Poor

I’ve just upgraded the app (18 March 2026) and now found issues in the pdf reports produced !

- The entries no longer display the ‘memo’ details,

- The account to each individual entry was passed

- whether it was a credit or debit card entry etc

- Receipt copies appear distorted

I have used this app for many years and this upgrade is definitely a step back !

LOST DATA

was my Goto for my account data for years. All of a sudden, while making an entry today and after the recent iOS update (which might have something to do with it) I’ve loads FIVE YEARS OF ENTRIES.

I’ve been reluctant to pay-for-yet-ANOTHER-subscription for this for a whole. Now I’m kicking myself I that I didn’t, or I just used a different app!

I’ve emailed but Ai reply was taken as such.

Sorry but I’m not sure who to be angry at but I am fuming.

Mac OS version please

I’ve used this software for years on my mobile phone and carry everywhere to do my expense reports for two nonprofit organisations. The PDFs that it produces are compliant and the fact that they incorporate receipt photographs is perfect. It would be awesome to see this app capable of running on my Mac mini M2 processor. Can you port expense Pro across to MacOS and add that to your suite of software. Keep going this is great work that you are doing.

Great app, very handy and comprehensive. All the information available at hand. Sometimes it crashes. Does not provide any information for how to retrieve forgotten passwords and other info.

Simply Brilliant!

I’ve been using this app for many months now and it’s made a real difference to how I manage my finances.

I love the reports, I have mine set up to give me a breakdown of my spending each month. The first couple of months were really eye opening and now I’m able to save each month.

The budget tool at the top of the dashboard is so useful to get a quick view of how much money I have left for the month.

I’m just updating what I have always felt- To all the iXpenselt team. Just to let you know your app along with Evernote, Pocketbook, iMusic, BBC iPlayer and NYT are the most important apps I use. Simple to use, great functions to sort out all my financial records. Never needed any other money app- well done! STILL BRILLIANT!

My favourite App

This app is by far my most useful. It's a very quick way of keeping track of income and expenditure. You can do reports and export the info as spreadsheets. You can take photos of your receipts. I’ve used it for years for everything, business, personal, lettings etc.

Problem

I have been reporting a problem now for over a week now where the app refuses to record all entries and will not sync between my iPad and iPhone despite me paying a yearly subscription. I have raised this a number of times but it still hasn't been fixed which renders the app useless in my case

I love the functionality but constant crashes is forcing me to look elsewhere, pity though because if the developers fixed it properly it would be perfect. In the meantime its bask to my less functional but very reliable predecessor.

Good app would have given 5 stars, however you’re not able to import PDF files/receipts/invoices directly from you emails or other files you have to take a screenshot as a workaround & to save them to daily expenses. It seems a shame as 99% of emails when sent electronically are in PDF format! Not good, image if you have an invoice paid to you that has more than one page? If this option was enabled, without doubt, this would be arguably one of the best apps for daily expenses and worthy of 5 stars.

Not letting me restore my purchase

It was working well in my previous phone and tried to have all the features I had paid for when I bought my new phone. I even wrote to the support team but never got a response. I had to pay again so that I would not lose all my data (from my back up)

Lost data

I bought the paid subscription. It stopped syncing. I found this out after my phone was stolen. I used it to log all business expenses.

However, on a positive note the company have been very hands on trying to resolve this issue and hopefully they will have the data retrieved.

Amazing

Love this App - for years I've been keeping receipts in envelopes and putting off the task of totalling them up at the end of the year. Now I just compile my expenses as I go along, creating PDFs and sending them off to accounts monthly for reimbursement, or my accountant annually for my tax return. Saves me a days of pain.

Usual story - ok, but ugly app. Figure out how to use it and then it gets an "upgrade" to make it look pretty and then it basically doesn't work. I can't believe how much time I end up wasting with stuff like this.

I wish I could find a way to downgrade to the old version. After a lot fiddling I've got the new one just about usable but the old one was a pleasure to use. If the makers want to keep selling this they will have to scrap the upgrade

Updating this 5* review to 3* as version 9.1.4 has broken all of the budgets I have used for years.

I’ve used this since it came out. It’s simple but effective, and can be tailored to your needs. There are a few minor niggles - including the UI and sync/back-up, as others have mentioned - but these are minor, as it’s a great app that I use every day. Devs, please keep the updates coming...

