HOW DOES PLANE FINDER WORK?
Plane Finder receives real time ADS-B and MLAT signals sent by aircraft to transmit their positional data to land based receivers. This technology is faster than traditional radar and is used for air traffic control and navigation. ADS-B is not used by all airlines or aircraft, however this is changing and the number of aircraft tracked by ADS-B is increasing all of the time. You can check our worldwide flight tracking coverage for free at www.planefinder.net

This app is fantastic, and the detail is excellent, but please “ developers “ can you add the ability to throw it onto my big screen via Bluetooth? As one gets older the detail dwindles even with glasses. I’m sure if this could be achieved along with other introductions then you’re deserved fan base will get even bigger.
Thank you so much.

Begging

Version 13.0.0
I paid fair and square for this I don’t expect to be bombarded with begging Popups when I launch it…. How do I stop them ? If I can’t stop them I’ll not be buying anymore of your software. What a cheek ! I’m sure the customer will get that fed up he will buy the new version ! What I find even more amazing is you have the audacity to make people wait and read your begging before allowing them to use the software they paid for ! Buy from this company at your peril ! UPDATE : No I won’t email you please explain what you mean by migration. I don’t want to migrate I simply want you to remove the spam / begging and startup delay on the software I purchased. What’s your next move to customers who won’t ‘migrate’ ? I guess you will stop this version working… What does migrate mean exactly ? I have to pay monthly ? Why do I have to email. Explain here please for all to see !!!!!
WARNING - The email from the developer asking how to transition pretty much is just an offer for a discount on the subscription.
THE TELLING PART OF THE EMAIL SAYS : If you're not interested that's fine too you can carry on using your existing app for as long as it is available.
FOR AS LONG AS IT IS AVAILABLE…. What does that tell you ?

Obnoxious advertising

Version 9.4.1
Having previously bought this application, I find it completely obnoxious that it now forces advertising on its users whenever the app is opened. I find it even more obnoxious that you force users to have to wait for before they are provided the option to close it.

I purchased the 3D version and if I open the app, a message “plane finder 3D now closed” appears and has been merged with Plane Finder Premium. I do not want to switch to premium in case I am charged again for this app.

Version 13.2.1
I paid for removal of ads.
Now I am pestered to upgrade to premium.
That’s an ad. Would that be a contractual issue...?
I understand there’s another subscription model available now but I don’t really want to pay subscriptions.
Perhaps refunds should be given for anyone who paid for this one then 🤷🏼‍♂️
Surely they assisted in funding the ‘new & better’ one so that’d be fair wouldn’t it...?

Version 13.4.4
Why is this app now greyed out? I paid for this version simply because I didn’t want to pay a monthly fee for something like Flightradar24. Now you’ve just copied the functionality of this app into a new one and force people who have already “bought” your app to pay a subscription. I’ll be complaining to Apple about this shady behaviour.

Version 13.1.1
Why do we have to subscribe at a premium for the latest app when I had already bought the premium app? The app I paid for does not have the latest features that I thought was the whole point of paying the first time round. Is this a way of getting money twice?

Pay Again for existing customers.

So reading some reviews here I notice I’m not alone, it seems that once you pay for an app as I did a while ago (pro version) as soon as an update comes along or an added feature you are expected to pay again but now it’s an annual subscription which I’m sure will increase steadily over time. It’s a pity as the app is pretty good but the customer service is not what I expected.

Not the best. Routing info often way out.

Version 13.1.2
Still not the best flight tracking app. You’ve got too many versions of essentially the same app on the go. One has a green plane logo, one has a grey logo making it look like you’d prefer people to pay for the other version of the same app. One which they’ve already paid for. Both essentially the same, apart from 3D, which is gimmicky at best.
One BIG reason i refer to other apps is that your routing info is often way out. As a random example FDX5201 currently travelling over Isle of Man, you say it’s STN-CDG. So, why is it over IOM?. FR24 always seems to get it right, with Plane Finder I can never be confident. It’s a real shame. You need to sort this out, it has been happening for a very long time.

