knowledge base driving it. I feel I can trust the app and trust the people behind it to help me get to my goal. Let’s see if I’m right!

Ahead of the curve

I don’t usually write reviews but I felt with Macro Factor I had to give credit where credit is due. With recent updates from myfitnesspal it made me want to look elsewhere. MacroFactor does everything myfitnesspal does 100X better and the thing that stands out for me is the algorithm that will help you find your maintenance and help you achieve you fitness goals. It’s definitely helped me on my cut and I won’t be going back. Go Science!

Non-comparable to My Fitness Pal

This app is amazing and I’m only in my free trial. I was reluctant to try a new app as I have tried many that didn’t come close to MFP for me. This however, has so many amazing features and is way better in helping me track my macros rather than seeing just the calories. It has given me a healthier view on eating because although trying to stay in my calories I am also making my sure to get my macros up to where they need to be. MacroFactor have actually made it quite enjoyable to track my food rather than a chore!! 5/5

An app that will actually get you to your goals

MacroFactor is a truly refreshing approach to fitness and nutrition tracking.
A beautiful yet well designed user interface that makes the experience of using the app effortless. Backed by science based algorithms to actually understand what changes are going on with your body, then adjusting its suggestions to help you reach your goals.
I’ve been using the app for a few months now and it has really helped with my progress tracking and has finally got me into the habit of consistently logging my food accurately.
The only issue I’ve ever had with the app is that very occasionally a food I scan returns something completely different. Though this is usually for those more obscure items.
Worth every penny in my book.

Works perfectly in UK

Have been using the app for around a month, it’s fantastic and a really clever format with the algorithm that’s updating your calories weekly based upon your food logging and weigh ins. Also, I shop in all the usual places like lidl and aldi, sainsburys etc and the barcode scanner works just fine. There is the odd occasion that the total calories are wrong for an individual item, but that is absolutely no different than MyFitnessPal which is the biggest (but not best now) calorie tracker out there. Well worth the money.

Intuitive, clean design, useful metrics

Good intuitive clean design and genuinely useful metrics tracking both scale and trend weight. Big plus for me given historic problems with food is the neutrality of the tracking ( no going into the ‘red’ or being chided for ‘undereating’); the coaching algorithm being based on your actual intake; and the data driven habit/practice based ethos. Nice job!

Smashing

Main complaint I see is from people saying that they have to put in a lot of manual entries, I stay in the uk and the barcode scanner has worked every single time for me, maybe depends where you shop if it’s a problem or not.
App is super intuitive where on other apps I’ve wanted to change or edit something and it’s take multiple steps with this it’s super quick to just swipe and edit

A step up from the competition

This app has made a huge step forward from the likes of myfitnesspal. It is fantastic to be able to see averages over a week, average calorie surplus/deficit from tdee not just from your “goal”. Since the update to the food database I haven’t found many items are missing which as a UK user is very refreshing as I found MFP often lacking or having the US version of foods with generally greater calories.
My suggestion to improve it would be to add a “how are you feeling today” button allowing you to include things like sleep, tiredness/soreness, energy levels so that the macro adjustments can take into account the human side of nutrition. For example I found that I (as a 100kg fairly muscular late 20s male on a cut) was pushed down to 1500 calories to try to keep hitting the goal weight loss. Taking charge and increasing my calories back to 2100 has restarted my weight loss and improved the quality of my training.

Outstanding Coaching App

I’m having loads of fun with this app. The coaching side of it takes the stress out of dieting and all the data you have to analyse is really motivating. Plus you have a really supportive community to interact with on Facebook. The food database isn’t the best in the UK, but don’t let that put you off. The app can pull your data from whatever food tracker you use so you can still use the coaching functions the app offers. The team behind this app is some of the smartest people at what they do and have big plans for this app.

Really clean app to use

Currently on the 2 week trial period, however this app has caught my fitness pal napping.
Really clean dashboard with an interesting use of metrics to help suggest and adjust your food consumption. I like the way meals can group together and time of day is shown too.
Sadly though, as a UK user, quite a few foods that have scanned and been found in other apps have not been found in this one. So more manual entries. Also, some foods have completely wrong information and its not clear how/if I can edit entries in the main database?