OLD AND NEW USERS

I must admit, I have fallen in love with this app again. When the app went through a face lift all the old users (and me) hated it. But all credit to the team, they have listened and it feels like a great app again plus more.

I have been using this app for years and it was very functional and useful. Sadly, the new version is next to useless. Too complicated and full of bugs. I appreciate the developers' desire to modernise the look and feel but the main usability of this app has been lost in the process. I am now looking for an alternative.

The new version is still full of bugs. Just try updating the price of an existing reoccurring payment. Magic! Now you have two. Ok so let's delete the original reoccurring payment, easy right? WRONG, now you have to go into every reoccurring payment and delete it one at a time. But hey the app looks nice. I'm giving up on this app.

What went wrong?

This used to work really well but the latest update is hopeless. It even backs some basic functionality like deleting your data and restoring from a backup. That is, you can backup, but you can't restore. Back to the drawing board I think.

The Budget problems aren't fixed. In fact they are worse. Why did you ever change this app? I have used it for years and it was just fine as it was; now it's a complete shambles. Upgrades are the bane of everyone's life. They wreck functions that everyone's happy with and introduce stuff that No one wants. Sack the developers.

Best money tracking app available!

I've never written a review before but I thought this app is worth the effort. This is the best money tracking app I've encountered - and I've tried many. No other app comes first when it comes to functionality - you can add custom budgets within a timeframe of your choice, view your spending in categories and subcategories of your choice, and the list goes on. It's very easy to enter your spending on the go. I've been using this app for 4 years and it's still the best. With the (long awaited) recent update, the graphical interface has had a major upgrade, and I'm one happy customer :)

A backward step

When a developer 'upgrades' their app I want a whoo-hoo feeling when I first open the new app and play around a bit to see what's new. The developers must have had a positive aim and want us, I'm sure, to rave about the new 'improved' app. I'm not raving though. I see others aren't either. I do not fully understand the reasons for the changes because for me the app worked well; it wasn't broken so why fix it!? I'm sure there must be reasons though so let's be rational; yes the decimal point is now created by pressing the backspace (on an iPhone 6) - a bit strange but no great problem. It seems trickier to navigate around the app, find and do stuff you want to do but that may be the initial discomfort with the new look (I haven't tried to do everything it can do yet). My slight irritation is that the old app automatically uploaded all the reciept photos I had taken, to my dropbox file, when plugging the iPhone into my mac - which I then used to make a backup of all my receipts, organised by month/year. The benefits of this are that I can add dropbox links to the relevant receipts within emails I send – avoiding the need to use the app to send loads of individual receipts as that's all it can do – which would annoy my clients. Also, I like having everything backed up in case anything goes wrong with the app and I lose all my files of receipts [this has happened before]. The new feature where the camera just captures a photo of the the receipt without surrounding visuals is cool - but not if I lose the ability to create the back-up files I have been creating. Yes I could send each receipt to myself to create the backup but why would an upgrade cause me to have to start doing something more time-consuming than before when the reason I bought the app was to save time and be more organised? Please fix.

Terrible update, just awful beyond words

I've had this app for years and it was a lifesaver with my money management and really quick and easy to use. This update has destroyed it and all my budgets are out of sync, it's complicated to use, and it now seems built around things I just don't need. Whatever you do don't update if you have the old version. Really disappointing that a great app that was such an integral part of managing my finances has been ruined. Now to start again or find something else that does what this used to do. Why try and fix what's not broken?

Update: Downloaded the "lite" i.e. Old version from the App Store. The new version has a backup with an option that comes up to transfer all your data from the new useless version to the lite "old" version. Ah ha, problem solved. Or not. Surprise surprise this doesn't work. And even better, the backup file exported from the new version is an .ix file (?) and isn't compatible with the restore in the lite which is .csv. Happy days! So I've just reentered all my budget, standing orders etc into the lite and will start again from scratch. Well done guys, you really excelled with this update.

Great App for Tracking Money

I really like this app. Since using it I have been able to track all my income and expediture and have greater idea of how much money I have overall. You have to put everything in though otherwise it doesn't work.

There are a few improvements to be made though. I quickly stopped using the budget feature as it assumed the buget was my income and I couldn't put my salary in the way I wanted to. It needs to be independant as if you are trying to save your budget will be lower than your monthly salary, but I want to see that I have had that money come in on the dashboard in the same way as other transactions.