Well R.I.P to this app

Version 13.1.0
Only reason people used this app is because the competition went subscription based.
This offered most of what was available for a one off fee. Now this is subscription too... hardly anyone will pay it when there is a better app offering more.
I’ll eat my words if they also keep this old app updated and working for people who have already purchased it. I reckon give it a few months and they will no longer support it.
It’s also pretty fitting that the app and screens shots are in black ready for its funeral.

When I bought this app, it didn’t say I was buying it for a couple of years until we try to extract more money out of you. This is not an honourable way to do business.
It’s a shame because it was a good app until the developers got too greedy

Version 11.1.4
I thought there was something fishy going on when the icon changed from blue to grey and then read the reviews. I’ve not updated the app and will not - I’ll keep using it without giving you an extra penny.
I have paid for your app and the service it provides. To want to lock me out of a product I have paid for so you can demand more money is tantamount to theft.
Many people around the world are struggling financial as a result of the pandemic and you pick this time to try and squeeze more cash out of people.
You should be ashamed of yourselves for the disregard you have treated people who bought your app in good faith.

Version 11.1.0
Stuff your roadmap and excuses. I don’t want to talk about my “opinions” either.
I won’t update the app. How about that? You are going to have to change your server backend completely to stop me from using it....
Such an anti-consumer, optically bad move on your part, and is nothing but a middle finger to your user base. Ask a certain large calendar developer how it went for them recently when they did this. Enjoy your next 3-6 months of bad reviews, reduced business and large reputation hit you may never come back from. You are not entitled to a monthly payment for an app I already owned a license to, and that you’ve done practically nothing with for many months. This practice is just scummy as hell and is becoming way to common now. If you want a new revenue stream, create a new product....
This always happen with phone apps in the end.
I advise people to not buy anything anymore, because you devalue it with practices like this.
You only get one shot at doing this forced freemium crap to your user base too. People will think twice before buying any app from you again. I hope it was worth it for you.
Don’t bother with a developer response. I won’t read it. You won’t change my mind at all and you know exactly what the real reason is for doing this.

Don’t like new format. Was far superior when you could see which airline it was etc without touching on each individual plane .
Also meant if you were sitting at an airport waiting for your outbound plane arriving from another destination, you could immediately spot it and know what likely wait would be, as frequently ground crews only give you half the story!

There are plenty of apps out there that offer the same concept as this app, for a much cheaper price too, but none perform as well as this. You’d simply be losing money by not buying this app, it’s the price of coffee but will last a lifetime.
I am on a constant hunt to find the cleanest most aesthetically pleasing apps out there - many apps do a good job of this but there are still some that use the skeumorphic design of years past.
PlaneFinder does a superb job of using the native design language of Apple to deliver a fantastic product.

I had to write a quick review, as basically I bought this app about 10 years ago – and it still just as amazing today as it was then. I can’t believe how well the developer team keep putting out updates, and keep on top of bugs… It is not only my go to app on my iPhone when I look at the window and hear a helicopter over my house, but also on my Apple TV! Great job guys. I love this app.

I have had this app since it launched! It’s fantastic and regularly updated, the AR feature is fantastic and now with live weather and arrivals and departures dates and times. My on criticism that I’m sure could be worked on, is the arrivals and departure section. Not all flights are shown in the segments where compared to other flight tracking apps more than 90% are correct for that day. It’s the same with some flights, certain apps show more flights and this app. Please could this be looked into.

Great app! One thing though....

I’ve used this for years and I love it. The updates continue to improve it so keep up the good work. However...
A rival app “FR” shows aircraft at the airport and ready to depart long before this app does. I’m assuming the data comes from the same sources so why Plane Finder doesn’t show them I don’t understand. Would be nice if this was corrected to save me swapping g between apps as I sometimes have to do.

So why not ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️?
The non-selectable map source (that was poor decision to remove the feature - Apple Maps are still not on par with Google’s). So while it may be easier/cheaper for you, it lowers the quality-of-experience for your users.
Then there’s the irritating logo and title annoyingly taking up most of the top of the screen. Smaller and in a corner would be tolerable (gone would be better).

