Description

NATURE IS FOR EVERYONE
With Birda, anyone can get outside, identify and record the birds they see, and share them with a fun and inclusive community. Modern life pushes us away from nature. Start pushing back.
Join challenges and make new friends. Feel less stressed. Don’t know a bird? Use the community as a HI (Human Intelligence) bird identifier - grow your birdwatching knowledge faster. Help protect nature by turning birding into a fun adventure. All with the help of a free bird app. Cool, right?
Birda connects the global community of birders irrespective of how they already record their sightings! Simply sync or import your records from eBird, Merlin Bird ID, Birdtrack, Birdlasser, and more to get started.
WHO IS BIRDA FOR?
Birda is for anyone curious about nature and birds, no matter your level of knowledge or previous experience. We want to help you enjoy birds, so you are inspired to fight to protect them. Regardless of how you spell birdwatching (or bird watching) if you like fun & nature, Birda is for you!
Have fun while using your smartphone as a powerful tool to help conservationists protect a myriad of bird species. To get started:
1. Download Birda, it’s free!
2. Head out, head up.
3. Log your bird sightings - one at a time or multiple sightings as part of a birding session.
YOU CAN ALSO:
• Find birding locations & the bird species that occur there
• Use the field guide to identify what you have seen
• Set and track your personal birding goals
• Get species identification suggestions from the Birda community
• Unlock achievement badges
• Take part in local and international challenges
• Build up your life lists, by time and location
• See what friends, family, or other users have spotted
• Log sightings and sessions even when you’re offline
• Choose from multiple taxonomies (IOC, Clements & Birdlife HBW)
IMPORTS & EXPORTS
If you are coming from another platform, then there is no better way to get started than to import your records to Birda. We currently support imports from eBird, Merlin Bird ID, Birdtrack and Birdlasser - with support for iNaturalist, and more coming soon. If you want to move your records to another platform, you are free to export all of your sightings from Birda.
LIFE LISTS
Birda automatically creates life lists of all the birds you've imported or recorded on Birda. Birda automatically generates sub-level lists based on time and geographic location. For example, you can see all your bird ticks for the last month or year as well as your bird ticks for your home and patch lists. We’ll also start automatically generating bird life lists for regions, countries, states/provinces and nature reserves in the near future.
TAXONOMY
We understand that taxonomy can be complicated! This is especially true when people are trying to compare species across taxonomic authorities and where a global community is using common names in multiple languages. It is for this reason that we built a cutting-edge solution to simplify taxonomy for our users. Our taxonomic engine makes taxonomy seamless for the user, allowing them to view each other’s sightings in their taxonomy of choice, irrespective of what taxonomy is being used by other users.
PRIVACY
You can choose to create a 400m privacy zone around your address to automatically hide the location of any sightings you post in your garden. This privacy feature prevents you from inadvertently disclosing your home address to the public when logging sightings around your home. Setup your home location and Birda will also automatically create Home Lists and Patch lists for all the sightings you post within your Home List and Patch List boundaries.
You have control over what you share with others on Birda. Through your Location Privacy Settings, you can control who sees the exact location of the sightings you post on Birda. If you hide exact locations, Birda shows a vague sighting area and no location pins.

Easy and helpful App for bird watchers

I recently downloaded the Birda App and find it so useful to record the birds that my wife and I see near our home and when we go out for bird and nature watching walks.
I am already addicted to it. A whole community of novice and expert worldwide birders share sightings and attach photos. Help is available to identify birds.
Adds a lot to our enjoyment of this hobby. Go on and try it.

Fantastic app

This is a really lovely app, for everyone interested in birds - from newbies to old hands. There is a very friendly feel to the community and you will genuinely learn a lot as you record your sightings and photos. There are lots of badges and competitions to keep you engaged, and a host of really useful features.

Just what birding needs

We need more fun in birding, for years it has had a reputation for being up tight and stuffy and only perused by retirees and anoraks.
Birda helps change that perception and firmly brings birding into the 21st century! Fun, interactive while still contributing to science and conservation. If you aren’t on it, why not??