Also I like that they now have totals, but they also need to show the total of reconciled payments so I can see how much has been taken out of an account and how much will be soon in the case of card payments for example.

Brilliant app - has changed my life!

This app is comprehensive, versatile and reliable. It is also easy to use. The settings can all be customised to suit your type of budget and saving plan. You can enter various accounts and set up your own categories of expense/income. My favourite feature is the daily roll over: I set myself a daily spending limit and if I do not reach it, it rolls over to the next day. The easy to read meter lets you see what you have left and the summary of your spending habits presented in bar or graph form is a great way to realise how much you have been spending on what. This app has already helped me save loads and made it interesting and fun at the same time.

Excellent app for tracking spending

I have used a few alternative but similar apps but this one is far superior, it is easy to navigate, with simple instructions and easily adapted to suit requirements.

Especially recommend as I recently upgraded my phone and instead of losing all the data contained on the app or going to very complicated lengths to transfer it I was able to email a backup of the data to myself directly from the app and simply download the data on to the new phone.

Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to keep an eye on their expenditure.

Useless for multiple accounts

May be ok for managing one account but I found it useless when trying to put in my current account, credit card and savings. I spent a couple of hours trying to get it to work and i'm sure it wasn't just me being thick. First it wouldn't let me put in a debit balance to start for my credit card so I had to create the balance as a transaction. Then it just kept lumping the accounts together so it would use transactions in my current account to offset the balance of my credit card account and when I put a debit from my savings and credited it to my current though it showed the transactions it just left the balances both as they originally were. Couldn't transfer funds from one to another and showed different balances for the same accounts when looked at on different pages. Could not work out how to manage the three accounts separately and not got the time to spend any longer trying to. Found an app that easily manages the three accounts now anyway.

A very nice and useful app has some very good reports takes a very short time to find your way around only bit I find difficult is the expense detail says how much you spend on average per day some days I feel I don't want to know but overall excellent app thank you . i have used this app for months now has improved to excellent their is not many apps that compete with this emailed developer and had good response listens to customers and gives feed back i use this every day good value it is apps like this that work that makes every day a little easier i have tried so many apps i have lost count if looking for financial app this is where one should stop thanks to the developer yours a customer

The best iPhone app I own

If you aren't even interested in managing expenses and just need something to manage your personal finances, this is what you need.

Even if you have just one account (like me), you'll find with this app, you can plug all your outgoings such as direct debits and standing orders in and see how much you have available for other things. I can see at a glance how much is left over for this months salary so I can make sensible decisions on transferring money to savings and what I spend day to day. All I do is stick an entry in for each receipt at the end of the day (lets you photo them and add to a transaction) or I just enter them there and then.

Once you have this overview of your spending, you can create extra budgets for petrol, groceries - anything you want to call it and using historical information on your spending on these things, you can set a limit each month that is realistic. It really makes saving easy because if you dial the app forward a few months with these new budgets set in place, you can see what surplus is really available.

It pains me to see people install this and then moan about it giving notifications. It *asks* you if you want to enable notifications on install. I did but then disabled them in the notifications settings screen where every app has an on/off switch!

This is a very powerful app, and it's sometimes not obvious how much you can change about it so if you find yourself wondering how to achieve a certain task, please look at the help option. Everything is explained in there, you just need to pay with it to get the setup you need.

Best Finance App! (Finance app veteran!)

Update: the reason i keep updating my reviews for this app is it is simply wonderful!

1. Time for a syncable iPad app?

2. The multiple receipts and shake to browse receipts seems a little gimmicky.

3. Still no b&w receipt scanning and cropping? :(

I've tried over 25 finance apps (and counting) and this is the BEST.

Can't believe it's only got 3 stars.

My main aim was to find an app that made tracking expenses easily and simply - I don't need something that's a chore.

Configuration is very powerful.

The speed at which you can input expenses was always better than any other but with the intuitive vendor input screen released in 4.5 it speeded thing up by over 20% for me (yes I timed it!)

Reporting can be as detailed as you wish with PDF prints possible however it would be good to be able to save searches. The responsive developers pointed me towards using the Dashboard which does cover most requirements... But still.