My most used App at the moment

The reason I love this latest version is that it enables you to take a snapshot of low flying aircraft so you can then email complaints to Heathrow or your local airport. These emails then provide proof that aircraft are flying too low. Of course you can also find the progress of any flight where you are collecting someone from the airport.
All that is missing is the ability to look at historical flight paths, say over the past year.

I love my Planefinder App and use it frequently as a both a frequent flier and keen plane spotter. The latest App upgrade is good but it would be great to be able to have a choice of colours for the actual aircraft - I used to have my plane colour as red which showed up better in bright light conditions and against the background land and sea colours !! Other than that keep up the great work and no better app for air travel information ! Thanks guys and gals !

The recent big update significantly diminishes the user experience, and makes the info I want to see harder to see and find. I understand trying to continuously improve, but a massive overhaul is rarely the way to go without widespread user testing.
Given the huge number of negative reviews that have been received, the developers can’t really argue that it’s a success (despite the very dodgy 4.7 score on the App Store).
I know that since the update my use has dropped to almost zero. Would the developers share their overall usage since the update?

Bad update

 –
Vale58x46
 –
2019-10-20
I would have given this app five stars but with the latest update it has changed for the worse , the colour of the planes has changed which makes them a little harder to see as well as before when they were red ,also when the planes were red it was much easier to tell what model of plane you were looking for . The information box is also a change that is worse than before the update . So I am afraid that the rating I give this once excellent app is now a three instead of the previous five , bad move guys , please revert to previous please.

New update has ruined it

 –
Teleparty
 –
2019-10-19
The new update has made everything worse. Not sure what they were thinking, what made this app better than the other ones was that it was clear and concentrated on the key info. The switch to yellow icons from red so that it is like all the other ones is just weird. It’s harder to tell the difference in sizes of aircraft now, and all the flight logos have a big slab of white behind them that makes them hard to distinguish and sometimes even see the logos. A lot of logos are not even shown for some flights including for mainstream airlines like BA. This did not happen as much before. Please return it to its original format!

Still the best

I have been using this app from its first incarnation and it gets better all the time. The information is astounding and the fact that I can use this on my Watch 5, albeit in a limited fashion, is the icing on the cake. **Update** Plane Finder kindly emailed me to inform me how to get Flight Nos or Co Logos on screen next to each plane. That problem has been solved Thank You. Now for the bug that causes my plane(s) especially when I first open up Plane Finder, the first one I touch to relocating miles behind where it originally was - very strange...
Until the latest upgrade which has become a downgrade. How can u improve on perfection? U can’t. When it isn’t broken don’t try and fix it. I loved all the flight nos displayed on the screen without having to click onto a certain plane. I feel blind now. When I do click on a plane it disappears totally or re-emerges miles behind its original location. The app is useless now. It’s such a shame. Will have to find alternative and it was the best. Wish they would just leave things alone.

It’s brilliant and I really enjoy tracking flights that I know people are on.
My brother was flying and I was collecting him. Flight was 3 hrs 20 mins late leaving. My brother knew I was tracking the flight so didn’t need to worry about letting me know.
It was a small airport and not sure if it would have been as easy at Heathrow or Gatwick.
Miss the satellite version where you could see live picture.

I have used this app for some time, and loved its simplicity, but good relevant detail! I have even Persuaded several friends to download and use it! However, the latest update has left me disappointed! Why have you taken the carrier ID away from the site Map graphics? That was a great feature, which made spotting a particular flight or carrier easy! The rest of the update, with easy to use info is very good! Shame about the ID. It makes the site map look very much like another popular App!!! PMU.
After a swift response from the app developer, and having found the carrier ID logos in settings, I am happy to change my rating from 4 to 5. Thanks! PMU

Very happy

I’ve used Plane finder for a number of years now and have never had a problem. The updates always make the experience better. Although we live in S/W France in a village with a very poor WiFi connection I get most of what I’m looking for, in fact only last week I saw that a Pilot for Air Linctus was asked for his Height and position and his reply was “I’m 5’7” and sat at the front”. What more do you need to know? A great app and would Recommend to any one. Well done and good luck.

