it's amazing how quickly you learn to manage in the language.

More technically impressive than locally helpful
The good thing about the uTalk series is that they are polished applications. They look good, they run smoothly, the audio is decent quality, and there are sensible learning tools.
The bad thing about the uTalk series is that they are all written as if someone progresses from child to geek with nominal human contact, geographical or interpersonal. You learn how to say *things*. You learn the basics to keep people at bay. What you don;t get is pleasantries to help you get to know people. Some language guides cover this by a category of 'flirting' - but ity's really just basic human thoughtfulness and two-way talk. For instance, "How are you?" "Do you like . . . ?" "I like your . . . " "That's nice!" "Youa re very helpful." Of the sections, everyting is about objects excect two. 'First words' - at least covers hellos, good mornings and sorrys. Then there's a promising looking icon of a man and woman looking cordiallly at each other, as if enjoying each other's company socially. But the phrases are all, 'me, me, me.'
The other sadly laughable problem is that all the words and phrases are chosen from a comfy Western library. Under 'food' you won't get even the most common national dishes. But it will tell you words like chopsticks and strawberries, whether you can, or would want, to find them in the country of that language or not.
Technically competent. But the programmers really do need to wake up and smell the grass.

Bloated Price
I've got a couple of applications for speaking Khmer and this one is way over priced for what you get. I really hope there's a huge amount of content updates to come as without that I'd suggest you save your money!
When you go to Cambodia you'll find that costs are worked out in Dollars or Riel (Hundreds / Thousands). This app will help with everything below the number 20 so maybe budget accordingly... Also it's great to know how to say Market but should you need to say you want to go there then the phrases with this app won't help.
Like I say I really hope the content is expanded on as without that happening the application is no match when compaired with others of similar price, e.g., Lonely Planet Audio Guides, and is very very disappointing to say the least.