Addicting and makes heading outside more fun

It’s safe to say I’ve become somewhat addicted to this app since downloading it. I’ve often described it as Pokémon Go but for wildlife you can actually see for real with your own eyes! For the past year I’ve been on my journey to becoming a “birder” and this app has helped me to develop my knowledge and ID skills so much. The regular community challenges and achievement badges are a great way to gamify the birdwatching experience and I’ve found myself constantly opening when I’m out for a walk. I really think birding can be for everyone and this is a great way to get in to it and meet fellow bird nerds and enthusiasts

Learning Birding with Birda

I’m relatively new to birding as a hobby, and Birda is a great way to keep track off all the species I see. I’m still working on my ID skills, but the app is great for figuring out potential species, and the online community is so friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend Birda to both early and serious birders! 🐦

A friendly place

I love using the bird app, I have a pretty good knowledge of birds. But I do have some gaps in it, so it’s nice to have a safe space to check on a sighting to confirm the species. It’s really enjoyable and I love the badges you can collect. It’s like a real life Pokémon go.

So far all good

Only been using the app a couple of days, but so far all is positive. Sometimes I’ve found it difficult to find my posts in the feed, that was particularly noticeable when I asked for help to identify a bird, though any replies do turn up in your notifications, which don’t update immediately, if you close the app an open it again they refresh, possibly I haven’t found a refresh option when the app is open? So far I would recommend the app.

Great app 👍🏻

This is such a fantastic app. Regardless of whether you’re a keen birder, or just someone with a mild interest, there is something here for everyone. You can identify birds you spot in the wild, record your sightings of them and interact with others in the community to see what they have spotted. There are many monthly challenges which encourage you to spend more time outside and encourage both physical and mental health benefits. They continually seem to be adding great new features too! 👍🏻

Enjoyable but room for improvement

Enjoyable app with a positive, supportive community. I like the gamification with badges, challenges, and goals. Improvements that could be made include an ability to add a session without having to be live- a Birda session longer than ~30min depletes my battery, plus there are chunks of my country that don’t have reliable phone signal. The search function needs to be improved as it is only really useful if you already know the name of the bird. Would be good if the birds could be filtered or sorted in some way. Even basic categories like being able to search for “raptors” or “waders” etc.
However, I’m enjoying Birda! And looking forward to see how the app continues to develop.

Great app that needs a few tweaks

Been using this for about a year now and it’s fab with a great community. There’s a couple of functionality things that could be improved for me; when entering birds in a birding session it would be great if you could select the number of birds before you add the sighting as you currently have to back into the sighting after it has been added to edit the number. And, again when in a birding session, when you search for a species it would be great if the search dialogue box cleared after you add the species you searched for as a sighting as currently you have to manually delete your last search before you start a new one. Otherwise I love it.

Great app for beginner twitchers!

I’ve had a passion of photographing birds for a long time now but have only just gotten into proper birdwatching, and this app is brilliant for those just getting started.
There is a great sense of community among users and the app is very easy to use and professional.
There is one feature id love to be added, a pronunciation feature, so you can know how to pronounce the more difficult bird names.

Fantastic app - love it!

Love this app and have used it almost daily. Lots of species information and easy to use. Love seeing birds spotted by other users in the UK and worldwide.
Things I would tweak to make use a tad easier for multiple recordings - in the place tab - be able to highlight, copy and paste the area rather than repeat typing.
Go back to being able to put the photo in first - so you don’t have to search through hundreds of photos - or even better, share to app directly from your photo album, then add the details.
Also be able to add multiple photos at once. Other than that - perfect :-)

My only dislike.

I don’t like the icons next to species on my lists. It causes it to have issues loading the whole list.
Mostly though I just preferred the previous aesthetic where the names were more tightly packed together.

Great App for Recording Bird Sightings

This is a fantastic app, blending the good elements of social media with the fun of bird watching.
The good:
- App allows you to upload pictures from bird watching sessions so that they can be shared with the community.
- Great to record bird sightings. I know that if I had a book for this I would always forget or lose it.
- The challenges you can join are good, encouraging you to get out birding.
- You can see local sightings, which is really helpful.
The ‘could be improved’:
- You can’t record more than one bird if you are just entering a sighting. Sometimes I see a few on the bird feeder and would like to add multiple species and numbers of each species.
- When you are recording a session, when you record a bird species you can’t enter more than one. You have to go back in and enter the number.
- When you record a session, the map can be a little all over the place. Sometimes it will record me on the wrong side of the river etc.
- Advertise this app more. Would be great to have more members join up!
Overall though, very good app and I will continue to use!

Amazing

A wonderful app - for someone new to birding I’ve found this app absolutely invaluable. Easy to log and keep track of sightings. Lots of helpful and interesting information for each species.
For those unidentified sightings there’s plenty of friendly help (and no judgement).
The challenges offer an extra dimension, giving me that extra shove to get out birding on those days where I may not be feeling it so much. My only regret is that I didn’t discover Birda sooner.