Update has completely changed the app for the worse.

This was a great app because of the use of google maps and the general format used with blue coloured aircraft which made it extremely easy to use. Now using Apple Maps only it has gone from being a 5 star App to being pretty unenjoyable to be honest and very similar to its rival app. I’m normally all for updates and disagree with people who are always against change but this update has completely changed the look and feel of the app for the worse. No matter what people know Google maps is far superior to Apple even with “vast improvements” as I have seen commented. Although yes there are probably legitimate reasons for this, it has badly effected the app nonetheless. Real shame.

Good but could be even better

Latest update has wrecked the live height tracking, now it jumps about all over the place while ascending and descending
I also suggested hyperlinking the departing and arriving airport in the aircraft details page/flight details page to bring you directly to the airport of departure or the airport of arrival to show it’s statistics
Seems like it’s fell on deaf ears after promising that it would be implemented shortly very poor performance

App not working correctly

Been using this for years, it was always worthy of 5 stars. But just recently certain aircraft are not tracking correctly or not showing at all. Even some of the aircraft history would only work if the aircraft was flying. The other day i was tracking a flight from UK to Spain. Part way through France it disappeared for rest of flight, plus it had the wrong information for the departure airport. Luckily i had another App which was working correctly so i used that instead.
I hope you can address these issues and get it back to the 5 star app i once knew.
Thanks

Been trying to track my husband’s journey because, well, obviously I miss him and this is a way of feeling connected
The first flight from LHR was ok to track. But his second flight, which has definitely taken off and is in the air is showing as not trackable on the app. It is showing on the online version which is free! And on other flight apps (ok now I know I am probably coming across as a stalky weirdo). Disappointed that I had to pay £5 for something which doesn’t actually work.

It’s a fun App to have, but not always accurate! ...... For example, it’s not unusual for it to totally misidentify a flight (you know it’s wrong because it’s flying totally in the wrong direction!) Also, when I want to track an incoming flight from Europe it can’t always find it - even when you know the flight is airborne - and you know you have the correct flight number!

Useful app

Have used this app for several years and, despite not having every bell and whistle available from some of the competition I’ve never been tempted to move elsewhere. I’ve found it as reliable as any others - more so, in fact. Tracking a friend’s flight today, most of the others reported its arrival instead of its diversion (that this one picked up).
My only issue is with airport flight boards - for airports I’ve compared, the web-accessible board from the airport is more reliable. Probably a problem with the feed used, so not an app issue but perhaps alternative feeds may be available.

Great app but not colourblind-friendly

A great app, albeit doesn’t quite have the same sophisticated, colourful look of FlightRadar24 – this has quite a bland look by comparison.
The one thing that really irritates me, however, is the fact you are forced to have red-coloured aircraft.
I much prefer to view with the satellite map, but the dark green of the land against the dark red of the aircraft is very hard on my eyes and makes the experience unfriendly.
I’m fairly sure the app used to let you choose white, yellow or red (I always used yellow) and cannot for the life of me understand why this was dropped.
The sooner it’s brought back, the better.
The app is by no means clunky but it isn’t quite as responsive as FlightRadar24, while the aircraft icons are 2D with an outline, while FR24’s look a little nicer with a bit of subtle shading to make them appear 3D – the latter just makes them easier on the eye.
It’s disappointing that more has not been done to cater for colourblind users.
Planefinder is a great app, but it has more design work to do to make me consider switching away from FR24 which, for now, remains my first choice.

