Nostalgic excellence

Revolution studios ooze nostalgia for me.
Memories as a teenager sat in front of a clunky old Tv trying to figure out the next move in their beautifully crafted adventures.
The games have all stood the test of time and I would recommend anyone to give this game and any of their others a go.

Great game, story more relevant than ever, phone BURNS and has some bugs.

First of all, great adventure point and click game. Epitome of that genre in the 90s complete with some of the less obtuse ‘banana on the metronome’ puzzles.
I’m playing on iOS 14 on an iPhone 12 and it makes my phone incredibly hot, this draining the battery. There’s also a game crashing bug when you talk to the travel agent. I think I’m done with him, but if I’m not then I’m pretty stuck.

Beautiful game

Loved it in the 90's.. and love it still, and play through every few years.
Highly recommend if you like Broken Sword, or indeed any adventure game of this kind.
The graphics are dated, but to me still hold up as the scenery and locations are well designed, futuristic and atmospheric!
I also love the characters throughout and the voice acting is great, and the music is infectious too!
Overall a tip top grade-A title. Very strong overall, and dear to my heart ❤️

Brilliant in every way

I played this game off the back of my admiration for the Broken Sword series. I never played this game when it was released but I have to say that this really does open your eyes to how fantastic the guys at Revolution software really are. The story is brilliant and beyond its years for back then, the music is so infectious and the voice acting extremely comedic and keeps you interested. Just tremendous all round, highly recommend if you like an adventure that keeps you guessing.

Cut scenes missing :(

Loved this back in the Amiga days, but never finished it. Was happy to pay to play it through before playing the new sequel.
Looking forward to the new animated cut scenes too, but when I started a new game, not only did I not see a new cut scene, I didn’t see an old one either. Just launches straight into Foster hiding in the factory.
Has completely put me off playing, because if the intro cut scene is missing, what about any later cut scenes that I might not realise I’m missing?

Major bug renders game pointless

You reach a point in this game, where a bug involving one of the characters you have to interact with, means you can't continue. The character doesn't respond. Tried restarting the game and the same problem arose.
A quick search online has shown that the bug is very well known but hasn't been addressed. Why not??
Avoid this game. You're wasting your cash.

Spoilt by silly things

Purchased this because I'm a big fan of the broken sword games. The game play could be better as everything seems a little bit random and nonsensical! It gets frustrating with constant missions backwards and forwards to find items at chance and some of the puzzles aren't really about brain work but hopeful and sometimes desperate guesses. One little example is I was trying to gain access to a locked shed with an "old fashioned" lock, I was searching for ages for an old fashioned key and aimlessly talking to characters to gain a clue only to then find out (purely through finally giving in to the hint option) that you can use a swipe card on it???? One of many silly spoiling factors that has you chasing shadows! The price is good but sometimes the game will close itself down as you scroll the options screen, sending you annoyingly to your phone screen! Storyline is good and old school cartoony characters take you back and the price is reasonable just a few let down factors!

Wonderful point and click adventure

There is a contingent of mobile users who will know exactly what I mean when I say what a joy it is to have remastered nostalgia-filled games that used to sit on enormous desktop machines now reimagined brilliantly for the phone.
This game is slightly different to the LucasFilm games (day of the tentacle, monkey island - also all available for iOS at least) in that you can readily die on this graphic adventure. But with infinite lives, it doesn't really matter. A wonderful dystopian talkie point and click. Well worth it.

Lack of story

As a fan of broken sword games, I got this to play on hols. After completing it, I feel that it wasn't great. The lack of a story made the point and click functions some what random. Was more of a room escape game that you had to go back and forward to get anywhere.

A classic re-invented

Not only do I love this game but I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to test it prior to release. This game fills me full of childhood glee, reminding me of the Christmas I was given it. The game still excites me as much as it did back then. Only now I can play it anywhere. The control system is a huge step forwards in terms of playability as it puts an end to pixel hunting with it's unique item hotspots and clever pick up/look at/talk to controls. Incredibly beautiful re-vamped comic scenes from Dave Gibbons(Watchmen) make the story come to life. The new hint system provides a nibble of information to help but does not give you the answer straight away. Perfect for those frustrating 'aaargh what the heck do I do with this thing' moments. Improved music quality is always a benefit especially with headphones. Maybe I am biased but this game has to be worth £2.99 of anybodies money.
Thanks to Revolution Software for bringing this masterpiece to such a wonderful platform.

