WHAT IS THE MAT CALCULATOR:

The Mat Calculator is a simple app that allows users to determine the missing information within their framing project. When I worked in a frame shop I found out that this simple calculation is often difficult for people to perform. When not performed correctly then it can lead to costly mistakes of needing to scrap incorrectly cut mats or the appearance of the mat is incorrect.

With the low one-time cost of this app, even if it saves you from scrapping one mat then its already paid for itself. There are no In-App Purchases or subscriptions to sign up for. Our hope is that DIY framers will be able to use the matting calculator for all projects both big and small.

HOW DOES IT WORK:

The Mat Calculator works off of the principle that custom framers will start with a known image, mat, or frame. Then they need to size the unknown items to make the frame work. With this in mind then there are 3 calculation modes:

MAT CALCULATION: This mode allows for the user to enter in their frame size, and picture size and let the calculator determine the boarders needed to complete the frame. In this calculation there is an option to specify the bottom mat boarder to be wider, which is common in many frame styles. This is the most common calculation needed.

IMAGE CALCULATION: This mode allows for the user to calculate what size to print an image when they have an existing frame. The user will be prompted to enter the frame size and the desired mat boarders, then the calculator will specify the image size needed for the framing project to work.

FRAME CALCULATION: This mode allows the user to calculate the frame size. The user will specify the image size and what mat boarders to use, then the calculator will determine the custom frame size needed to make the project work.

All calculations end with the option to preview your mat. Helps users to see if the mat proportions look good. Previews are free of watermarks and can have screenshots taken for later use or sharing.

Many customers say that these are easy calculations and can be done by hand. Yes, that is true. It can also be said that all math can be done by hand, but we use calculators everyday to make our life easier. This app is no exception. We are trying to make your life easier and reduce your mistakes.

Matt Calculator

Brilliant app for working out calculations when framing pictures. Helps with working out frame sizes, starting with picture size, working out mount width, and giving you the frame sizes.

It allows you to put in overall size of a sheet of mount board and work out how to optimise the amount of smaller same sized boards you can cut.

Also allows you to put an image into a mount board and play with matching colour of mount to image colours. Love to play with this app. The more I play the more I find it helpful.

I have had issues with freezing but it is getting far better as time goes by.

Quite possibly the worst and overpriced app I have ever seen. £1.49 for that?

Come on!

Tedious to use and looks uggggly!

If they let you try it first you would never buy it.

Only gave 1 star because you can't give none and boy does THIS APP DESERVE NONE.

Review

No stars! Waste of money! Not very flexible. Transfers image data to mat sizes if you go the wrong way. I built my own spreadsheet works very well and you can enter many more variables: mat boarder, image size and frame width, etc. My spreadsheet then outputs all the sizes I need: mat, glass, frame and outside cut measurements.
