Disappointing loyalty system

Lost all my loyalty points when the app changed. Now the new loyalty QR is unrecognised in store, order on the app and no points added to reflect the order

Not really useful

Doesn’t really work to place orders and it’s rare that my QR code is recognised at my usual location near my office in London. Also, no explanation anywhere as to what reward points mean, how to redeem them, validity, etc. I’m not sure why it’s even needed

Worst update

updated the app and had to email to get my rewards transferred over. on top of this, it still doesn’t allow me to actually use them it just says i have 4 rewards. also cannot link my student account again - the email just doesn’t send. tried emailing for help and it all seems to be pretty useless now - not sure what happened but it’s a shame because this USED to be my favourite coffee chain.

Very poor app

My loyalty points don’t accrue and contacting support has been useless - even sent a video recording showing them and they’re slow to respond or claim they fixed it when they haven’t. Coffee is decent even if a bit pricey but whoever made this app should be fired - should be so simple but somehow they managed to display the best of amateur hour technology.

Why change a perfectly working app?

Why change it with the update? Most of us have not only lost our loyalty points but we’re already very happy with the previous app. If this is a way for you to justify to keep a team of designers, developers and product people on the team, well… you’re losing customers.

Update

I updated the app and luckily I got all my previous loyalty points. However my problem is I can’t register for student discount, I tried many times and it doesn’t work, it asks me to input my student email and then nothing happens, it’s the same student email I used in the previous version. Also, cant get any rewards I try buy selecting the reward but nothing happens. Just seem the new update doesn’t respond to the interactions. Please help me solve this I don’t want to go back to Starbucks.

App update is infinitely worse

Since the update this app is now the worst coffee shop app on my phone (I have four others). Taking away the feature to pay from the app is frustrating. I also earned a free drink and the instructions said to click it and go through to order but clicking rewards does absolutely nothing and now I won’t be able to use it before it expires. Not sure why you “improved” something that was working great already.

Issues

I have had nothing but issues since the launch of the new app, more so than the older app where it was occasional. Every time I go in store and log in and select my drink and select my voucher for a free drink, the system fails to apply the voucher and continues to charge. The store manager at Elizabeth Street, London, has been extremely helpful and tried to assist on several occasions and said that he will also report the issue.

Lost all my points I wracked up since update!

I was prompted to create an account, but when I did so, I lost all my points that I had saved!! I don’t get paid until later this week, so was hoping to use some of my points towards my purchase today. Very disappointed.

Lost features

I too had issues with logging in after the update, and no response from support. I decided to just create a new account, luckily my mobile number was recognised as being associated with a previous account and I was given the option to link the new account with the old. This brought all my points over to the new account, which is great.
My biggest gripe is the lack of Apple Wallet support in the new update, this made life so much easier, now I have to find and open the app before needing to claim loyalty points. Please bring it back.

Vouchers lost in update

I lost vouchers that I bought in the app before the update. Customer service hasn’t replied to my email other than an automated message. The very least they could have done was to remove the option to buy vouchers in the run up to the app update.

It seems this app has had a revamp / takeover, and now seems much better. Fantastic UX, easy to use and earn loyalty points via a QR code.

Can’t redeem points

I went to a branch today to redeem points. I was told there’s actually no way to redeem the points! There’s an issue with the app which is being looked into apparently. It seems this is an issue that has been ongoing for a while. Obviously it’s frustrating to collect points to find out that they’re useless. No timeline for the fix.

Lost points through update

This is the second time the app has asked me to create a brand new account after an update. I don’t want to do this until Black Sheep can confirm my points will be transferred back - however there is no contact email/support anyway. So so poor. The coffee is also now outrageously expensive.

No thought to useability

The old app took 5/6 taps to order coffee at my regular store.
This takes 15 taps from opening the app to placing an order. It’s no longer convenient to order using the app.
It’s 2023, good design and UX in mobile apps is well established.
I don’t understand how you missed the mark so much.
This is a poor app, if you can even call it that. It’s just a convoluted mobile website loaded in a web view.

Terrible upgrade

Used to be a daily customer. The new app has created a huge amount of ordering friction over the past 2 weeks for what should be a 20 second process. Complicated UX. Loyalty points weren’t transferred and are impossible to use. App regularly broke down. Prices keep increasing. Will be going to alternative coffee shops from now on unless the old app capabilities are quickly restored

Revamped your entire application for no reason

1) You’ve completely removed my student benefit.
2) You’ve revamped the perfectly easy to use app to something that is complicated for no reason.
3) The application is very pretentious when it wants to work or not… pre ordering was the only benefit… you’ve managed to make that difficult aswell. Well done.

Latest update is a shambles.

Points aren’t transferred instantly after linking your previous account which is bizarre. Got my points after a few days but lost 2 coffee vouchers in the transfer. Never had a loyalty programme do that before.
The new rewards are unclear. No idea what you can get when. Or even how points are awarded. I got the same points for a single coffee purchase, as a purchase later with 2 coffees and a muffin. What is the points system? No explanation anywhere.
There’s no help or FAQ section. Worst of all, nowhere in the app does it tell you how to contact the company for feedback. Basic app design.
The settings are just about advertising, I can’t even change the name I want to be referred to as. It shows my full name every time. Not preferred. Can’t update email or anything.
At least the baristas make great coffee still. But this app went from helpful to I don’t know what in a single update on 25/07/2023.