Beneath a steel sky

This is the worst game I have ever purchased
It crashes regularly
The robot is always in the way you try to do anything
The graphics are the worst I have ever seen
I don't know how they have the nerve to charge for the biggest load of rubbish I have ever encountered
A refund would be the best thing for anyone who has bought this game.
Take my advice and steer well clear of buying this rubbish
It is not worth a star.

Update: Revolution have said they are aware of the IOS 8 bug and are working on a fix.
BASS wow. The neat intro movie works perfectly but then after the helicopter crash and when Foster runs away, the game crashes back to 'desktop' completely dead. While I've been a fan of Dave Gibbons work since I was a kid (35 years?), I've also been a fan of BASS for twenty years and been waiting to play it again (my original Amiga game crashed too so I couldn't finish it either) so far I still don't get to play it again after all. Not good

Sorry but I loved the Broken Swords so I gave this a shot. The best thing about it was the dialogue; very funny and amusing. That being said, that's all there was to like. Not at all intuitive game play and I found myself picking up things and not having a clue why. Wandering around the plant was annoying too and the characters are capable of 'getting in each other's way' which causes the game to freeze. It also crashes fairly often and it is not always clear what the next move is. Sorry, I really wanted to like this one but I deleted it after finding the bodies in the lockers and having to go back to that damn annoying plant!!

People who say this is not as good as broken sword please remember this game was ported from the amiga 500 and pc of the 386 variety, this game is nearly 20yrs old!I also had the amiga cd32 version of this with added voice acting which is present on this app.

Warm & fuzzy nostalgic treat for OAP's!

Update: just completed it - great story, intriguing ending...
---
I didn't actually play this title 'back in the day', but almost feel like I have because of the game style and the nature of the format, which was popular in it's day (1930's). Haven't actually got very far into it yet, but have very much enjoyed it so far. The only (minor) niggle I've encountered to date is interacting with objects when another character is in the way, such that there wasn't any obvious indication from the game that this was why I couldn't do certain things at certain times & therefore had to learn by trial & error; this doesn't detract from the overall experience, however, as it adds to the level of authenticity. I'll post an update when I get further into the game.

Much better than you expect!

I played this when it first came out so I remembered how to do a few things but it can be quite a challenge! I was 13 when I played first time and don't know how I managed it! The graphics haven't updated at all as far as I can tell, but the speech is good and no need for 15 floppy disks plus a save disk (That was bad back then). I enjoyed just as much this time round and for under £2 is a decent price too! I am glad I played it again!

Good game

This is a reasonably good game, it never crashed for me. The controls were easy to use and the hint system helps. (same controls as broken sword) The story was good and your robot friend Joey is a nice touch. One thing I will say is that it's not very long. I bought it yesterday and have finished it already. A sublime entry for the first-time gamer

My first attempt at 'Point and Click' adventuring on the iPhone
And it won't be my last. Very few games in my life make an impression on me ( the last one being Another World remastered for the Nokia) but this did. Beautifully drawn, original ,atmospheric, funny and not too insanely difficult thanks to the great interface and Hints section. A classic and absolutely 100% recommended for anyone's entry into the Adventure genre. Even if you're a seasoned gamer, this remastered gem will shine.
I truly hope the makers write a sequel.

Wow...

I don't usually write reviews for games, but this one simply blew my mind. I was intrigued from the start, the voice acting is hilarious as is the script, it has everything. This is definitely a game I will be thinking about long after being finished. My only gripe is the short number of videos drawn by that wacthmen bloke...
Just buy it!!! I had to play it in the toilet at a party because it was so good!

A brilliant port - Buy it!!!

I've been a fan of the broken sword series for years and hadn't ventured into BASS world. I can honestly say that this is one of the best games i've ever played. The controls are wonderful - no pretend mouse you just touch the screen!!! And for £1.79 it's an absolute bargain, in comparison monkey island is £4.99! Point and click is back at last!!! Sci-fi, witty dialogue, great puzzles, adventure - like any of the above and you'll love this game!

Timeless classic

Can't believe bass was releases for the the iphone. This game never gets boring! People play for nostalgia and even if you haven't played it yet it's well worth your time. Great artwork and soundtrack, and very funny in places. Control system in my opinion is a little bit fiddley and you usually end up selecting the wrong thing. But after a while you get used to it! Also when you save it doesn't always save at the exact location and you have to redo parts. I have also noticed some clitches such as walking through Walls and people and the game crashed completely when I tried talking to one of the characters.
I have given this release 5 stars as it's always a joy to play and doesn't get boring even the 50th time through! Definately recommend this game!

more of this!!