Budgeting can be confusing but better than all but 2 other apps I have tried.

The password problem has LONG BEEN FIXED.

May be a little out of scope but reminders for recurring bills would be great!

Top 1/3 of the screen could still do with improvements to make things clear I.e. Where do I stand right now and when I get paid.

As a contractor I would love the option to crop and save b&w receipts!

Time to provide a more professional set of icons?!

Significant improvements in the cash flow view (the top 1/3rd of the screen) need to be made to better figure out where you stand as it seems to consider all your income even if you have set a budget. Reports are very good, would be great if it had recurring reminders for bills and forecasting. Update: getting better with time!

Does everything I need, and more....

Hello I use your app daily and am extremely familiar with how it works. I use it to capture all my monthly expenses day-to-day. I have a budget profile which is based on my payday, meaning it starts on 23rd of every month every month and ends on 22nd. This works perfectly. I have now been using for 24months+ and I did an export of all my spending the other day (export functionality works beautifully both the bluetooth as well as the email versions!). As a result I was able to validate spending patterns, e.g. we were spending more on food and spending less on fuel. This enabled us to adjust our annual budget accordingly. We also use it to track holiday expenses and have used the exchange rate functionality (although that can be expensive because it accesses the web for FX rates, so now we simply capture the currency equivalent). This app is absolutely fabulous! Since I got it, I have never had a nasty surpise with my bank balances! Well done iXpeneIt.

Unrivalled!

Don't waste your time (or even money!) with other expense tracking apps cos this app is truly unrivalled. Very efficient and user friendly, with a huge stack of icons that allow you to customise it perfectly to your needs. The bar charts are also really useful, as is the recent addition of the dashboard feature...

Just a few small tweaks and it'll be perfect! Would be nice to rearrange the bar chart order as alphabetical isn't much use- the option of having bars displayed in the same order as my categories, or even simply organised from biggest to smallest expense. Keep the new icons comin' too! For example- somethin' like a stock graph icon for people who buy stocks n' shares...

Great work guys anyway, well worthy of a five star rating...

Great app, great support!

Ok so since my original review I realised it was my fault that the accounts weren't acting as I wanted. I had missed a step in the setup process that meant an expense was being added to all accounts instead of just the one I wanted. I contacted support an they guided me through the process and now it is working great! I can easily track all of my accounts and this app is easily the best looking, fully featured expense tracker in the app store.

Ignore the bad reviews, once the initial setup is done it couldn't be any easier to track everything you need to.

I gave 4 stars as there are still certain features that would be nice, e.g. the automatic creation of a budget when you enter a new account type but these are small things.

It's driving me mad!

It was brilliant before but since updating I seriously can't figure out how to get it to show my actual budget. I get paid at the end of the month and since it's change it shows that my expense is more than my income (my income automatically goes to zero at the first of the month). Maybe I'm not using it right but it doesn't really tell me much in the FAQ pages. I just want to see how much money I'm earning Vs how much I'm spending. The old version was far simpler in that respect.

Not to mention I had to re-input everything when it updated which was major pain.

Its good in the sense now you can add income and see your cashflow but whats the point when the first of month arrives your income resets to zero and your cashflow is in the negative. I tried changing the start dates to pay day both on income and expenses but that didn't solve it. A wee bit frustrating.

I looked at a lot of financial tracking apps before trying this one. My first impression with the interface was positive but then I got stuck trying to work out how to use it. I watched all the videos on the website and read the reviews for hints but it still took me a couple of days to work out how to enter what I wanted to track. I did wonder if I'd made a dreadful mistake but I think it'll work well now.

I wanted to track my purse, accounts and credit card but I don't have many expense types that only come from one source (e.g. I might pay for clothes with cash, debit card or credit card). If I set up Custom Budgets for each of these items and related them to ALL catagories then all expenses were taken from all Budgets.

Personalise the catagories and sub-catagories to start with. The app has the flexibility to deal with anything but it takes time to work out what you want.

Once the set up is done the data entry is very quick and easy.

Some examples of set ups on the website would be useful so that people could see the possibiliteis of what the app can be used for.

Using this app is just fine.