RUBBISH - all previous loyalty lost & now unable to collect new points

App was automatically upgraded to a new version.
Had to setup a completely new account to even access the new app.
I was told all of my loyalty points from the old app would be transferred automatically.
So far after 24 hours I cannot see any of my previous loyalty points and I cannot see new rewards scheme or collect any points.
On the previous app I could link a payment card and pay direct from the app but you have removed this feature.
The in store order process using the touch screens is now impossible to navigate.
There are many different coffee shops in central London and you have just removed one of the main differentiators from your competitors.
I used to like the old app and your coffee but you have made the ordering process so complicated and removed any loyalty for long term customers
I will be switching to your competitors going forward

What a major step back from a HX perspective. The new app is rubbish and has lost a lot of features, what’s happened to being able to link payment to your account for one scan checkout?
Take a serious look at how to build native Apps the right way as this is an example of how not to build something.

Revamp of app and in store POS terrible. Loyalty points not carried over to new app. No ability to pay and do loyalty in on go. No idea how loyalty points can be used. Nk idea how many you need to get a free coffee.
In stir POS "upgrade" also awful. Takes much longer to order a coffee in the morning.
Think about more of a use centred design approach to your design.

Crap

Just created a new account to sign up to the rewards scheme so I have lost all of my old points and vouchers, surely it would have made sense for them to have been carried over? I also referred a friend twice which you are meant to receive a free drinks voucher from and 3000 points onto their account, but none of the vouchers nor points have come through. I usually like Black Sheep for the student discount and self-service but this has completely put me off. The old app was much better.

I tried sending my voucher to a friend, and this didn’t work. Why have the functionality and brand it as “Gift 3 coffees” when you can’t make a simple transfer work? Support were utterly useless too.

But went into the store yesterday. Put my order in on line and was madly waving my app at the screen to register and pay. Nothing. After 4 attempts I went to the counter. They said the app had been removed and there would be a new one at the end of July. WHY get rid of this before a new one is ready, and why scrap this app so customers have to reapply from scratch. I’ve lost 7000 points but found a different coffee shop that actually wanted my custom

Poor app

Doesn’t recognise any stores in Aberdeen despite me sitting inside the store itself. The tablets won’t read the app barcode and says my member number doesn’t exist when typed in manually. No use having an app that basically does nothing

Loyalty Points

I tried to use 5000 loyalty points and the app claimed it was in my wallet. When I wen to pay, there was no voucher and it claimed that I had used 5000 points for a freebie.
I found this a bit ridiculous and paid for my coffee and no sign of the free coffee voucher and the store can’t do anything.

A very flawed system - do not buy gift vouchers!

This system is very complicated and ultimately leaves the customer short. I was bought a gift voucher for Christmas which is converted into points in this app. The points are limited to be spent on particular items, and these items are never worth the same value of the points. You end up spending more for less!

Camera scanning face for stamp

I felt really awkward when collecting my loyalty stamp this morning via the app and in store machines.
The camera came up showing my face. It was a shock and I just felt quite disturbed by the fact everything is as if we have little privacy now.
(It was better when the bottom of the screen scanned the app.)
The old way of ordering with staff and having a friendly face to greet us was great, so this option would be good too. They are a bit like robots making coffee with no conversation now.
I understand we need to move with the times, but let’s remember we are human.
Would go elsewhere if there was another sit down coffee shop close by.

Terribly inconvenient

Black Sheep’s loyalty program works terribly. You have to tell them you have the app before you order, if you forget they will have to cancel the order and start over to give you the credit. No comment on how much you have to spend to get a free drink. Also, why are we still using plastic lids? Switch to plant lids, you can surely afford it with these prices.

App fails

App deleted now.
Too much hassle and coffee is too expensive.
App did not let me use vouchers, order did not go through, staff could not help with any of the problem, voucher for which i paid £10 disappeared. I paid £13 for this and left with nothing.
After complaint refunded 3 vouchers for £10 (nothing mentioned about £3 for cake). Tried using again and same problem at the till. Vouchers disappeared, this time we had 2 coffees but all 3 vouchers used 🤷🏻‍♀️ poor girl who served couldn’t understand what’s happening and what to do. Definitely problem with the app.

Confusing and intermittent

Old app was way better to use. This one doesn’t work at the stores I go to half the time, it doesn’t say when things are unavailable but lets you pay for them and it’s really unintuitive for things like checking in to get the points if you’re ordering in store.

App is Ok. There is a tendency to mark the order complete then you arriving and waiting ten mins for your coffee which can be frustrating. Doesn’t actually speed anything up pre ordering and new app is worst then the old. Reflected by the influx of recent bad ratings.

Return PREORDER feature please!

I am usually all up for innovation, but this app is definitely a huge step back compared to previous app blacksheep coffee has been using. Design is ok, apart from some small ridiculous things, like successful confirmation style is *red* colored. I mean really, have you ever seen a red tick that’s supposed to say “all good”?
Also impossible to use apple pay which makes you link your card…
And whats the worst thing there is no functionality to preorder in advance. Its year 2022 now, almost every other major coffee chain has this feature now. Who wants to stay in queue when you can just choose time and order… this is essential, especially in business districts like city/canary wharf where time costs a lot!