If you’ve ever looked up and thought “ I wonder where that plane is going?”
Then this is your app!
On the fun side it’s brilliant for plane spotting. All the info you could need ( except what the Captains middle name is😂) is there to absorb. Just point into sky as the plane whizzes over your head!
On a more practical side , it’s great for tracking the progress of a flight if you have loved ones travelling.
We used it so much when family were plane hopping around the USA.
A word of warning, whilst it’s sort of reassuring to track a flight, you also need nerves of steel when you realise just how many planes are up there in what looks like a very small sky. Heathrow airport looks like one huge bun fight!
Got to give it up for those air traffic controllers 👍🏻😂

The app is great and I love knowing where planes are coming from and going to. But the battery on my iPhone seems to take a dive when I start using it even if I shut the app down every time I stop using it. I tend to use the app for just a minute or so at a time then close it down but as soon as I’ve looked once, the battery drains very quickly. Anyone else have this problem?

EDIT: Since the launch of the new 3D app I can’t open this app without having to waste time dismissing an ad for the new app, despite the fact that I’ve paid for this app and as part of the package of paying I was told there would be no ads. I understand the need to promote new apps, but every time I launch into this one is a bit much!
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
This app is one of the best ones! It sometimes screws up when you watch the airport but further out from it, this app is great. But when will we see iPad compatibility? I have to run it on my iPad in compatibility mode and I'm not a big fan of this!

Think I am a bit of a plane geek. I live on a flight path and can sit and watch the flights go over and find out where they have been as well as tracking friends/family even our scheduled fights. I have been thinking about an air band radio too. Love the history of the planes too amazing but scary to see how many flights they have made. Well worth a couple of quid.

I stumbled across this app whilst looking for a decent fear of flying app (I didn’t find one btw), so I thought I’d check it out, out of curiosity. Oh my word! I am a plane geek now! ( so my hubby says😆). Basically, this app has shown me HOW MANY PLANES there are up there at any one time, which I never thought of before, where they are going, how fast and so on. I would’ve never thought it, but this is helping me with my anxiety and irrational fear of flying because it’s giving me knowledge. It’s also so weirdly addictive and fascinating!! Honestly I love it! And I defy you not to too! You need to get this app!

This is a great app to have on your mobile phone. It not only lets you see what destination aircraft flying overhead leaving long vapour streaks in the sky are heading to but also where they came from and identifies them as well. If you are on an Airport flight path then it is vey useful. Also can be used abroad in Europe to check if “that “ flight has left GB/Europe for friends arriving/ leaving. Recommended.

Although still interesting the app now lacks its earlier accuracy. Quite often a tap on a plane brings up the info board which tells you it is travelling between point A to point B when in fact its position and direction on the map make the aircrafts indicated origin and destination impossible.
Too often now the info board simply announces N/A for point of origin to destination. The previous version was much less frustrating!

Not as good as the earlier version

I love plane finder. I sit in the garden first thing with my tea and track the planes flying across us. The Stansted flight paths are routed round us or over us, and exotics from America bound for Amsterdam cross over us, too. I think about the lives of the passengers, their expectations, why they are travelling. I love the big, mysterious cargo planes, and the jerky, wandering flight paths of those little planes going into Cit of London.
But the latest version irritates me. I can no longer track a plane without having the box with all its information blocking half the screen. Much of the pleasure was following them quietly along. And that box is soooo big! So intrusive! And it no longer gives me the altitude changes in graph form. And the planes have those unnecessary cutesy shadows....
So I sit and grumble. The older version would have got 4 or 5 stars. This version gets 3. But I wouldn’t be without it.

Brilliant Application.

As a proud dad to an airline captain, I often watch my son’s progress and tell his mother when he is about to land at the end of his daily sectors.
Denied compensation as a passenger for over 3 hour delay, I was able to prove by back tracking the timeline, it was the airline fault and not ATC.
Seeing a speck trailing across the open sky, l often look to see its origin and final destination. Fascinating and a brilliant use of technology.

This is a great app for following friends and family around the world and even for basic planning of trips using the airline schedule information available for highlighted flights. However the airline/flight filter remains a source of frustration when entering, revising and/or saving information and invariably involves deleting the previous filter and starting again.

Only had this a week or so, but really love the app. I'm interested in aviation, and often find myself wondering about flights overhead. This does all I wanted and more. Downloaded the free version and quickly upgraded to the full version, not because I felt I had to, but because I wanted the extra details. Well worth it imho. Great to identify aircraft, types, carriers, routes, and there's so much more handy info. If you've ever looked up at aircraft, and wondered, you won't be disappointed with Plane Finder!!!

