Ruined for iPhone

This excellent app is now very hard to use on an iPhone. So much has been squeezed into the new landscape view that everything is far too small making string and note selection extremely difficult.
I totally regret having updated to this new version. Wish I could go back.
I used to use this a lot, but now it's just too much hassle.

Great

I was really surprised how good this app was. No doubt it depends on what you are looking to get from it, but as a quick chord, scale, arpeggio reference it works very well and the best bit... in any tuning!!
(even your own custom tuning). A very clever app with features I have never seen before. Easy to use too. As a reference tool... Get it.

What a wast

Upgraded from the basic version and found this to be way worse!!
Half of it does not work at all and the app help just takes you back to the review page so hence a bad review
Don't buy this it don't work and the developer obviously. Can't be bothered to update it

Great app

I saw a lot of complaints about this application, and I was hesitant. but frankly, this is a perfect application for my requirement. I wanted a scale library and an indication of the right chord progressions. This app delivers that perfectly. Add the arpeggio and triad guides and this is exactly what I was looking for. I think it depends on what you are looking for in an app, but if what I mentioned above is all you need, then I suggest you go ahead and buy this.

Timings

I bought this app to experiment with open tunings, however, when I select an open tuning, all the strings are greyed out and I can't select a chord.
Sorry to write this in a review but when I click App Support or Developer Web Site it just takes me back to this page.

useful & comprehensive

as others have said, this app is a really comprehensive guide to guitar chords and scales. every chord in every position on the fretboard and every type of scale you can think of, ranging from blues to pentatonic to mongolian yak-herding music scales [OK. i made that last one up, but it wouldnae surprise me if it was in there!]
however it is also ridiculously large for what it does. this app should weigh in at under a meg. it's over 60MB!
personally i'd also prefer to see the pointless 'quiz' removed and replaced with something more useful [for example an interactive guide to the CAGE system would be great]
as regards the new look; it's an improvement on before. although, to be fair, it would have been hard not to improve on the original. it's still a bit 'fisher price' tho' and i wish developers would stop using those horrid 'spinning dial' selectors -surely one of the worst GUI designs ever.
and finally; it may be a small thing but it really bugs me that the guitar in the new icon is upsidedown!

Almost..

Great app, very informative and educational, good structure as well, however:
Size: 1/10 - are the sounds pre-recorded? Why can't u use the sound engine - would reduce the size of the app.
Graphics and design: 3/10 - no retina display support. Idea - have photo realistic textures for fretboard, main interface, buttons etc. or maybe Photoshop...?
Still like the app and if the 2 above were fixed - would be the coolest guitar app ever!

A must for any guitar player/composer

Brilliant, everything u need to learn and compose your own songs is here, love the chord/scale relationships, I can now create lead melodys over a chord sequence and know what scales I'm using over the chords. Top app!!

It's ok

As others have said, it is very comprehensive. This does unfortunately lead to it being rather large. For its 64.9MB, I would expect a chromatic tuner in addition to the rest of the features of the app. I must stress, this app is not bad, but it does take up a lot of space and lacks a tuner, that's all. Apart from these things it's great.

Takes forever to install!

Due to it's large size, this app took forever to install on my iPhone.

Sigh

Undoubtedly comprehensive, but its huge 50 MB belies the underlying problem: it's just a webpage and a pile of MP3s. Give me a real app.

Chord Finder is Great Addition

I've been looking for an iphone app, for months, that allows you to type in the notes of chords on the virtual keyboard and tell you what chord it is. Now, it has been added to this already fantastically comprehensive app. Superb! I can now tell others what chords i'm playing.

Bloody brilliant

As a pro composer and session player I have to say thank you to the team, this is the toolkit I needed and I use it every day, several times a day. The least I can do is stick 5 stars on this little gem. The attention to detail and the constant thoughtful upgrades show a passion and care for the craft, keep it coming, it's superb.

Awesome.

I don't see why the overall rating isn't 5 stars?! This is the best app for guitar players on the store, for all abilties. This app has everything you need, scales, chords, arpeggios, scale to chord, a fun test me feature, other great features as well, well worth the money.

Several issues resolved

Now more useful features - as asked for by some users of the previous versions. Simple to use and very useful on those "theory" days when I try to catch up on bits of new technique (flamenco at the moment for example). Modes and scales are well covered. I'm beginning to find it useful for writing - I particularly like the "find chords for a scale" facility.
Very neat and well thought out.

Great app... Needs tuner

Really great and powerful toolkit. Constantly updated too! In my eyes the only thing it's lacking would be a tuner or even a simple selectable pitch button for when you're tuning by ear. Thatd be fantastic!

Great Application

This is an excellent application, so much information and an easy reference whether at home or mobile. And all the constant updates and improvements thanks.

excellent

the unique feature of entering the notes of a chord and the type of chord(s) it is makes is awesome for those who write by ear and then work to identify what they have played.
WARNING this feature is for creatives
for those who want the standard scales and chords this is here too!
Highly recommended!

PLEASE!!!

I would be MOST GRATEFUL if you could make a small update so that when the ipod / iPhone is rotated to horizontal the fretboard DOES'NT flip too
When trying to look at the scales and arpeggios it would be VERY useful to
be able to look at the diagrams horizontally so it's like having a guitar
in your hands
This app is amazing and I use it all the time and it's worth every penny and I would pay again and rate 5 stars to are this in an update
I'm sure other people would like to see this also
Many thanks

Not to bad

Lookaly I caught this app when it was free. It's quite good but could do with some improvements on how it runs, maby they sohould look at the other chord apps. But still not bad

Open Tuning

This would be really great if it included chords for open tuning, which I imagined it did when I bought it. I should have read the small print I know, but come on, it's only £1.79 so what am I moaning about? I'm sure the next update will have the facility.

For me it's absolutely what I've been looking for. Every scale-wow!

Good

Good but could be better! It would be great if there was a place where you could type the name of the chord in and search. Even better! If you could place your finger on the strings, for when you know what the chord looks like but not the name?
I like this app! A good intro price, but could run smoother and the icon is just boring!
