Too expensive!

Far too expensive (Adobe-level) subscription pricing, which is a shame, as this otherwise well-made app will price itself out of existence. (Is it a mistake? Difficult to climb down now, I suppose.) No saved history either, which is odd. Oh well. There’ll be others.

Frustrating

I upgraded to a paid version (MacWhisper, which I think now was a mistake) as the unpaid version, recording a meeting (not directly, but from the computer sound) came out partially in Chinese. However, the paid for version is not much better, as the transcription comes out as a solid lump, no paragraphs, little punctuation and I as the personal pronoun comes out in lower case. It takes hours to edit and so is not worth it. The help facility does not seem to work. It is better if you can drop a file on it. Won’t be renewing my subs.

Very Poor! Missing too many sentences 極差！少了很多句子

The money has been completed! I created two videos, and the Chinese subtitles are completely unsatisfactory. Not only are there typos, but many sentences are missing from the subtitles. Can I receive a refund? 錢已比了！但做了兩條影片，中文字幕完全不能接受，不止錯字，漏了很多句子沒有在字幕內，請問可否退款？

Essential for work and education

This is the best but of software I have ever bought. I use it both for work meetings, and also when listening to lectures on my distance learning MBA.

It has saved me so much time, I would not be able to manage without it.

I just wish it could deal with audit files longer than 1 hr.

Doesn't work well enough for the cost

I paid an annual fee for the ordinary version, but this doesn't really work. Most of the missing features are available in the "pro" version over double the price. This version still doesn't seperate speach into groups by speaker, which in my view is pretty essential if you want to produce meeting trascripts

Sorry but no...

Bought pro version for my work. I'm a filmmaker, I've generated a clean dialogue track (50 mins), and it failed to do srt in English. Very disappointed. Used large v3 model.

Useful transcription

My favourite dictation and transcription software no longer work on my new Macbook Pro M3. The Apple dictation software is almost as good but does not allow transcription. I just used the free Whisper software and an old Philips Voice Tracer dictaphone to record a 30 minute Zoom call - two people, one of whom speaks English as a second language. The transcription took approximately 1 minute and will be easy to correct (mispelt some foreign names). I have bought the lifetime subscription so that I can export into Word documents.

Now a crucial part of my workflow

I love this app! I can transcribe batch files, and with Metal support it works ridiculously fast even on my M2 MacBook Air. I would like to see some integration with GPT4 or Claude2, so I can run prompts on batch documents.

Slow

I'm wondering if paying for this app was worth it. I recorded a short item that I wanted to include in a newsletter. I wrote the section myself before the app displayed any text.

At this point, I'm unlikely to recommend this to anyone looking for transcription software.

Does not automatically detect 2 different speakers. What is the Ai in this?

Other free services can do this. any way to auto detect different voices will help.

We can add speakers and mnaually add them to segments Ai should then be able to continue doing that

I cannot believe the speed and accuracy of this App in transcribing interviews I carried out.

Very helpful app

On starting, I failed to download the correct 'model' as it is called without which you can't select the files to transcribe. Once I got that right I have found this really, really helpful. My iMac M1 is not provided with enough memory to run the most accurate but slower transcription (!) but in fact one of the faster ones is perfect for what I want. In the settings there is a Find and Replace where you can supposedly train the app to transcribe particular words but I am not sure how well it works yet. The app could be improved but the Pro version is a reasonable price for unlimited access. I'm not even sure how much one would need the Pro version, and anyway you have a week to check it out first. This has saved me many, many hnours to hard typing!

It's a fantastic start, but...

The times I've used it so far, it's been buggy. I'm yet to be able to get it do a proper search / replace and the really key feature of putting names to blocks of texts I can't find a way to get working. I don't mind any of these things if I can get in touch with the devs but reaching out so far hasn't had any results.

The fact that it picks up on non-vocal elements is really useful in the environment I'm in: dogs barking, sigh, coughing, singing, wind blowing and even 'trumpet sounding'. It's the only time I've ever seen this and not even Otter was able to do that at the last iteration. If I could see evidence of the devs committing to it with a proper website (rather than just contacting dead air via Twitter), & new the bugs would be ironed out I'd invest in the pro version in a flash as would many of my colleagues.

Verdict: a great start but please build out the support & fix the bugs.

Thank you for a brilliant app!

Does what paid-for website services do, but for free! (Unless you upgrade to Pro for some extra features, which I may well do.) As an experiement, I put the same 25 minute podcast through both the the 'Small' and 'Base' versions. Base took just over a minute, while Small took just over two minutes. Both very impressively accurate, and the results were very close, with a just tiny number of minor innaccuracies more in the Base version. As the processing time difference is not huge, I'll stick with Small from now on.

Works pretty well, but not perfect

For a free app this does a great job compared to all the other transcription options and there's no online services.

I haven't tried the Pro version for comparison but I'd imagine it can will put it on par with Siri or better.

It's better than the other options because it timestamps the transcription and this can be used for a variety of workflows.

What I'd like to see is a realtime dictation implementation akin to Apple's built-in dictation (double-tap the function key in a text area) with live transcription - I'm not sure if this is possible with this application architechture, especially if it uses ffmpeg in the backend which is how I'd approach it.

Does what it says on the tin

Works as advertised as an implementation of Whisper. I wish it would use all available CPU while running with a single window and keep using all available CPU while in the background. If it utilised the Apple Silcon GPU I'd give it 5 stars.