I'm abit of a geek at heart and initially downloaded the lite version but have recently upgraded to the full version.
I find it fascinating seeing where planes have come from, where they've travelled & where their going etc!
The lite version was great but I love the full version! Some planes even report current air temp & various others fun facts.
Seeing a plane above & telling my husband what it is & where it's going etc is such fun.

There was a time when FR24 this app were on par with one another, however that day went once FR24 decided to make you buy every feature that plane finder kept free❤️.
Plane finders rewind feature is also superb allowing you to see what planes were over you at a certain time, and it has data from years ago!
Fantastic app, strongly recommended.

The app is amazing, however I have spotted some errors. it's very slow, when I hear a plane above it doesn't show up on the map yet it shows up on the free flight tracking apps I have. on top of that, unlike other free apps, this app fails to show the preplanned route of an aircraft it just shows where it is so far, which doesn't really give you an insight about where the aircraft is travelling to and via what countries ect... Lastly, the app freezes al lot, when on the aircraft map they don't move as if they are frozen again when using free apps this does not occur. Please can the producers fix these minor bugs and issues for an experience worth £4.99

I really used to love PlaneFinderHD & I gave Planefinder HD 5* When you tap on an airport you now get a confused display compared to the simple one it used to be. It showed you the rough direction the aircraft was heading & you could see if it was 2 or 4 engined. Now it's just a list. When you select an plane you get a long list that covers a good portion of the screen. Yes the is some good info but what was wrong with the way PF Hd displayed it. Maybe have this extra info in a sub menu for this who want it.
I will still use PlaneFinder but thinking that not all progress is good progress.

Fantastic App. If looking at an aeroplane in the sky excites your imagination and curiosity, this is the app for you. The AR function is the thing for me. Adjust the mileage meter, point the phone at the sky and there it is, all the information you want. I was going to knock a star off due to not being able to orientate the map to the ground, but I get by. Just buy it, If you're here reading the reviews then it obviously interests you.

I love this app in so many ways!
I can show friends or children what the plane is that's in the sky, where it's going, type of plane etc.
Its reassuring to track relatives and see that they get somewhere safe and today's use is seeing when my daughters land so I can meet them! Their plane was delayed at takeoff by an hour but they flew a slightly different way to what we did a week ago and they'll land at the time they were supposed to do! I would have expected to go and meet them later than that!
Well done to the creators of this app!

Does what it promises; great for tracking flights as well as realtime updates on arrivals and departures etc. Fantastic App that can be left running in the background without causing issues or closed it will still monitor any alerts you've set up. Regarding alerts though, delete them when you're done otherwise you'll be dealing with pop-ups until you delete them.

Always fascinated by the vapour trails in the sky. "Where were they from and where are they going to?" Especially the propellor driven plane that passed overhead at about half past midnight for some years. With this app you can know them all. It's absolutely fascinating as to what's going where. Some unusual city to city links that would have been inconceivable a few years ago. But that propellor plane just after midnight doesn't seem to be operating these days …
Absolutely fascinating. BTW check out the jet trainers operating over Snowdonia and see the twists and turns they get up to!

I've used this for quite a while now and is great for timing runs for airport pick ups etc. Filters sometimes difficult to set up due to flight numbers and the way they sometimes have a different number with an extra lead 0 at the beginning but once you have that sorted it works well.

Has trouble with long flights such as Air NZ 1 where there are two in the air together and you get the info for the one that just left London when you click on the one about to land in Auckland. Also once showed the NZ1 route as London to Sydney. Leading zeroes in flight numbers cause problems, e.g. request for NZ002 is not recognised. Also e.g. - NZ1 will bring up all Air NZ flights starting with 1. Wow Air flight headed to BHX showed up as Prague to Bari but that's a rare snafu. Owners reply personally to feedback which is nice. Pretty good app and well worth paying for the full version.