Why do so many people keep having a go at the minor bugs & developers. they are never happy with any updates. obviously they have nothing better to do with their time or money than keep blaming the developer about making improvements. Yes this is a major update and it brings many things onto the table and has lost some others. So what. For the price of it what do they want! blood i would expect. I have been using it for a while and still find it a fantastic app. If I was a developer I would pack it all in and let the ignorant people that cant manage to make a cup of tea let alone workout their finances deal with something else or maybe just keep there money in jam jars. This App is just as good as the user. Its a reporting tool and not a religion on how finances should be handled. Well done for a great app. keep up the good work and pay no attention to the other criticisms.

Latest update April 2010

Brilliant app I use it daily. The latest update allows both monthly cashflow tracking and (by scrolling the top pane) the "old" method of separate expense tracking (i.e. for a non-calendar month, if like me you get paid on the 24th of each month and need to track that separately). The backup ability is great and the support first class - I didn't realise the latest update had kept the expense tracking feature and got a clear email response within ten minutes! If you're after a budget control app get this you won't need anything else.

Note previous reviews saying the update only shows cashflow from the 1st of the month - I thought so too, but it doesn't just scroll the top pane and your old cashflow will be there!

Works wonderfully

There are loads of apps on the app store, from crappy games to half thoughtout utilities, novelties etc. And most of it doesn't do what it supposed to do properly, or does it badly. Put it this way, blackboard is the online portal used by alot of universities to host lecture notes, assignments and virtually run courses online, so it is safe to assume they have a big budget to make an app that functions - no. It doesnt work in the UK as far as I know. O2, biggest customer base mobile network in the UKs My O2 app doesn't work for a LOT of people and still havent resolved that since last year.

This app is a world apart and simply a must for anyone with an iPhone. This and CrossAir browser are why you would buy an iPhone over a Blackberry Bold 9700.

It is meticulously functionable and easy, hasn't crashed on me yet and is attractive to use. It has the option of crediting your budget through a negative expense. So whether you use this to balance your life or your corporate/business expenses - or even both, you can not go wrong with this app. You can see where you are squandering money away on that White Choc Mocca daily from Starbucks or hitting the bar after work. You can break it down to see the real world costs of running your car. You can take photographs if you require proof for returns or for memorysake. There isn't anything that springs to my mind that this app is lacking.

The developers have done a mighty job here. Congratulations to them. Can't wait for the next update.

Great, however

This is a good app for keeping track of your money. I use the custom budget which shows a little bar that gradually drains away, so at a quick glance you can see how much money you have left. I also like the rollover option that either adds or debits funds depending on how you spent last month. However there is one niggle that would make this app even easier to use i feel.

Number One is I can find no budget that allows you to change the amount of funds you have every month-the custom budget is set and the others do not roll over ( a feature that I very much like). i know that others have commented that their wages are not the same every month. It does means that if you change it, it changes for every month. If you don't, you have to set an average over the whole year. This does not take much account of your fluctuating finances (i.e. you may spend more because you have more).

If you were able to have a custom budget that could be adjusted this would definitely be a five star.

Excellent tool to track spending

Firstly this tool will not replace MS Money or Quicken if you are into those account tracking type applications. What it will do perfectly is let you track all the little purchases we make day in and day out. Ever wondered what happened to the £20 I had in my wallet or how much you actually spend on coffees and lunch at work? If so then this is the tool for you.

It takes some effort to keep on top of entering transactions, however this is why this is such a great app for the iPhone as you will always have your phone handy. The reporting is great, one improvement I would like to see added is the ability to save common reports. The exporting to email is also very handy.

This is second only to Facebook as my most used App Store app. Great job!

Awesome

I got this a week ago expecting it to help me track my outgoings and see where I was spanking my cash. I wasn't expecting it to change my spending habits! I don't overspend but i do have a habit of frittering my money away. However, knowing that I'm going to see my financial fails immortalised in black and white on a chart of somekind has really got me thinking before reaching for my wallet. All within a week! :-)

The app, itself, is well thought out and easy to use with neat features like icons, photographing receipts, and has useful filters when setting up and viewing reports. Top marks all round.

Best app in category

There is not much to say other than this app is the best in this category - and I have tried many of them!

What is even better: developers in fact get back to you quickly when you ask for help/features. In my case I asked for a feature that enables me to move a sub-category into another main category - which is useful when you figure out that the category structure you set up was not perfect ;) They have taken note if this and promised it for one of the next releases. What can I say? Thanks and keep up the fantastic work! Since I use your app I started to understand where all the money goes!