Great bird app just needs to be advertised more

Great app so far been using it two days in a row and had no problems, the only thing I would recommend is multiple spices reporting instead of singular, this would be helpful for the garden birds and bird such as pigeons and crows that often are found together. ☺️also I would recommend allowing people to reply directly to messages, this would make it easier to have conversations about a unidentified bird.
Other than that amazing it’s the best app I have found for bird watching and easy to use and understand. :)
Hope this helps 😊

Wonderful App

Birda is my go to app for keeping records of my bird sightings and sessions.
It has fantastic information which is great at aiding identification.
With all the updates that are coming in the new year, this app is something special.
The only issue I have is when carrying out long sessions the app can become very slow and unresponsive when selecting species for the list. If this was resolved this would be a totally perfect product.

Birda: Birding Made Better

What an absolute diamond of an app. This is a must to keep a diary of your sightings. I am not a professional bird watcher just a standard set of binoculars. The community is friendly and welcoming and you have the ability to follow other like minded people and see where they have seen their sightings. I would totally recommend this app to anybody to wants to keep a list of birds they have seen in a simple easy to use and quite intuitive app. Can’t recommend it enough.

Great idea, but very limited finctionality

I lIke the idea, log your bird sightings, share with other people. Its a good concept and fairly well delivered.
The problem is the connecting to others is not very good. I would like to view and connect to people local to me for instance but there is no way to filter out anyone or anything....at all.
My feed just seems to be random, people in south africa? I dont want that, they are several thousand miles from me. I guess i dont get a choice though. Why not offer the option to be notified when someone near you logs a new bird, or search for other users local to you. You would have people flocking (pun intended) to this platform if you did this.
Let the app users build real communities. There is no community in this app, it is individuals logging bird sighting across the world and you can follow some of them.

Online nature community hub & bird list organiser

A great app which allows birders (or Birda’s 😉) from around the world to share their sightings. I love being able to see what birding says out my friends around the Uk are having and how they’re getting on with their life and year list. Also a great way to brag to my friends
I’ve found it a great way to organise my lists as they’re updated automatically once I complete a session. Looking forward to boosting my house list since moving in whilst keeping my house location private thanks to Birda hiding my location.
Would really recommend it to anyone regardless of skill level. With the “unknown bird” feature the community can rally together and help with identification and pointers for next time, speeding up any beginners confidence.

Seems good

The app so far seems to be quite good, but I wish there was a way to either search for species you may be interested in and have some information about said bird including habitat and characteristics, and a way of seeing what people have been spotting in your local area, it would be nice to know what’s on your doorstep or close by, and what other fellow birdwatchers have had the luck of seeing. Thanks.

Great app for learning Birds

I’ve been using the app for a couple of months and love it. Great for sharing individual bird sightings or whole lists of things you’ve seen, with the brilliant option to upload a picture (doesn’t have to be a good one. This lovely community don’t mind!).
If you don’t know what something is you can say so and others will help you to identify it.
Someone said it’s like a real life Pokémon Go for birds. They’re not far off! It’s something that the family can do that gets you out and about. Well worth downloading no matter your age.
Better, easier to use and more inclusive than similar apps in my opinion too. Has some great bird listing features too. I definitely recommend downloading whether you are a beginner or a seasoned birder.

No information on birds

The app is just a Facebook for show off your sightings and to ‘follow’ people creepily …
There isn’t any information on species, identification, rarity, seasonality.
If you want to only be able to record your birding as a means to create content this is the app for you.
Not for nature lovers, it’s for influencers and social media addicts who can’t enjoy anything in life without being able to put it on the internet for ‘likes’.

Hopeful that this app could be the one 🤞

Nice concept but not so well designed for the ‘lazy birder’.
I really like the look and design of the app but it’s missing some features that make me hesitate to switch over from the current sighting recording app I use.
Firstly, I’d love the option to be able to log a session after the fact, especially historical sessions I’ve recorded over the years. I wouldn’t mind having to manually log my old sightings but need the option to choose the date, time and location and add multiple species not just one off incidental sightings of individual birds.
Secondly it would be great if you could omit the exact time of a sighting (just select the date, have an option for ‘unknown time’ or perhaps even just AM or PM?). Again this issue is mostly from wanting to add historical sightings when I didn’t used to record times but I feel this could benefit more casual birders :)

Great presentation but missing some desirable features

I love the style of the app and it’s easy to use. Would like to of seen a way of checking recent local sightings as I don’t particularly see much interest in sightings hundreds of worlds away. There’s also no map, which for me feels strange when there is one on other bird ID maps.