This is a rare and forgotten piece of gem amongst adventure games. The puzzles are logical, the interface is easy to handle, the dialogues are cleverly written with just enough information and the characters deliver a decent load of quality humour as well. The gameplay is enviably well balanced and carefully avoids to fall victim to the the most common and frustrating illnesses of the genre - finding keys and codes to doors and building up an inventory of a hundred items - and is just pure fun. The only real problem with the game is its length: i completed it in about 6 hours and remained thirsty for its pleasures. The story has a lot of unexploited potential left in it. Lets hope for a sequel - according to certain rumours, the guys at Revolution have been considering making a second episode for a while. Well, BRING IT ON, because as of now, Beneath a Steel Sky and Charles Cecil's other classic masterpiece, the Broken Sword - Director's Cut are the best and most enjoyable games available on Ipod. Period. And for this price, it is pure charity for adventurers.

The Mutt's Nutts

It being one of my favourite adventure games from my PC 'back in the day', I was overjoyed that it is available on the iPhone and was infact one of me reasons for buying the iPhone in the first place. It did not disappoint either - a full new 'talkie' soundtrack and a nice Twitter progress update facility too. I would heartily recommend that you buy this soon...today..now! too much time has elapsed while you have been reading this that you could have been spending Beneath A Steel Sky!

Excellent value

The point and click adventure is perfectly suited to the iPhone and Beneath a Steel Sky is a forgotten classic of the genre. Revolution has updated their game so that it looks great but never loses it's the nostalgia factor of it's Amiga heritage. The interface is intuitive with a well thought out tiered hint system. That is not to say that the puzzles are as obscure as some in the Monkey Island series, there is generally a logical answer which will have you kicking yourself once you open the hints menu.
Beneath a Steel Sky is both excellent value and highly recommended. I look forward to moving on to Revolution's next game Broken Sword.

Kept me up at night!

This is a solid and addictive point And click adventure game with a good fun story to hold your interest. I found the navigation easy to use, you soon pick up the technique. This game is just about challenging enough to make it a good length play, especially considering the price! I was up until about 3am one night just because I couldn't tear myself away! It gets 4 instead of 5 stars because th graphics are average, if not a little dated, not stunning. But definatly still worth a play, don't let that put you off.

Before completion: Never had i played nor heard of this before, and its not really a game i would go for, but when i saw the price drop, i thot yeah why not? Ill give it a shot. Im lovin it so far and will write a more detailed review when ive completed it. Its deffo worth getting at the lower price of 59p, not that im saying its not worth the higher price it was at before. Ive only played about 45 minutes of it and as i said before, im lovin it so far. Deffo worth splashin out on this one. 
Updated review- After completion:
Enjoyed it throughout, but I enjoyed it even more so towards the end of the game, as you reveal more about whats hapnening. The puzzles vary from easy to quite brutal at times, but there is a 'puzzle hint menu' which you can use in-game (if needed) to give you clues on what to do next (recommend you use it ONLY when u dont have a scooby doo on how to solve the puzzles). The story, characters and humour used throughout is great. Not going to spoil anything or give the story away for anyone, so all I have left to say is get this for the 59p and experience it for yourself, youl not be dissapointed. Great game that will have your brain working out harder than rambo at times. 

Great game

Excellent game. Best feature would be the in-game hints as some of the puzzles are a bit obscure(you'll know what i mean once you at the bit where you are inside LINC). The controls are a bit fiddly but are about as good as you can get on an iphone. Definetely worth a purchase.
For those of you stuck on the CYBER MAZE, its probably best to go look out the numerous walktroughs available online elsewhere. The in-game hints arnt always that descriptive.

Great!

This is a fully enjoyable and deep game that is well worth it's price it has good point and click gameplay and a good sense of humour. Where a lot of these reviews have mentioned puzzles I was unsure about whether to by this or not as I'm not a big puzzle fan, but puzzles In this are not things like match all the icons together to open a door etc. But they are things like finding a crowbar then clicking on a door with it to open it so this adds to the already innovative design. GET THIS NOW!!!!!

Not bad

I played this in the 1990s on an old PC but I lost the disk so I was excited to see it on the iPhone. It's a decent game, but it gets a little boring after a while and there seems to be a lot of going backwards and forwards and sometimes the touchscreen commands are too close together or not quite as easy to use as they would be using a computer mouse.
I was quite pleased to complete this game as while it can be addictive, it's also frustrating at times. Worth buying, especially when you consider it's over 15 years old yet could easily pass as being a modern game, but don't expect too much.