PS: The only other thing that just comes into my mind: any chance to speed up the startup for even faster cost logging? Thx

Brilliant

I have been using this for a few weeks and it's good - very good. It just does what it says it will. I did not like the V2.3 update, the calendar idea was not practical, but the developer listened to feed back and within a couple of weeks we have back the old functionality plus the ability to use the calendar to jump around the database if required. That's the kind of service that gets my vote. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to track simple costs and maybe even for "on the go" budgeting. A first class product. ***Update*** still happy after a few months of use. Would love to see this progress but there are other apps if you want full control over your finances. This one does exactly what it's designed to do. By the way it has NEVER crashed on my iPod.

***Second Update*** I have been using this now for seven months. It gets better and more comprehensive with each update, support is first class, so much better than the big boys!! I have still to experience a crash and find the software is very easy to use. I have tried other accounts progs for the iPhone and none of them have been much good. This is not a full accounts program anyway and never said it was but it is exceedingly good value for three quid!

Ixpenseit

3choices: pocketmoney, ibear money or ixpenseit. This focuses on budgets (the others track your accounts more like ms money) and it does it very well. Ibear money is almost as good but the reporting is cleaner and better with ixpenseit. as a longterm ms money user it's hard to change focus from watching your accounts to how well a budget plan is going but that's my issue not ixpenseit. Major functionality missing is , however, a) the ability to split a transaction to multiple budgets eg: 1 shopping bill may be food & clothing (2 seperate budgets in my world) & b) the editting of categories/sub-categories should be made easier ( you have to 1st change the defaults to get into the edit option & then you can do only 1 at a time). c) cash-flow and what-if analysis.

Good application

I've been using this application for a while now and it is very useful for keeping track of my cash expenditure.

One thing I would like is the ability to decide which budget I would like to see on the main screen when I have more than one in operation at any given time. At the moment it seems as if it is the first one you make. Is there a way of changing the default option?

Finally, I must say that when I had some teething problems with the application, I emailed the support team and they replied on the same day on several occasions to help me solve the problem. Very helpful and most appreciated.

Great application

So I tried a couple of the other applications but from the off this one felt the most intuitive. It's a polished application and the developer has managed to devise what is a fantastically simple interface with comprehensive functionality. It's not an accounts ledger but if you simply want a good budget management tool and better idea of where your moneys going, then I'd give it a go.

Update:

Ok having used the application more extensively I've now picked up on those issues highlighted by others. At the moment there's no facility to add funds after setting the initial budget, or to specify the start date. Still a good allocation, but would be 5 stars for me if those facilities were added.

Great for budgeting

I've been using this for the last couple of months and it's incredibly useful, you can sort your items by category and currency, so you can see where you're spending. It's also viewable by bar chart, pie chart and exportable to a spreadsheet so you can play with your data.

The currency conversion is useful too, since I'm spending some time in the USA, I can add the amounts in dollars and it will convert it to pounds. You can also add a budget and it shows it in a green bar above the expense list.

All in all it's the most versatile budgeting program and you can try iexpenseitlite before you buy.

Worth £2.99

Very good application to have in these financially tight times. Easy to keep track of how much your spending throughout the day, as the total is displayed at the top of the page. Quick and easy to use and see exactly were your money is going. Worth the £2.99, could be a little cheaper, but it still provides a lot for the money. Easy and simple to use which is good if your on the move all day, and if like me using multi - currency formats. Add your own categories or sub-categories with icons, although I felt there could be a few more icons, it's still very good. Overall if you loose track of were your money goes and want to see it illustrated in an easy to read format, then this is for you.

Great Update

Hi Guys just wanted to let you know this is a great update to an already very nice application. I use it solely for tracking and managing business expenses. I love the export/email function that makes it really easy to get the information out in a format I can modify (XLS) for submitting to work.

I have only one small feature missing that would make this the perfect application for managing my expenses, as I travel extensively around the world it would be great to have the ability to enter an exchange rate for each entry so that I can then view all my expenses in my local currency!! Also would be nice if this exchange rate field allowed both manual entry and also could pull down the exchange rate from the web.

Keep up the good work and I look forward to further updates, and just as a point I wouldn't object to paying for updates either.