Could have been a little slicker

Very British sense of humour and much like the games I played a very long time ago. The help system is well implemented. It seems a shame that you have to exit a screen to walk left or right rather than just scrolling as you get close the object use operation could be better. There's a lot of walking backwards and foewards to get/do stuff and you need patience.
Really this is a pedestrian puzzler, if you are looking for excitement go elsewhere.

Absolutely fantastic

I played the demo of this game like 10 years ago on my old 386 pc. Never got around to playing it - don't think it ran very well.
Anyway I've finally been given the chance to play this classic. The story so far is awesome and I love the gfx-great for it's age! Thanks for re-releasing this, highly recommended for fans of the old point and click adventure games.
Recently completed this game-best story I've ever encountered in a point and click adventure. Wish there was a sequel-loved it. Downside is it felt too short.

Just f'in great

Perfectly walks the line between a re-release and an 'updated version'. The core game is exactly as I remember it, all lovingly hand-drawn and a little bundle of adventure gaming perfection. Outside of the core, the graphics have all been re-jigged to fit perfectly on your ipod/phone and a simple, intuitive touch interface dropped over it all.
I bought the game on a whim of nostalgia with fair expectations, but looking back after finishing it, I really can't see how they could have improved at all.
Made a 30-odd year old very happy and I'd hope those after a slightly deeper experience, even if you didn't catch it the first time around, will pick it up - promise you won't regret it.

Great Re-make To An Awsome Game

I'm huge fan of the game, having finished it like a million times on CD32 and PC. It's slick on the small screen and the new interface works suprisingly well. Only time I've had problems with it is during the password screen in Linc Space. I love the newly drawn panels and the music sounds even crisper and more mesmorizing than it did before. Even if you own the game already, this is more than worth the price 

Good one

It's nice to see how these old classics get revived for the iPhone. I loved it when i had it on PC and I was surprised how well it stands the test of time. It still feels very intense, offers a good storyline and some of the best voice acting I have ever come across in a computer game. Also a perfect app for commuting or travelling because it goes easy on the battery. Glad I bought it.

Great platform for these games

Never did get into this properly when I had the pc version years ago. Now I can see why everyone loved it. Voice acting is excellent, story is well written with great characters and locations. Only slight downer is the one or two slightly inconsistent puzzles but the hint system or a willingness to try absolutely everything will see you through. Quite disappointed to have finished it. More Cecil conversions please!

From Amiga to iphone, revisiting this game after 12 years

I just wanted to drop a quick review to say how fantastic this game is. I had it originally for the Commodore Amiga and never completed it. When I saw it was availbale on the App store I had to go and grab it. This is a typical point and click (touch) adventure, one of the best non-lucasarts of the genre. The voice acting is great and the game is pretty logical. The inbuilt hint system also works very well. I completed it today after about 10 hours worth of play. The game is great fun and as mentioned before the graphics still look good. My favourite is the comical voice acting which has some very humourous undertones. My only question is this; is the ending lining up a sequel or is it a statement about modern day society....would love to know.

Still brilliant

Even better than I remembered it being. It's an absolute perfect example of it's genre - everything about it is very, very good. Beautiful art, highly professional and well-humoured voice acting, atmospheric music, and a dark tinge to a genuinely interesting story. Beneath a Steel Sky remains an all-time favourite. And it works very well on the iPhone, unlike many other recent adventure game additions to the app catalogue.

Classic game for a new geneartion...

Having been a big fan of this game first time round I was excited to hear it was coming out for the Iphone/Itouch. The developers do not disapoint and the game and humour have stood the test of time and it is really good fun. The only complaint I have is that I am not sure what they have remastered its more like a re-release rather than an improved version.
Hours of fun and a really enjoyable game, you wont be disapointed. Some nostalgia games are worth playing for the memorys but are quickly forgotten again. BASK I stuck with through to the end as the story is very entertaining and has hours of really good fun.

Awesome experience

What a great adventure game. Clever, atmospheric, dark and funny.
Pacing is very good with the right level of challenge for a mobile game. The hint system gives you a nudge when needed.
Very nice control interface - never gets in the way and is easy and intuitive. The best adventure interface I've seen on the platform.
Overall, a brilliant adventure. More please!

Excellent version of a classic

As other have said, this was a fantastic game back in the days of the Amiga, and it's nice to see that it is still as well presented and good fun as it always was.
The puzzles are tricky but never unfair or illogical, and the touch interface works perfectly and intuitively.
I won't need to get my A1200 out the loft at this rate - all the best games will be available on the iPhone!

Another Classic Title Comes To The iPhone

I played this game on my Amiga platform way back in the 90’s. Having this game on my iPhone sure takes me back to the days of blue floppy disks and late night gaming. You can look up the name of this game on Wikipedia for full details as there is too much to explain here. You can’t go far wrong with this title if you like point and click adventures. This is an engrossing game to play, with beautiful gfx, humorous characters and challenging puzzles. Grab it today.

Great but a couple of touch issues

A classic game. The voice acting is funny and adds more to my original experience. The touch interface works well most of the time but it can suffer from too much detail sometimes. I had particular issues with using the inventory. The addition of hints is great and helps out on some of the fiendish puzzles in the game. Worth the money and time.

Excellent game

This game reminds me of broken sword. I love this genre. Its a great game and easy to get into. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it is not always clear where to go next without taking a hint. It would be good if there was more naration from the main character to help lead you in the right direction without giving the game away, like broken sword. Finally I would like to see more of these please and longer too!

Great port of a classic adventure 

Shows its age is a few places: the graphics aren't as clear as they could be, the hint system is basically just a walkthrough and it's not always clear WHY you're trying to do something (like the dog in the pond).
But despite that, if you are after a classic point-and-click adventure for your iPhone then this is a great one to try. Be Vigilant! 

Stunning game

Being an admirer of Revolution's infamous Broken genre of games, which I had only played on the PC, I was looking forward to this first iPhone version. This is a very, accompished, pleasing and lavish port. The presentation and look and feel of this puts it heads above most of even the upper tier of iPhone games. The well though out and clean interface works very well, and feels very natural. This would be a must-buy at $20, so an easy choice.

The graphic adventure revival continues

Great port of a very good adventure. One of the very few of its kind that I never played first time round, very glad I've now had chance to finally try it. Superb art style and some great set-pieces. Some of the puzzles are a bit esoteric and it's not always clear where to go next, but a decent hint system helps out if you get stuck - be warned though, it's more 'walkthrough' than 'hint' so use sparingly! Fans of Monkey Island etc can't go wrong with this at this price.

Listen to the interview with the maker on the midlife gamer podcast

Didn't even know this came out then I heard the interview on the Midlife gamer podcast with the maker of the game. Brings back fond memories of playing the Amiga.
Well worth the money brillant remake feels very natuarl to play unlike some other classic point&click that came out recently . The game has a great hint system for newcomers the audio is of great quality especially the regional English accents of the charcters, good save system allowing for multiple saves, nice style comic book cut scenes , 10 hours of gameplay . The best £2.99 I've spent in along time.

Great adventure and great interface

Revolution have really pulled all the stops on this one. BASS was a great achievement back in the days of the Amiga and it has lost nothing over time. The game looks as fresh today on the iPhone as it did all those years ago on my old Amiga.
The new interface is much better than that used for other classic adventure iPhone releases and actually enhances the experience. The game plays as if it was created for touch controls. Very intuative and easy to get to grips with.
If, like me, you have been waiting for a sequel to this game make sure you get everyone you know to buy it and it really is a bargain at only £2.99. BASS2 rests on the success of this game!
I look forward to Revolution's next iPhone project...Broken Sword anyone?

A classic done right

This is my favourite point and click adventure, and they've done a fantastic job updating it for the iPhone. They've not just taken the PC version and stuck it on the iPhone, they've taken the time to revise the controls and the result is an easy to play game that takes advantage of the touch screen rather than being hindered by it like the other point and click games released so far. Praying they get enough sales to encourage them to make a sequal!

Beneath a Touch Screen

At last one of the finest adventure games comes to the iPhone, this is exactly what the app store needs not more of this 0.59p rubbish. This genre of gaming was made for an intuitive touch screen but sometimes the icons needed to press can be a little small and hard to get if two of them are close by but the compelling and genuinely interesting storyline will keep you hooked until the very end. this this rice you cannot go wrong!
Argh what nickname is not already taken! oh wait?

Superb...

Not has the iPhone landed what could be described as one of the best point & click adventure stories ever released, it's been improved !!!
Dave Gibbons and Revolution have updated the old scanned comic strip intros and produced some great work, coupled with the redesign of the game engine itself makes this a definate purchase requirement.
This is not just a port where you drag some emulated mouse around, it's a propper iPhone app, and works accordingly. Put it this way, even if you are not a big fan of adventure games, or even remember this first time around, then just consider it a great way to get involved in a great Dave Gibbons/Charles Cecil storyline with some good Watchmen styled artwork to boot.
